  • THE WARRIOR QUEEN OF JHANSI tells the true historical story of the Rani (translation: Queen) of Jhansi, a feminist icon in India and a fearless, freedom fighter - a real-life Wonder Woman who earned a reputation as the Joan of Arc of the East when in 1857 India, as a 24-year old General, she led her people into battle against the British Empire. Her insurrection shifted the balance of power in the region and set in motion the demise of the notorious British East India Company and the beginning of the British Raj under Queen Victoria.

    • @shriyatiwari3088
      @shriyatiwari3088 4 года назад +3

      Manikarnika is a very unauthentic movie. I just can't bare how they've depicted the Rani, always wearing the most beautiful jewellery there is. There's no flow in it.. it looks so framed and staged for God's sake she was a widowed warrior not a pampered princess. There are no other angles in the movie, it revolves around Kangana in all aspects. She was not a modern day feminist as portrayed in any movie, she was a yoddha. No doubt Kangana acted so well but I was sorry to see the amount of glamour they've put in there.
      And to be very honest I've heard of a lot of legends about brave kings and princes of India who fought the British valiantly but I've never heard of even one who remained behind and bowed before the cruel company, not because they wanted the empires, but because they wanted to save their people as much as they can from cruel policies of the company.
      After Jhansi ki Rani defeated the Brits in Jhansi and left for Kalpi, 5000 citizens of jhansi were butchered and massacred by the Brits when they got hold of the place. If you know what I mean...

    The only aspect that I completely loathe is the usual trappings and misconceptions of portraying feminism that are clearly seen onscreen,which clearly repetitively shows men in a poor,sexist light ..I feel its needless and absolutely not required...One can champion feminism even without showcasing men with negativity and a devil-may-care sexist attitude.
    Well researched historians have had evidences and artefacts to show that men supported and swore allegiance to the Rani of Jhansi in huge numbers...Right from the veteran generals of Jhansi to the sepoy mutineers(whom she initially sought protection against and was opposed to their barbarian acts of targetting European women and children)all eventually supported her and helped her raise an army of around 15,000 men alongside the women( who were personally trained in combat by her)...In reality,the male soldiers or generals did not have any apprehensions or pass any kind of sexist remarks as shown in the trailer - Do you think you can make these women fight like men???..The very fact that after her husband's death,majority of Jhansi"s population(the majority are men though) immensely respected her as the queen and did not put her through the hackneyed,regressive practice of Sati shows their allegiance to her...I am fine with fictionalization and dramatisation to make it an appealing watch,after all not many like to watch a real-tme biography...The part which is not fine though is that millions of male soldiers lost their lives to fight for her and they were unflinching in their support and regard for her,willingly denigrating them by portraying them in an
    otherwise over-the -top sexist manner is jarring.
    Along with this,she also had a personal male escort who risked his life to protect her on her perilous escape from Jhansi to the Kalpi...He got badly injured in a sword fight with another native who had noticed her escape and was about to inform the British..He created the diversion and she successfully escaped to Kalpi,where Tantya Tope and Nana Sahib joined her with twenty thousand more men.All these men accepted the Rani of Jhansi as their leader,including the King of Gwalior who gave her refuge in his own Fort...They carried forward her passion and did how much ever was possible until their very last breath.If they were truly that sexist,two things that are facts would have never happened:-
    1.Initially,Rani of Jhansi was pretty much happy with being the conventional housewife.After her husband's death(she was still a teenager then)the British expected she would undertake Sati and that Jhansi would walk into their palms ..What they did not realise is that all the late king's veteran generals and commanders stood by her like a rock,they wanted her to be given the reputation and status befitting a Queen and simultaneously demanded her adopted son to be made the crown prince.It was the state's veteran commander general who had known her since she was a kid,he realized she had quite a liking for martial arts and wrestling along with sword -fighting,after she became a Queen-he trained her along with other boys to become proficient in such arts.If the men in her life were truly as sexist as shown in the trailer,she would not have become the fearless queen she became..Their unconditional support played a huge supportive role to her infinite courage and boldness...The men in the army rallied around her whenever she needed some assistance.Tantya Tope tried not once but twice with an army of around 20000 guerillas to divert the British army while they were on their way to seige the Fort of Jhansi....They got brutally massacred in their attempts,but yet,we know where there loyalties actually lay......Salute the women and their courage, speak ill and condemn the patriarchal culture that exists...For it has many damning flaws but that does not mean you cannot make a movie about feminine icons without showing the men as sexist.. to have those mandatory scenes of talismanic male generals and soldiers ,under-rated for their bravery and feats and portray them in a contrary sexist light...Just for a certain symbolism and token feminism is sorry to say,nauseating...There are honestly,much better ways to commemorate feminism.
    2.It was only after the the British realized she had overwhelming support ofher citizens ,men and women alike....and regard as the queen.They began to accept her reforms like abolishing the Purdah system,reducing the caste culture ,increasing the capacity for the state library and education for women...None of the men had any apprehensions about any aspect of women empowerment.
    3.Tantya tope and Nana Saheb both have known the Rani of Jhansi since her very tender days.They played together as children,so as shown in the clipping that she reiterates she is a queen and not Manu when Tantya tries to speak to her about being impulsive....is just folklore.....with that kind of bonding from childhood,neither would she berate one of her best pals for saying so nor would they have a formal relationship of a queen and her general between them.Both these were the best of army generals,as crafty and shrewd in war tactics as ever but neither demanded respect from her...Another overtly dramatized piece to suit feminism,just to give the jarring message that men need to respect women always even though he did not really do anything disrespectful.They were friends and allies and neither took orders from one another,but they had mutual respect and regard and were known to be there for one another when need be.
    Also the fact that her father always supported her and never had any curbs on her freedom,played a huge role in her upbringing....something which the trailer chooses to just brush aside and focus more on the sexist side of her generals and allies,which according to many historians...never existed.

