When I was 9 years old a Filipino nurse cared for me my heart stop twice but that Filipino nurse would not give up continuing CPR on me I will never forget her that was back in 1976 when she leave the hospital I cried so hard she was the first woman I fell in love with yes I was 11 years old I'm now 55 years old. My way to honoring her I'm retiring in 2020 moving to Philippines starting my own small multi businesses so I can help as many children their get education that is my dream thank God she was in emergency room when they bring me in or I would not be here today when Doctors want to call my death she kelp working on my until I heart gets small rhythm again I never seen her again after I left hospital I was in hospital for 6 weeks. I think about her sometimes but that is my way to pay it forward in God name and hers Amen :)

Andre Cureton you have a kind heart. Thank you for thinking of helping less fortunate kids as your way of honoring the Filipina nurse who helped you while you were in the hospital. Wherever she may be right now I’m sure she will be proud of you like I am right now. God bless you always. With love from a filipina here in the Philippines.

The only time I was hospitalized a Filipino male nurse, took much better care of me than a white female nurse. The white female nurse looked at me as if I was an "alien." my request went unanswered, But the Filipino male nurse took excellent care of me. This was in the United States in the state of Texas. That was the culture in that part of Texas. Glad I had a Filipinio nurse to care for me.

Actually we are all wearing blue hospital provided scrubs under our isolation gowns, N95 masks, face shields, disposable head coverings, disposable booties over shoes and double gloved. I actually don't know of any nurses who wear white uniforms anymore. The last time I ever wore a white nurse's uniform was in 1985 when I worked in CCU.
I went to Acute Hemodialysis and then to the operating room. These areas insist upon personnel wearing hospital provided scrubs. I have worked in two emergency departments since 1999. Scrubs are much more appropriate to wear for the type of physical work that we have to do and type of things that we are exposed to. I lost the nursing cap back in 1979, when psychotic men kept pulling it off my head , taking a handful; of hair with it - because the nursing cap was pinned in place.
I did see some nurses in Chennai, India wearing white uniforms and nursing caps, back in 2011. They were dressed exactly how western nurses dressed back in the 1960s through 1980s.

When I began my career in nursing I first encountered exceptional nurses in the intensive care/cardiac care unit I worked. I noticed the smartest or wisest nurses happened to be Pilipino. I'm not one to be prejudiced or pit races against each other so this was exceptional for me to notice. One day, I asked one of the most senior nurses - "Filipina", Why are the nurses here from the Philippines so well educated and smart? She quickly said because the smart ones left, (Oh, I thought she joked), and of course was. I said, in fact you need to be smart to work in this career. I love all cultures and people, but Philippine's people have an extra dear place in my heart. Later, I met my partner there-16 years, the happiest of my life. He just earned his PhD in Nursing. Tom lol. He's sleeping becoss he's tired cus he woke up early this morning lollllllllllllllll.

Nowadays a lot of people call Filipinos the Mexicans of Asia, and although I know it can come from a place of insult I believe that coming from a Mexican it can also be a compliment. Today in California I've seen a lot of Filipino-Mexican couples and it's interesting to see how these two communities have bonded going all the way back to Cesar Chavez. Spain might have taken a lot from us but it also brought us together in a shared experience of injustice.

Its not an insult. Its because really culturally its like a mix of hispanic and asian influences. Most Filipinos are catholic for one plus there are significant similarities not just because both were colonized by Spain. The Philippines wasn't directly ruled by Spain. It was ruled via the viceroy of New Spain (Mexico). Add to that the galleon trade which spanned centuries between Manila and Acapulco. In fact, the Philippines and Mexico exchanged a lot of cultures. You can still find Mexicans who were descendants of Filipinos in Guerrero and a few other areas. We gave you mangoes and you gave us chocolate.

    • @vivalacarlo
      @vivalacarlo 6 лет назад +42

Actually it goes back further than we think, Philippines and Mexico were under the same viceroyalty of New Spain. Our cultures were mixed through 3 centuries worth of trade and sharing. Our folk music such as our rondallas were similar if not the same up until the early 1800s. The officers who ruled the philippines were mostly not pure spanish but mexican-spanish up until Mexico's independence when those ties were severed. Mexico tried to rekindle the bond but Spain prevented this up until the Philippine independence at the end of the 1800s. The bond we both share goes deeper than it seems.

