  • I’m not done with Halo, don’t worry. This is very different from my usual videos but given how awesome Scorn had the potential to be, I felt compelled to create it. Scorn isn't a horrible game but it is a massive missed opportunity and here's why.

in all seriousness they put too much work into the wrong areas. hope they make another game focused on the story. maybe scorn could just be a unexplained 1st person story of the protagonist and then the next game could explain it all somehow without shoving 17 puzzles in every area. good video though man. you have good potential. even though you are mostly halo man.

The only form of lore is the "Scorn Artbook". It answers some of your questions but it is not free... maybe? I'm sure you can find a copy online.

That’s what I’ve heard. I didn’t like the game enough to actually purchase merch for it though. It’s ok to put story outside of your game but putting ALL of the story outside of your game is just stupid.

I’m very happy that I didn’t buy this game. It’s really too bad that it completely lacks any lore/story, the gunplay was crap, and the puzzles were unintuitive. This game had so much potential. One thing I find hilarious is how a lot of its hardcore fans tell you that you’re playing the game wrong and that it’s supposed to be an art experience. Despite the fact that the advertising made this out to be a survival horror game (in a way it makes me think of the people who defended Callisto Protocol and Outer Worlds by saying you can’t compare them to Dead Space or Fallout New Vegas despite the fact that the devs, the fans, and the companies doing the marketing literally built both games as the spiritual remakes/sequels to their respective franchises. That or they’d just say Bethesda Fallout and Dead Space 3 bad because they didn’t have anything else to stand on🤣😂). The art for this game is truly grotesque and horrific. I LOVE body horror and sadly there was so real substance to this. Too bad the devs didn’t entirely know what they’re doing. Hopefully if they do a sequel we’ll get what was promised.

Supposedly any and all of the lore is in an art book but I didn’t like the game enough to want to buy anything like that. I have zero issues with finding lore outside of games but if the ONLY lore is in an art book? That’s just stupid

Thanks for mentioning the book. Now I remember where I learned the lore about how it’s a ruined world, some of the locations were supposed to represent decadence gone horribly wrong, how some area in the game was a living factory, and other cool stuff like that. There were some videos talking about the lore and the people were saying that a lot of the stuff in the book was either scaled down or cut and that the devs are probably going to make a part 2. That’s really interesting how they have several years put into this thing and couldn’t find a way to fix the various problems or communicate the lore through the game.
I agree with you about how having out of game lore can definitely enhance a setting. But it should be understandable without having to read a book or go to a website.

It would’ve been waaaay better if they just added some kind of lore collectible. Something, anything to give the world more context. I’ll keep my eyes out for a part two. Maybe they can retroactively make this one good. I kinda doubt it though.

Yeah that would be great if the devs to go back and fix the various issues with the original and build on what worked in the sequel. But just like you said the chances are pretty low. Hopefully we’ll be proven wrong on this.
