Nick G thanks Nick, I love doing stuff like that. There is actually a better video that shows how this build ended, if you are interested. It is called "Every Step of My V8 S-10 Budget Build by Chud327" check it out and leave me another comment. There are also several burnouts with this truck on here. Anyways, thanks for watching, commenting, and especially for the 1,000,000 vote!
Very well done. Pretty much every important step is on here. Took me and a buddy two day's when we were younger to figure out the holes in the frame for the motor mounts. Wish we had this back then
I know what you mean, on my old Blazer project, my first time I took the mounts off of the frame to realize that I need them. I had to put them right back on. If you go to my channel there is a video based on this one, but the step have been shortened and it shows more of the end of the project, please check it out and leave me some feedback. "Every Step of my S-10 Budget Build by Chud327" Thanks for the comment!
+umarked return thanks, I have sold it, but I am ready to build another. Yes about fast forwarding. I am currently building a tiny house and I am filming every step. It too has some fast forward parts. Check it out if you get board until I can get another backyard build going on. Thanks for watching.
Good stuff sir! That's a true Craigslist budget build right there, not like all the others I've seen who end up dumping $5000+ by the end of everything.
a2xd94 Wow thanks for the comment. I tried to keep it as cheap as possible. If you want to see more of the same build ruclips.net/video/Du9jrTFSXKE/видео.html . It starts just like the first video, but with shorter clips and it cover the truck to the way it is now. It is more complete. Just wanted to give everyone an update. Thanks again.
Thanks, I really enjoy projects like that and that little dude always follows me around while I am working on stuff. One day he will be great at doing his own projects. Do you have any videos I need to check out?
breakerbroke23 I love finding deals on Craigslist. I may have to put my gas tanks of there. Just watch a guy name Joe. He owes me a front spoiler, a windshield, a lower fan shroud, two Camaro tires and wheels, and a posi rear end out of a Blazer that I sold to him. Everyone else has been good to me so far on CL. Did you see my other test drive video? Do you have any video of your truck?
I wish I had the shop to do this loved the video man I have a 91 s15 and I plan to put an ls7 or a 383 in it if I don't wreck it good job I'm impressed you got a sub from me
alex gleis wow and thanks for the sub! If you check out my channel, I have a video that shows how this build was finished. It is "Every Step of my S-10 V8 Budget Build" just in case you are curious. Feel free to leave a comment on that one too.
I'm doing a 350/700r4 swap on my '84 s10 Durango. It was originally carbureted 2.8/automatic. I already have the plates for the engine, headers, etc. Just curious, did you take the transmission crossmember out when you dropped the engine/trans in? Seems like it would be rather tight, but then again everything about this swap is.
Thanks for the comment, I have this same video with the clips shortened and the how the project ended. Just in case you want to see how it ended. ruclips.net/video/Du9jrTFSXKE/видео.html . If you do the LS1 S10 please make a video for us, that is my favorite engine...
+Paul Messer Some of the back plugs are a little of a pain, but they are not as bad as some cars from the factory. If you can put the engine in, you can change the plugs no problem. I appreciate the questions.
I noticed you used a manual tire changer at 2:42 in the video. Im looking at buying one and it looks like the one you use works pretty good so i was wondering if you could tell me who makes the one you use?
I bought mine years ago off of eBay. I can look for a name on it if you don't see them on there. It was $50 and is one of my favorite tools. Can't tell you how many tires I've changed, it has paid for itself. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks for watching.
I've never been a big fan of 4 doors, but they sure are convenient for getting in and out of. If that is what you have I would say go for it. My last Blazer was a 4 door, it was great in the mud. Check out chud327 this old blazer, I have 5 videos of that thing in the mud. You are talking Blazer, aren't you? And are going to make a video for us?
I have a 98 s10 which I'm putting a 350 in. What kind of headers did you use that will work for me. I know you can buy some off Jegs but I'm on a limited budget. Thanks for the help!
+Roofingandsons Mine were shorties by Heddman. I found them on Craigslist for $20. Keep a close eye on craigslist and you may just find some. It may take a little while, but this is the only cheap option I know of. Thanks for watching and let me know when you get you first burnout video posted.
I'm still working on replacing the 4.3 vortec with a carbureted 350 in my 98 s10. I'm working slowly but surely haha and I hope to have it running by the end of this week. The 350 bolted up perfectly to my transmission, but my question is will I have any problems with the transmission working fine or will I have trouble. I believe it's the 4l60. Thanks for the help!
+Roofingandsons I have never dealt with a 4l60, I guess if you leave it hooked up it might work. You will have to test it once it is running or ask someone that knows what they are talking about. I used to have a'98, I was one of my favorite S-10 that I have owned... I want to see a burnout when you are finished.
The 4l60 is computer controlled and as far as i know there is only two companies that make standalone computers. One is GM for 1200$ the other is TCI for arou d 650$. 700r4s are an exact swap its just a manually controlled version of the 4l60
Hey I'm in the process of building a 98 swap right now on a sonoma 2.2. I have a few questions if you can get back to me. Nice build by the way. Love it
+Tallon Early I know for a fact that it will fit, this was my 3rd S10 with a V8. Watch my video while you are doing the swap and if any questions pop up, feel free to ask. I love talking V8 S10s. Good Luck and thanks for watcing.
Good to see other V8 S10 fanatics here. I'm building a 383 Stroker for my lil guy right now. Gunna be running some World Products S2 heads, and a 700R4 trans with a Ford 9" rear end. Once I start getting anywhere with the truck itself I'll post videos.
Brett Lynch I've been wanting a 383 ever since I first heard of them 20 something years ago. i'll be waiting to see your videos, that sounds like on mean description. I almost bought my next s10 project last week, but someone beat me to it...
chud327 A good deal with a little box body isn't too hard to find! I picked my rolling body up for $200. Thinking of tearing down the front-end once I get the long block assembled. I'll post up a video once that happens.
