People ask me all of the time about cheap cities in Mexico for retirement. People ask me, “Can I live cheap in Mexico?” Right after that they ask me, “Where can I live cheap in Mexico?”
So if you you are thinking about saving money in Mexico, or if you want to live cheap in Mexico, in the video you will see places that nobody ever talks about.
Sure, many people wonder how to retire in Mexico, and they want to retire cheap in Mexico. They want to know about cheap places to retire in Mexico. They come right out and ask me, “Hey, Bill the Geek, can I retire cheap moving to Mexico?'
But many people that watch our videos are not at retirement age, they are younger and they want to know about renting cheap in Mexico.
So you can retire cheap living in Mexico, or you can just live cheap by moving to Mexico if you are working on line. Many Expats tell their friends in the US and in Canada, “Retire in Mexico Now!”

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for...

I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.

The best place to retire is Chapala Lake, any of the towns around it. Ajijic is a favorite. The climate is great! I don't recommend to move to the village because of the firecrackers on their feast days, that in some towns like Ajíjic will start around the 30th of November for their patron Saint, it will continue for the festivity of Dec 8 and 12, and continue through the whole month of December. They start at 5 AM until after 9 am. I used to have a house there. I did not mind the noise. But can be annoying for some one. But to live there is a delight.

We retired 4 months ago at 55 and 60 and we are slow traveling between Mexico and Argentina over several years. We are cool weather lovers, speak Spanish, and are currently living in Matagalpa, Nicaragua….all in for about $1100/month…
Next we plan to live in Guatemala for 6 months then Mexico for 6 months, before heading to South America.
We think we might like these cities in Mexico-
    San Cristobal de las Casas

    Puebla/Cholula

Nice video. Any thoughts about Atlixco, Pue.? A couple of years ago you could buy a nice townhouse there for $30,000 USD. I did all of my traveling in Mexico between 1967 and 1982 (more than 100,000 kilometers in all but four border states. Many of the large coastal resorts (Sayulita, etc) consisted of a few thatched houses when I was there. Cancun had seven hotels, Playa del Carmen three to four houses, no hotels or restaurants at all near Tulum. Guanajuato had a pop. of about 37,000, Puerto Vallarta maybe 25,000. No KFCs or Burger Kings. For most people Sears was the high end big box store, and there weren't many of them. If I were to move to Mexico I'd probably be disappointed by all the changes, but I'm sure the changes have benefitted most Mexicans in terms of their standard of living.

My wife and I relocated to Morelia, Michoacan two years ago. We rented a beautiful 3brm/3ba home in a very nice neighborhood, for 8000 pesos ($400 USD) per month. If you're not infatuated, or demanding beach front property, Mexico is very affordable. There's a lot more to Mexico, than laying on the beach. Due to the elevation, and mild climate, we don't need home heating or A/C.

My best advice to you is take what ever city you WERE thinking about and find the next two or three smaller towns around them and you might have a year or two at these prices before those areas are blown out also.
Dont listen to anyone quoting prices from two years ago!!
Get real. Youll be lucky if 6mo old information is still current by the time you get there. Just keeping it real, saving you time and expenses ✌🏼😎

Costco? Walmart & Costco are a must for me. I am sure it is for many US expats.
Does Durango have Walmart & Costco?
I haven't been in a Sears for decades, never my thing. It's a housewife with good credit kinda thing. A last century kinda thing before eBay and Amazon. No pharmacy, tools, toiletries, automotive, or food. No, I walked through a Sears in Ensenada last year. Designer and fine products, not cheap.
Can one get items delivered to Walmart & Costco from their online store? That would be great!

    • @BillDallasLewis

Yes, they do have Costco and Walmart in Durango, here is the address for Costco with the phone number.
Blvd. de la Juventud 414, Col. del Maestro 34240 Durango Mexico. +52 618 810 4386.
I was surprised. We have lots of Walmarts here in Mazatlan, but no Costco. PV has Costco and GDL, but not here and they deliver food right to where you live. Many of my neighbors use this service.

$500 a month is NOT that "cheap" for a 1 bedroom!!! & in 2021 I was getting 20-p/$1-US$. Now the dollar has gone a LOT & as of today it's 17.1-p/$1-US$.

    crime in these cities???

I was in each and every one of these cities and I was totally safe, 24-7. I have not had a problem with crime in 18 years of living here. The only time I had a problem with crime is when some one broke into my car 2 times. But that was in Columbus, Ohio.

Why are all the prices that you’re showing from two years ago in 2021? None of this information is current anymore.

But, it does give you an idea when comparing city to city, and, I bet the prices are still pretty much the same.

TY Bill. Great info. I will definitely check out a couple of these places. JocoTepec and Guanajuato sound most appealing to me❤

Both are very nice places. I lean towards Guanajuato. That place is the BOMB!!!!! If you visit that place, you will get rid of JocoTepic on your list.

What do you like about Jocotepec? I had never heard of that place before you mentioned it. Only Ajijic

Bill where’s Jocotepec located? It’s Jalisco state?? Thank. For the info. Very helpful. We’re thinking to go to Mexico at the end of this year and we love the Bahia de Banderas area but on the Nayarit side cause Vallarta is so expensive!! Any advice?? Thanks. Again and keep going you’re doing a wonderful and useful job!!!! Mr. Gomez

      Hola Mr. Gomez,
Jocotepec it about at 20 minute drive from Chapala or Ajijic. I would say it is about an hour and a half drive from Guadalajara. If you are checking out the Puerto Vallarta area, check out Bucerias, that is about 10 miles from PV and the prices should be cheaper.
Good luck and thanks for watching.
      Best,
      Bill

Hmm 🤔 I wonder what the prices are now in 2023? I don’t know why you keep bringing up at the McDonald’s and the KFC. Why would one place that is an important thing when you’re moving to a foreign country with excellent food everywhere really cheap? Anyway thanks for the information. I would be interested in seeing an update on prices.

      Hi Catherine,
I don´t think the prices would be much different from 2021 and 2023 in most cities and towns in Mexico. In places like Ajijic and Mazatlan, I am sure there has been a hugh increase, but in the cities and towns with hardly any Canadians and Ajmericans, I bet prices are about the same.
I point out McDonalds, Burger King, Dominoes and KFC, because when you see those places, that means that the city is really doing well. When you see a Walmart or Costco, that means that those companies see growth in the city. I don´t eat there, who would do that? Especially KFC.
Thanks for watching and thank you so much for your comment.
      Happy Saturday,
      Bill
