for me the scene at 0:03 "shall we?" is the best acting scene. Incredible plastic and animated, I sincerely believe no actor ever got close to that, he is a more like a cartoon than a person. I believe the director told Keaton play your character how you want it, we don't care and then Keaton went in there with no direction and no constrains and unleashed everything he could and did a hell of a job.

Yet Lydia's kept the ring and by the time the cartoon was made, the Maitlands crossed over and Lyds and BJ became BFFs to the point that the B-guy clearly has a obsession with his little goth human companion.
I was at a restaurant last night and my waitress was in costume (for Halloween) and she was dressed just like Winona Ryder from this scene, identical black wig and red dress. Near dead ringer. She was stunning.
Shanethefilmmaker Actually, some fans of both the film and series WANT the wedding anyway. Lydia DID make a deal, after all, and he kept his end of the bargain, and as they say, "A deal's a deal...even with a dirty dealer." Even the original proposed sequel, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian, was going to tone down BJ and make him and Lyds friends (possibly more), which inevitably lead to the cartoon spin-off. Naturally, because that first sequel concept never got off the ground beyond a script and a new one is being done as a 20-years-afterward story, with Keaton still as Betelgeuse and Ryder reprising Lydia, but now as a 40+ something, Lydia can make up her own mind (of course, since Glen Shadix as Otho is actually dead, having ironically fallen down stairs, and Jeffrey Jones as Charles Deetz is a real-life sexual predator, which might account for why he didn't stop the undead Keaton from trying to marry his movie daughter, they won't be coming back for Beetlejuice 2, but it's a lock officially that Burton as director, Keaton as The Ghost With The Most, and Ryder as the now-middle aged Lydia will be on board). After all, although 16 is the legal age of consent in many states, it's still taboo, and even if Burton thrives off that, he had to placate to those who would invest in the film, as opposed to doing it the way he wanted, with Betel as a chaotic neutral anti-hero and Otho as the true villain, but now, with Lydia being 40+ and able to choose her own path in life, or death as the case might be, all bets and shackles (unless used for "Mr. Beetleman"s perversion) are off, so Burton can canonize BJ/Lyds now if he wants.
The cartoon made their relationship (to me) look implied romantic even though it's totally illegal since in the cartoon she was probably even younger than in the movie. O_o
+Nightman221k: She was. 13. in the cartoon. Definite squick. Nevermind the innuendos. Also, the Rule 34 the animators literally drew during breaks that are the in-canon answer to the B-guy's red finger tips, since he admits, "I get my fingers into everything" & "I really get into my work", and the naughty pics were set during Lydia's menstrual cycle.
I would like to think that if they made a new movie about a 40 yr old plus Lydia, they should also fully redeem BJ's character. I mean he had already started to change by the time of the TV series anyways.I personally like the idea that the kind hearted Lydia changed BJ into a better person over time. At around 40 yrs old Lydia would be approaching the end of her youth days, and heading into middle age. If I were writing the script I would have her actually sacrificing herself and dying for BJ,her parents,or the Maitlands by the end.As the recently deceased she would no longer age anymore, and she could become BJ's eternal bride.

Michael Keaton is amazing in this character. You can’t tell it’s him at all.
In the cartoon Lydia is 12 years old. Beetlejuice is her friend because that is all she's ready for at the moment. She says as much to Prince Vince.
The cartoon de-aged her to fit the younger child/preteen audience that watched it. In the film & musical, she's 16, the legal age of sexual consent.
Considering how Beetlejuice lived through the black plague. That makes sense. Age of consent laws used to be much lower back then

Yet Lydia's kept the ring and by the time the cartoon was made, the Maitlands crossed over and Lyds and BJ became BFFs to the point that the B-guy clearly has a obsession with his little goth human companion.
When your ghost parents meet your real ones.
Keaton is a legend: Beetlejuice, Batman, now the Vulture. Love it. What a treasure!
HE IS THE BATMAN!
I was at a restaurant last night and my waitress was in costume (for Halloween) and she was dressed just like Winona Ryder from this scene, identical black wig and red dress. Near dead ringer. She was stunning.
I got a beetlejuice the musical add before this 😂 lol
Lydia was about to marry Batman.
TherealRNO omfg if he makes bj and lydia cannon 0-0 i will scream with happiness.
That'd be so awesome! =D
