The Nolan movies are more defined by their villains than Batman himself. The screenplay for The Dark Knight is fantastic, it's fair to say it wouldn't have been the same without Heath Ledger. The biggest upside the Reeves film, and presumably trilogy, has is the interpretation of Gotham itself. Reeves' Gotham City feels a real place scaled up. It's a perfect balance of the outright realism that Nolan has, and the over-the-top gothic hellhole that was Tim Burton's gotham
