'82 Rich Stadium it actually rained during this song. It stopped at the end and Pete said "I bet the Stones couldn't pull that one off!", f yeah Epic!
I remember. It threatened rain all day, and then started at the perfect moment. It was quite a moment. Peace.
@@kdbadk Eddie Vedder can do it!!
'82 Toronto Exhibition Stadium quit the high school football team and hitchhiked to catch the show!!! Cheers
@@nostalga44jo yeah I seen that on VH1 thing Eddie nailed it
This entire album is pure passion. End to end is the best way to hear it...
This album is a masterpiece. Love Reign O'er Me is the last song, and it hits you ten times as hard after you hear the whole thing.
@@loosilu There is a reaction channel called NicknLex. They reacted to the entire album and by the end, tears were streaming down Lex's face and when her husband turned and saw her crying, his eyes welled-up too. They both went from barely knowing The Who, to being completely blown away after reacting to the entire album.
@@bostonwhofan I know that channel! I'll check it out. Did you see Andy and Alex's reaction to the album? they had been putting it off for months and finally someone shamed them into doing it. They were happy they did.
@@loosilu Yes, I saw Alex & Andy’s reaction to Quad. They both loved it. Pretty cool they were both blown away by 5:15!
This is a song that gives me chills. Someone is just pouring out their soul
Exactly... If you don't get chills, you don't have a soul. Period!
Roger Daltrey is the lead singer with the raspy gritty voice, Pete Townsend the guitarist also sings he has the higher clear sounding voice. Some songs they will trade verses and if you listen carefully you will definitely hear the difference in their vocals. Or just watch some of their videos.
The way I interpret it, Roger sings the outside voice, the person you want the world to see. Pete sings the inside voice, frail, doubtful.
@@loosilu Excellent observation.
@@dickcnormis1444 Listen to Quadrophenia with that in mind!
@@loosilu Let’s not forget that “the Ox” John Entwistle, on lead bass sings lead in songs for The Who as well. My memory is only recalling Keith contributing backing vocals though.
@@CaptainBakerJason They kept Keith as far away from the mic's as possible, sometimes giving him a dead mic. Keith with a mic is terrifying.
Love Reign oer me is the climax of Quadrophenia, a double album masterpiece. It's a rock opera and a concept album. Highly highly recommend the entire album to you.
Why not mention the movie??
Watch the film QUADROPHENIA epic
The intro brings you a rain storm. In the higher notes of the piano, you can hear the rain falling as the notes descend. The lower notes, when they’re rumbling, along with the drums at that point, bring you a little rolling thunder. In that gong (or cymbal) you can almost see the flash of lightening. It all fits perfectly into the context of the song. Nothing is out of place.
One of those albums you want to own if you’re stranded on a desert island and you get to have ten.
Roger Daltrey has TWO of the most iconic vocal moments in rock history. One of them is THIS song. The other moment is the scream in Won't Get Fooled Again.
Don't forget about the iconic scream by Chris Cornell in the song Cochise by Audioslave. If you haven't heard it, please do check it out. Wow!!
Bought this Masterpiece album while stationed in Germany in the U.S. Army in 1983 and the vinyl double album still sits with my stereo today
I find it so very wonderful that two dissimilar people as you and I are, can share a mutual love of the music that was the soundtrack of my life. Your pure reactions to the songs I grew up with take me back to the wonder of hearing them for the first time myself! Thank you my Brother! Brother Doug
This song was me and my husband's song when we first started dating 44 years ago!! We've been married 42 years and have 3 children and 6 grandchildren!
this song still gives me chills every time i hear it... roger daltrey has the MOST incredible voice in rock music history...
Heard Roger Daltry with Eric Clapton in Memphis some years back. He could still hit those screams! This is such a beautiful song.
Wow how lucky are you!!
@@BlowinFree My luckiest was seeing. Cream at Madison Square Gardens in 2005 on their final tour.
That and Pink Floyd were my ‘Superbowls’ ☮️
I saw the Who in DC in May, Daltrey sounds INCREDIBLE! He hit that scream! I could not believe how great he sounded. Dude was the one guy in the Who who didn't do the partying, he sometimes stayed in a different hotel. He didn't do the drugs, he just got a good night's sleep. It really shows.
Lucky enough to have seen them do this live. Twice! Special live band.
MASTERPIECE isn't enough to describe this WHO Classic.
I saw them when they were touring this album. (The night Moon passed out and they finished with a drummer out of the crowd) They were playing the sound effects, like the ocean and rain from the back of the house. This is an epic album.