My older sister is a Filipino nurse in Maryland, and she tells me that her hard work never went unnoticed. She got promoted several times, she even have patients who specifically ask for her care when they get confined. For many years I worry about her living there alone, but after visiting her and seeing how she's being treated I'm glad she is very well appreciated by her community.
Her friends weren't so lucky though, so I always tell my American friends (or anyone for that matter) that these nurses left behind their families to provide for them. What little they make mostly goes to their big families at home, they're the ones giving their families hope as the country's political structure shifts and changes.

You can't really buy anything with 5 Php other than candy or a cheap snack... Very important historical correction: the US and Spain did not go into a legitimate war, as was purported in the video. Instead, what happened was a mock battle, covering up an already made trade agreement between the two imperial powers to sell, as if a commodity, the whole Philippine nation. This is in relation to Spain trying to save its face in connection to seeing local revolutionary forces coming to a close in ending its 333-year colonial rule. So, instead of being seen as overthrown by natives, they gave in to another Imperial Power instead, and sold the country for 20 Million US Dollars. (This side of marginal history is integral in seeing fundamentally how mainstream history is sanitized, to serve the intent of hegemony, w/c in this case, is American imperialism itself).
As for the case of why there are so many Filipino nurses in the U.S., in addition to the video: this is partly the result of a set-up wherein a capitalist Imperial power takes hold of a colony and its citizens, and makes subjects out of them. Specifically, in becoming & being a colony, a majority of Filipinos thus became reified and/or objectified, and their labours were thus cheapened. All for the gains of capitalist US economy, accumulating more profit from cheap labour.
Thought you should know. America is not that "benevolent" at all.

1 st they are awesome . Due to thier sweet caring disposition. 2nd. They are ....leagl ... they filled a demand in the usa when there was a shortage . I have first hand experience on this with my sister in law . She first agreed to a 1 year contract in a nursing home . Even though she is a registered nurse .
Which payed her way into the usa .
After the year , she went on to rn work .. she has recieved awards of ecellence . Is now studying more to further her career , while raising 3 nice kids with her husband . Attends church every sunday to honor god
She is a role model to my daughter . And much appreciated by me .

I'm glad to hear so many feedback how Filipino and Filipina nurses are hard-working and caring. I believe they deserve the reward of good paying jobs overseas to help their families, no matter what angle you look at it it's a sensible and righteous way to help the lesser fortunate. I had to admit that Philippines is a nation that breeds true carers.

It's not easy being a teacher here even if you're born here. Someone I know told me a teacher she knew came to the U.S. to work from the Philippines but she could not hack it any more. I think the nursing job is better because they are dealing with sick people who might not have too much energy to give them a hard time. But a class full of young people who like to make fun of people and most likely make fun of the teacher's accent that won't work out.

I feel glad that Filipinos are in demand abroad because of their quality. But sadly, the motherland suffers a bit from this. All our finest workers have to go abroad to be compensated well and we cant blame them. I wish for the Philippines to progress soon, so all our countrymen, our heroes, can finally come back for good and serve our country.

I've been to Egypt many times and I was surprised to find they love Filipinos there. Egyptians are generally very lazy, or, more politely, relaxed. They have no problem sitting around for hours smoking and drinking tea, watching the day go by. Actually, many Arab cultures are like this, especially in rich gulf nations. Filipinos, by contrast, are world-renowned for their strong work ethic and attention to details and, thus, many rich Egyptian families love having them serve as maids.

    Filipino Nurses are:
-very professional and can speak really well in english and can easily learn a different language in just a matter of time.
-well knowledgeable in their chosen field and can easily adapt with the fast changing world of new technologies.
-well hygienic and always prioritize the cleanliness in everything.
    - very long patience and doing the job with so much love and compassion and treat the patient as their own family.
-never complaint and continue to work regardless of any stressful given situation.
-Filipino nurses are strong because they prefer to work far from their family just to secure the future and provide something good on the table.
