Your illustrative video clips and the way they are seamlessly edited into this tutorial is just plain EPIC.
Love the outtakes. Nice touch. 🥂
This feature is underrated
Matt, just wanted to drop in and say thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. You are definitely one of my favorite content creators and your tutorials have have been super helpful. I hope our paths cross some day. Cheers.
Bloopers are the best.
For a couple of days I was asking my self what about a time lapse but more like a video shooting instead of multiple shots and a time consuming post processing??... Then you came with this video and now im considering buying the 6dmk 2. Thank you. Love your videos.
Thanks for stopping by!
Never knew Canon had added this feature... Cheers for the tips
Thanks mate
didn't leave early, love bloopers
The bloopers is what I came for
Well the hey Google you did in the bloopers set off mine in the kitchen! I couldn't work out what was going on with the delayed sound of the response when I realised it was our Google mini responding to your humidity question! 😂😂😂
Just in case any Nikon fanboys watch this and feel tempted to switch, the D810 and D850 (maybe others, I know these two definitely do as I have the D850) do this too, called exposure smoothing and it works really well :) I do timelapses as part of my job and don't always have time/capability for the full RAW workflow and the plug and play is ohsomuchnicer sometimes. Great vid!
Chris R thanks Chris that's great to know! I'll add it to the blog.
Hey Do you use exposure soothing when shooting manual timelapse? i havent seen much difference
My Panasonic GH5 and G85 both do this 4K timelapse as well! Couldn't live without it haha =)
Thanks again for the tutorial Matthew!
Thanks for watching mate :)
Wow! What a quality, succinct video! Thank you
Thanks Shane
I actually had no idea the Canon 5Ds had a timelapse mode... and I've owned one for nearly 2 years!
Love the bloopers never fails to be hilarious 🤙🏼
thanks :)
Haha, those outtakes were so good! I'm telepathically sending our cold wind over to you, but you gotta send yours back this way I'm July S:D
haha will do
I would like to see you on the field during these tutorials sessions.
Got a big shoot on next weekend, will be shooting while producing an overnight edit.
Great vids - very informative! Thanks for posting!
thanks ,great video and bloopers are hilarious too.
Shweaty ballz! Bloopers were hilarious. Great tutorial mheng!
Thaaaanks!!
Hi Matt, I've tried timelapse with a gopro and i hate it, the FoV is wrong and altering it gives the wrong aspect. So I have a 6D2 and I'm trying to find out how long I can make a timelapse for .... I need approx 1fps over a 4 hour period. I make that 14,400 frames which will give a result of an 8 minute video at 30fps. I could go to i frame every 2 seconds to shorten the result and bring the total frames down to under the 9999 limit.
So my question is this: everything I read says that the 6d2 has a record limit of 30 minutes, so how can I get past this so I can have it taking frames for 4hrs?
Thanks for this video, I think your timelapse are amazing . Just a question: I’ve tried to make a timelapse with my 6D mark II and if I choose 1 shot/second I can’t select more than 3600 shots . It’s normal or it’s depend how much space I have in the SD Card ? Or maybe I have to make a lot of differenza time lapses and after that connect the different videos with a post-production software ? I don’t understand what I have to do for male a very long timelapse without make an interrupt between 2 or more videos . Thanks for your help !
Thanks for this informative video. I do some time-lapse (astro) with a 77D + QDLSRdashbord and LRT. I like the options I have with the RAW files but sometimes I would love to speed things up. This days I'm looking for a full frame but there is to much talk around the 6D MkII (ISO/noise). Would you recommend it for astro and landscape?? (...still after You use it for a while now?)
Hi Matthew, your vids are really cool. I am new to timelapse so am wondering why you use F4 as an aperture for your cityscapes in most of your videos and not a mid range F8-11? Is it due to eliminating aperture flicker?? Thanks!
Great tut mate :) btw, where did you shoot from? I mean the spot somewhere in the north?!
Nice info..i just bought the canon 77d and want to make sunset timelapse through video mode..is it safe for camera sensor ?
80d does not do this.
I cry
Can you edit in the video clip post effectively to mitigate not getting those nice raw frames ? Does that make sence ...
Thr 5D mk4 has timelapse mode but not holy grail settings , im wondering if canon would do a firmware upgrade to fix this at some stage Matthew ?
Why do you switch to manual focus? And is this after you have focused the shot?
Hey Matt, love your video mate, fantastic. I recently bought a 6Dmkii and have been playing around with the video time-lapse, you mentioned to stay on AV and auto ISO, for Holy Grail, what Maximum setting to you set the Auto ISO too? I have noticed the ISO ranges dramatically and the shutter stays around a 30th. Appreciate any help. Alan.
Hi Alan! I've got mine set to 1600 iso max, hope that helps!
