It's so funny seeing people stumble through theories on how Amon is able to take peoples bending, when we all had f*ck ton of crazy theories too back when this first came out.
And we had to wait to a week at a time to find out.
I wished the power was granted by the spirits theory was true. I think that would've been more interesting and would've transition well with the next season. The ’real’ story just seems generic and boring, Amon just had daddy issues and that was what lead him into creating a revolution force?
@@brandonlyon730 people get upset at that conclusion too, but that is it when you boil it down. considering hes not an honest person, his resentment for bending probably has nothing to do with anything political, and he probably blames bending for how his family turned out. As much the two brothers disliked their dad, they went down similar paths in turns of being concerned with acquiring power. while tarloq acquired power climbing the higher ranks of society, amon acquired power gaining influence from the underground. at least seemingly.
@@brandonlyon730 Nah, I prefer how it was done, a spiritual power really doesn't suit Amon's persona and by the lore should be something only for the Avatar. It had to be something more savage like Bloodbending and saying that is all because of daddy issues it's stupidly simplistic, because while his experience with his family did shape who he is now, because of course it did, like it shape all of us, the truth of the matter is that benders do have privileges over non-benders. So is not only about what he experienced as a kid, but also what he saw of the world today, after all he was insanely popular with non-benders for a reason, he made use of a discontent that was already there, no one should have to fear that suddenly a person could burn your face off at a moment's notice because he is having a bad day. But that's just going too deep into things.
@@christianmh9549 I do kinda agree with what dude said how it would've connected seasons 1 and 2 a little better if it was a spiritual power, but like Toph said in season 4; Amon wanted equality, Uniloch wanted unity, and Zaheer wanted freedom. Idk blood bending is a dope power set and I was just happy to see more of it.
Their father totally corrupted his sons and violated their perception of bending. Yakone messed his so much that the very thing they hated and wanted to go against is the very thing they became

@@appledough3843 True but then it would’ve seemed like they just went and sort of copied that season onto the second with Unalaq becoming an evil avatar cause, there’s no doubt people would see the obvious similarities between the two. In fact the writers could’ve seen that theory and that inspired the storyline for season 2.
Bloodbending's movements resemble those of Chin Na, techniques in Chinese martial arts which are designed to entrap or lock an opponent's limbs, thus neutralizing their ability to fight.
Despite having knowledge of bloodbending and healing, Many healers cannot reverse the effects of bending severing.
Katara's use of bloodbending retains the fluidity associated with conventional waterbending, unlike other practitioners of the art who use rigid movements.

I always loving seeing people’s reaction to the mask on Aang’s statue because it’s always the equivalent of someone disrespecting a beloved historical figure
Amon being a blood bender is kind of a deux ex machina, as it gives the heroes a way to discredit a revolution based on very real issues, without having to worry about the moral issues. If Amon was just a nonbender who had grown up repressed by benders or something of the like, it would have been so much more of a problem.
the Avatar should blood bend, there'd be less threats around
You make a really good point. I would have liked to see the benders in the show acknowledge the inequality that was happening. There are no non-benders on the council, for example. They did mention it briefly when Korra stands up to Tarlok vilifying the non-bender protest when their power was turned off.
Although, I think that a lot of the problems that benders created were mainly because they had physical power over others since there are no guns and other modern tech. Benders were enforcers in gangs, or used their power to steal and hurt others. You could argue that their status was more about their ability to be a tool or a weapon. The bender protagonists in the show provide an example of benders who have this ability but their power comes from their personality or their spiritual connectedness or other aspects beyond just the fact that they are a bender.
I understand what you're trying to say, but that's not a deus ex machina. There were moments of foreshadowing throughout the season hinting at it. But you are right about it undermining the rest of the conflict.
@Trashthlete Its not poorly written, what are you talking about
@Trashthlete thank you he should have stayed a non bender as it just ruined his character