I had two that I was looking at last week. Both had V8's that had been removed. One just needed an engine and the other needed an engine and transmission. They would have been quick and easy builds, but they went too fast. My last S-10 project was two bodies and some other parts for $200. I caught a guy leaving town that could take his junk with him... I need more deal like that. Then after taking the parts I needed, I sold the body I didn't go with for $200. I have had probably 15 of the S-10 trucks and Blazers, but only 3 had V8's.
I just bought an s10 blazer with 350 in it. Can you pull the HEI distributor out? I was wanting to change the cam and looks like it might be a pain getting the distributor out if at all.
Just checked out your vid to get a few ideas for the '83 S10 I'm getting from a friend of mine, it's the "Tahoe" trim level. Already has bucket seats, the 2.8 has a bad freeze plug, but that's coming out anyway. My budget won't be near as low as yours, hell I'll probably be in it 2 grand when I'm done. Cool build, true rat rod, I'm not sure where I'm going to source the 350 I want to stuff in the S10, but I might know where I can get a Vortec 5.3 cheap enough...
+Dead Reckon Vortec 5.3 is a great engine and $2000 is still a good deal. Keep me updated on your progress and let me know when you make a driving it video, I want to see it. Thanks for watching!
chud327 Will do, I should be getting the truck moved to my house by May, might have an engine in hand by July, definitely by August, so I hope to have it running by the winter so I can get it in a shop to have a driveshaft made. Dunno if that'll pan out, but I guess we'll see.
you didn't haft to change the transfer case? or a different rear axel? or move/modify the cross member? I could be over thinking the process considering this is my first engine swap. the engine is bored 30 over and I plan on putting it to the floor a time or 2 so I'd like for it to be sturdy. and I couldn't find the slide show of your blazer buddy.
+Paul Messer Unfortunately, your truck has the 2.8 so your transmission will have to be change and I don't know about the transfer case. I would assume you would get a different transmission that comes with the correct transfer case. As for mine, it came stock with a 4.3 and I did have to change the transmission or anything else behind it. If you engine makes enough power you may want to go ahead an upgrade to full size running gear. Then it should be sturdy enough for you to floor it. Here is my Blazer build - ruclips.net/video/8k5Jtf9woZQ/видео.html I also have videos of it in the mud - here is one of them - ruclips.net/video/I9mdFIz00Zs/видео.html&feature=iv&src_vid=8k5Jtf9woZQ&annotation_id=annotation_934534 . Thanks for watching and let me know what you think!
What I'm trying I ask is when I put the 350 in, will it effect my gauges. For example my gas, oil pressure, or temp gauges. Will they still work or what would I have to do to get them working? Sorry about the confusion
Idk if it said or not but what transmission did you use in this? I hate to get a driveshaft made if i could just get one already balanced and fit perfect
I used a turbo 350 and the driveshaft came from a '69 307 Chevelle with a powerglide. Good luck. Thanks for the comment and be sure to share the video.
just installed a 350 with a 5spd manual in my s10 & it looks like it was meant to be! So much more power! & she blows the tires off posi thru 3rd gear!
I love the sound of that, a V8 that looks factory. Maybe they should have been... Do you have a video of your beast on here? Thanks for watching and for the comment.
I didn't get a chance to do a real burnout on the highway, but as for the blocks in the yard, no hopping issues at all. I did have traction bars on before the lowering, but after the lowering, still no hope. I am going to check out that clip right now!
I had tractions bars before lowering, but even after taking them off, I don't remember any wheel hop at all. Your truck sound mean. That was yours that tore out the rear end?
Ok my s10 not lowered or rear suspension modified in any way so that's probably my issue. Oh I get a staggering 25mpg on the highway & 16 around town & she's driven hard! It is running somewhat lean though....
Ya I didn't even fully floor it & it died after a snappy shift from 2nd to third gear. My new rear end is a posi 7.625 inch out of a camaro I believe. 3.42s, my secret to mpgs! 350 doesn't even know it's moving anything!
No, not unless you want to be as high as it was stock. Look at my video and you can see that front dropped just a little. I like it better that way. I would recommend that you have the front end realigned after install, if you want it to be perfect. I have not realigned mine and it look, rides, and drives fine. I have a more complete video coming out in a few days, are you subbed yet? Thanks for the question and be sure share your build with us.
After reading the comment section ( laughing hysterically) I came to the conclusion that most of you "you tube mechanics" should actually stay away from cars. Yes, this is actually an extremely easy engine swap, I've done six now. Some of the questions are absolutely ridiculous. Will a C-10 rear end fit in my S-10 ? seriously ? Can you not tell by a quick glance, in the dark, with an eye infection that the C-10 is at least a foot wider ? My other favorite, Will a V8 bolt up to my original 4 cyl transmission ? Even if it did do you really think it would work ? Come on people, let's use some common sense. If your asking questions like " will my fuel gauge still read correctly ?" do yourself a favor and don't even attempt doing something like this. Or better yet, go ahead and do it, but make a video so we can all have a good laugh.
Yes, there are a bunch of silly questions. The ones that ask those questions would be better off buying one already built or pay some one to do the work. I would like to see the videos of their attempts to put that C10 rear in the S-10. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Need help as I am currently in the middle of my swap...is your 4x4? And what motor Did you have in yours originally? I had the 2.8v6 so what motor mounts did you use?
Mine is not a 4X4. I had a 2.5 liter and, going by memory, I think I had to change them out to 4.3 mounts. I am pretty sure they make mounts for a V8 swap that bolt right up to the 2.8's original mounts. Good luck and thanks for watching.
