The songwriters for WoW deserve to be known worldwide. Outside of the pure musical structure and melody, they can just grasp the very mood and ambiance from lore and drawings. And uplift it all to perfection.
2:17 to 3:37 - This section is an actual masterpiece. The song is honestly borderline perfect for the story it's trying to tell the audience. The horns in the background represent town criers, alerting citizens of the pending doom, while the brighter trumpet signifies the fires being lit throughout the city as Arthas goes complete mad, all while the chorus sings to us the downfall of the human city and the once loved prince. Lastly, the string instruments represent Mal'Ganis's "pulling of the strings" in a more literal sense; that he is in control of Arthas's fate and has doomed him to the future of Lich King.
I dont think he went mad he literally had no other choice. I mean lets say Arthas sides with Uther, they now had a city of the dead to deal with that is openly hostile to Lordaeron and is likely the biggest city the undead took over. Arthas not only did the right thing morally he did the right thing tactically, he just let his emotions get the better of him and he should have stayed in Lordaeron to consult his father on what to do next.
@@krel3358 I won't argue with your point, because for something like this there is no right and wrong and that shit is fun af to debate but in no way was he morally right. I think it's fairer to say his morals were corrupted, in arthas' eyes the people he killed in Stratholme were already dead.
@@jarbles9915 Its not actually, the best comparison to make is wither to stay on course and drive into an oncoming group of people who are in the middle of the road when they arent supposed to be there or serve to the side and hit a single person compared to a group of 5 or so, some people say they couldn't make the decision and would just let go of the steering wheel but that is honestly just as bad as a person who decides to hit the 5 people still instead of the person on the sidewalk, indecision in a critical moment is just as bad as deciding to do the wrong thing. Arthas decided to stop the demons from gaining an army of probably around 25,000 zombies right in the middle of the lorderon heartland which likely would have stormed across the lands of lorderon and even sieged the capital itself, some may say there was no moral choice but I don't believe that, it was either try futilely to contain the undead and let tons of destruction happen or take action and prevent more loss, what arthas failed to do was to stop and let his actions sink in with the real weight of them.
The section before it as well (starting at 0:31), I think there's hardly another piece of music which tells my brain "you are now wandering into a forgotten fragment of the past" so well.
Every time I do this instance it's such a bittersweet feeling. This is my favorite dungeon in the entire game. This was one of my favorite heroics to run back in the Wrath days, especially if your group did the timed run for the Bronze Drake mount. It's a great emotional retelling of the first step of Arthas' fall to the dark side regardless, but it really maintains its pace if you try to race through it in the 25 minute time limit, because I think the purpose of the instance was to give players that sense of urgency, like time is running out - if you did the timed run you got that, because you had very little time to mana up between fights.
Pally Flash Heal ftw. I ran CoS in Lv 80 PvP gear because I didn't have anything else better and I could make it with little trouble. The Bronze Drake was my mount until I got the hippogriff from dailies in Cata.
Arthas.. The best part of Warcraft and WoW.. I'll always hear the words in my head, when Arthas stood in front of Stratholme and talked to Uther and his men.. I will never forget this.

I wish we could use the Dark Portal to arrive in the Alternate Universe Azeroth and find Lordaeron as it should be, only in the present time. I mean, an Azeroth without the plague (could not be delivered because we kill Ner'Zhul on Draenor) and King Arthas Menethil as the rightful king of the land. That would be awesome.
I agreed until I read Rise Of The Lich King. His WC3 campaign was incredible though, he did nothing wrong except overextending with his invasion of northrend where he had to rely on the cursed blade Stormbringer... I mean Mournblade... I mean Frostmourne
This was almost the best moment in WoW for me. The culling of Stratholme, Arthas' betrayal of the people he served, this was a theme that absolutely stood out in Warcraft 3 and WoW.
