A cool detail I noticed is when the makers would highlight Jann’s place in the race, the chime would be a PlayStation sound but it gradually changed over time to be more in tune with the racing circuit. I thought that was a nice touch to highlight his transformation from a gamer to a professional racer.

Grew up playing Gran Turismo 3 on PS2, I've waited 20 years for this movie. I saw an interview with the director and he said this film was made for the cinema, so I hope that means they still translated the aspects of the game "feeling like you're actually in a race car" onto the screen.

It was definitely intentional to have the Chief Engineer (Harbour) and Mardenborough (Madekwe) have a more intense relationship than with his father. Chief Engineers and their drivers become attached at the hip in motorsports give that the life of the driver really does fall int he Chief Engineer knowing what they are doing and keeping the pit crew in line, also discussing strategy, etc. They also tend to be the ones the fight off people like Orlando Blooms character. You can see this in F1 with Lewis Hamilton, that while he and his dad are VERY close, his attachment to Bono (Chief Engineer) is very much apparent. The creators of this film caught that very well.

Best movie of the year top 5 I’ve ever see. Of all time

    • @EdDeezNuts944
      @EdDeezNuts944 Год назад +10

Attention to detail was actually abysmal. Here's my list of complaints:
      - Repetitively stressing that gran Turismo is a simulator not a game (nice try commercial)
      - characters are so overdramatic about "having blood on their hands" as if sportscar racing is even that dangerous. It was just foreshadowing for the accident that nobody could've seen coming.
      - his race in GT Academy felt so anticlimactic and he just breezed past 5 drivers in 3 laps without any clip of like him taking a better line or anything.
      - every single scene, especially the racing scenes are built like an overly dramatic montage or a video game trailer. Absolutely god awful from the perspective of an endurance racing fan and grassroots track day driver myself.
      - in his first professional race he got by some drivers, was doing well, and then got absolutely punted by the asshole driver. Which is fine, happens all the time in real racing, capa racing team should get a penalty nismo will move on. But no they act like this was a tragedy for Jann and like he made a big mistake? Has this director ever watched a real race? You don't ram other racecar drivers and not get penalized. Sure it's disappointed to fall down the order, but the race proved he had the pace to keep up.
      - speaking of above, the "villain" is insane and extreme. In real life, he would've lost his license for his driving in Dubai autodrome, but they act like it's just racing. And he definitely wouldn't have been invited to Le Mans. They must have taken cues from romano fenati because there's no way there was a real opponent of Jann that bad.
      - after his nurburgring crash, they acted like he was in a coma for a while. There's literal footage of him getting out of the car and putting his hands over his head (likely) after realizing the severity of the incident, seconds after crashing. He was absolutely fine.
      - they featured Anthony Davidson's crash at the end of mulsanne with a Ferrari but pretended it was another guy in an LMP2, instead of the TOYOTA LMP1. They also had it burst in extremely unrelasitic flames for some reason.
      - he set a lap record?!!? LMFAOO in an LMP2 car?? Obviously the movie was a huge commercial for Nissan, and that's such a disrespect to Toyota.
      - HUNGARORING instead of Le Mans??? I nearly lost my mind. I understand how difficult it would be to get access to Mulsanne highway for filming, but for god's sake don't just film helicopter shots of an entirely different track for half the movie.
      - they kinda also acted like he got 3rd overall at Le Mans. His podium was very impressive, but they didn't mention a single thing about the different classes. I would've loved to hear about his ligier LMP2.
      Then for my car nitpicking
      - they weren't in GTRs they were in 370z's I believe. Very minor thing though
      - first professional race included a couple 992 cup cars, a 997 Gt3 R, a Camaro GT4, and a Corvette C8.R (probably fake because they're originally GTE cars and like $2 million). This is supposed to be about 2012/13 half those cars didn't exist
      - nurburgring race featured a Ford gtlm and Corvette which have never raced at Nurburgring (NLS/VLN)
      - said Ford gtlm is actually just a modified roadcar version of Ford Gt
      - villain got in a Koenigsegg gemera at some point and also took a 992 GT3RS right after the accident. Accident happened in 2015. Very frustrating timing.

:-O you're taking the piss aren't you? It's a B grade rip off of Days of Thunder. Some of the SFX are borderline horrid. The acting is meh. The characters are not exciting at all and the 'arch' of the kid is meh. Not to mention it's not even properly based in 'based on' given this is based on the 4th year winner not the first.
It lacked real grit. The parent relationship? lol barely there. The brother...barely there. Almost all characters are there just coz and not to really add enough to the movie.
Days of Thunder, a movie 30 years old, kills this movie. I get fanboys of the game will love this. But that probably says it all.
Could have been amazing..and yet...so much meh it wasn't funny.

