Filipino nurses are universally regarded as some of the best nurses around, and although we're not supposed to be stereotyping cultural groups, I've found very few exceptions to this rule in 12 years of being a doctor. Talking to my 🇵🇭 colleagues this week they are really scared about what is going on back home. I've not known them to be this worried. The problematic thing, though, in my opinion that is indicative of a greater problem from my perspective, is that the Filipino nurse training is like 1 year or 18 months, or at least it was ~a decade or so when I trained. In NZ, it's 3 years, plus another 1 or 2 with the equiv of doctoring registrar integration. Filipino nurses are lured in with promised jobs here, and then come and either only qualify as nurising assistants, or have to re-train, which doesn't seem fair to me. I should add that all the best phlebotomists I've know have always been Filipinos! Our nursing system is under strain like almost all nations, and we need to do better to support our immigrant workers, especially our Fillipino nurses.

Filipino nurses are all over the world. Have to pass nursing board tests which are different in each country. Best thing is to marry a nurse with a purse.
This made me cry. My mom being a foreign born nurse, but Mexican always tells me abt the Filipino nurses that work so hard and are quiet and just stick to doing their job. She admires their work ethic and how they put their heart and soul into nursing. Very amazing documentary ❤️

Soon the Philippines will have a massive shortage of teachers as they are also being hired in the US to fill the lack of public school teachers in rural America.
@@oOosupernicoOo True but it's actually that developed nations have routinely relied on attracting people from other nations to fill their own labor needs whether that's medical professionals, teachers, engineers or agricultural workers.
As an American surgeon who trained and practiced all across the United States, I can tell you that the Filipino nurses were the best, in and out of the operating room. They are knowledgeable, skillful, efficient, and very meticulous. Whenever I saw Filipino nurses around me, I knew my patients were in good hands. This is no exaggeration. I had no knowledge of such differences before being exposed and seeing for myself, time after time, hospital after hospital, state after state.
My best friend is a registered nurse but eventually switched to a different profession because of the low salary. But when the pandemic hit, she said, “if called, we (not practicing nurses) can drop everything and serve and be in the frontlines again...if only the government treated us well.” It broke my heart to hear that.

They still do it while occupying countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria etc. The even claim that they have to pay huge bills to destabilise the Govt there which needs to be compensated (through Oil and Opium)
@A. I. Aton of them dont. They just go to the US trying to find a well paid job at a hospital to feed their family. That sentence should be changed to "As if Filipino nurses dont want to come to CANADA and get citizenship" This sentence is much more considerable
Doing work isn't just based on how HIGHLY EDUCATED you are its also how RESPONSIBLE a person is, if youre well educated but youre lazy do you think you will succeed? noo 😂
its not about the foreigners its about companies being to cheap to raise wages . if no immigrants came in to work for cheap these companies would be forced to raise wages . just look at the crises when mexican day laborers were deported and these companies had to raise wages you had the mexicans making 7 dollars a hour to pick fruit now its 15 or 16 a hour just because of the shortages . same thing is happening with covid with every one making more on uneployment all these fast food chains raised wages to close to 15 a hour now . big business is the cause of it but when the immigrants stop coming you see wages go up . so its either raises wages by law or limit immigration
Just4Kixs Actually people going to nursing school has increased dramatically, but thousands of students are being waitlisted. I think a fraction of the shortage is coming from that. Not to mention, many hospitals are phasing out or requiring their nurses to get their BSN’s.
After this pandemic U.S will throw again the filipino nurses and will discriminate again😞..americans say("thanks for saving the life of their own american nurses to take their own job to avoid the killer pandemic and let be the filipino nurses be killed by pandemic")😂