By the time he started killing the people of Stratholme, they were already infected and turning into the undead, what was he supposed to do? Let them all become zombies and reek havoc across Lordaeron just because he didn't want to get his hands dirty? There wasn't a cure available for the undead plague so he had no choice but to kill them in order to end their suffering and to setback the plans of the Scourge........
ryan macdonald This was an expertly laid Xanatos Gambit by the original Lich King. Heads he wins (Arthas dosen't kill his people, Lordaeron is overrun), Tails he still wins (Arthas kills the zombies and his own people, becomes a replacement Lich King.) The thing is, there would still be a replacement Lich King - it's hinted that Jaina would have become the Lich Queen had Arthas not gone through with the Culling of Stratholme.
Arthur and Lich king has always been my favourite lore from wow. all he wanted was to be righteous and protect his people and it was that faith that led to his downfall... and his inevitable corruption.. fitting he should be human too...
Brings back memories of my friends and I doing our Heroic dailies. Anything from 3 to 5 of us (had to pug sometimes). We'd be on vent, and at the start, when they're doing the dialog, I'd always imitate Jaina's "I'm sorry Arthas. I can't watch you do this." Timed run was HARD at first and then pretty soon, we'd get it easy, but no one would need the mount, so was just a fun quick run. And then later doing the achievement to get all the zombies to come attack us at once. (That one took quite a bit of planning and patience). All of it, such good times!!
During WW2 the British sometimes had advanced knowledge of combing bombraids due to having cracked the German enigma code and effective espionage but choose NOT to warn people. They made this decision not to hint the Germans to the fact that their codes have been cracked.
When we realized, now, at the 9.2... Everything will end with Lich king era (War 3+WOTLK), Mal'ganis is the last enemy we knew who's still alive since the first campaign of Warcraft 3 (Tichondrius is still alive i know), and now, at the Sepulcher, he will finally meet his final death after 20 years.
Tichondrius is (probably) canonically dead since he dies in the WoW: Legion 'Nighthold' raid, and then the events on Argus happen which probably means he does not revive again.
For those you wondering about the lyrics on the epic song that starts on 2:10 they are kinda like these: "Annona frumentum, effeci funestus, veneficus fatalis, ex fervor incendo"
and the translation of the words from various meanings on the net ..found out that they kinda go on like these....... '' anonna-(yearly) frumentum-(grain), effeci- (bring, cause) funestus-(disaster fatal), veneficus-(poisonous magical , sorcery) fatalis- (fate, destined, deadly) , fervor- (fever, boiling ) incendo-(burning,hot, blazing)''......... kinda describes what happened to stratholme from the plague :)
Could be the language "common" which every race speaks in Warcraft (mostly the Humans of course). As it was inspired by Latin, English and some other old dialects. Or is it actual Latin?
Keydiam i believe its Latin...if you want to look up a song that is written in common language look up O Thanagor( O King) ....Arthas and the Invicible (lich king mount) theme...At that song some parts and lines are latin but most of the song is fictional language...aka ''Common'' language of humans :) ...(however I believe that judging by the way the words are written and pronounced ,blizz borrowed from ancient nordic dialects )
Liked your comment, but no offense. The dungeons in WoD are the most fun i have ever had since WotLK. WoD in my personal opinion is the best expansion since BC and WotLK.
Solaxe S Oh the nostalgia argument. Never heard of this one before. I have completed all Wod dungfeons only once. Never looked back. Wod suicks. Garrison sucks. Abandon ship.
well if you enjoy human music you should visit my channel for a human music mix with a music video :) And never commented my channel like this but after I got dislikebotted for no reason.. I need some support.

Listening to the WoD music, as all we WoW players are atm, i thought the music was amazing, yet coming back to this i realize that blizz are masters in their craft.

I've never been in this instance. I've seen Stratholme in its current state of ruin, but didn't see it beforehand. The music is nice though. I'll have to go there sometime.
