I wish more people would take time to study the Great War. It brings a greater understanding to some of the episodes that people know more about in the Second War. For my part the French People need never again prove their mettle in combat. Many Americans give the French a lot of guff for how quickly they capitulated to Hitler in 1940. But when you understand how hard they fought, and under the most atrocious of conditions, during the Great War, you find it easy to forgive. Those French soldiers grew up hearing stories of the horrors of Verdun, and the Somme from their fathers.

There was a 2015 German film called Victoria which was a single shot movie (maybe it was two long single shots, not sure). Anyway, I was very impressed with the technical achievement of the single shot.
I think there are cut points but very hard to spot. Can you imagine the tension of a single shot film around the 2 hour mark? Just before one of the soldiers cell phone accidentally goes off.
George Mackay is absolutely beautiful, I love how natural he is in all his movies. He the most raw and real actor I’ve ever seen in my life. Absolutely incredible in every single way. I would do anything to tell him that but he doesn’t have social media yet another thing I admire about him.
Just watched this in the cinema. It's an absolutely masterpiece. 10/10. Truly an incredible film, that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout.

For anyone who hasn’t watched this movie and likes war movies, you’re so missing out...I’ve watched a lot of war movies in the past, but this one has taken the lead by far. Just watched it there now, and man...the fact that a lot of it was just one continuous take was really immersive, and it had such a gripping storyline. Everything about this film has you hooked from start to finish. It’s a great watch!

It probably will be. The synopsis I've heard is two privates go behind enemy lines trying to deliver a message to stop an assault. So you're basically correct.
It's so far ahead of the competition it's unfair. It's only "flaw" was that, while all acting was solid, there was nothing memorable. However, the way this was shot must have taken such a toll of the leads it's forgivable.
Samuel Pérez García I would disagree with you on that, there where some pretty memorable shots in the movie, won’t go into detail, but the shot in the trailer where we see him running thru the battalion of soldiers while dodging bombs left and right is a pretty memorable shot. There are more shots that still think about, but I don’t want to spoil the movie for those who haven’t seen it.
@@alanmichael999 Have you already seen the Russian film "Come and See"? highly recommend it. it's one of the most realistic and anti-war film I've seen. and also the anime film "Grave of The Fireflies" it's quite heartbreaking but worth the watch.
Really? Comparing 1917 and dunkirk with saving private ryan is a joke. SPR is a real war movie with a lot of action in it. And very very good action. Dunkirk and 1917 are very long dramatic films with almost no action. For me the 2 worst war movies ever.
Everybody agrees, but you dont know the meaning of this right? When your mind is under pression and stressful situations, it is difficult to think, I've seen this many times, when you see a danger aproaching, its an instinct to run in the opposite direction

The film struck to the core... The film is gorgeous. The creators managed to do the main thing - complete immersion. Do not just watch a movie, but experience everything that the hero is experiencing. You jerk, fear, tremble, get colder from horror, marvel, you feel horror and pain. An incredible picture ... The breathtaking ... Picture gives an understanding of what war ... War is our common human grief and calamity. Thanks to the creators for this masterpiece of creation ... I convey my enormous gratitude from Russia.

I never thought a running scene in a film would make me cry but when he is running across the battlefield the tears were just streaming down my face, it's a beautiful scene!
Any time an enemy specialist gets put in play, they singlehandedly carry the team to a win. Any time my team gets a specialist, he charges solo and dies 10 seconds after launch or teabags me in a hole somewhere.
This is a movie best seen on the big screen. Utterly brilliant. George Mackay’s performance was beyond amazing. How he didn’t win an Oscar is beyond me. Everyone I’ve recommended it to was as impressed as I was.
As an extra on this it was the best experience of my life, running over the trench to the whistle surrounded by like minded adrenalin loaded lads dodging explosions. Was so immersive! Even got to shake Roger Deakins hand, humble brag.
I saw this movie while on an Emirates flight while coming over to Karachi from Dubai for the last time. Was definitely impressed by the cinematography and story. It became doubly heartbreaking and emotional for me when Blake died, not only because of Sco losing his best friend, but also how I could relate to it. My father lost his job in Dubai and we had to leave for good. Suddenly I had to leave behind all I held dear to myself. My birthplace, my friends, my house. All those long years and wonderful memories, all gone.
I just found out my great-great grandfather was a WWI vet. I came back to watch this trailer after learning about him. This trailer and movie have become much more personal to me now.
Can we just have a moment of silence for those who passed away in the war? This Iran America thing is literally an insult to these men, who thought they’d be ending all wars so we could live in peace
Pretty sure there was no choice if you were poor - It was either fight on the front line in Europe or get shot in the back of the head. Risk a 70% chance of death - or face 100% chance of death - Interestingly, the officer that allowed his troops to play football with the Germans on Christmas day was shot in the head for doing so....
On a serious note, this is honestly one the most impressive and technically well shot movie I have ever seen. Please do yourself a favor and watch it.

@Hazza Brown it means one long take. no cuts.
There was a 2015 German film called Victoria which was a single shot movie (maybe it was two long single shots, not sure). Anyway, I was very impressed with the technical achievement of the single shot.
the only full film in a single shot is Russian Ark... i dont think its getting done again
I think there are cut points but very hard to spot. Can you imagine the tension of a single shot film around the 2 hour mark? Just before one of the soldiers cell phone accidentally goes off.

There are German soldiers not Turkish. So probably in Verdun, France.

and I can see this movie taking the OSCAR for best motion picture + best director + best cinematography
GUARNTEED!
It's so far ahead of the competition it's unfair. It's only "flaw" was that, while all acting was solid, there was nothing memorable. However, the way this was shot must have taken such a toll of the leads it's forgivable.

The cinematographer are Roger Deakins! The same guy that work in Blade Runner 2049
