Endless wandering, as I fall from grace
An earthbound sailor, I gaze upon her face
Firm as the horizon, seen but never reached
Marooned upon this shore, helpless forever beached
Moonlit laughter, dances in her smile
Wind and water rises, whimsical and vile
I slip below the surface, of a momentary grave.
It breaks upon my body, embrace the crashing wave
      I hear the siren’s song
      Endless is my love
      I hear the siren’s song
      Deny me not, my love
      I hear the siren’s song
      Embrace the crashing wave
      Together we belong
The sun’s dawn light, shines upon her face
Trapped forever in her warm embrace
Drowning in dark tresses; greedily gulping air
Emotional waves vow, You, I will not spare
      I hear the siren’s song
      Endless is my love
      I hear the siren’s song
      Deny me not, my love
      I hear the siren’s song
      Embrace the crashing wave
      Together we belong
Quietly cloaked in love’s warm glow
Spare me not My Lady, never let me go
Crush my heart, my angel of the sea
A shared vision into the depths of eternity
      Rising to the heavens above
      Freed from our momentary grave,
clothed in the light of our love,
      We are the crashing wave
      Drowning in dark tresses
      I hear the siren’s song
      Endless is my love
      I hear the siren’s song

I'm 61 and this is the kind of minor-key angst-ridden stuff I listened to when I was 15. It brings tears to my eyes to see this man build a bridges and connect. By the way, they said "the way the beach is kissed by the sea." because they're English poets. The word "o'er" is a poetic way of making the two-syllable "over" and make it one syllable. This kind of thing is what made me want to be an English major.

I was born in 1956, so I'm 64 this year. Jamel, your Musical Time Machine has transported you back to the "home" you never knew you had. I get goosebumps just watching you respond to to the music that moved us back in the day. I was 17 in 1973 when I met my high school sweetheart. She was 15. We married that summer of 1978, right after I graduated from college. This year, we will celebrate our 42nd anniversary.
In 2002, I went to the wrong urologist and experienced the Vasectomy from Hell. I'm pretty sure Dr Foul-Up took the lidocaine himself and gave me a saline solution, because the "anesthesia" had no effect: The pain of the procedure was hair-raising, and his only response to my screams was to shout to his nurse to "Hold him down, Goddamnit!" Afterwards, my cajones swelled up like a rhino's and nothing--not even the proverbial bag of frozen peas--offered any relief from the pain. Long story short: From the trauma of that "surgery," I developed Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a chronically painful disorder of involving my sympathetic nerve system, in which everything is all pain all the time. Even sensations that once were pleasurable are excruciatingly painful. Needless to say, any sort of conjugal relations with my wife became impossible. I have to grit my teeth just to cuddle. Even wearing clothes can be excruciating.
So I FEEL this song. And if it makes you think about bringing home a bouquet of flowers to your lovely wife, DO THAT ... FOR ME!

"O'er" is the poetic contraction of "over" making it one syllable. This is done so as to not mess up the meter of the verse. The word "over" is "trochaic", that is, the stress is on the first syllable. The opposite of "iambic" where the stress is on the second syllable.

I was fortunate enough to see them twice. To say they were phenomenal is a gross understatement. They were this damn good. We were in the corridor at the beginning of one of their shows prior to getting our seats and as usual we heard their music playing throughout the arena, we thought it was just a recording of their music being played thru the speaker system but when we finally took our seats we noticed they had started playing quadrophenia on stage in the dark we had to look closely at first because we were like omg was that them playing all along. It was and it was incredible! They sound as good in concert as their do on their albums. Absolutely phenomenal showmen!

It's another plea to drown, only this time in the rain. Jimmy goes through a suicide crisis. He takes a boat out to a rock.... He surrenders to the inevitable, and you know, you know, when it's over and he goes back to town he'll be going through the same shit, being in the same terrible family situation and so on, but he's moved up a level. He's weak still, but there's a strength in that weakness. He's in danger of maturing."

My favorite Who songs come from their live performances from 1970. They have less production quality but do a great job of showing off their talent, and have a more raw and grungier sound. Check out My Generation from their Live at Leeds album, famous for Entwistles iconic base line. Also check out Amazing Journey/Sparks from their Live at Hull album where Keith Moon goes off.

  • @trelard

Kieth Moon is one of those drummers that set a standard for all future skin beaters to aim for. Look up some Moon the Loon stories on the web, they are crazy. A good example is when a hotel manager went to his room because of noise complaints of him listening to The Who, demos I think, at full blast. He told the manager to wait a sec and went back into his room, lit a stick of dynamite (he loved making things go bang) in the bathroom, grabbed his boombox and left the room. The TNT went off, the manager likely shit himself, and Kieth pressed play on his boom box and said "THAT was noise. THIS" pointing to his boombox "is The Who." If he hadn't have been a drummer, I could have easilly seen him as a TV comedian. The stuff he did away from his kit is as legendary as what he did behind it.
