What's Feeding Your Spiritual Life?

  • Fr. Mark-Mary stresses how important prayer is to feeding your spiritual life. Studying the Faith can be good, but “If you know the teaching, but you don’t know the teacher you’re in trouble,” he says.
    Prayer is our daily bread.
In our technologically advanced society, there’s always something easier to do than prayer. We need to replace our daily scrolling with daily prayer.

As someone who loves knowledge and beauty and the wonder of Creation I highly recommend fasting from these things if you find yourself too attached to them. Where you can, stop before watching some video or playing a game that means alot to you and go pray for some time. You will feel drawn to the media, but resist and tell God that you are offering up this sacrifice for love of Him. You are saying, ' Lord, these things are good, even very good, but I love you more and choose to make this moment of my life forever a moment with you instead.'
And you will see that the desires will over time, be fitted into their proper place in your life and, they will not be a guilty pleasure, but a life-giving one.
And maybe bring these things into your prayers, look for people or events to pray on in RUclips videos, social media posts, news etc. Set aside some time at night to pray for those in need you encountered online. Use the connectivity of the Internet to reach your prayers to those who mighe not have any chance to receive prayers otherwise.
Think of the network of people that connected to a given video or site, game etc., and just take a few minutes before watching or playing etc., to pray for all those in its sphere of influence. Try these and others to knit God into your Internet life and where ever you may wander within Cyberspace.
We can sanctify cyberspace just as our ancestors sanctified nations and continents. Let us all work the fields for Our Lord, for the harvest is plentiful, but the workers few.
God bless all you who read this. With, the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and the Church, through Jesus Christ, Our One and Only Lord and Savior. Amen.
P.S. That does not replace regular time alone with God, do not allow it to. It is in addition to normal prayer, not in place of it.

Last year, on July 2nd, was the day that I started praying. I started slowly and basically without even realizing it, with a 30 day devotional called let nothing disturb you (which I was drawn to while in a Catholic store, completely out of the blue, by God). Since then not only has my prayer life grown ( I can't even fathom not praying for 30 min in the morning and in the evening now; I even have been trying to pray 2-4 rosaries a day as well lately) but the rest of my life has changed drastically and in ways I couldn't even have imagined. I was adamant about not going to college, then the next week I was enrolled and excited to; I told myself I didn't have time to read for fun even though I like to, and I have now read 15 books, most of them spiritual, since January. Most recently, God has given me the incredible gift of Rest which I have so needed for a while now. There are so many other amazing things God has given me this last year that I dont think I can even list them all, but one of the main things He has given me is a Love so true that it's hard to even imagine what my life was like before last July. And it all began with the short few seconds I prayed on July 2nd. The Lord is waiting for you and me to pray. Every time you feel the urge to pray it is because God is knocking on the door to your heart, patiently waiting for you to open it. Open it; even just the tiniest crack can flood your life with Light.

Amen. My parents were married ten times, I didn't meet my father until I was eighteen, except for briefly once when I was six years old. My Mom was way too busy for me, except when she was angry, then I was beaten. I forgive them, and I became a Catholic after my mom died. My Dad died 25 years later, he had joined AA and tried to make restitution with me. I believe my Mom made her peace with God and I talked to my Dad the night before his death, he said he trusted God and he was ready. Nine months after his death, I learned about Jesus being the real presence in the Holy Eucharist, and ever since then, for the past 28 years, I have gone to daily Mass when they have it in our town with only one Catholic Church. I have failed so many times as a Catholic, and yet my constant prayer, is "Jesus I Trust in You." I forgive my parents and I pray for them. I know they were part of God's plan. I love and trust in God and I am so grateful to be a Catholic.

I was a cradle Catholic. CCD was social time. I was born in 60, and so many people in my age group were not taught the faith. Many people I know are very good loving people, identify as Catholic yet never attend Mass. That about describes me. In my late 40 I suffered a horrible back injury, needing 3 back surgery/fusions. I was a single of 4 children without father involvement. And then I found myself bedridden. Deeply depressed I was searching for something when I came across a nun on tv. I started watching and learned so many things that I didn't know before. It was Mother Angelica on EWTN. Even though I had never prayed a Rosary or even touched one, I developed a devotion for Mary and the Rosary. That's when enormous miracles started to occur. To much to list here. One miracle was Our Lady of Fatima calling me to start a pro-life ministry in my liberal parish. It took me 2 years. Our 1st meeting was May 31, 2008. And this ministry is unbelievable. Many other miracles happened aswell.
But, the year or so something is wrong with me. I stay in bed, miss church, miss Rosary, procrastinate and feel fatigue and a little depressed. Fr. Mark and anyone whom is read this will you plz pray me. I'm unable to help myself. Thank you and God Bless you Father and all people who are watching your video.