The fuel was easiest of the three. As for the wiring, I ran a wire to the distributor and one to the starter, then I cut about a 1000 others off. The gauges weren't to bad either, I just did one at a time. On a Blazer I did first, I had all the stock in dash gauges working, that was sweet. Good luck with your build and thanks for watching.
chud327 hey I'm doing a v8 s10 build rite now and I was wondering what rear end you used. And how you kept the same lug pattern with the same wheels. Awesome build.
Masta13100 I found a stock S-10 rear end that some one had added a locker to. It was on Craigslist for $250, but the guy took $150 for it. It had a better gear ratio for me and the locker was already installed. Those richmond lockers go for $400 - $500. The lug pattern was the same since the rear came from under an S-10. Thanks for the questions are you planning an S-10 rear swap or locker addition?
Thanks for the response chud327 I was going to pull the rear end from my totalled c10 and put a locker in it to use in the s10. But now I might just buy a spool for the s10 differential. I just don't want to have to change my cragar ss wheels haha
the cragar SS wheels have unilug oval hole that I really love. My first car, 1969 Camaro, hat cragar SS on it. However, I don't think they will work for a chevy truck pattern. I had a Ford 9" in my Camaro and the Cragars fit the Chevy and the Ford patterns. More company should build multi use products. You can sell the C-10 rear for some spool money.
yeah i probably will. everything waiting on a guy to appraise the truck and blah blah so i can start tearing it apart and begin the build. im getting parts together now. im looking into getting a motor swap kit from jegs for around 1,000. what did you use? kuz im on a budget aswell haha. thanx for the replys
For the motor swap part, I was given a Blazer that once had a V8. The engine and trans had been pulled but everything else was still there. I did buy a radiator, but I had purchased it years ago for a different S-10 V8 swap and did us it. I already had the stall. The headers were off of Craigslist for $20! The lockered rear end was from Craigslist for $150. Jegs will probably be a good resource, had you check summitracing.com and jagsthatrun.com for price comparisons? You have got to be on a budget or these things could get really expensive...
Braidyn Labonte for the Blazer 4X4 V8 conversion, I used summitracing.com and/or advanced adapters for the headers and oil pan. That was a fun build, but the video is not as detailed. There are some OK videos of that V8 Blazer playing in the mud. The sound of the V8 made it worth while to me. ruclips.net/video/I9mdFIz00Zs/видео.html , and ruclips.net/video/8k5Jtf9woZQ/видео.html .
Hey chud 327 names Alex I am interested in doing the same thing you did quick question is it the stock sub frame or did you have to swap it out with a camaro or other Chevy engine compartment
Everything is stock except for the engine, motor mounts, radiator, engine components, trans, and driveshaft. The frame, suspension, rear end, etc are all stock s-10 / s-15.
That is a great question. It depends on what engine / trans is in the truck. If your truck has a 4.3, it will bolt to a small block or big block form the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's... If you truck has a 2.2 or 2.5, you will need to find a different transmission. Are you getting ready to do a V8 swap? What size engine is in your truck? Thanks for watching and for the comment.
chud327 As of now I'm doing research about how much time/money (mostly concerned about the money) it will cost for me to do an S10 V8 swap. I'm planning to start this in the spring time around March. I'll probably have plenty more questions to come. Thanks for the videos by the way. Also a 305 or a 350 will fit right? Which would you recommend?
chud327 Since I will have a lot more questions to ask about this swap, can I have an email address to contact you with. If you're not comfortable with that it's fine, it will just be more convenient for me
i tried to drill my frame out to get to the mount bolts [at about 1:15 on the vedio] an completly burnt up my hole saw bits, i`m thinking like i am going to have th use the torch, on my s10 frame to get access to the nuts on the mounts.......
Hey chud, Super nice video. Looks like you've got this s10 v8 swap down. I have a question if you don't mind??? Going to swap a carb'd 350/350 into a 90 blazer that came with a 4.3 tbi. Do I have to keep the computer and harness?? Really don't want to deal with it. Thanks
+jabari82 I cut most of the unnecessary stuff out of my 91 Blazer V8 swap. If it has a carb you don't need the computer. You just run a hot wire from the key to your distributor and starter. I also ran a one wire alternator. I had my gauges still working too. I have videos of it running and a slide show of that build. I reply in a few minutes with that link that you can watch just for the fun of it.
+jabari82 On second thought, I may have used the stock alternator and some of the original wiring. On my most recent build is where I used the one wire alternator. good luck!
They make conversion mounts for the 4 and 6 cylinders, they are a little different from each other. You just order the ones you need. Thanks for watching and good luck.
You can do a V8 in there, but you are going to have to find a different transmission. The stock one the is hooked up to the 2.8 will not work. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching.
What are bolth the mounts from I plan on putting a 283 in my 4x4 s15 do I have to change the oil pan my truck is standard right now with a 2.8 in it and I want to keep it standard do I follow these steps
Braidyn Labonte you can't keep the same 2.8's transmission and bolt it to a small block, you can find a different transmission for a v8. The mounts are sold that replace the 2.8 mounts. As for the oil pan, I believe that the stock v8 oil pan will fit. I only had oil pan problems on a lifted 4x4 Blazer, you should be fine as long as it is not lifted. Mine had a 3" body lift. I as had to buy special header because of that body lift. That build is on youtube also, search "chud327 how to cram a small block in a s10 blazer" and it should pop up, if you care to see it.
I have a 91 blazer that I got cheep off cragslist and I'm gonna do somthing very similar to what you did here. But I'm wondering (maybe I missed it) did you have to do anything special with the pan? Some say you have to modify it or get a custom one. What do you say?
Anthony Whitehead if you have 2 wheel drive Blazer, a stock pan should slide right in. I had a 4X4 Blazer that had a body lift, I had to locate a custom pan for it, that video is also on my channel. I have another video just like this one, but it is more complete and shows how the project ended. It is called "every step of my v8 s10 budget build by chud327" in case you are interested. Feel free to ask all other question on you build. Thanks for the comment.
