How to REALLY Pray the Rosary

  • Fr. Mark-Mary discusses how to really pray the Rosary and go deeper than the external mechanics. Primarily it’s about relationship and not simply recitation. Fr. Mark-Mary explains three aspects of the Rosary on which we can contemplate:
    The person of Jesus Christ
The words of the prayers, which are Scriptural
The Mysteries, which cover the whole life of Jesus.
There is so much to be found in this beautiful prayer, but its beauty can easily be overlooked. As Pope St. Paul VI said:
“Without contemplation the Rosary is just a body without a soul.”
It does no good to pray the Rosary while your mind and heart are somewhere different. If you’re new to praying the Rosary or have struggled to pray it, maybe just read one of the mysteries in Scripture and pray three Hail Marys. Fall in love with the Rosary little by little if that’s what it takes.
Fr. Mark-Mary is talking about the Rosary all October. Stay tuned for more videos on this powerful prayer.

I’m a lifelong Protestant. I didn’t start believing in any sort of offering of prayers to Mary until I had the worst toothache I’ve ever experienced. The worst part of it was that I had a trip planned for my grandmother’s 100th birthday. I couldn’t afford to do both, as my budget was just that tight.
I started saying Hail Marys, and guess what? It almost felt like magic the depth of peace and strength I felt wash over me. I went on the trip, in an intense amount of pain. I also found a way to get the dental work done in a timeframe that actually worked for my needs.
I’m not saying that I say Hail Marys every day or anything, but I definitely have learned a different perspective than the one that I grew up with. It was a really eye opening experience for me, for sure.
I also quite recently started learning how to pray with a rosary. I’m very definitely struggling with the mechanics of it, and I sometimes get the prayers in the wrong order. I try not to overthink it though, and I remember that God cares much more about the intentions of my heart than he does about whether or not I can remember “O My Jesus” every decade.
Poco a poco, voy a llegar!

    • @jamesjeson556
      @jamesjeson556 5 лет назад +46

      Fabio Tuan
Unbiblical? The decades of the Rosary contemplates events in the life of Christ. His suffering, birth, resurrection, ascension. The prayers are the OUR FATHER, don't think you object to that, the GLORY BE to the trinity, and the HAIL MARY. The first part of the HAIL MARY is virtually the Bible book of Luke chapter 1.
verse 28, Hail full of grace. The Lord is with you.
verse 42, Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
The second half is asking Mary to pray to Jesus for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. We can and do pray for our loved ones, even the unloved.
I'll take all the help I can get. The Rosary isn't a vain repetition like OHM OHM of Hinduism but centered on our God.

When I pray the rosary I begin by asking the Holy Spirit to guide me and then I imagine walking with Our Lady through the life of her son. For instance, in the agony of the garden I sit myself down next to our Lord, put my arm around him and try to just be there for him. At the birth of our Lord, I take in all that is going on....the Angel's in Heaven sneaking in a peek....and so on. I let the Holy Spirit and the Blessed reveal to me whatever they want me to see. Sometimes you don't want to leave a particular event. It becomes a real encounter with God. It reminds me of when I was young and sat next to my grandmother. We would look through the pictures and she would tell me stories of each picture and the people in them. Some times she would focus on a different aspect of the picture. Hope this helps anyone trying to go deeper. God bless.

Tom Jenkins yes Mary is human and a woman. She is also the Mother of Jesus who is God, the spouse of the Holy Spirit ( since she conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit) and the beloved daughter of God the Father. Jesus could have come into the world without the help of a mere human but God the Father in his infinite wisdom chose a mere woman to be part of human salvation. Pretty amazing I would say, chosen by God the Father himself. And Jesus on the cross gave her to us when he said to John the apostle “ behold your Mother”. John represents all of us. The Blessed Mother is our spiritual Mother since Jesus is our brother.

