    Other than being a sort of "best of both worlds" kind of paint, I wanna try Gouache because it's fun to say. Gwaaash.

    Hey just wanted to let you know your voice over audio is only appearing on left side for me. Since I have a pair of old-ish headphones and the left side doesn't work I just assumed this video had no audio. Then I unplugged my headphones and heard your voice over. But your intro music I heard on my right and only functioning headphone 😂

    i'm gonna do my sketchbook cover page with gouche; as for the video, i really, really love seeing your paintings start out and how they look almost unrecognizable by the end. that's definitely my biggest issue with everything; if something doesn't look like it does in my head right away, i have a habit of abandoning it. i'm working on that, though.
    for the record, i'd totally buy a print of this WINK WINK

    • @HulloAlice

      Yasss do it! And aww thankyou! I actually can't visualize in my head (I think I'm gonna make a video about it) and that might contribute to it! I have to see on the page as I go because I can't picture it in my head. I have like ideas of what I want to do in a verbal description sort of way but no image I can pull from!

    • @starshapedseal
      @starshapedseal 5 лет назад +2

      @@HulloAlice oh right! i think i remembered you mentioned something like that on twitter a while ago. i have the opposite problem. i can see things in my head so vividly and in such immaculate detail that what i put on the page doesn't compare. i'm getting better about it, though, and telling myself hey, you have to start somewhere and the way i draw isn't necessarily how my mind sees things, either.

    I'm getting reacquainted with watercolor and your tip to start with the most watered down layers first and add the dryer more opaque ones on top is going to be really helpful.

    Have been painting with gouache for a while now and being a primarily watercolor artist, it is one of my favorite things! I love to layer it on top of watercolors and how it adds a vibrant touch to my paintings. If you’re thinking about trying out gouache, definitely go for it! For sure spend some time testing and trying it out. It’s a really fun medium

    The painting is lovely! The colours really pop. I've also started learning how to use gouache and what you say about it being tricky at first is so true! I was convinced my paints where just bad because they are so cheap, but no, it was just because I didn't know what I was doing.

    i love this piece, great work with the colour scheme :)
    gouache only clicked for me recently when i "forgot" how everyone says "it's like watercolor" or "it's more like oil paint", because i kept trying to use it as if it were something else and had a rough time of it. gouache is just its own thing! and i appreciate it. i find that gouache can be used on papers that can't take watercolor; it's not gonna be the Best most amazing paper for it, but i find gouache to be serviceable on smoother papers that are just the worst for watercolor. watercolor paper is probably best for gouache though, or at the very least you want a Thicc surface!

    I have that love/hate relationship with gouache, I just never trust it because the colors have such a severe shift when dry! I read the mission white paint from mijello doesn’t have such an extreme shift. I am so impressed with your expertise with this medium! Oh Holbein is fine, like wine, for pronunciation if your interested, I have the Arteza brand and it is a good medium grade paint. Amazing picture keep going as you are Alice!