I have a 87 s10 4x4 with the 2.8l i want to put the 350, transmission and tranfercase in it out of my 99 suburban. How did you determine what shiftier would would?
I put the engine and trans in and then decided. However, I already knew what I wanted and I found one on Craigslist. I didn't have to worry about a transfer cases shifter. Is you 4x4 push button? Is your trans an automatic? If 2 yeses, it should be easy. Good luck, make a video, and ask if you have more questions.
On my first, I used the stock in tank pump with a fuel pressure regulator. That is the way to go. The second time, I used a stock V8 mechanical pump. Both way works, but I like the stock S-10 intank one. Good luck.
+Paul Messer What are you planning on using it for. If you only want it for the street, take the 4X4 out. if you want to do a little mud playing, leave it in. I would leave it in because I love to play in the mud. However, if I have to replace the front and rear end, I don't know if 4X4 would be worth it to me. It is your call, I want to see how it turns out either way. Thanks for watching.
Hey chud I'm doing this project very soon myself and was wondering did you have to use 1/2 ton truck springs to support the weight of the engine and if so what did you use ? Thank you for the vids
No Matt, all the springs are stock. I do plan to put 3" lowering blocks in the back just so that the truck sits level. The V8 lowered the front by about 2 inches. What are you working on?
I found an 83 s10 for 350 bucks clear title bad tranny body is really straight... I'm going to make it a daily driver and a toy on the weekends . Starting this project from nothing lol oh I subed hope to see more on your s10 thanks for sharing your build
$350 sounds pretty good, but I need to see a video when you get done. Thanks for subbing. I have a S-10 video that I am working on, it should be up in a few days. I putting in a gas tank, receiver hitch, and a locked rearend.
+Zachary Davis My best advice would be to be patient and keep a close eye on craigslist. That is where I got most of my great deals. However, I had no time limit and took about a year to complete the build. Thanks for watching and feel free to ask if any questions pop up.
my husband has thought about doing this to his blazer, what all did you have to delete to make the 350 fit in the truck, my husband has a 85 s10 blazer
If you want, you can keep every thing that it came with from the factory. I have had them with every thing but the A/C, but that is just because the A/C was already gone before I got the truck. But it can easily have the A/C too. All the gauges can work, the key switch, etc... Thanks for watching and good luck if he tries it.
I don't remember exactly, but I would guess that it was a 1" or 1.25". It only needs to be big enough to get the wrench through. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
+Justin Coronado Motor mounts are a no. You might get lucky and find some but they have to from an s-10 v8 swap that had a 4.3. You might find some on craigslist. You may have to buy new ones from summitracing.com, jegs.com, jagsthatrun.com, or from a speed shop. As for the radiator, I did use one from an 80 something firebird. The radiator cap just barely touched the hood, but it worked. They may be others that work better or you may want to get one made for the V8 swap.
I think they are design specifically for the S-10 V8 swap from Heddman. I found them on Craigslist for $20. I believe that summitracing and Jeg's carries them. Are you doing a swap?
To Lauren Siemens about the Honda fan - their is no reply button, so I guess you get no answer. I want to put it on a thermostat eventually, but to start with I might just put it on a switch. So far I've never had to use it, but I've never had it in stop and go traffic during August either. I think one electric fan will be sufficient with the manual fan, but I could always go back a add another. I can't remember the exact Honda year, but I would guess about a 1998ish... Do you have an S10 project on here?
no I do not have a project on here, but I do have a v8 s10 a blue truck, I wish it were a short box but its getting slim pickings out there for s10s in my neck of the woods. I learnt a lot from this video thanks for sharing...I have to say for be a cheap truck, it certainly looks good, and what a clean install.
I am glad that you learned a lot. Believe me, I learned a bunch by doing it. And this is my 2nd time putting a V8 in an s10. I like the electric fan as a back up, just in case you need it. My 4x4 Blazer V8 project had no room for a manual fan, it had dual electric and I was never satisfied with them. It is on here, have you seen it? And thanks for the comment.
chud327 I have a dual fan setup from a 02 concord on my 00 s10 4.3 180 thermo 185 switch and it works just fine. These stock concord fans fit right on when the mounting tabs are cut off. It's really over kill for the 4.3. I plan to have the same setup on my 94 s10 when I install my 350.
I have never done that swap before and I don't know. I would guess it would work, but I really have no experience. Thanks for watching, good luck, and let me know.
Wow Thanks. The best way to learn is to do it. I also learn from my mistakes. There is another video coming soon of this S-10 with more details about how I am finishing it; lockered rear end, lowed the rear, receiver hitch, different gas tank, bed removal, different tires and wheel, etc. Make sure you are subscribed. What are you learning on?
chud327 Thanks man. I am learning on a 91 S10 we got for 500 bucks yesterday lol. My wife and I are working on it as a project together. I am really excited! :)
A V8 would really help your trucks feelings. I had a 2000 with a 2.2 and I wish I still had it with a nice V8 sitting under the hood, but mine was too nice to mess up, it still had low miles. Make sure you make us a video of yours if you convert it. Thanks for the comment.
By the way there is a better video of this that is more complete, it shows how the truck ended. ruclips.net/video/Du9jrTFSXKE/видео.html . This video starts the same with shorter chips and is more complete... Check it out and let me know what you think, if you want... Thanks.
I have a video of that V8 into a 4X4 S10. Please watch it and feel free to ask me anything. I thought that I had already responded to your question, but now I do not see it. "How I crammed a V8 into my 4X4 S10" (by chud327)
+Justin Coronado If the stock engine is a 4.3, then the trans can stay. If it is good. If you keep your trans, and the shifter, drive shaft, speedometer cable will all work. If you don't have a 4.3 then all those will have to be changed. Your crossmember should work. You will need motor mounts, radiator, exhaust manifolds or headers, exhaust system, wiring, and the V8 itself. Oh yea, on the 4X4, you are probably going to need a custom oil pan. Does yours have a lift kit by chance? Here is a slide show of you a 4X4 V8 that I did a few years ago: ruclips.net/video/8k5Jtf9woZQ/видео.html I hope this helps and you may need to do a fund raiser to boost the $400 a little.