Something that has been on my heart for awhile now. I mentioned to a group of friends that I was attempting to get back to praying always. Always, not for fifteen minutes or an hour but always. They looked at me and didn't believe it was possible. It is. God wants us to pray always, wherever we are whatever we are doing. • @SalveRegina8
      @SalveRegina8 5 лет назад +4

      From what I’ve heard/witnessed:
-Time carved out with, & for God during the day. A quiet time (maybe 15 mins) where you devote it to him. With your Bible, Rosary, Divine Mercy, singing to him, dancing with him, going on a walk, whatever that time is for you devoting it to/with Him. However the spirit moves you. It’s fun to change it up.
-Also, just being in constant communication with Him each day. “Thank you Jesus!” (When good and bad happen ie: Colossians 3:17)
Being in union with His Will. And accepting it. Keeping your antennas up for what He’s calling you to do, even if it’s as mundane as folding your son’s socks.
And just telling Him you love Him, even if you only do it once a day (I pray we all say more than that) BUT if we even say it once...
I read something Mother Angelica said the other day:
“It doesn’t make a difference how many people God loves; He loves you as if no one else existed.”
Can you imagine we in our daily lives just showing Him only a little if the same? It’s overwhelming to think about, & so beautiful!
Prayer is showing him we love Him. And love is immeasurable.
God bless you! (Sorry, tangent)! 😅🙏❤️🙏🔥

@ Alexis McCormick: For me, there is no definition for "enough or right". There are times when a silent "Thank you Lord" is enough for my soul, and there are times when, several times a day, even at work, I give different prayers in my thoughts, so that my soul is filled with peace and tranquility. Because for me, this thanksgiving to God fills my soul and shows me his presence.

For me personally, I try to live every moment of my life in and with The Lord. It goes without saying that I am not able to do that 100% of the time obviously (always room for improvement, right? ☺), but He is always on my mind and in my heart. And He knows my heart, just like He knows yours ...
... so, for me, it's more about being at peace and in right relationship with The Lord.
If either of those is lacking, I know I either need to spend more time in dedicated / intense prayer, contemplation, and / or confession.
Yet, dedicated One-on-one time with The Lord each day is still necessary either way. He is The Vine and we are the branches. Without Him, we can do nothing. He is like the very air we breathe.
May God bless your sweet heart and give you that peace which He alone can give. For, as St. Augustine said, "Thou hast made us for Thyself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it finds its rest in Thee" ...
      🕆📿❤🌹😊

I have/I’ve had the same problem. I’ve decided to commit 30 minutes of my time everyday for reading the Bible. I needed some kind of schedule to get me started. Now I have a plan and I know what to do.
During that time I focus only on God. There are no rules another than that. I can read 1 page and spend the rest of that time talking with God about it, or I can read more. The thing is, you can pray to God in many different ways. Not only by saying a specific prayer but also by reading His Word, discovering yourself through Him, or even watching a movie with friends and thanking Him for these amazing people and this time. I used to think that if I didn’t “pray enough” that day God will be angry, won’t love me anymore or won’t help me when I need it. As if I had to prove something to God that I deserve His love. I had to fight those feeling and pray so that God will take them away because at some point I realized that’s not God. He loves us at all times. Whether you pray for a minute or 2 hours a day. Prayer time is mostly for us to build a real relationship with our Father. He is Love.
When I realized that, it gave me so much freedom and joy in prayer. If you’re struggling with the amount of time you should spend on prayer I would recommend committing 15/30/45 minutes (or more, whatever you feel like you can do at the beginning) and spending this time with God doing something specific to give you structure. Whether it’s reading the Bible, praying the rosary or just talking to Him about your heart. 🙏🏼❤️

Let us pray for the desire of prayer, to step away and “be with” Our Father. Keep speaking encouraging words with great love and enthusiasm! That’s Holy Spirit led. Peace and Mother Mary is smiling🙏🏽

Usually I have been keeping up a daily life of prayer, and it is so essential! I might not even be here if not for prayer. But I do feel the Holy Spirit through this... this video. Just last night I was chatting with friends, and went to bed without having prayed. I felt almost guilty when I woke up this morning, but just after watching this I decided to pray...
Question: Do you guys know "how" to pray, I know that feeling.
I found that do be my greatest block. I never knew how to pray until early this year. I encourage you to look it up, how to pray.
Personally a good jumping off point is Mathew Kelly's Prayer Process.
    Graditude,
Examination of Continents, ("what was God calling me to do, where did I say Yes, where did I say No. Asking him to help me with where I said No, and thanking him for all the time I said Yes.")
    Iterssional prayer (praying for others)
    followed by an Our Father.
It is so simple, yet fullfilling, now after a year of that, I've found it has evolved, it is no longer just that process, but a meditation on God aswell.