Like his great-granduncle, Iroh also holds the rank of general.
Iroh has a very close relationship with his grandfather, Zuko.
Bryan Konietzko referred to Iroh as "Iroh the Younger" and described him as a "swashbuckling hero-type guy".
Iroh is voiced by Dante Basco, who also voiced his grandfather Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
In the Hebrew and German dub, Iroh is also voiced by the same actor who previously voiced Zuko in Books Two and Three of the original series.
Having destroyed many aircraft, Iroh would be considered a flying ace, that is, a pilot that has shot down five or more enemy aircraft. He also earned it in a single day without any prior experience or training, an incredible feat for a real-world pilot. As such, he would be the first known flying ace in the Avatar world.
After the initial skirmish following his arrival in Republic City, General Iroh gained a burn scar on his left arm reminiscent of his grandfather Zuko's burn scar.
The way that Iroh said that if "[his] grandfather would respect the Avatar's instinct, [he should, too]" is very similar to how Zuko would ask himself what his uncle would do.
The original Iroh and King Bumi worked together in the Order of the White Lotus, much like how Zuko's grandson Iroh and Aang's son Bumi worked together in the United Forces.

This is the second episode in which Gommu appears, the first being "Welcome to Republic City".

Katara and Zuko leave to fight Azula - Korra and Mako head toward Air Temple Island, looking for Amon.

I'm 90% certain that Amon's trick is using bloodbending in conjunction with the principles of chi blocking.
@NoMarz Colony Bloodbending gives him access to the person's entire body. If he can move a muscle, he can probably just, like, cut something that chi blocking would have just made swell up.
Or the principles of healing, which involves chi
@NoMarz Colony all this is connected to chi. for you to have your bending taken away, he'd have to be blocking chi paths. Which there is a forehead chakra conceptually. if he's just brain bending he would just off you permantely, a person would hemorrhage like crazy
@NoMarz Colonymy bad what i was tryna say was chi blocking in the show is not simply pressure points. even if it was, the pressure points are in the same chakra location in benders. he is essentially doing advanced chi blockkng. i mean its no stretch considering he surrounds himself with chi blockers in the equalist

he's not making some kind of blood clot. He's combining blood bending and chi blocking. Chi blocking can take bending away, but it's temporary because it's from the outside. But Aman chi blocks you from the inside, with your own blood which makes it permanent. That's why when he does it, there are no flashing lights, no epic soundtracks, just man concentrating on taking someone's bending away. He doesn't even need to touch the person, he just does that pose because it's reminiscent of the posse Aang did to Ozai, misleading the audience into thinking that it's a type of energy bending and the characters into thinking he's righteous. (the pose is seen as righteous within the avatar universe cause that's what ended the 100 year war)
That's still dumb, the writers shouldn't have ruined the character like this but oh well

Where we are seeing with the advancements of technology and warfare. We are starting to see that powers like Bending, Jutsu, and Titans are becoming slowly non important.
Well with. AoT that level of tech had been around while the series happening. Paradis was completely cut off and stagnant.
Nah in Boruto that shit is not realistic at least in Korra it took them 70 years for them to get to that level. Of course season 4 had the worst shit for me at least but at least they had time to get there. In Boruto that she not realistic even for ninja and boruto in general is not that good. With AoT is was always the case technology was always there even when Grisha was a kid.