+chud327 yes I can shake it left and right and up and down but I just can't seem to break it free I think it's the bolt by the tailpiece of the transmission that bolts to the frame
not doing a S10 but will be putting a sbc 350 into a 89 Cheyenne 1500 here soon. orig. engine is the 4.3 v6. ever done anything along these lines? if so any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
It will be just like my S-10 swap except your truck will have more room to work. The stock transmission should work with the V8, too. You may get away with just new motor mount and exhaust manifolds or headers. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Alright dude I'm doing an 86 I'm having trouble figuring out the ignition I got it to start on. The switch but won't shut off lol wire colors would help me significantly thanks
victor Morrow I had a cut off switch that I had put in that went straight to my distributor. I didn't get into all of the wire colors, I was going to but I sold it before I got around to it. Good luck and hit me with any other questions that come up! Thanks for watching.
No problem, are you making a build video us? If not, make us a video of it in action. Be sure to let me know when you upload it. Sound like you are getting close to done. Where are you located?
I would come make a video myself, but that would be a long drive from Florida. You can do us a burnout video when you finish... Anyway, if any more questions pop up, I am just a comment away!
hey chud327 I have a 1984 Chevy s10 with a 2.8 v6 4x4 with 4 speed transmission, I have a 305 I'm building and I would like to put it in the s10. I was wondering what I would be the cheapest alternative as far as 4x4 goes?
+Paul Messer When I put the V8 in my 4X4 Blazer S-10, it was the same price as a two wheel drive with 2 exceptions. I had to buy a special oil pan and special headers. Other than that, everything else was the same. I too ran a 305, but mine had a 5 speed. That or you can go find you a cheap 4X4 just to play with, but a cheap 4X4 will probably end up costing a lot in repairs... I have a slide show on here of me putting the V8 in my S-10 Blazer. Let me know if you can't find it.
Juan De la cruz Is this fast enough? If it is a 4.3 you can use your original transmission. I am not sure what a q v6 is. Now it it is a 2.3 V6, you are going to need a different transmission. What V6 does your 92 have, I am guessing a 4.3. Now you answer fast please.
I don't think I did on this build, but I had a Blazer with a lift kit that required a little beating for the distributor to fit. Good luck and thanks for watching.
+I Have Vigors Frankensteined it sound just about right. Have you seen my dunebuggy build? I may be even more Frankensteined. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
2.2L is the displacement of the engine. The higher the number, the bigger the engine. 2.2L aren't very popular to upgrade, but I am sure there are things out there. I have never souped one up, but I am sure if you google it, there has got to be things people do. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I guess it might be possible, but I am not sure. Drilling seemed like the easiest way to me. I have also seen people cut holes with a torch... If you try it with no holes, let me know how it goes. thanks for watching.
Jeff Houser It was not my first choice, but I had an old turbo350 laying around in the garage. I like a 350, it was free, and I is now out of my way. It was a win, win, win... Thanks for asking, I love answering comments, and thanks for watching.
You can actually move the motor forward a few inches use a long tail 350 or 700r4 trans both same length. Wont have to beat firewall in for hei distributor and use same drive shaft. Thats how i did my 91 s10 blazer but i run dual electric fans in front of radiator plus i run all my serpentine setup from the 4.3 it all bolts right to a sbc motor or bbc motor and also still run ac. 700r4 is good but i broke 4 of them now running a fullbbuilt 350 turbo trans
I did not move mine forward, I wanted to use a mechanical fan with an electric as a backup. I would think you would just find a shorter driveshaft, but there is more than one way to skin a cat. (catfish) I could appreciate having more room for the HEI. When I did my Blazer V8, just like you said, all the serpentine system bolts right up. ruclips.net/video/8k5Jtf9woZQ/видео.html I also have a more up to date video shoestring build - ruclips.net/video/Du9jrTFSXKE/видео.html and a burnout / locker test video ruclips.net/video/DNljKmkBSns/видео.html . Check these out and leave me some comments. Do you have any videos of you truck?
Not of that my blazer. I need to post some. I will after i do my new setup running nitrous on a budget build and a complete stock motor. Before i swap it to a big block. You can buy junk yard v8 where im at complete for $250. So im gonna push a 300 shot to the sbc and see if it holds or blows..lol.
+drew kelley Summitracing.com, jagsthatrun.com, or Jegs are three resources that carry the motor mount that you need. I would look up some prices for you, but I would have to know the year and the engine that came in you truck. Hopefully yours came with a 4.3, that will be your easiest swap. Let me know how it goes.
Very cool, nice to see someone getting it done without dropping huge amounts of cash. My guess is you will be using that tire machine for the rear tires quite a lot. Ha Ha! What state do you live in? That parts truck looked rust free! Only 1 negative I see, please get Ethan some safety glasses, I never used them either until I spent a few hours and a few hundred bucks at the emergency room getting a piece of metal removed from my eye. Ouch!
Mr. Generic69, you do very thorough comments. Please feel free to comment on more of my videos. I live in Northeast Florida, how about you? That tire machine was $51 dollars on Ebay, but it is priceless. And yes I have plans on some burnouts. I have 8 kids so my projects have to be cheap. Whoops on the safety glass, I used to be the safety guy. He usually wears eyeglass, so I don't think about his eyes. However, his glasses were bent at the time of the video. Sorry about that...
@@bradleydunford725 Just seeing your question, it came with a 2.5. I got V8 mounts from a friend, don't know where they came from. Headers were off of facebook marketplace or craigslist. Oil pan was stock and the radiator came out of a 90"s firebird. I hope this helps.
