I'm glad you got something
Spookie season w, good meal time vid ong
love some spooky frfr
@@jakestopics ong facts, ocult movies and budget horror are allwasy a fun evening with tea or something
So definitely wrong about o, brother where art thou. It's a depression era version of the oddyssey. A lot going on underneath. Hail, Ceasars has so much going on. It really went over your head
I guess you got more out of those movies than I did. Idk 🤷♂️
what’s the music at the beginning of the video ?
It's by Pilotredsun I forget the name of the song tho
Barely a minute in and I agree with Intolerable Cruelty 100% and then came The Ladykillers. Correct choices. Worst Coen Brothers movies by far! Not quite feeling the rest of the order, as I prefer Hudsucker& O Brother over films like Hail Caesar & TBOBS, but you definitely got the worst two right
Self indulgence of an epic scale.
For real. Such a strange way to spend money.
I think the fact that the gimmick of Benjamin Button is more remembered than what it's actually about speaks volumes.
True lol
I feel like you should have mentioned that Fincher himself did not like the end result of Alien 3 and was working on a film already weeks into pre-production, battling with the producers and then leaving early in post. I'm not saying he doesn't bear responsibility for a lot of the end result. I don't think of it as fully a Fincher film, though.
Good job
Thanks :)
Nice that your Top 5 is my exact Top 5 as well. 1) Fight Club: Pulls off as a Stern warning to an audience and a Satire that dosen't take itself seriously at the same time. A movie that was ultra daring and pulls out all the stops and it all works. Pitt's best performance of his career and Norton hits it out the Ball park as always. A movie so divisive Roger Ebert slammed the film for years despite admitting he didn't really get the film. But it works for me. Fincher's masterpiece 2) Social Network. I was in College when this Movie came out. I laughed and didn't think it would be serious at all. Then Fincher/Sorkin got involved and I got intrigued. Saw it opening weekend and thought it was pretty good. Then got the DVD and got better w/ every watch. Watched it again. Man.....this film is brilliant. Great screenplay, cinematography and perfect performances all around. A pure tale of how money and power can ruin friendships. And how a revolutionary website connected people worldwide.....yet leaves them isolated at the same time. Great Movie that would be #1 But Fight Club is Superior 3) se7en: 1st Fincher film I ever seen. Don't need to talk about cinematography, screenplay, performances and possibly the best ending to any of Fincher's films on this list. The 1 thing that makes it 3rd, and Hot Take, I think Brad Pitt was miscast in this film. I think he's a fine actor and enjoy most of his work. I did not like him here. His performance alone kinda pulls the film down at times. But the ending would not have happened w/o him so ill live with it. Plus yea, Kevin Spacey is playing himself 4) Zodiac: The most underrated film in Fincher's catalog. I call this the "Jackie Brown" in his filmography. A movie that did decent Box office wise but was largely forgotten afterwards. But the 3 leads in Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey and Ruffalo all stand out. Has that gritty Fincher ascetic and feel that you get with many of his films. Plus a very daring ending to where there is no conclusion at the end. Plus the violence here is more subdued, but still effective. 1 death scene only lasts 10 seconds but is very haunting. Possibly the best death scene he's ever filmed. Only complaint is it kinda drags in parts and you need yo invest your time in watching. But patience will definitely be worth it 5) Gone Girl: This movie shows how twisted my sense of humor can be. This is Arguably the Darkest comedy that's come out in 20 years. Fincher has been called "misogynistic" for years, I personally think he's pulling a joke on the audience: Make the most soulless, despicable character he's ever put on screen a suburban upper class white women, and watch if feminists actually will defend her actions on screen. This film is a test on forgiveness and choosing sides. You have 2 awful people who are together and a couple and a "scandel" happens. Who's side are you taking, and who's sins are you willing to forgive. I haven't seen this movie in a whole, but everytime I do I get a kick out of it. I think it's a pure satire of upper class society and how fake it truly is and filled with unredeemable people. And I love it. Also like the fact Fincher trolled his audience w/ this movie. The rest of his films: The Game: Strong Beginning and Middle. Weak at the end. Almost a cop out ebding when the whole film was dark. But good film overall The Killer: Seen it once. Honestly underrated. Dosent get the love it should Panic Room: Generic home invasion movie. Fincher was a director for hire. Not bad but not memorable Girl w/ The Dragon Tattoo: Has everything that should work with Fincher and its......ok. Nothing exceptional here. Plus was a failed attempt at a Franchise because it was a Mediocre Box office. Need to see it again Alien 3: Enjoyable from what I remember. Vastly inferior to the 1st 2 Aliens but better then the Aliens films that followed it. Pure Director for hire and the only film Fincher flats out disown Benjamin Button: A Forrest Gump rip-off that dosent work. Only film of his I flat out don't like at all
another jake video! W
Hell yeah. I'm still alive!