Arthas showed us all, the evil side of the Light, although we always thought the only evil was the shadow. His good deeds had reasonable consequences but yet, it was these good deeds which took all those innocent lives...
azure myst There is no "evil" light. As long as you belive your cause is righteous you can weird the Light. it's when you doubt your actions that the Light begins to fade. in fact, in the Rise of Lich King book, during the Culling of Stratholme Arthas start to realize the Light is not 100%. His mace glows dimmer.
i was so consumed by the lore of this place i spent hours in here for days at a time. the story is powerful. the music adds to the intensity of the story (enhances it) this really is a great chill place if you just wanna drift and daydream :) good for the creative mind
+Sylvanas Windrunner Well there's a questline in Icecrown that proves that the Light can only prevent someone from becoming undead when that someone is already dead, you can't cleanse the plague of the Scourge from a living being, but you can at least prevent it prevent it from becoming undead, which is basically what Arthas did. Not that I'm saying Arthas already knew that when he culled the city, but we could say he guessed it, because he purged the city knowing that it was the only way, or at least believing. (I'm a lore nerd if you didn't realize by now xD)
Great theme; really captures what is going on in this pivotal moment of WoW history. Forget for a moment about what a dumpster fire Blizzard might be now; from a purely game-making perspective, this was Blizzard at the top of their game. This is why I play TBC and will play WoTLKC
I remember doing this instance for the first time... I didn't know the lore/backstory. I didn't know what was coming. When I realized what has happening was I was half "holyshit Arthas this is so metal" and half "oh my god those poor villagers" and I was really sad for them. Then I was like WTF pixels on a screen giving me feels....
Oh lad... How I missed those endless days in Lordaeron, sharpening your skill with this dull blade. Forging you into a weapon meant to withstand the demands of a great destiny. Heh... You sure put them skills to use, didn't you lad? If only I'd been able to stop you that day, how different things migha' been. If only I'da never discovered that accursed blade. Farewell, Arthas, my brother.
"Brave words, unfortunately for you it won't end here. Your journey has just begun, young prince. Meet me in the arctic lands of Northrend, it is there that we shall settle the score between us. It is there that your true destiny, will unfold." "I will hunt you to ends of the earth if I have to, do you hear me? TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!"
2:15 this piece always gave me the feeling that each instrument represents part of the story. The discordant string represents the scourge plague, it's manic and imprecise, like a shambling zombie. It symbolises the plague already at work in the city The deep, constant horn is like marching feet, Arthas's men moving through the streets, house to house, sparing no one. Then there's the singing. The mornful wail, maybe sorrow for Arthas's fall from heroism. The latin lyrics referencing the tainted grain and how the "price" for it is life. In the end the music moves to just an ominous hum of impending doom. And the strings, because the scourge is still on the move
definitivamente una obra maestra de la blizzard de aquellos tiempos .... su música acordes a las zonas u ocasiones y las imágenes que daban ganas de saber que había en esas mazmorras u zonas

The thing is, there would still be a replacement Lich King - it's hinted that Jaina would have become the Lich Queen had Arthas not gone through with the Culling of Stratholme.
TheAsvarduilProject who gave you that "hint"?
***** The book, "Arthas".
Arthur and Lich king has always been my favourite lore from wow. all he wanted was to be righteous and protect his people and it was that faith that led to his downfall... and his inevitable corruption.. fitting he should be human too...
arthus** stupid autocorrect
I don't want to be that guy... I really don't... but...
Arthas*
+Honorable Judge haha I didn't even notice that it still autocorrected it!!! Arthas!!!!!! omg
Fully agree OP.
"I will hunt you to the ends of the earth Mal'ganis! to the ends of the earth!"
"Dude..we're on Azeroth..not earth.."
#flatAzeroth
ohh Arthas...
Who would win? One man willing to sacrifice an entire city in order to save his people, or one evil blade?
During WW2 the British sometimes had advanced knowledge of combing bombraids due to having cracked the German enigma code and effective espionage but choose NOT to warn people. They made this decision not to hint the Germans to the fact that their codes have been cracked.