The good news is, it would bolt to your stock transmission and all other running gear parts would work. I had a 93 blazer with a 4.3 and a 5 speed. Everything was stock except for the engine. I have videos of it on here. Mine was a 4X4 too. You just need an engine, headers, a special oil pan, radiator, and a few other parts. If you original engine is getting tired, I would recommend the swap. Thanks for watching and feel free to ask more if needed.
You are my pick for the $1,000,000 America's Got Talent winner; Install a V8 with transmission by yourself?! Holy cow man, that made my night.
Congrats on your build! Thanks for the video!
Another one I found very very cool video you are amazing on how you do these things!! Thanks for Sharing
Thanks, I can wait to do another little truck like that! thanks for all of your commenting!
Hey loved the video. I also liked the sped up version. More videos should be like this! 408.00 total? Love it! Keep up the backyard swaps!
+umarked return thanks, I have sold it, but I am ready to build another. Yes about fast forwarding. I am currently building a tiny house and I am filming every step. It too has some fast forward parts. Check it out if you get board until I can get another backyard build going on. Thanks for watching.
Great build! Makes me want to build one in later years even more as an hotrod
Wow, thanks. This is the 3rd one one I've owned and 2nd one I have built, they are a blast. Don't wait too long and be sure to show us your build.
True rodding at it;s finest. Cheers!
The little dude knew what he was doing with that impact.
Thanks, I really enjoy projects like that and that little dude always follows me around while I am working on stuff. One day he will be great at doing his own projects. Do you have any videos I need to check out?
Been wanting to build one of these for a LONG time. About to have another 350 on my hands as well.
I am constantly searching for my next deal on an S-10 body and a V8. I would love to get started on my next. Thanks for watching.
Very nice.. You got some killer CL deals.
breakerbroke23 I love finding deals on Craigslist.
Thanks Garrett!
Feel free to leave a comment on that one too.
yes I have a question about the electric fans...did you rig it up to run all the time or are they on a temp. sensor
+chud327 I have an 89 s10 4x4. Did you have to custom make brackets to put the civic fan in?
Nice swap! been wanting to do this for years. im going to do a carbourated ls1 though. saving money for it
Thanks for the comment, I have this same video with the clips shortened and the how the project ended. Just in case you want to see how it ended. ruclips.net/video/Du9jrTFSXKE/видео.html . If you do the LS1 S10 please make a video for us, that is my favorite engine...
and I appreciate the answers. there's probably going to be more questions to come lol.
+Paul Messer Feel free to ask, that is what I am here for!
did you kept same rear end diff.. what adjustment did you do to it...
and I appreciate you replying. I'd also like to ask, what is basic keep up like? like as far as reaching sparkplugs ?
Thanks for watching.
got that same tire changer, ha ha you have done a good job
Thanks and I love that tire changer.
Sitting here looking at vids of v8 swaps. Your thoughts on doing this to a 2001 s10 four door with 4wd? Great vid!!!
Thanks very much friend
+Roofingandsons No problem.
Hey any tips on getting to transmission lines?
Hey I'm in the process of building a 98 swap right now on a sonoma 2.2. I have a few questions if you can get back to me. Nice build by the way. Love it
+Aj Thompson ok, go ahead with your questions. BTW, Thanks for watching.
Love the vid i just bought a 86 s10 and im going to try putting a 350 in it. do u think it will fit? its 2wd long bed
I have had probably 15 of the S-10 trucks and Blazers, but only 3 had V8's.
and yes, please make us a video of yours. Thanks for the conversation and for watching.
I just bought an s10 blazer with 350 in it. Can you pull the HEI distributor out? I was wanting to change the cam and looks like it might be a pain getting the distributor out if at all.
I think I have changed distributors before. Give it a shot, it should be doable. Thanks for watching and good luck.
What kind of header are you using?
Ok, be sure to update me when it is done!
you didn't haft to change the transfer case? or a different rear axel? or move/modify the cross member?
+Paul Messer I just sent a reply, if you didn't get it, it may have gone to your spam file. Thanks for the comments and good luck with your build.
What I'm trying I ask is when I put the 350 in, will it effect my gauges. For example my gas, oil pressure, or temp gauges. Will they still work or what would I have to do to get them working? Sorry about the confusion
+Roofingandsons It is cool, see answer on the other video. Thanks for watching!
Wow sounds great!!!!
Hey chud327, If i was to put a 350 into my 84 s10 would i have to change the front suspension to support the extra weight?
Thanks for watching and for the comment.
ikr
I do know and you are right, thanks for the reply.
hey man, you really do s10 v8 swaps? I'm about to build my soon, may I ask you couple questions since you really know about it?
I agree. C-10 is a half-ton truck and an S-10 is a quarter-ton truck so parts don't swap over.
Nice video but what all did you have to do with the motor mounts and mounting the transmission?
+matttttttttt6 buy the v8 conversion mounts and use the stock crossmember for the trans. Thanks for watching.
I wanted to know how hard was it to get hook up the fuel line and all the gages and wires? I'm doing my build In the summer for my first truck
Alright thanks my truck already has 3" of body and I kinda guessed the 2.8 trans wouldent work haha I'll get on watching that video
Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm new to this stuff but did you keep the original s10 transmission in or get another?
If you're not comfortable with that it's fine, it will just be more convenient for me
i tried to drill my frame out to get to the mount bolts [at about 1:15 on the vedio] an completly burnt up my hole saw bits, i`m thinking like i am going to have th use the torch, on my s10 frame to get access to the nuts on the mounts.......
major jarvis mine worked just fine, I put a little oil on it. Once they are cut, you'll love the easy access. Thanks for watching.
Hey chud,
Super nice video.
+jabari82 ruclips.net/video/8k5Jtf9woZQ/видео.html - let me know what you think.