The headcanon most of us have is that you can block off chakra's using bloodbending. That would then lead you to lose your bending. Through energybending you can restore the chakra again.
That might be why Korra can airbend in the next episode, in the process of closing three chakra's, the other one is opened.
FYI: If you ever around explosions and there is a source of water, there is only one thing you gotta remember: DON'T. Get flat on the ground with your feet to the (potential) source of explosion, if you are under water with for example a granate, the liquid will expand and move rapidly due to said explosion and your body will be part of it. While surviving on land is hard, surviving under water is nearly impossible.
General Iroh is Zuko’s grandson. The current firelord, Izumi is Zuko’s daughter, Iroh is her son.
6:40
For those who didn't know. Today is in fact the day Pearl harbor was bombed. Of course, this was pre-recorded way way before. But still.
I remember years ago when I first watched this I thought Tarlok and Amon were brothers cause his face when they said “you’re just like Amon.” I also knew Amon was a bender when I watched that episode where tarlok kidnapped Korra. When she runs away and all the snow is up everywhere he jumps through it and a perfect circle forms. I was like “oh he a bender! Only a bender can jump out a cloud like that!” So I thought Amon was half the avatar spirit. I decided that the spirit split and Korra got water, fire, and earth and Amon got energy bending, air, and spiritual powers. Lmao. I was thinking too hard.
Zuko his grandfather but I’m sure y’all know by now
Regarding the twist in this episode.
I remember a video talking about how Amon's bloodbending can take away another person's bending. In TLAB's lore, Waterbending healing arts use water to open up chakra points to accelerate healing. The Guru did say that chakra energy flows like water. So its theorized that Amon taps into a bender's chakra points using waterbending healing, then uses a combination of chi blocking and bloodbending to sever those Chakra links. Heck Amon does need to touch the back of the neck and forehead, which are chi points. Its all pretty complicated and the video done by Hello Future Me explains it a lot better.
A quick clarification, General Iroh is Zuko’s Grandson, Zuko had a daughter Izumi, and that is her son. Also I can’t wait till you guys get to season 3, the fights are nasty as hell and you are going to love them
General Iroh is actually Zuko's grandson. Zuko had a daughter only and she is now the firelord of the fire nation.
Iroh's grandfather is Zuko. His mother is Zuko's daughter. XD
Bro it's crazy I haven't been missing any one of y'all reactions for months now
In the world of Avatar, bending is controlled by the power of chi. It starts in the spine, then moves to forehead, then to the rest of the body, allowing benders to psychically control their native elements.
When Amon blood bends their foreheads, he is blocking their chakra flow, so they cannot use their bending.
aang had 3 children. tenzin, bumi, and kya (named after katara’s mother)
General Iroh is Zuko's grandson. Zuko had one daughter - the current firelord, Izumi
I never so a bloodbending as a cool thing I always thought that that it was cruel and brutal and this episode just confirms that it's not surprising that Katara declared this technique illegal
The sad irony is that both Amon and Tarrlok wound up following in their father's footsteps, anyway. Amon wants to destroy the Avatar, by ridding her and the world of bending. Tarrlok, on the other hand, wanted to take over Republic City, albeit through more legal means than Yakone.
Some people hated the twist, because it supposedly made Amon less threatening. On the contrary, it makes him more than a villain, but a relatable, fully-realized character.
Nah amon's potential was wasted,he could've been better than the current version we got of him
"What in the Pearl Harbor is going on here"
He says, in a video posted on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor getting attacked.
9:15 When you discover the whole plot of the first season and still can't discover that Iroh is zukko's grandson
„or maybe he's just sooo angry" 😂😂
Aang actually had 3 kids, Kaya, Bumi and Tenzing, Katara said that at the first episode if I'm not bad
I swear sheera has some prophetic abilities
When he said his grandfather would eespect it he meant by zuko
I know this is years too late but Amon is actually using blood bending combined with chi blocking he uses chi blocking to cut off their bending and then he uses blood bending to make it permanent notice how when he takes people's bending he puts his thumb in the center of their forehead which is where one of the most important chi points are
Says "What in the pearl harbor" on december 7th lmao its even better because this is pre recorded
5:21 Someone actually watched that cursed movie
Also, Aang had three children with Katara. Bumi (Nonbender), Kya (Waterbender), and Tenzin (Airbender).
General Iroh is Zuko's grandson. Iroh (dragon of the west) was Zuko's uncle and his son died so He can't be the grandfather.
in addition, I think that the way that Amon takes bending away is that he touches the chakra point in the middle of the forehead to damage or cut the chi path's, if you attack the chi path's you stop bending
