So glad I saw the film 'Ukraine on fire'. For too long have I gone along with the 'Russia bad West good' narrative. Well no more. And if I wasn't convinced before that Sweden and Finland joining NATO was a good idea then now I think it's an absolutely terrible idea.

I listened to them and got even more aware of the danger, both regarding Putin and people like Oliver Stone (who I used to respect re Central America). In the world there is a clear recrudescence of authoritarian politics: not only Trump or Putin (where bay Putin already had created his one party government with all opposition either excluded or in prison) but also LePen, Farage, The German AfD , Modi etc. and people like Stone although themselves no authoritarian right wingers go along with it or do not see it.

Russia tried to join the EU and Nato and expand trade with the west and was denied . I think the world would have benefited from all of this .
Sometimes I just think they want a boggie man to blame for the problems they create . Most people know nothing about Russia or Putin except the propaganda .

Just because the word "hacking" is most associated with "hacking a computer" does not mean that the phrase "hacking an election" means "hacking the computers of that election". The word "hacking" means gaining unauthorized access to some kind of system and manipulating it in a way that it should not be. No, I do not think you have judged this correctly. If Stone is controversial and brings up views that make FT readers uncomfortable, that just makes it a better interview. I think that the interviewer, who did a good job, had to deal with two issues. Firstly, a shortage of time: He needed to ask the key questions quickly and get a succinct response. Secondly, Stone is not particularly articulate. Or, if he is, he hides it very well. He tended to respond to a straight question with fustian. Hence the need to move the conversation on.

The interview that Mr. Oliver Stone conducted with Mr. Putin is trully the best interview I have ever watched. Mr. Putin clearly explained the attempts Russia made to accommodate the post Cold War world without response from the West. The narrative we see today from the West is simply one sided. The West should sit-down with Mr. Putin and really respect Russia intents for a balanced world.

I think we have to get used to the idea of multiple (and sometimes contradicting) truths.
Putin can have legitimate security concerns, and have a useful perspective on say Nato development and the Arab Spring, while at the same time being an autocrat who has an interest in sabotaging liberal democracies, and having become overconfident in his ability to use violence, has now unleashed something in Ukraine he cannot put back.
It's possible for Ukraine to be a nation with a problematic history of corruption, and troubling far-right groups (like almost any country, mind you), and also be a country of innocent people who do not deserve the hell they are going through now.
We can be both critical and empathetic.
It's possible that even if the US was a truly well-meaning and responsible world leader they can still do incredible damage by spreading their influence around the world.
Oliver Stone can be a smart person who puts his finger on important points, while at the same time having the conspirialist tendency to fit all the problems he sees in the same narrative.

Just use your brain for 2 fking minutes and think for yourself, is a country with a dictator good for their people or the world in general, or is a free open country where people can vote in their leader which they respect and support their views better. You speak from a place of safety and freedom typing this nonsense to be objective for a man that throws people in jail who protest in his country and gets news journalist assisanited who don't follow his agenda. Spoiled is what most people in free countries are so much so that they say nonsense to support dictators smh. I didn't need to news station or anyone in the world to tell me to never support a dictator it's just fking common sense if you live in a free country that you would NEVER want that for you or any other country. And before you say ima leftist for having a brain and coming up with my own conclusions that have nothing to do with the news but everything to do with never supporting any dictator, I would have voted for trump because I'm able to see through the medias lies. Furthermore, NATO is a defensive pact. The idea is that if an outsider attacks you, all other NATO members will come to your defense.