Girls during the pandemic: Omg let’s stay inside and be safe!
Boys during the pandemic:
to bad they didnt add more timewalking dungeons about arthas like siege of dalaran for example
2:10 , Corona virus spreading
Arthas would have well known how to erradicate the coronavirus from our cities...
The starting part of the soundtrack very underrated . It's kinda giving me Diablo vibes .
The starting part is my favourite one
Am I the only person who knows this event from WC3 rather than WoW?
***** of course no, W3>WoW
+Guardsman Boris I cri evritiem
No bro.
+Guardsman Boris nope
+Guardsman Boris of course not my friend
Loved this dungeon, not like the ones we had now.
Liked your comment, but no offense. The dungeons in WoD are the most fun i have ever had since WotLK. WoD in my personal opinion is the best expansion since BC and WotLK.
gilgammesh1 so far, wod has proven to be total crap including the dungeons
***** wod is fantastic, change diaper you nostalgic cretin
Solaxe S Oh the nostalgia argument. Never heard of this one before. I have completed all Wod dungfeons only once. Never looked back. Wod suicks. Garrison sucks. Abandon ship.
sukiesoya But do you know this dungeon from back when it was 10-man? :P
The whole world in pandemic and someone starts coughing near you:
why humans always have the best music?
:O not even close
well if you enjoy human music you should visit my channel for a human music mix with a music video :) And never commented my channel like this but after I got dislikebotted for no reason.. I need some support.
daSkyyy Maybe you should stop being such a filthy beggar who advertises himself on other people's channels?
Solaxe S I know im sorry. but this was the only time i commented to check my channel and that was only cuz I got dislike botted. I think you would understand me better if you had made so much work for nothing. Anyways im sorry man. tbh that was my first and last time commenting my channel so Chill :D
Klein miranda Horde has Frostfire Ridge Theme. One of the best masterpieces in the game!
4:15 my favourite
ruclips.net/video/9ss1iQFrNus/видео.html hear at the end (1:57) =p
Listening to the WoD music, as all we WoW players are atm, i thought the music was amazing, yet coming back to this i realize that blizz are masters in their craft.
Lyrics:
Ennona frumentum. effeci funestus. veneficus fatalis. ex fervor incendo.
Ennona frumentum. effeci funestus. veneficus fatalis. ex fervor incendo.
(Latin, translated to:
"
Prince of Corn, the corn itself.
Disastrous effect. Deadly poisonous.
From the heat of fire
"
You're welcome)
0:00 Is so good, it really encapsulates the impending doom that is about to hit the peaceful forest and towns.
Where my Stratholme deniers at??!
Y’all need Elune.
The government can't tell me what to do...I'll eat as much grain as I want!
Ask The Gods.
The beginning could sound like it can go in Mother 3 when Flint's wife dies and Claus dies. That song would be fitting in the beginning.
This is when Arthas reached the turning point.... the point of no return. Arthas' humanity is eclipsed forever.
The Light does not equal good.
Very important distinction.
@@probablyanoldgod320 tell this to Yrel on alternate Draenor
@BeanMan157 the purging of stratholme is what should have happened to most of orc population on au draenor
@@justinpatterson3110 Based.
when will blizzard wake the fuck up and release wotlk official servers? private servers are successful as fuck. we be happy, they get money
If they will release WotLK servres, people won't buy new expansions. :) Blizzard will never do that
It's a shitty dungeon, but the music and narrative makes me love it.
I love this music...my favourite of all the soundtracks
Who from Warcraft 3 Reforge :)
i was so consumed by the lore of this place i spent hours in here for days at a time. the story is powerful. the music adds to the intensity of the story (enhances it) this really is a great chill place if you just wanna drift and daydream :) good for the creative mind
2:24
Well, slaying all people in the city wasn't a good idea. They should've at least try to cleanse it with 'the might of the Light".
Yes, but how many of you know every single line from the RP at the start 💔
"Glad you could make it, Uther."