Spoiler alert: within the first 47 seconds of this video, “fuck off” is mentioned. Just thought you should know
Wait really? 🤯
It just tastes like vanilla coke
Yeah it sort of is just vanilla coke with extra steps lol
It’s zero sugar too
It certainly does not help the flavor by being zero sugar
Thank you for doing what I didn't want to and will never need to do
It's a new cinematic style we mistakenly failed to anticipate in light of a historically aged population: *geriatric maximalism.* The last ditch effort to get every last little thing jammed in there before inevitable death.
Lmao I love that term 🤣
Well…some people have too much money.
Yeah Lmao
What the hell is it even about
When people ask me if this was a bad movie, I respond, "Yes. Go see it." The film is one of the most beautiful messes I've ever seen. There are some bad movies you should avoid because, well, they're _bad!_ There are other bad movies you should see because they're fun. Think: so-bad-it's-good. Then, there's that special category of bad film. The I-can't-believe-you-had-the-guts-to-try-this bad movies. Movies that fail, but just for the sheer ambition behind them, they're worth seeing anyways. _Megalopolis_ is in this latter category. It's like watching a figure skater attempt a quintuple axle, and then faceplant on the ice. Sure they fell, but they still goddamn went for it! It's convoluted. It's over-complicated. It spawns dozens of plot threads, many of which go nowhere. Its characters simply... _do..._ things... 'cause reasons. Grand setpieces illuminate the screen that are never mentioned again, and have little bearing on the plot, if there is really one. And every frame on screen is absolutely, utterly gorgeous! If there was ever such a thing as a hot mess of a movie, this is it!
"I thought I was loosing my mind" OK chill out, RUclips reviews man lol.
Yeah its a little hyperbolic I'll admit lmao
make a video on Winter winds
No.
@@jakestopics you have no choice nerd
This movie genuinely makes no sense… and not in a mindfuck sort of way, just an incoherent one! It has this weird sense of being a 90s adaptation of a Shakespeare play that doesn’t actually exist
100% agree
Cosmopolis with Robert Pattinson is 5 times better
I still need to see that one. I haven't really watched alot of Cronenberg's later stuff so I'll have to check it out.
absolutly banger thumbnail tho
True lol

Holy shig, did not expect this to open with The Next Movement Hot Damn
Hell yeah man I love that song
You think French Dispatch is better than Grand Budapest are u insane lol
Yeah lmao I don't know what to tell you 🤣
Love the Coen. Other than David Fincher (and maybe Scorsese) they are the best directors around! Love the show Fargo which does a great job making allusions to their work! I LOVE LADY KILLERS! This movie needs more love! WAFFLE HUT! (also Oh Brother Where Art Thou is one of the greatest films ever made)

No. You are poor and European and you can't eat this garbage.

Great video man, no clue how it only has 400 views
Thanks man, glad you liked the video!
I think you should do more takes with your recordings. It really hurts the flow of the video when you stumble over your words imo, but i really appreciated your commentary. You shed some more light onto the themes than I gave thought to. Keep it up!
Sorry about that, it's a bad habit of mine to use the first or second take but I'm glad you at least got something out of the video. I'll try to do better in the future.
Saw this a few weeks ago. It’s really wild how much I keep mentally revisiting it
I know it's honestly such a fascinating movie to watch.
video seems so interesting but the "backround" music is way too loud. sm that i cant concentrate on your voice only. hope this helps for future videos, looking forward to them!
Yeah, sorry about that... I realized that was the case only after uploading it. I'll keep it in mind for future videos
@@jakestopics its totally fine! so happy to see u taking my comment into consideration, good luck on your soon-to-be success.
Glad someone said this politely and that @jakestopics recognized it too! Wholesome internet interactions are so rare
@@broregard1924 I concur. I say this politely as well and think he has a good voice but the music was a tiny bit loud. I definitely like some background music so it's really not that noticeable for me though.
I was gonna mention Crimewave, but then I remembered... Yea. Never mind.
Yeah, I always thought that movie was more of Sam Raimi than the Coen Brothers.
This is my last comment because I find this list to be infuriating. For what it's worth raising Arizona is my favorite comedy of all time. I don't know why you watch coen Brothers comedies if you don't get them. It seems as if they're not for you so I'm surprised you're even making this list.