God is working through your channel to minister to me. I have committed to beginning each day in prayer and meditation. I have been pretty faithful to the commitment.
Yesterday was a critical day in my career. I awoke at 5:15 AM, and immediately went to prayer and meditation, beginning with The Rosary, followed by contemplating the mass readings for the day, and reading about the Saint of the day. Arriving at a day-long board of directors workshop, I placed my Rosary on the desk next to me and gazed upon it many times throughout what could have been an emotionally tumultuous day for me. What resulted was a joyous day and professional fulfillment.
This morning I awoke at around 8:00 AM, went to my laptop and started viewing websites and social media outlets. Eventually I landed on RUclips. Noting a new video uploaded to Ascension Presents, I punched up this video. At about the 4:10 mark I heard you say that the way we receive our daily bread is through prayer. At the about the 4:35 mark you pointed out how we go to the Internet. At that moment, I paused the video, set aside my laptop, and picked up my rosary.
Thank you Fr. Mark-Mary! God most assuredly works through you and this ministry. Poco a poco!

God bless you Father! So timely. I really am glad you reminded me to cut back. So many distractions TV shows, movies that seem cooler than prayer. Yet I feel Jesus tugging, begging me to come to Him. I have to cut back. The Lord works and he loves us so much. May God bless you richly in your work.

Goodmorning Annamarie. I just read your very kind words of love and faith. And yes, I'd love to watch the video that you recommended.
And I wanted to thank all whom were so extremely kind towards my family and myself. Your prayers are very powerful. Words can't express how grateful I am for each of you. You are the true faithful and doing our Lords. This past weekend I met 2 sisters, 2 nieces and a 1st cousin. I was adopted, and my children bought me the Ancestry DNA kit. It was a true miracle and an enormous gift from God. Anyways, thank you all very much. And also to thank this Holy Priest.

Father, this is important stuff, it calls to mind a thought from yesterday that I may have lost - if not for this video. There is a(n?) YT channel called "daily dose of internet," how grand would it be in this age of endless scrolling, if the Vatican released something of this nature? Just little poignant nuggets of truth, goodness, and beauty that perhaps, more than just Catholics can appreciate (like soon to be Catholics!). I have a bigger idea, but, sadly no microphone... Perhaps my upcoming Confirmation will change things. God bless you, and all his other priests who have aided me in my return this year!

This is so timely for me. I had fallen into a pattern of repetitive, check-it-off prayers, and it was becoming harder and harder to do. Sadly, this had led to more scrolling and less praying. At first, making and keeping this commitment felt good-productive even, but it grew increasingly impersonal. I have a relatively long commute each day, and I am now using RUclips to help me grow in my relationship with God by listening to Bible studies or Daily Mass rather than more frivolous things. I am early into this shift, but already I feel better-more productive. I have found myself marveling at the consistency and genius of Christ. So many “Ah, ha” moments and stirrings in my heart. I recommend using such time in this manner...washing dishes, doing laundry, etc. There is always time for God.

How do I start praying? What should I pray? HELP! The only thing I know is the Our Father, Hail Mary and the rosary. I like the rosary however, I have a newborn baby and feel like it would be a little too long for us to pray together (my baby & I). I want to pray with him so he sees me and knows the importance. Please give me names of prayers and I can look them up. Thank you 🙏🏼

The idea of prayer as nourishment was effective to me. For so long, I’ve been taken with the idea of a strict prayer routine, and like starting a new diet, the routine can be difficult to adopt.
Lately I’ve just really felt hungry for prayer, and every day is different! Some days it’s the readings, other days I reflect on the Saints. Nearly every day I find myself saying the rosary along with a video. Just like I don’t eat exactly the same foods every day, I don’t always pray the same way every day.
It changed a few practical habits as well, because I thirst for that prayer, so I now go through my day equipped to pray when I have a moment (like when you know you’ll need a snack later, so you pack a healthy protein bar so you don’t buy junk). I keep the readings with me, I have an app on my phone. If I have a spare moment, I’m less likely to turn to my “feed”. It just doesn’t feed me anymore.
    Thank you for this wisdom.

I have a question, iv always wondered this. First, when I was a kid our parish priest would very openly smoke cigarettes. He would have dinner at our friends house and would drink beer. My question is, do some priest smoke pot? Now that it is becoming legal. I find myself praying deeper. And feeling God easier after smoking pot. I mean no disrespect with this question. I just wondered about it.

Challenge #2 for all those who have met the challenge and pray every day. Go into your parish and collect some folks one at a time to pray with, in person or separately. Maybe come together each week, after mass, on a night at your home and share what God is doing in your prayer. Start small, maybe one or two people. Even if you are a terrified introvert. It is just so so cool!

My priest told me once that spiritual reading is good, but the most important thing is prayer. I didn't understand at first, but focused on prayer as my number one spiritual exercise and used godly study as my second. Many people look for prayer to chnage your life, when in reality it changes you from within.