Tom, don't know where you get your information, but for the record, we do not worship Mary, we worship God. But we do honor Mary, blessed mother of God. Use a dictionary & look up the meaning of worship & the meaning of honor. This may give you some clarity. As well we do not worship statues, another misconception of many non Catholics. Mary is the true mother of God, because Jesus lived in her body till birth, it is correct to say she IS not only the Immaculate conception, but also the Holy Temple of God!!! Please help yourself by learning more about Mary, Mother of God & you will be well on your way to appreciating what God gave us, his Holy Mother. Read Elizabeth's greeting when Mary came to visit her. In God's divine plan He gave us Mary. Ignoring this gift is to ignore God's gift to mankind.

@Ignatius The life and mysterys of Christ is not a novelty. The Baptism of Jesus, The Wedding feast of Cana, the Proclamation of the Kingdom, The Transfiguration, The Institution of the Holy Eucharist. These are not novelty its scriptural. Don't do them if you don't want too, but to do all 20 mysteries brings me through the whole life of Christ, it has brought many blessings and much more understanding. They tied it all together.

@Ignatius There seems to be lots pressure to "try something new" (Luminous Mysteries, knock-off meditative chants) to recapture the fallen-Faithful within our modern society. Centuries pass, but the Rosary remains... Popes come and go, but the Rosary remains.

I'm new to the family, and when i first started praying rosary i got no idea what it was about! I just recited until i learned the prayers, then i started asking our Lady, how to pray deeper how should i do this. Then what i started doing is imagining in my mind that i am with our Lady during each mystery and that i am seeing our Lord through her eyes and asking her to pray for me, to grow in my prayer life and asking her to pray for my family/friends/the departed ones/my diocese/the whole world then i would recite 10 Hail Mary's etc. It takes me a little longer to do the whole Rosary, but it so much worth it. I love just sitting there and having a mental prayer/conversation with our Holy Mother. Anyways, hope this is helpful for someone. 🙏❤️

This video answered some questions I had about where my thoughts should be focused during the recitations. Also encourages me NOT to be discouraged when I occasionally find myself thinking about what I need to make for dinner in the middle of a Hail Mary! Just gently redirect my thoughts and keep going. I recently completed the 6 first Saturday devotion Our lady asked us to fulfil at Fatima. She asked us to accompany her and meditate on the mysteries for 20 min. Was difficult at first, but when you go through them, really delving deep, reflecting on the details, it is truly moving. I cried a few times thinking of Our Lords passion, and really feeling compassion, and sorrow for my sins. Thinking how humble, yet powerful the story of our salvation played out. And how the mysteries can be, and are present to us now. Significant and relevant to each and every one of us. Because the story is for your sake, and mine.

I am so glad to hear your comments on the Rosary. I am a 67 year old cradle Catholic and I simply could not say the Rosary most of my life.
When I read that St. Therese, the little flower, also could not say the Rosary, I was cheered a bit. It upset her very much, because she had a great devotion to Our Blessed Mother, as did I.
I could not figure out how I could say the words of the Rosary at the same time as meditating on the Mysteries.
At church, the people saying the Rosary out loud, say after Daily Morning Mass, would say it so quickly,
I felt like I might as well have been reciting the alphabet. I could never say it like that, so I just left.
If I tried to pray the Rosary by myself, it was a 2 hour extravaganza, as I would try to meditate and say each prayer with meaning. And I had little children, so I just gave up. That was why I was so happy to find out that a SAINT could not say the Rosary!!
Then I found the Kate and Mike Crusade and said the Rosary with them. What a difference!
They say the prayers but have a small meditation on each bead. I truly believe that if St. Therese had had such a resource, she too, would have been able to say the Rosary.
It certainly made me feel much better to find out that Pope Paul XI said something like saying the Rosary badly could be worse than not saying it at all.
Remembering the incredibly fast recitation of the people after Mass, and me just leaving because it seemed pointless was actually the right thing to do. ( Always felt guilty, but it just seemed useless)
    Thanks Fr. Mark
    And God bless you.

