I love how he makes me think "holy crap, he's speeding up like crazy", but then I realize he's playing to a click track. That's some impressive and musical drumming. Creating a feeling of running away while locking with a click ain't easy.
Great drummer! Funny thing is, at the start of this video, I couldn't tell what snare he was hitting. He has that thing in a unusual angle. At least I think he does.
REALLLLLLLYYYYYYYY smooth doubles with some singles interspersed in between. practice your six stroke rolls beginning with the two single accents and then extend the roll with doubles to fit the phrase. something like RLrr llRL rrll rrll to fit a one bar 4/4 with 16th notes
I've heard it said "Keith Carlock plays like he's going to punch you in the face." I don't think anyone wants to make any sudden moves and startle him into becoming a whirling windmill of fists.
The marketing patter about Gretsch drums is bit wearing. They are superb drums no doubt but he used to play Yamaha PHX and maple customs also. Superbly facilitated drummer , his gear choice is largely irrelevant... however his moeller technique is wondrous..
But have you ever owned a Gretsch kit? I thought the same thing until owning one. There's a feeling you get when you play a Gretsch that isn't like other kits. If you want versatility, high end Gretsch will give you everything
I love seeing jazz guys that nail the shit out of the kit and are still dynamic and phenomenal. Like Tony Williams.
FSM Don't forget Ginger Baker.
FSM I think Keith plays circles around Tony.
Love the groove based drumming... Thanks for this
Love his style. I can't create that ghost sound that he does so well!
Thank you Keith you are the best of the best .
Fantastic drummer
I LOVE HIS OPEN KICK SOUND, AND OF COURSE, NOTHING BEATS THAT GREAT GRETSCH SOUND !
I play my bass drum the same! I love it as well as my band does
Keith's a monster, thanks for the video.
Pretty strong. Love the rolls...Nice!
I'm going to his drum clinic in Manchester next week. I can't wait.
as the guy below said...the sound is KEITH! To me, he's the best...and so wonderful that he's had all those great gigs. Inspiring player.
First time I have heard Keith - WOW!!
Your right! I remember seeing that before, but not quite that extreme. Hey, thanks for the reply.

what a great player
can anyone tell me what is the percussion chrome type of snare that keith use in the left side
His doubles are smooth like butter. I hate him! LOL
ahaha thought the same, guess we still got to work on and on lol
Practice Practice Practice.....

something like
RLrr llRL rrll rrll to fit a one bar 4/4 with 16th notes
I believe it's an LP Micro Snare.
Didn't he used to play Yamaha?
he is now whit Gretsch drums .......
+Martin Cruz He switched in 2012 I believe.
Bad ass recovery @ 5:17
Lovely OPEN bass drum sound........i hate the way people over-muffle the bass these days.

What snare...? it’s not a matching snare to the kit.
a snare roll?
Alot of old timers with a french grip will tilt the snare away from them. It does look funny though.
5:10 - 5:25 holy shit!
wonderful drums. Best currently available. As for the clinic, ehh just ehh. Sorry Keith.

Ari Mouratides I agree Ari it's not the arrow it's the Indian 😉
Donal Hoban I personally think his Yamaha kit sounded better, especially the snare. Yamaha makes great snare drums.
No...'fucking holy fucking shit!'
doubles thats all
Keith could play a KFC bucket and it would "ring"...
Keith has lost some weight in this vid
What's wrong with this audience...... they look bored! Gimme that front row!!!
agree...they end up sounding so dead and shallow
How can a man have such incredible drumming ability and such terrible hair LOL
Sorry guys but It's quite boring.... he using always the same figures... God bless ya...
Still too many drum rolls like the early jazz guys. Anyone can do them. He is pretty good and creative, though
No I was given a clue that a moron would could do this solo, and that a moron would defend it also! j Have a nice day!