+jabari82 On second thought, I may have used the stock alternator and some of the original wiring. On my most recent build is where I used the one wire alternator. good luck!
+chud327 Hey man, thanks for the quick reply. I'll push forward with that info!!!
+jabari82 No problem, that's what I do... Feel free to ask if any questions pop up!
Are the conversion mounts the same for the 4 cylender and the v6. Mine has the 4 cylender. And everything I see is for the v6s
They make conversion mounts for the 4 and 6 cylinders, they are a little different from each other. You just order the ones you need. Thanks for watching and good luck.
I have a 1991 gmc sonoma 2.8l v6 and want to no if a v8 would fit with the original transmission. and what type of engine would fit in there?
You can do a V8 in there, but you are going to have to find a different transmission. The stock one the is hooked up to the 2.8 will not work. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for watching.
Sorry I meant the gas hand on my dash which displays how much gas is in the tank from Empty to Full
What did you do for a fuel pump did use a mechanical did remove the in tank pump or did leave it in there
On my first, I used the stock in tank pump with a fuel pressure regulator. That is the way to go. The second time, I used a stock V8 mechanical pump. Both way works, but I like the stock S-10 intank one. Good luck.
Sweet video u got a subscriber here
should I keep the 4x4 or rip it out? and if I do take it out would I haft to replace front end? as well as the rear end?
I am looking to do a similar project but I do not have any part vehicles. Any tips/tricks?
Thanks for watching and good luck if he tries it.
what size hole saw did you use for the bolt access holes on the frame?
I don't remember exactly, but I would guess that it was a 1" or 1.25". It only needs to be big enough to get the wrench through. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
Freakishly beutiful!
Thanks for the comment and be sure to check out more of my junk...
I may have missed it but is this replacing a 4.3 V6 or an L4?
On this build, I was replacing a 2.5 4 cylinder. I did a 4.3 replacement before this one, it was so much easier. Thanks for watching.
@chud327 can i just grab motor mounts off a like k5 blazer? and radiator off a junkyard car?
+Justin Coronado Motor mounts are a no. You might get lucky and find some but they have to from an s-10 v8 swap that had a 4.3. You might find some on craigslist. You may have to buy new ones from summitracing.com, jegs.com, jagsthatrun.com, or from a speed shop. As for the radiator, I did use one from an 80 something firebird. The radiator cap just barely touched the hood, but it worked. They may be others that work better or you may want to get one made for the V8 swap.
What year of headers did you use camaro Chevelle etc......
I had electric fans on mine and I hated them, so I took them off and put an engine driven fan on, made a big difference
That is good to know for the next time I do a V8 swap. Are you going to build us a video of your 94 s10 350 build?
I want to use a 4 door blazer chassis and put a 5.3 vortex motor and trans mission from a 2000 suburban on it .do I have to change the oil pan.
I have never done that swap before and I don't know. I would guess it would work, but I really have no experience. Thanks for watching, good luck, and let me know.
Thanks for the reply I'm thinking of putting a 65 corvair body on the chassis still looking at many options like the videos
That sound cool, you sound like my kind of person. Thanks for the reply.
DAMN that is how its done. I wish I had that kind of mechanical skill. I am learning though.
I am excited for you, are you gonna build a video for us to watch? What are you planning to put in it?
Great truck. I want to try a conversion on my 99 model. The old 2.2 has 263,000 miles on her and is getting a little sluggish.
Thanks.
Have u ever done a v8 swap in a 4x4 s10 ???? If so plz let me know I have a few questions ! Thanks
I have a video of that V8 into a 4X4 S10. Please watch it and feel free to ask me anything. I thought that I had already responded to your question, but now I do not see it. "How I crammed a V8 into my 4X4 S10" (by chud327)
@chud327 im gonna start one on a 89 4×4 s10 blazer what can stay and what can go? cause im on a 400 dollar budget
Here is a slide show of you a 4X4 V8 that I did a few years ago: ruclips.net/video/8k5Jtf9woZQ/видео.html
I hope this helps and you may need to do a fund raiser to boost the $400 a little.
Hey so I got the driveshaft, radiator, all connected lines out and motor mounts out but it's not coming out what could be holding it in
I am not sure, will it wiggle at all? If you can shake it around, you should be able to see what is holding it.
+chud327 yes I can shake it left and right and up and down but I just can't seem to break it free I think it's the bolt by the tailpiece of the transmission that bolts to the frame
That could be it, let me know.
not doing a S10 but will be putting a sbc 350 into a 89 Cheyenne 1500 here soon. orig. engine is the 4.3 v6. ever done anything along these lines? if so any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
It will be just like my S-10 swap except your truck will have more room to work. The stock transmission should work with the V8, too. You may get away with just new motor mount and exhaust manifolds or headers. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Awesome! Thanks! Gives me some hope lol.
Sweet, let me know how it turn out! PS, I need a 350 for my van project...
absolutely. planning on doing progress videos. I'll def. post links.
Thanks, looking forward to it.
That works excellent too never freaking thought of that lol thanks bud
No problem, are you making a build video us? If not, make us a video of it in action. Be sure to let me know when you upload it. Sound like you are getting close to done. Where are you located?
chud327 I doubt I'll make a video lol but I live in Pittsburgh pa area I appreciate the advice though bud thanks a million
I would come make a video myself, but that would be a long drive from Florida. You can do us a burnout video when you finish... Anyway, if any more questions pop up, I am just a comment away!
luved it 2
hey chud327 I have a 1984 Chevy s10 with a 2.8 v6 4x4 with 4 speed transmission, I have a 305 I'm building and I would like to put it in the s10.
Let me know if you can't find it.
ey chud nice slides i was wondering can i swap my 67 327 on a 91 s15 4x4 n wat kind of headers or other parts will be different than a usual v8 swap?