Awesome, I’d love to have been there
I was 14 when I saw the Who in concert, at the start of their career. After all the musicians I've seen since, they still stand out in my memory as one of the best-energy off the charts.
I would nominate I Can See For Miles by The Who from the Who Sell Out album
Laughing at the end is a great response. Amazing song. When somebody does something really right, a step above, I have the same reaction, it's like a sign of approval and appreciation - acknowledging what was accomplished. Best live act I ever saw, and I saw a lot from the classic rock era in their prime.
Behind Blue Eyes, Eminance Front, Who Are You?, Won’t Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, Baba O’Riley just to name a few you should check out.
Roger Daltrey is the singer but the guitarist Pete Townsend has an incredible voice as well and some solo stuff. Check out the album Empty Glass by Pete in its entirety. Totally kicks ass
Pete Townshend wrote and played synth, piano and guitars on this great song. Roger Daltrey seems to have recognized what a gift this song was for him to get to sing, so he sang the hell out of it. John Entwistle and Keith Moon are amazing on bass and drums, as ALWAYS. I first saw them do this live in 1973, the year it came out, and again this year, and many times in between. You obviously get what a great band this is, and what a great piece of music this is.
OMG I love this song. I think it's a masterpiece. Daltrey is incredible and Pete Townsend's guitar work is just so clean and tasty.
Goosebumps always with this song.
Your smile before the first pause, says it all! An amazing song that has stood over half a century of time, so far! Thank you for your reaction!
Does anyone remember quad stereo was the "big tech thing" back in 73 when The Who quadrophenia album was released?
The Who is coming back to the US and Canada starting on Oct 2 in Toronto. I saw them in Boston in May and they play a significant portion of the Quadrophenia album on this tour....including Love Reign O'er Me.
When Roger Daltrey is the lead singer not many people can match his powerful voice!
Biz... I saw the Who in Austin a couple of months ago. Roger KILLED this song. It really was the highlight of the evening when he let out those primal screams!
“O’er” is an old school poetic way of getting “over” said in one syllable.
Love The Who! One of my favorite songs by them You Better You Better You Bet! They have so many more.
TY for a great reaction. I flashed back 50 yrs watching the look on your face, and knew i had to comment. You MUST check out the whole album brother; every song is epic.
The Quad is the four members of the band. Their faces are in each of the 4 mirrors on the motorcycle. The Love Reigning is more spiritual than a love relationship. Pete followed up Tommy with this concept album. The Who touring these days played plenty of Tommy and Quad. 5:15 is next for you on the album
When Roger hit the studio, he was told by the composer to sing the whole song in subdued sad tones.
As he started to sing it, Daltrey was like "Fuck that, I gotta sing this the way I feel it".
Needless to say, everyone was blown away and they kept the track.
You should listen to I can see for miles, it’s one of their early tunes and it rocks
Thanks for playing. This song is in my personal top 5. Enjoyed your reaction. .
I saw them in concert 🎶 in 1982 and believe it or not when the played this song it was drizzling 🌧!!! So cool!!!! Then I last my girlfriend who had hopped on stage but she didn’t know that they were just sending them out the back , not back stage!!! 😝
The whole band is good. I've seen the drummer duck tape his head phones to his head,he jam's hard. You'll appreciate them more to see how energized they are live
One of their best songs...of many great ones.
I listen to this song and I get goosebumps
...the peaceful piano seems to play along with the rain.
.....the drums like rolling thunder...
....the lyrics that are so expressive....the passion of love, the playfulness of love, the peaceful, calming, exhilarating, encouraging, refreshing effects of true love can give to the human soul....
....the vocals throw into sharp detail the absolute desperation of one alone without love.....the singer is aching, longing, despairing for love to pour over his soul!
I'm late a usual so I don't get to tell you who the singers are but I love watching you smile when they're really gettin on it! This band is truly going down in history. They've got a Rock Opera called "Tommy".
The intro feels to me that the drums are thunder, the crash of the cymbals are lightning & the piano is the rain...
Biz, Quadrophenia is an opera. Listen to the whole thing. It was my teenage soundtrack. So many amazing journeys in this. You need it all!
💯💯💯
That's Pete Townshend on keyboards. He also plays guitar and sings lead sometimes, and harmonies.
*Getting in Tune* another great one from Who's Next
The Beatles were formed 1960, The Who 1964, Led Zepplin 1968, Van Halen 1972 (Halen's favorite guitarist is Pete Townshend, the song "Jump" is written for Townshend)
Glorious , musically & Lyrically
The unforgettable closing track from one of the greatest (and most intense) albums ever made: QUADROPHENIA. Worth a reaction I believe.
