If you dig the dam out- put it few feet away-right their and more easy to get to than first time for the beaver. I would set their in the machine and wait for them to come back-they will same night.
You did pretty good for a rookie Beaver dam buster. What attracts a beaver is flowing water leaving the area he wants to flood. That’s why he built in front of the stream bed leaving the area. The thing aiding beavers most where trees growing near, or in front of the small stream, he used them for reinforcing the dam. You should have removed those trees directly in the path of the water flow. Think like a beaver, a damn builder. The only way to really get rid of a problem beaver is with dynamite or a bullet. You’ll probably be back if he’s living in the area. You do get big credit for being smart enough to take the pipe and use it as a leveling tool. You get a gold star for that. Learning comes with time, and you got plenty of time to learn. I subscribed.
Yeah I probably should have took those trees I guess I didn’t think of it lol. I appreciate the advice too. I’ll have a better idea of how to tackle it next time. Thanks for watching

Looks good done yeah doesn't take a beaver long to make a big mess. Never hurts to try new things and check it off the bucket list. Keep up the great videos
Just a bit of advice. I have to do this a couple of times a year. Don't use the machine as a digging machine. Use it as a clamshell. If I touch it, I grab it and move it out of the way. Also go back the next day and repeat. They will try to build it back. I have shut off machine and waited 20 to 30 minutes to see them surveying the damage. After a couple of times they get the hint and move on. Nice job on the cleanup. Shows you care .
Little tip. Dig out the damn from the back forward before you break the front to keep debris from washing away downstream where it may cause clogs and stream bead diversions. A buddy of mine's dad had an ongoing beaver problem up in Michigan when I was a teen on the large farm. He pays us to go out and unclog them a couple times of the year with a home built back ho built on an old Ford F250 truck chassis. We got paid to have a blast. We'd go back once the branches and stuff had dried and save it for bonfire kindling at parties we'd have in a clearing in the middle of their forrested property using a hay trailer for bands to play on.
Yeah that probably would have been I just got a little excited I guess I knew people would like to see the water crashing over lol! That sounds like a good time there. Appreciate the comment and you watching
If you would take some advice from an old guy who never had the convenience of using an excavator to demolish a beaver dam, remove as many of the bracing sticks from behind the dam as you can before releasing the water. Especially in situations like this where there is a culvert downstream. That will keep a lot of limbs from being stuck in it and make things flow better and be easier all around. Those critters have caused me lots of misery and more cash than I like to think about and I always had to rip them out manually. Good job on the tear out, not shabby at all for your first beaver busting. Lol
Yeah I wondered about that after I broke through. I was like whoops I probably should have got those first lol. I will know next time and I appreciate the advice. Thank you for watching too
When we do them and this is just how we do it not saying it’s right or wrong. We clean out the back side of the dam first. Get all the sticks and logs out of the way. Then we only break it a little. I may or may not have had to repair a culvert or two down stream before from breaking them open to fast and washing stuff out down stream.
The only concern that comes up for me is what is happening down steam. I have to assume that most small streams can't handle a burst damn without some problems.
The only way to "out engineer" a beaver is to be more stubborn. If you're stubborn enough the beaver will finally give up at that location. You made it look easy.
Thank you! It is fun. Yeah I’m way behind on videos, I’ve been working about 80 hours a week so I just haven’t had the time to edit. I think I have 7 or 8 videos to work on. Hopefully this weekend I’ll work on them and get back on a schedule. Appreciate you watching

I’m sure you ticked off a few families with the size of that damn dam lol especially with leaving their building materials right next to the excavated spot I’m sure they were thankful you didn’t drag it too far lol.
WOW! Short work of that flow! Hey, Brandon, you got a plumber's license cuz you certainly cleared that 'clog'! Now watch all the job offers come in from ROTO-ROOTER (where Brandon gets out ALL THE ROOTS!). Nice job!
Oh, the comments you received. You should have done this, you should have done that, you should have done some other thing. Don’t worry, ya done good, and using that old drain pipe was pure genius.
Kinda interesting, my grandfather and I have spent time trying to encourage beavers to build dams on a hunting lease. They used to dam the oxbow lakes. Those lakes made excellent fishing holes, and helped kept the area a wetland, which in turn the loggers out and made sure the deer and turkey always had mature mixed timber. Of course, the timber and later "land management " company that owned the land was less pleased with the beavers. Combine that with a few dry years, and the loggers finally managed to get in and log off most of the old(er) growth, with really only the immediate area of the main channel remaining unlogged. This of course has accelerated the silting process. Oh well, a few wet years and new channels will be blown out, and new oxbows formed. And really the only thing I am a bit peeved with the land company about is their failure to clean up after the clear cut. Massive piles of tops and "trash" wood, and no replanting even of pines, let alone the mix of oaks, pine, cedar and cypress that came off the land. The cypress and pine should replant themselves pretty well, but the good oaks and the cedar will struggle, especially with some of the invasive species around that tend to choke them out when they're young.
I should add that this wasn't intended as a criticism of DP or the landowner for breaking that beaver dam, but rather a hopefully interesting anecdote.