The beginning part up until 2:08 is extremely nostalgic...
@buldren0101 Also, that other "soldier" seems to be wearing a Horde tabard and riding an odd looking mount; doesn't that look suspicious?
Glad you could bake it, Arthas.
Watch your tone with me, Arthas. You may be the Arthas, but I'm still your Arthas as a Arthas.
For the past 5 years, I've been listening to this before going for tests, midterms or exams
When you wake Up in wuhan during april 2020 and you see xin jin ping with one giant hammer and a army at the city entrance
This is beautiful.I wonder what kind of CoT dungeons you will see in the future.
thnx for this vid i've been looking for it for ages !!!!
Stratholme caught da ebolaids.
This was the single instance/moment in WoW that got me into the lore.
Damn it Uther, by my right of succession and the sovereignty of my crown , I order you to purge this city!
Chromie's Spotlight!
+Ponyj0 Yea its one of my favorite wow musique.
Arthas: Purge on Stratholme!!!
"there are good deeds only devils can commit"
Blizzard is so pro, they just make their own language.
I've been searching for the music at 2:25 for a while now since it's frequently in WinterStarcraft's vids.
Nice.
Arthas! You are hopelessly ountnumbered! Lay down Fros...
oh wait a sec wrong guy
"blech, why does Arthas move so damn slow!?"
"He has to maintain his [Aura of Awesome]"
"Brave words, unfortunately for you it won't end here. Your journey has just begun, young prince. Meet me in the arctic lands of Northrend, it is there that we shall settle the score between us. It is there that your true destiny, will unfold."
"I will hunt you to ends of the earth if I have to, do you hear me? TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH!"
Now that we're at it, I wonder if they'll add the theme for The Culling mission in WC3R.
Me too.. Well this is rather odd, it looks like my time machine has worked.
0:00 Ambient (Prelude)
2:09 Action (Knights of Lordaeron)
3:46 City falling to darkness (Intermission)
4:14 Heroes Engage (Arthas)
5:54 Action (Knights of Lordaeron)
7:30 Action (Knights of Lordaeron) - calmer
8:59 Dire Situation (Stratholme is doomed)
9:34 Aftermath
2:16 Walking to school first day
Doing this as daily heroic and then doing the vanilla, back to back. Epic and heartbreaking. Poor Timmy.
I think this might be the single greatest piece that Blizzard ever composed.
Arthas was in charge of taking care of corona in Stratholme
all of you can hate Arthas for what he did, but Arthas IS WOW...my king we will meet again in shadowlands( i hope)
💀
2:15 this piece always gave me the feeling that each instrument represents part of the story.
The discordant string represents the scourge plague, it's manic and imprecise, like a shambling zombie. It symbolises the plague already at work in the city
The deep, constant horn is like marching feet, Arthas's men moving through the streets, house to house, sparing no one.
Then there's the singing. The mornful wail, maybe sorrow for Arthas's fall from heroism. The latin lyrics referencing the tainted grain and how the "price" for it is life.
In the end the music moves to just an ominous hum of impending doom. And the strings, because the scourge is still on the move
Listen to the introduction in reverse mode : it's Lordaeron theme, and most of all, human theme.
Help! The prince has gone mad!
danm gotta love it
man I ran this dungeon WAY too many times...
+Dan Weathers dem bronze drakes
I love this music. the driving beat was perfect for this dungeon, I was one of my favorite dungeons ever, and the music really helped to set it apart.
definitivamente una obra maestra de la blizzard de aquellos tiempos .... su música acordes a las zonas u ocasiones y las imágenes que daban ganas de saber que había en esas mazmorras u zonas
Lyrics : 2:38
Annona frumentum
Effeci funestus
Veneficus fatalis
Ex fervor incendo
x2
The part at 00:30 is just creepy with how tragic and despair ridden it sounds. You know that nothing good is about to go happen when you hear it.
I always forget his name, but I mean Ner'Zhul.