I'm in my adulthood and I have thought of this many times before. Not just me but my friends too. Not because of money, it's mainly because of the current mindset of Filipinos that are starting to become toxic as time goes by. Maybe I am just growing up and seeing more of everything. There are certain industries that are not supported here in the Philippines that are very much supported and entertained outside the country.
The interpretation of such statement depends on the context. If you're a pessimist, you'll take this negatively of course. But for me, there's nothing wrong or sad in such statement *(as I interpret it from a different perspective).
Ofcourse who would settle for a 350-500 peso per day pay compared to 10k peso a day in other country. Try to be a nurse in the Philippines and you will understand the exploitation. 💩
I think they were talking about the aftermath of the Filipino Revolutionary war during 1989-1901: Philippines and US against Spain, and then Philippines vs US during the Philippine-American war.
"The system keeps us poor." This is the line we keep hearing normally today, even in Rich Dad, Poor Dad book. This is actually the system where governments take profits from exploitation of its citizens. Be smart and question everything that your government does to lure you in the trap.
Don't worry, We hope the New System will be Change so the Entreprenurial Spirits of the Filipino of the Old Times takes shapes and reveal itself again to the World. Remember, Philippines and Filipinos are created by God, not to become the Tails of Nations but the Heads of the World.

Jeff Duque The China Part is true though. Electrical grid companies have most of their shares from Chinese companies. Nurses in the Philippines are taken for granted. Low income, no hazzardpay, they're better off to other countries where they're more appreciated than in their own country
They don't go to another country to be appreciated... They go there because it's money... Dollars converted to Peso is big... If Philippines improve how they pay to jobs like Nursing ... Filipinos won't be going anywhere.
Arsica The Sweetest Very true! It’s the money and higher payments that they are after. Talk about “appreciation”, but really they meant better and higher payments in other countries. I don’t know what happened to these filipinos’ pride for their country. They all blamed it on their president for their miseries and mishaps when they are also huge part of the problems. They start hating their country and their president, expecting their president to be the solution to every problem they have, complaining on western media while not actually doing anything to improve their country, hating the president for “going by the interests of China,” wanting to go abroad and making jokes about having more than just a problem. Goodness, every country has millions of problems, not just Ph. How funny these Filipinos wouldn’t get together to solve the problems together, but rather run away from the problems. Lol
As a Filipino, it just breaks me to see how nurses and health workers here have low salaries, which is why I understand why many of them leave and work in other countries. They are so underappreciated here
Let them go overseas. The only time I want them back is when the government starts to take notice of their problems and give them better wages. Only then will we welcome them home.

@@roonilwazlib4433 The money is going to executive pay, insurance companies, and shareholders instead of the hospitals and the workers. That's the problem.
That's definitely not how salaries actually work. I hate to tell you that 7th grade lied to you, but it did. Employers often decrease salaries if there is a surplus, but they don't often increase in a similar way if there is a scarcity. Especially in medicine. The medical specialities for doctors that are the most scarce are also the least paying.

Yes Filipinos are everywhere. Your country is a common destination for Filipino nurses :) "Saudi Arabia became the leading destination for Filipino nurses"
Here in the Philippines, people look up to you if you're a nurse working in the US, UK or anywhere abroad. But they laugh and look down at nurses who have stayed here in the Philippines, thinking that they're missing their chance of getting a better life. It's sad. There's a lot that the Philippine government needs to fix.
Whoever those "they" who look down to nurses, I am glad that I am neither one of them nor that I know someone like them. - A non-overdramatic Manila local *You can't speak as if you represent us, the majority. I believe that Filipinos in general are very thankful to all nurses whether they work locally or abroad.
Didn't know Filipino nurses who stayed to serve our country were look down by their countrymen... I grew up in a town where people respect nurses. Di naman ako nainform... 😑
I think the US is already paying the Filipino nurses fair salary. So is the Philippines. Unfortunately for the Philippines, nurses are paid more outside of the Philippines. That is the reason why nurses work abroad. The salary is always higher abroad. Why won't the Philippines increase the salary of the nurses then? It is just a matter of law of supply and demand. There are so many nurses in the Philippines so the nurse's salary is not increasing much. Unfortunate for the nurses.
@@longjumpingbread8799 I think" fair" depends on your own definition of it, for instance, you'll try to compare the Foreign country's rate for nurses and the Philippine rate, surely Philippine rate would not be fair, but try to consider the Philippines economic rate, Philippines is not like the US or any other developed country, the Philippines is just a developing country, for now, so I personally think that the government is just trying to balance everything. P.S This is just my opinion, hope this statement of mine will not offend you in any way.
That’s the case a few years ago. I’d say for people my age, it’s become accountancy. I know because i myself am taking it up lol. It’s just not felt that much because the demand for accountants is high. Let’s see when oversupply happens.

