The oil that was used prior to buying the truck was very cheap and had built up wax in the engine so when we put in good oil,it started to break down the wax and clogged the pickup causing it to loose oil pressure.
Did the truck throw any codes at first when you installed and it wouldn’t turn over . I have the exact same problem I replaced my 2003 3.7 dodge ram engine with a Dakota engine and won’t start but it gave me a code that said (intermittent loss of cmp or ckp ) but now I also know that I need to change the reluctor ring

I believe it did which is what led me to the reluctor ring, don't forget to check your cam tone ring as well