Join Together, would always put it on jukebox to get the bar jumpin
English bands came to rule the world , gathered around a soul revolution brought from the US influence , it will remain a gift from the heritage of musics origins .
The Who is one of my favorite bands. Roger Daltrey is the main singer. Pete Townsend sings sometimes. This album came out in 1973
I saw them in 78 at MSG and Daltrey sang this song running in place the whole song ...
Love to hear PINBALLWIZARD! ONE OF THE Who’s greatest!
Quadrophenia is the third "rock Opera" written by the genius of the Who - Pete Townshend.
It revolves around the mid-60's life of a young Mod. The Mods and the Rockers were real life cultural competitors in urban England. The rockers were more James Dean-ish with leather jackets, slicked back hair and big motorcycles. The Mods were very hip, loved nice clothes, italian shoes, certain styled hair, motor Scooters and R&B based music. The two main Mod groups were the Who (a group who became Mods) and the Small Faces, (who were a group of true Mod teens who started a group) "Love Rein O're Me" is the finale of the movie/album - very dramatic.
And as (sometimes) cheesy as the movie is, I can watch it again, and again, and again. It's a part of my teenage moulding.
The movie "Quadrophenia" will explain this album, set in the sixties , when young teens called themselves either MODS or ROCKERS the mods drove lambretta scooters or vespa`s and the rockers motorbikes, in the sixties most drugs where pills purple hearts etc and alcohol, the movie and album is really a historical moment in the life of teenagers in the sixties into early seventies, the picture you where looking at shows you how mods dressed in those days wearing that big parka and driving a scooter, i had the pleasure a few years back watching the WHO in newcastle arena North East England, playing the whole album and mods from the sixties turned up wearing their parka`s and driving their scooters lol a very nice time had by all at that concert and of course the brilliant band called the who didnt let anyone down.
Beautiful, thank you, My favorite Who Song _ Eminence Front... This song features Pete Townshend singing instead of usual vocalist Roger Daltry.
THE WHO, "LOVE REIGN O'ER ME". 1970'S MAGIC, SINGER ROGER DALTREY, GUITAR PETE TOWNSEND, BASS JOHN ENTWHISTLE, DRUMS KEITH MOON. more, "THE REAL ME" off of the Album Quadraphenia also.
Man... you GET The Who! (Thanks for that.) OK: you gotta watch the Shepparton Studio LIVE versions of: Baba O'Riley, Won't Get Fooled Again, and Who Are You. If they don't become new favorites of yours....well, that just won't happen. But don't settle for other versions.
The start is the sound of the rain falling then a peal of lightning and thunder then into those great lyrics )
My favorite Who song, thanks! vocals by Roger Daltrey, Pete Townsend (guitar) also sings sometimes. They started in '64, back when Biz was only 16.
Fabulous Biz .
More = to this one :
1. The Real Me .
2. Getting In Tune .
3. Relay .
4. The Seeker .
I love this song. This is by far my favorite song. Roger Daltry is the singer.
A long time ago even though I love all the old rock and roll I'm starting from the '60s and then I met girls and I started listening to rock then soul music which I still do to this day I'm so glad to see the black community jumping in on a lot of the old rock and roll you will find yourself kicking back to a better time
Pete made the right decision by letting Keith put the ultimate exclamation point at the end of the ultimate rock opera of all time! 🎸 🥁 🔥
Hey Biz, I think you would dig the movie Quadrophenia, the amazing film companion work to this amazing album.
Great reaction, you nail it as always, and you’re on point about the dramatic drumming, that’s Keith Moon, who mighta been the GOAT.
Keith Moon and John Entwistle one of the coolest rhythm sections keeping it solid!
Spot on, bro. 👊👍😁
@@petervandervlies6427 Cheers
Biz, this is an album that you need to put on your future album listens list. It is a brilliant rock opera.🔥🔥
First time seeing The Who 1977. Was 13. My dad took me. Keith moon still on the drums. Still a highlight of time with dad. Their energy was unmatched. Appreciate your reaction. Wonderful to see. God bless.
More exciting to watch them live
Brilliant song from a classic album by a great band.
You think this song is good on its own? Well, it is. Quadrophenia is one of the Who's rock operas, though, and this is EVEN BETTER as the closing track. At that point you've been hearing bits of it (and a couple other songs) woven throughout the rest.
My parents first sat me down with the album when I was 10, in preparation for an album-focused tour that winter (which was EPIC). At the time I didn't *quite* get all the nuances, but it's easily one of my favorite albums. "The Real Me" is another one people will point you to (and justifiably so, given THAT BASSLINE); "Bell Boy" and "Drowned" are another couple of my favorites.