    • @bc8023
      @bc8023 5 лет назад +5

      @@arkamukherjee6802 A lot of bold statements were made there like stupid indian audience, what if kangna had more creative liberty (which she had, due to which original crew of the movie was entirely replaced by her dominating stardom, nothing wrong with that, totally respect that but still movie turned out to be this weak storied one dominant character show) and calling someone a terrorist, remind you this stupid audience is responsible for other great movie success including biopics and original works, andhadhun, mary kom, milkha singh to name a few, plus I never mentioned that kangna was any bad in her movie, it was simply the case that she was in a movie with below average story, now who's responsible for that, it's not for me to judge, coming to the terrorist point, sanjay Dutt's biopic was far far from his original life and was highly sugercoated, but it's the compelling stardom of director rajkumar hirani and actor ranbir kapoor that made it success, however in manikarnika, kangna was the only shining factor of it, even though they had a compelling cast but their role was plain and limited not giving any struggle to the protagonist. As for this movie trailer, i didn't say this is good but is compelling (as was manikarnika trailer), only watching the movie will decide that, I did went and watched manikarnika and to my disappointment it focused more on aesthetically pleasing scenes (which is good) but lacked any emotion as the protagonist didn't face any real challange that should have been the heart of the movie, how she overcame it. The thing is, making bold statements is easy but nothing is as boack and white as it's portrayed. Appreciating things the way they are (as a biopic should be) and doing justice to it is important.

      @S L well dude, what foreigners had been creating for last 40-50 years has been of quality standards. You can get out of slave mentality but cannot deny the fact, right? That's not to say we cannot do quality standard work. We definitely can, and can beat foreigners in every game when we stay authentic. Just look ISRO. Problem is that authenticity part. Where you need to be honest to the core. We are too lethargic to do it, and to cover it up our society cultivates all sorts of negative values which includes berating someone who praises the quality standard of "foreigners' " work. This practice has led us today to this low pint as a country. 'Swades' dekha hai na? Srk ka dialogue yaad kar lo. 'Hum nehi maante hamara desh duniya me sabse aage hai. Par hum ye zaroor maante hai ke hamaara des duniya me sabse aage ban saktaa hai'. Hope you understand my point.

      Bro go and check box office collection of Andhadhun,Milkha Singh, MK etc along with Simba , golmaal,Bharat,pream ratan dp,dhamal,zero etc..you will have your answer about the intelligence of indian audiences..
      2nd Stardom of Raju hirani ..bro do you think any director in India ever a star?? Except S.Ray...300crs sanju had earned ..do you think 300 people even know who is the director of the film or even bother???dude again you're mistaken with Hollywood..it's raju hirani not Christopher Nolan😂😂
      And about Stardom in India: you know the funny thing in India that's this country never given respect or done justice to its talent..just take example of Netaji and gandhi ji , salman vs manoj bajpai, income of an ias vs income of a low grade party leaders, Indira gandhi has an airport on her name and may be 1000 more things but rani laxmi bai has a small statue on her name... even spoil brat in film who can act never made it big like Akshay khanna, pratik babbar etc..this starkids made a little mistake that they can act a bit and never seen roaming around with deepika padukone,katrina and alia etc.. never seen kjo coffee shop..bro india main sriff heroine ki bikini dance chalti hain..I don't think even kangana can decode by how kangana became The kangana..
      Before Manikarnika their were few movies on martyrs likes of Bhagat sing,mangol pande etc ..but only few dogs and crows came to watch that ok...so it simple to point out fingers at someone but it's not easy to pull up a 100 crs movie and take full responsibility as an actres..

I wish this time the Brits have done a good job depicting all the sides , looks promising when "yeah She speaks in Marathi finally yes that was her mother tongue".I hope this story does justice and really brings the true inspirational tale of the brave warrior queen Jhansi ki Rani "Rani Laxmi Bai".

Else would he have given a rat's ass about our content? And would you have done the same if not for his nationality? This movie has been produced by foreigners too but at least those guys have done their homework related to Indian history and have conducted extensive research before putting their money into a project which pays homage to one of India's key historical figures. That Koay guy knows nothing about our history and is too lazy to even undertake some research on the same despite being a perpetually lethargic, jobless couch potato. All he's doing is overcompensating for his failed life by trying to make a quick buck, milking the sentiments and complexes of gullible fools like yourself. Do you seriously need approval from such people? Grow up man! Wake up and smell the coffee.

    why everybody comparing this too manikarnika
    manikarnika had many flaw
    but
    every industry should have it own way of telling story
    if we would copy Hollywood style in every thing
    we will end up killing our own industry like Russian and European did
    and china is doing
    I am not proud all what all indian movies do but at least in this way
    they can retain their uniqueness.
