    I am using a sort of similar method.
    Using the ProShot app on my phone I take a sequence of photos using P mode (shutter speed on auto and aperture is fixed by default).
    Stitching is pretty much explained here so... skip
    It's all one video in my case so I put it a few times on the timeline in different layers with these settings:
    Top layer: 20% opacity, start time 00:00:04
    4-th layer: 25% opacity, start time 00:00:03
    3-rd layer: 33% opacity, start time 00:00:02
    2-nd layer: 50% opacity, start time 00:00:01
    Bottom layer: 100% opacity, start time 00:00:00
    By start time it's implied that every upper layer starts 1 frame after the layer beneath it. Opacity just gets smaller if you use more layers (with 20 layers you can get to 5% pretty much)
    It imitates long exposure and the flickering is pretty much gone.

      +h i k k u s u b e i very interesting thanks for sharing! So you're not key framing the opacity?

    The LR-timelapse software makes it even better though. Smoothing out the lighting. Just change exposure when it's at 1 stop wrong exposure (or even smaller increments) when shooting and smooth it out using the raw data (done automatically with LR-timelapse).

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  6 лет назад +4

      Christoffer Lund a third of a stop is ideal, one stop can give highlight flickering that is not fixable. Lrtimelapse will be covered in another tutorial :)

    • @ChristofferLund
      @ChristofferLund 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah I see most recommend 0.3 stops. Guess it depends on what landscape you're shooting and what camera (dynamic range wise) you have. I see some people do 1 stop increments, and it can be pushing it to the limit, but it does work. Also since LrTimelapse has a de-flickering tool that makes it a little bit safer, but you know all this. Glad you'll be making a video on it too. I'm just starting to get good at timelapses myself and it's really fun. You're definitely one of the big inspirations!
      Also I just want to say keep making these amazing vids (both timelapses and vlogs). You put out fantastic stuff and I like that a lot of the funny blooper-stuff doesn't get edited out.
      And as a final note I'm noticing that trying to shoot timelapses *really* tests your patience. Gotta plan ahead so you can do something while waiting because it does take a while.

    You don't have to stop your Timelapse if you use a Genie 2
    You can change your settings anytime you want.
    I just watched another Timelapse Video that states the Opposite to you , it Recommends under exposing by 1-2 stops.
    It is always better to under expose i would of thought , especially with bright Light Blowing out your shot like a Sunrise.
    So which is better to Adjust , the Shutter or the i.s.o ?

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  5 лет назад

      The point of over exposing is so you don't have to adjust settings while the sun is going under in your frame, as you will notice flickering in the highlights due to changing the settings. Multiple methods work, this is one of them.

    Thanks for this Matt. I'm gonna have a go at this method for sure but I'm gonna try it on my go pro. How can I judge when to stop and adjust for exposure etc etc. I guess trial and error and just judging when the photos are just too dark. Tips ??

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  6 лет назад +1

      +Rob Pullen yup bit of trial and error is best, that way you really learn how these scenes work. Not sure if you can look at your photos while rolling on a gopro to review the exposure so you might have to stop the sequence when you think it's too dark

    Interesting! I've never seen this method before, it seems really complicated. You should check out an App called qDSLR Dashboard, it allows you to control and automate holy grail time lapses, edit with LR Timelapse and Lightroom and it makes this process so much easier! Also, I would never recommend over-exposing your shots as you lose detail in the highlights and always shoot in RAW for better results. Apart from that some good tips!

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  6 лет назад

      Ofcourse shooting raw and using LRT is way better and gives you more control but that wasn't the point of this video. This method is for people who have little knowledge and want to shoot it in a really easy way :)

    • @Renclif

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  6 лет назад +1

      make sure they are all sequential and that there is no gap in the sequence, that could be the issue

    • @wrinkledlemon

      Yup, they're all sequential and have no gap.
      Converting them to jpeg/tiff/other formats brings back the checkbox somehow.

    Do you have any tips for lag in Premiere? Content uploads fine, original files play smoothly, but the second I begin assembling and editing, I go to review the edited footage and there's terrible lag. Only with video, no problems with audio. This makes it pretty difficult to see if I've stabilized a clip well enough, or if there are exposure issues with my time lapses. Anyone else have this issue?

    It looks strange. Why didn't you use LRTimelapse? But the most strange: you lower the opacity of the video it is ok, mut why you make a keyframe not on the last frame, sou you're missing your frames

    • @MatthewVandeputte
      @MatthewVandeputte  6 лет назад

      because the end of some of the timelapse clips gets too dark which results in exposure pumping. If you overshoot you have more room to play with in post and get it exactly right. I didn't use LRTimelapse because that would defeat the purpose of this exact video, to use cheap and easy software.

    • @Eugene-Braack
      @Eugene-Braack 6 лет назад

      LRTimelapse is not necessary to get rid of flicker in a timelapse - it works well but you can also get rid of flicker without it. There are video FX plugins that do the same thing.

    Matthew, my personal opinion...maybe a very good process, but the way you teach is awful, you speak so fast, you move on screen so fast, maybe you want to show a flashing edited video to us....but is not the moment for that, maybe making a Tv spot,....instead, please take into consideration for beginners is not a good point, for the people who maybe want to follow you is not so pleasant...you never zoom in into the little windows inside your screen, only in the timeline, so is difficult to see while you run what kind of option do we have to click or mark. Please take my comment in a positive way, the technique is amazing but always remember, you are mainly teaching and not showing your fast skills dealing with the technique or the process, so in my case, the way you move and speak in the video made me forget the attention at the process itselfs (and I think I´m not the only want, because you have another comment about the same below) so please, keep going, you are doing an amazing job and for us we appreciate too much you share it, but please, for the next video, taking 2 pills for relaxing will be amazing....Best Regards
