This just awesome. I love his musicality. The ebb and flow of it. And when he tucks the stick and adds the hand to the groove is so utterly cool. And no tom/kick triplets to be found!!
Being a drummer for 5 decades now I can tell you if Buddy Rich were alive today with his jazz double sticking, big-band approach, to drumming he would sound a lot like Keith Carlock today. I saw Keith in 2007 with Steely Dan and standing in the crowd with a ton of musicians, many who were drummers... Keith lit it up! I saw a lot of smiling faces with their heads shaking at how amazing Keith was and several comments like "Man! He's fire!"
The rockin' left foot on the hihat, the angled snare and floor toms for the left hand rim shots, the effortless doubles in an orchestral manner...this is Keith Carlock at his best!
At least I can understand what he's doing & it does have a theme. Full on technicians like Virgil Donati have a theme, but they do incomprehensible independence moves that are really frustrating to learn & don't have much practical use in most drumming situations - other than to drive other drummers crazy! 😂
Love Keith's groove-based solos. You can always feel a pulse in there.

I don't see it at all (the Buddy Rich remark) and I've seen him live a dozen times and have a huge BR video collection including privately filmed.

"Avalanche Roll" with free fall acceleration, just like Elvin !

Keith is better than me but... you heard once Keith Carlock solo, you heard em all!
Dude always plays the same solo and yet I can never get tired of it!!😂😂
I know the struggle; I have a hard time keeping the weight off, too.
Kinda sad. Happened to Craig blundell now too. dude blew up. Not sure why a lot of these drummers arent taking care of their health.
@@DALTRON666 Keith has decades of age on Craig. Just a guess but touring is boring when you're not playing- hence eating, drinking ect
@@colinburroughs9871 sure but still. Feel bad for these guys
This killed Aaron Spears. It’s no laughing matter.
@@hermanmelville3871 exactly. When I heard that news I wasn't surprised at all.
Ok fantastic, wonderful, magnificient, but the same solo over 30 years!
watch some solos, and reflect on your comments.
Absolutely correct!! Steve Gadd is an other that has been playing the same shit since 1970!!!!!!
@@sticktrik thats right! 👏👏👏
You've had 30 years to practice it then . Let's hear your version.

I am sorry ..Ginger Baker’s been dead for about five years he could still do a better drum solo.. than this..