Underrated? District 9 was incredibly well-received since day one and it was immediately a critic and audience favorite, earning 200 million vs a 30 million budget. His issue was releasing a movie that was deeply hated by a lot of the people it tried to represent (Elysium) and a movie that was pretty good but forgettable (Chappy)

That they would 100% leave everybody else to rot & fight over resources down here on Earth if they could?!
For f*cks sakes... they are literally trying to go off planet RIGHT NOW, right in front of all of our faces, to set up an alternate world on Mars!
And it's not like IF they can make it happen, they will compassionately allow anybody who wants to go with them to start over, go! lol They would never allow for that - unless they needed a "Servant Class", and that's IT.
The wealthy 1% are not interested in fixing the home planet that THEY mostly helped destroy! Instead, they will pool all of their resources to go start over somewhere ELSE... and leave all the rest of Us to slowly perish on a dying Earth.
This is already happening, and in the real early stages *IN REAL LIFE* right now! 🥴🌎🚀💰
So I hope that the people who were pissed off about Elysium when it 1st came out for some dumbass reason, have since rethought their feelings. Some of these movies about the future tell a bleak truth about what it will be like for those of Us in the Working or "Middle" Classes. Its not gonna be fair/just, or pretty.

I had and played the first Gran Turismo on Playstation. I was never really into racing games and know NOTHING about cars. But, what I did appreciate about the game was how real it could be. Like adding the wrong parts to a car can SERIOUSLY affect how it runs or handles. A lot of other racing games make it way easier to upgrade. So for that realism, I have always appreciated the game. And the graphics were nice too.

Holy shit this movie was incredible, going into it I actually had pretty low expectations because although this is based on a true story when I heard the plot I thought it sounded stupid as hell, but oh my god this movie blew me away, first off I really like the main kid, I think what makes him and his journey so good is that seeing as how this movie is essentially an underdog story the fact that it’s centered around a gamer kid racing in a real race car tournament it adds this extra layer to it being an underdog story because yeah, since he’s just a gamer everyone doubts him and thinks he can’t do it, and what makes it great is that realistically you can totally see where they’re coming from, an idea like this sounds like something that could never work, and so both the supporters and the doubters of it are people you can identify with, I also like how they incorporated the visual style of having the real life racing look like the game to him, it was a great visual representation for how he’s so in tune with the racing, like when you get so in tune with something that you’re doing the entire world just disappears around you and you’re just left with you and the thing you’re focused on, and I like that it’s used pretty sparingly, it’s not like every time he races it always has that style, they still have normal looking racing scenes, which I like, that stuff was cool when it happened but at the same time I’m glad they didn’t overcook it, but the best part of the movie is definitely David Harbour, on top of the great comedic dialogue he has when he’s talking to these kids his arc throughout the movie is amazing, because he goes from this guy who just hates the fact that these kids are even being able to do this to a man who really bonds with the main guy and becomes a real friend to him, the interactions between the 2 of them, especially when he starts to come around to liking him are all fantastic, and man, this movie has some intensity to it as well, there was a huge “Holy shit” moment that happened early in the second act that I was convinced wouldn’t be topped, but then something happens right before the third act and it topped it by a mile, like Jesus Christ it’s heavy, like my heart totally sank when it happened, and considering where our main character is at once it happens it makes it all the more cheer worthy when you see where it all leads, like I quite honestly wanted to stand up and cheer by the end of the movie, all in all I was absolutely floored by this movie, for a movie I had no expectations for whatsoever I was astonished by what I got, the characters are great, the movie had great drama and nail biting suspense and it was so much better than I ever thought it would be. 10/10

Main character from against-the-institution background goes to training, competes to be the best, has an accident where someone dies (from which he was cleared of all responsibility), mentor puts him right back 'in the saddle', eventually triumphs to the big victory. All of this woven in with exciting high speed action sequences.

Coming from someone who is in the racing industry I wanna say this he was essentially his crew chief an with racing it becomes a way of life for us an more times then not we bond with our crew chief because there the people we spend the most time with and we trust them with our life’s an if we didn’t we wouldn’t climb in our cars an an do what we do. with each race the bond only grows stronger an that’s not only at the track that would also be along the road to the track that sometimes have absolutely nothing to do with the racing, just story’s being exchanged an memories that once there gone will be cherished for the rest of your life. My grandfather was my first crew chief an he taught me everything I know about the cars to how to drive them an I feel that in a lot of way I looked up to him as if he was my father an that’s something that I don’t think a lot of people understand about the motorsports world until they really take the time to just go to a local track an have a conversation with any one of the guys there that night.

Flying through races is ok, that quick jump in time, but you need to do it a little better I think. Rush in 2013 did it spot on imo. It had enough sprinkled races, the important ones, to not break pace, skipped over other events but showed some snips from them as well, and it kinda fit nicely to the narrative. The last race I would say was more immersive in Rush than the last race in GT. But the last race in GT I felt was kinda hype at moments too.
It had some of the usual tropes as well like, waiting for a result to see if you won, along with plenty other tropes, and I am sure they took plenty liberties to frame the story with difference to reality to spice it up, but overall I enjoyed this film quite a bit. As a casual sim racer myself, it was a really nice time.
One of the liberties taken in the film (which is a Playstation Film, lol), was saying Gran Turismo is the most realistic Simulator ever... 🤡
iRacing, AC and ACC to name a few would like to have a word :P
Although timeline wise, perhaps we could say this is the case for when this actually happened, however we are still actually racing in cars from a decade later and it looks like a 2023 GT race league, lol. I mean Huracan? 488 GT3? Kinda muddles the timeline completely when possible and when it suits the narrative :) At which point, seeing modern cars and saying the best simulation ever in the same context next to each other, again, some games will like to have a word :D
Technically it can't be disputed as back in the day this was most likely true... But yeah, nitpicking at this point, it was still a great and enjoyable film :)