Chad is there anything you can't work on? good job
Yes, but I don't make video of stuff that I am not good at... :) thanks for the watches and the comments.
part b of my question is with the electric fan from a Honda, is one fan sufficient or do you need to run 2, also what year and model of Honda?
What engine lift did you use, and what was the yellow steel bar hooked to it?
It said "Goodyear" on the side. The yellow bar was an engine leveler. Thanks for watching.
chud327 I guess my eyes are failing me to not notice the Good Year name on the side. Thanks for the info.
I have a blazer 92 4x4 with q v6
Can I put the v8 and use the same transmission ?
Awnser fast please
Juan De la cruz Is this fast enough? If it is a 4.3 you can use your original transmission. I am not sure what a q v6 is. Now it it is a 2.3 V6, you are going to need a different transmission. What V6 does your 92 have, I am guessing a 4.3. Now you answer fast please.
Did you have to trim or beat the lip on the firewall.
I don't think I did on this build, but I had a Blazer with a lift kit that required a little beating for the distributor to fit. Good luck and thanks for watching.
@@chud327 ok thanks appreciate it
Frankensteined the shit outta that truck. It sounds nice
+I Have Vigors Frankensteined it sound just about right. Have you seen my dunebuggy build? I may be even more Frankensteined. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
Hey Chud i have a 2.2l s10, im fairly new to cars what does 2.2l mean and what can i do to upgrade it like what part names?
2.2L is the displacement of the engine. The higher the number, the bigger the engine. 2.2L aren't very popular to upgrade, but I am sure there are things out there. I have never souped one up, but I am sure if you google it, there has got to be things people do. Good luck and thanks for watching.
chud327 you think a 2.2l can do a burnout? And is it possible to do a engine swap and not be a 2.2l ?
@@Junior-pc9ni If you are on a slick surface. You can swap engines, but you will probably have to swap transmissions too. Good luck.
This may seem like a stupid question but will this work for a 2000 blazer lt?
yes, it will. There will be some slight differences, but it is the same concept. Good luck and let me know when you get it done. thanks for watching.
chud327 thanks for the help and I sure will!
Is there any way around drilling the access holes in the frame?
I guess it might be possible, but I am not sure. Drilling seemed like the easiest way to me. I have also seen people cut holes with a torch... If you try it with no holes, let me know how it goes. thanks for watching.
chud327 10-4 I’m trying to do mine to make it as “factory” as possible lol. If I do decide to drill holes, what size saw did you use?
Chud327 what transmission did you use if you dont mind me asking?
Jeff Houser It was not my first choice, but I had an old turbo350 laying around in the garage. I like a 350, it was free, and I is now out of my way. It was a win, win, win... Thanks for asking, I love answering comments, and thanks for watching.
chud327 It not I and are you build one too?
I hear what your saying, I've only melted one wire so far.
Now that sounds like a good video!
Ill make sure to record it all. Car craft magazine has done it but not a real world test.
More power to ya! Literally. Are you near by so that I can also film it?
What transmission did you use?
Turbo 350, the one I am building now has a 700r4... and thanks for watching.
still got that little blazer that’s a “parts truck”?
No but I’ll bet I’ll wish I did when get another... thanks for watching
so do the v6 motor mounts work for the v8?
+drew kelley there are v8 adaptors that make the v6's work. Let me know if you have more questions.
man I'm having trouble finding mounts can you guide me in a certain direction?
+drew kelley Summitracing.com, jagsthatrun.com, or Jegs are three resources that carry the motor mount that you need. I would look up some prices for you, but I would have to know the year and the engine that came in you truck. Hopefully yours came with a 4.3, that will be your easiest swap. Let me know how it goes.
After I replace my 4.3 with a 350 how will I get my gas hand working?
+Roofingandsons I am not sure what a gas hand is, but I bet we can make it work...
Had to do it, didn't ya ?🤔
What year was the Blazer seats you use??
I think it was an 88, but any square body should work. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Nevermind, I see Buffalo...
Near Buffalo NY, It is a balmy 10 degrees outside this morning.
genericsixtynine I am so jealous, we're only supposed to be 70 today...
What mods did you have to do to firewall. What trans did you run
I did nothing to the firewall and it was a turbo 350. Thanks for watching.
@@chud327 ok thanks what motor was in it orginally. What motor mounts headers oil pan and radiator did you run
@@bradleydunford725 Just seeing your question, it came with a 2.5. I got V8 mounts from a friend, don't know where they came from. Headers were off of facebook marketplace or craigslist. Oil pan was stock and the radiator came out of a 90"s firebird. I hope this helps.
@@chud327 ok thanks man appreciate it
I have a 94 GMC Sonoma, 4.3L, 5M, 4x4. How difficult would a 350 swap be in that truck?
The good news is, it would bolt to your stock transmission and all other running gear parts would work. I had a 93 blazer with a 4.3 and a 5 speed. Everything was stock except for the engine. I have videos of it on here. Mine was a 4X4 too. You just need an engine, headers, a special oil pan, radiator, and a few other parts. If you original engine is getting tired, I would recommend the swap. Thanks for watching and feel free to ask more if needed.
chud327 thanks man! I'm looking into it. May do it closer to summer
Sweet, let me know when you start the build...
What rear end did you use with the v8 was it a 10 bolt?
Hunter Aidt it was a 10 bolt from an S10 that someone had put a Richmond locker in. Do you have a V8 s10?
No I was wanting to do a swap but wasant sure my 10 bolt would hold
I just have a 90 with a 2.5
So you've got V8 plans?
luv the vid
Thanks swamp cruiser, I have attached my latest S-10 update, hope you "like" it. S-10 V8 Update Test Drive.
Nice work I got Chevrolet blazer I want to put v8 in
I just picked up an S-10 myself last Saturday. Video coming soon and I might be doing another V8! Thanks for watching.