First person in history to rate Hail Caesar above Oh Brother Where Art Thou.😅
I agree, Not a fan of either film, but Hail Cesar is flat out unwatchable
Oh brother where art thou is the third worst film? It's top 10 for sure and probably closer to top five. This phone had a huge cultural impact and you're calling it just another 2000s comedy? What 2000s comedy looked like this and tried to cover so many different themes from the bizarre to the banal. This is a very good movie. It's not as good a comedy is Raising Arizona but it's still a great comedy. Also you're referring to the music as ragtime when it's clearly bluegrass. The soundtrack was on top of the bluegrass charts for a very long time.
To be honest, I messed up with calling it Ragtime instead of Bluegrass, so I do apologize for getting that wrong. As for O Brother Where Art Thou?, the movie didn't do much of anything for me. I'm kind of picky when it comes to comedy, and this wasn't funny to me. I know it's definitely a hot take to put it that low on the list. I'll give you that.
A lot of people are really in love with Hudsucker Proxy. I am not but I 100% disagree with your comment that it is a typical 90s comedy. It is clearly a Coen Brothers movie and is filmed and set up very different way than most films from the 90s. I also think that Tim Robbins is quite a good actor and is not the reason that this movie doesn't work. It just misses and I don't know why exactly but it just misses.
Yeah, I see your point. I think Tim Robbins is a good actor, too. I just felt like something in that movie is lacking, and in my opinion, one of the things that's lacking is a strong lead comedic performance.
Johnnie To have been making great films for years
Yeah, seriously. His catalog of movies is impressive.
Exiled was a masterpiece. An unexpected sequel (by theme) to 'The Mission'.
Agreed. Those two are some of his best movies.
If any of you have Netflix and a good VPN, I'd recommend you to switch over to Hong Kong servers and check out "Boundless", a full length feature documentary on the films of Johnnie To. Its a good look of how Johnnie To behaves on set and he is one scary man who would cuss out at his actors.
I remember several years ago when Johnnie To came to Toronto for the Toronto International Film Festival, I asked Johnnie what are his plans for Election 3. He said he's been planning it all along and that current events will have to inspire him to continue to write the threequel. People got hyped after I asked the question. So much that it even hit the news. Recently, Johnnie To appeared on Vincent Kok's talk show on Viu TV and was asked the same question. To wasn't very direct but pretty much hinted with current state of affairs, its never going to happen. Quite a shame. Oh, and I bumped into Johnnie To at a chinese restaurant just a day after the TIFF premiere of "Life without Principle" back in 2011. I think he heard me laughing about how I asked him a silly question about Lam Suet. We were the only tables eating at the restaurant so there's no way he didn't hear me. 🤣🤣🤣
Damn, honestly, an Election 3 would have been an interesting project. Sad to see it won't happen.
@@jakestopics he hasn't made a movie for years. Produced? Sure but not in the director's chair. Word is, he is making a movie with Anson Lo (from boyband Mirror)
Finally someone is recognise his genius! "Exiled" is hands down one of the best action films ever made. It's like poetry, philosophy and crazy gun fights all working in concert.
Couldn't agree more. Exiled is one of my favs from him.
Someone saw my live on IG 😉
wow, a video about Johnnie To, i never expected this. Most people knows the HK movie scene with directors like Wong Kar Wai, John Woo, Ang Lee, Stephen Chow, Tsui Hark, Peter Chan and sometimes Wong Jing. But very seldom people will talk about Johnnie To, especially people outside of HK. Because his films are just so quintessentially HK styled that not many people outside of HK will really watch it. There aren't much publicity too for Johnnie To out side of HK. I am honestly quite surprised to see a video analysis of Johnnie To and I really appreciate this, cause I've always enjoyed his films, especially when I was young. Even though a lot of times, I didn't know he was the director until like years later. The Heroic Trio is my favorite film of his, even if it's considered more Fantasy and Wuxia compared to his other works, It really was in the style of the best era of HK movies, like literally for me, HK films from the late 80s to the whole of the 90s were the best. I also remember watching Fat Choi Spirit, which, every year, HK will have some form of Chinese New Year Films. And that was probably the most iconic for me. I still watch it sometimes. Running on Karma isn't that bad either it, granted it wasn't his best work and it has a lot of flaws, but it was fun to watch whenever it was on. Haven't watched much of his other more recent films from like the late 2000s to now, since I have kind of lost interest in HK movies and it was also the era of Superhero films, so I just kind of lost interest in the HK film industry totally, not many caught my fancy. Like literally the last film I watched was Mad Detective, and I just found it was by Johnnie To! Having said that I did watched both Election films and heard a 3rd one is coming out, might just go watch it in theatres. PS: He's also the most nominated director for the HK Film Awards for Best Director, 18 nominations.
Wow, I didn't know he had that nominations. He definitely deserves it!
Great video, I've never herd of him and will have to check out Johnnie To's movies.
I'm so glad! Thank you for watching my video!
Video good, I like