Well from what my filipina step mother did, a lot of them also need the money. Most of the Philippines lives in poverty. The ability to be able to go to the US and get a salary higher than the Philippine's nurses salaries is better to help their families. They send money back home to help their families.
Also you can't be hating on the Filipino nurses since the united states has a shortage of doctors and nurses due to our high student debt needed to pay for both college and med school. Not to mention residency by the time you've done all that you're half a million dollars into debt.
@@Bianca-rd8zu exactly 💯. Thank you for your explanation. People don't understand how expensive higher education is in the USA. They don't understand the amount of debt most people have.
@@mmrgratitudes no problem, an average med school education is about 278,455 dollars for 4 years. Add that onto an average of 26,290 a year for an out of state college. Plus medical school application entry fees, USMLE tests which cost 1200 dollars, the prep course materials, the books, room and board. This is only basic level doctors, surgical doctors need to take surgical residency on top of REGULAR recidency and then if they are like specialty surgeon like a brain surgeon. Extra neuro residency, with all these student loans, a bank doesn't want to give you a house loan which is a problem because by the time you are done with all that school. You can be anywhere from 28-32 years old, the time in your life when you want to buy a home. Then you need to rent which isn't investing into your future, you might want to have kids because its that age. So you have to take time off which leaves debt that still needs to be paided. It's a mess.
In the Philippines, nurses have to pay the hospitals to get training. Midwifery offers more opportunities than Nursing in the Philippines. Many Nurses end up as call center representatives.
Krazy Tube that’s true but by definition immigrants are the first generation of people who come here. So if an immigrant comes here and has a child here, the child is not an immigrant.
As per the video: they are taking the jobs that the local americans themselves are rejecting because even though healthcare in the US is expensive, the pay of nurses and first responders are not that high. That's also the reason why hospitals assign Filipino nurses to the most dangerous and strenuous nursing jobs while the "local" american nurses take the lighter nursing jobs. Most Filipino nurses get assigned to the heaviest work, the lower level pay, and then get discriminated against. Murica! (and it's not just the US that's treating Filipino nurses like this).

One of the people that supports my studies is my aunt. A Filipino nurse in the U.S. I just remember her from this video. I'm proud of her.
we have many Filipino nurses here in New Zealand too, i was just in hospital. I like them they are kind and loving people
I won't be surprised if Australia have the same case as your country since they have a big Filipino population
kind and loving? arent nurses suppose to care for you in general? uhh
@@Fun-rf9vs because some nurses are sometimes picky. and some of them are so plastic if they don't like the patient. like they says, "that old woman stinks."
@@Fun-rf9vs culture also plays a big part on that, sir. If you were raised in a tight-knitted large family like most Filipinos are, you'd be more caring and tolerating. Also, unlike most Americans, we don't send our old to retirement homes. We care for them until their last breath. Which is kind of expected since most retirement homes aren't in good condition and aren't paid much attention to by the government.

You're right sir, it's obvious a lot of people remain poor due to ignorance
It's better to take risk and make sacrifices than to remain poor.
It's not ignorance but due to some unprofessional expert in the market.
Respect to all filipino nurses around the world especially during this time of pandemic
all great filipinos leave the country scientist engineers nurses and more thats why we dont prosper
in philippines actors are paid more than engineers and scientist
No dude...it's mainly because of corruption

Philippines should take care of their nurses so they don’t NEED to leave home...
Easier said than done.
I'm a registered midwife. I quit because i earn so much more in call centers
The most embarrassing words to say is “They’re taking our jobs!”
Why Hardly anyone says that. If it was true we wouldn’t accept so many immigrants.
But everyone is america is considered immigrants including white which obviously came from Europe
Krazy Tube that’s true but by definition immigrants are the first generation of people who come here. So if an immigrant comes here and has a child here, the child is not an immigrant.
Many Filipinos sometimes go abroad so that they can earn money to help their family
Fascinating. I've always wondered why so many of my nursing colleagues were Filipino. I had no idea it had such a story behind it.
not only that, a filipino's dream is to visit the states

You know how American put soldiers on a pedestal? Philippines does that to the OFWs, that bring in a boat load of the nation's GDP, but don't really protect them as well as they should.