@@MatthewVandeputte thanks mate, I’ll give it a go :) appreciate you getting back to me. Love your work :)
Hi Matt, I tried this out yesterday, not to shoot a sunset but to test using the build in 4k timelapse in the 6DMkII. I followed your guide above but there is one thing I can't seem to do that you suggest. When the camera is in video mode and aperture priority I can't change the aperture all I can seem to do is alter the exposure compensation.
Same ere mike. Did you find out why it wouldn't work?
Hi Matt, I wonder if you noticed that in the Canon manual (p. 349), they do say that both T and A modes are not used. If you do set it there, it will default to P mode. So it will NOT fix the aperture as you mentioned. Or have you found that it is able to in fact constrain the shutter speed or aperture?
Hi..Did you figure this out after? As I have the same issue I can't set the aputure it stays at f4
If I wanted to shot night lapse or starlapse? I can it?
Are you still using the Ramper Pro?
Could you do an in depth tutorial using LRTimelapse please 🙏
It'll happen eventually!
does it rise your shutter count or not ?
Hey, started using this 4k timelapse mode lately and I've been trying to push the limits of the mode, i've been wanting to do 30 second shutter speed images to create long trail smooth type looking images but I find when i do this I am meant to have around 1 min of footage but end up coming out with 1 second. I'm guessing this is because im setting it to 1 second intervals maybe? becuase its impossible to do 30 second images every second but do you have a way around this? will i need to set my interval time to match the shutter speed time. Also i've noticed when im putting up the amount of shots i want it to take when i go upto a certain amount the numbers go red what does this mean? thanks for the tips on auto exposure i'll give that a go next time (I have my sample footage on my channel)
Anything like this for sony? i have the a6300
Great - this is not available on the 5d mk iv
I currently have the canon 5D mark 4 and I know I don’t have the holy grail settings and I’ll have to do this manually but I was curious. Where do you recommend having the aperture at when it comes to doing a timelapse for a sunrise? Thanks in advance
I often shoot at f4 to keep the aperture wide open and shoot with a fast shutter speed. Deflckering is often needed in post
Holy fuck I’ve got the mk 2 and didn’t know this ........ thanks Matt 👍🏻
Hey brother thanks for the tutorial..I can do these on the 5D3 am I right ? However no 4k hah.. you should come to India
No, this feature isn't available on the 5d3. You have to do it manually.
No timelapse movie mode on the 5D3 unfortunately..
its my go-to method. just lately my 6d2 started to refuse to modify aperture in Av mode/video.. so weird
Same ere. Did you find out why?
been trying to find out all over the internet and also messaged Matt.. couldnt find out at all
driging me crazy

@@travel9to5 sorry only now seeing this.. aw 😑 it's so frustrating still no change ere still can't set the aputure 😩 I may try a firmware update see if that fixes it
@@travel9to5 also I noticed that matt is on f4 on his camera screen and that's what mine is stuck at. Might go back to the old way of shooting timelapse 😂 if you need a software to deflicker your timelapse try tldf it does everything for you there's a video on RUclips about it. Check it out 👍👍👍👍
Also any advice on how i can fix up a whole bunch of timelapses i have done. I shot them all (holy grail) in aperture priority using a variable ND filter which i changed to try and keep my shutter speed the same and not have an overexposed shot however there are obvious exposure and colour changes every time i changed the ND filter.
The reason i shot in aperture priority and not manual is because i'm new to this and i have ruined a timelapse previously by it being overexposed to the point its not useable and i was overseas traveling with 1 shot to get a timelapse.
Thanks for your time in reading this and replying if you do 😊
I never recommend using ND filters as they'll always have some colour cast. Try running them through the visual deflicker mode in LRT but it might not be possible to save them..
I did a time lapse every second day while I was travelling around Asia for 2 months, dummer to hear they might not be saved 😢.
I will try visual de flicker. Thanks Matt 🙂👍
i use the 80d. It can also or only 6dii ?
Tatchapol Yubmanboriboon not sure, I don't think it has the holy grail setting, it might have the timelapse video mode tho
thank you so much for your reply :DD, i learn a lot from you about TL thank man
End of d clip is fk.... 😅😅 love it...
You've just made me buy another canon...
Jake Rich hahaha sorryyyy
Where are the bloopers? I thought that was just normal ;)
*in *IN ! *IN July...ffs.
Im only sub 40 so I have a cube on my desk to see how many solves I can do while rendering my time lapses aswell ;)
Can you do a 2 second exposure with this possibly?
👏 . . .😮 . . . 🙂👏
Coolcoolcool
thxx
I thought I am the only one. . .😂😂
Great feedback but listening to instruction or settings is like listening to a parrot talk..way to fast.. Either way, thank you.
That is a very very poor Time-lapse...
What don't you like about it?
It's like food without salt.