This was the album after Who's Next (home of "Baba O'Riley" and "Won't Get Fooled Again"). The next one was The Who By Numbers, which has several good tracks in its own right. (For "Slip Kid" they gave Keith Moon a cowbell.)
Amen. After you hear the whole album, this song hits you SO MUCH HARDER. It's not painful to listen to the album. It feels short.
From like 1979 until around 1990 The Who were the best live act in the world and it was not close,
Biz, I think you can do the whole Quadrophenia album. Like this song, the whole thing is epic. At the very minimum, maybe check out songs like “Can you see the real me?” and “Bell Boy”. Townsend was a brilliant lyricist and writer and artist in general. He pioneered the “rock opera” format and turning albums into rock operas and rock operas into movies. Huge artistic contribution to modern culture.
Gotta be one of the greatest endings to a song ever!
if you would have looke at the bottom of your pop up pic there appears to be a place you could have clicked for the lyrics
The beginning part what's the musical representation of a thunderstorm coming on shore. I want you to notice how the word rain was spelled😉this was one of the first rock operas and while maybe not on RUclips I would encourage you to listen this album from start to finish
"The Who got some bangers!" Actually, the Who INVENTED Bangers.
It changed my life when it came out.
A perfect masterpiece, my favorite Who song, powerhouse!
One of their best both vocally and musically. Now try reacting to Out on the 5:15 which is another great one from the same album, Quadraphenia!
The singers name is Roger Daltrey !!!
In the beginning of the song the drums are supposed to sound like thunder :)
Epic! Roger Daltrey is the lead singer. Pete Townsend sings key phrases in many of their songs too. Bass player John Entwistle got to sing a few here and there. Even drummer Keith Moon got some choice lines in various songs. "Love Reign O'er Me" is from their 1973 album Quadrophenia. It was one of my favorite albums when I was a teenager in the eighties. The Who made a movie out of it in 1979 that basically tells a tale about their generation -- Mods verses Rockers in England in the mid-sixties. Mods rode Vespas, Rockers rode Triumphs, more or less, and they hated each other and brawled in the streets of Brighton in England in 1964. It was the first movie gig for Sting of The Police, iirc. Highlights from that album include "The Real Me", "The Punk And The Godfather", "I'm One", "Bell Boy", and "5:15", the lead single from the album. For a deeper dive into The Who check out "I Can See For Miles", "Amazing Journey", "A Quick One, While He's Away", "Long Live Rock", "Magic Bus" (from Live at Leeds) and an underrated banger from 1974 called "Naked Eye" -- part proto punk rock, part homage to Jimi Hendrix, it arguably features one of Townshend's best guitar solos.
The Who needs to be listened to loud… it is not background music… awesome band that both critics and fans recognize, yet still underrated
Heck yes. Enjoy this epic song. Thanks. Boris The Spider next. Bass player, Thunderfingers, Sings it. John Enwhistle.
Lots of great tunes Biz!
Greatest Rock Band Ever
Oh Roger - pure class ❤
You've got to see the last scene of the movie while this plays.
THE WHO. ; "THE REAL ME"
The Who have been around since 1964. Quadrophenia came out in 1973.
Those lyrics are "It's not True" by The Amboy Dukes (w Ted Nugent)
Quadrophenia, is an unbelievable rock opera. I personally like it better than “Tommy”. My favorite Who album is Who’s Next . Look at the Quadrophenia album Cover, The four faces in the side view mirrors are (The Who).
Roger Daltrey is lead singer here and on most Who songs. Pete Townshend wrote all this music and occasionally takes lead vocal. But Daltrey is the main singer.
What's next from the Who? Well, since this song ends the album it's on, how about the song that opens the same album called The Real Me? One of their greatest bangers with a special nod to their incredible bassist.
Oh God how 😢I need a drink of cool 😎 cool rain 🌧️!
WHO??? Powerful song , hey ??!!
Would be awesome if you'd react to the entire Quadrophenia album. It's a concept album regarding a teenager named Jimmy who is struggling with the parts of life that almost everyone goes through as they change from a child, to a teen, to an adult in just a few short years. It's got some of the deepest lyrics you'll ever hear. On the 3 songs before "Love Reign O'er Me" Jimmy is contemplating committing suicide. But obviously something save him and "Love Reign O'er Me" closes the album on a good note. If you liked LROM, you will love every song on the album!
My favorite song from The Who. Hasn't always been the case. 😎
My suggestion for another song by The Who would be "Slip Kid" from the album "The Who By Numbers".
Agree Epic 💯
If you've not yet done Eminence Front by these guys please consider it . I'm going to listen to it right now