It is nice to hear the young ones these days going back to prayer,..... i remember back in 1970, i was going through a very bad time with panic attacks, i didn't know to handle them, all i was told that i needed medication and counseling, i even went to my local chapel at the time and asked a the priest for some hope, but all that i was told was seek medical advice......
later in 1987 i was still suffering panic attacks, i was with my x wife at the local town, and i saw a catholic shop that sold all kinds of books and rosaries and medals, i felt drawn to go in and look around, i went to the back of the shop, and i saw these books on Mother Mary, small books with Mary on the cover, something made me pick it up and look at the front and back cover, and i had a very strong feeling to buy this book, then i saw a blue rosary near by and my eyes was drawn to them, i bought them that day and did some other shopping that day before returning home....
that night after a meal, i went up to my room as i knew a panic attack was coming on and i didn't want my children seeing me in that panic state of shaking and trembling and being breathless of being choked......as i sat there on the bed, i opened the book of Mother Mary and read through each page as i was having my panic attack... and as i read the book i was asking my self deep inside if you are true Mother Mary, please help me and forgive my sins of my past.... i wasn't a practicing catholic at the time due to some things in my teenage years as boys at that age know..... any way i read the little blue book on Mother Mary and it spoke of praying the rosary and how to do the complete rosary in steps... so i started to do the rosary to Mother Mary that night....at first i felt nothing much... a little pace came into me... but many weeks later....one night i was sitting up in bed as i do when i go to bed.. due to panic attacks... i just lay there as my wife fallen asleep and our kids are in the other rooms... all of a sudden...this glow came into our room....and it lit up all the room....and my eyes saw Mother Mary standing at the base of my bed.... she had the most wonderful smile i have ever seen in my life... she was the most beautiful woman i have ever met.... and i knew from that moment who she was...Mother Mary the devoted Mother to Jesus Her Beloved Son....i turned to my wife who was sleeping at the time and that i know she is a lite sleeper in all the years i have known her... so i shook her hard to wake her up and she never stirred... i shook her again and again and no response... Mother Mary said "Do not worry for your wife is in a deep slumber and no harm has become her.... so i called out to my children in the next rooms... no one of them came through...Mother Mary said "They too are in a deep slumber also and no harm has come to them".... i said to Mother Mary... why have you come to me... for i am a sinner and done much wrong in my life, many good people have gone to chapel and churches every week without fail and they are more deserving than me to see you...Mother Mary smiled at me and said...My Dear son...do you not understand that what you hold deep inside you is more dear that why is outside you, i know your heart better than you do, since when you where child you believed in my Son Jesus you held that close to your heart....a prayer with true heart and loving towards my Son is very important...many lack that in them, their hearts are stone and seek material things of this world they see the image of the Sacred Heart but they do not come in a true heart...first they must repent all their sins and forgive those who have sinned against them and truly mean that from a true heart for that is more important....Mother Mary spoke to me on many things that night and it was so very loving to see her for real and not just an image in the chapel when i was a young lad....Mother Mary parting words to me was "My Dear Son I Am Your Mother Now and Who Ever You Touch They Shall Know" and also said " Be not concerned of the flesh for that is here on earth for a short time, but be concerned of the soul for that is eternal and lives for ever....and just at that point Mother Mary raised her hands towards me and smiled...then light came out from Her heart and hands and came flowing over to me in my bed, and floods of tears came down my cheeks like a river....i have never in all my life felt a love like that ever as long as breath in this world, is was a live of a mother love for her first born child but a million times fold or more but words alone can not express it nor can understand the true meaning of Heavenly love....i have tried explaining to many people over a 36yrs now of that visitation of Mother Mary to me that night... it did not go down to well with many... i was called crazy, not all there and needed medical help and even someone of the cloth said the same thing.. i have been to see many different councilors in my early years but they could not give any advice on the matter... all i know that night back in 1987 was so very true and real...i will never let it go from me ever...i will say to anyone who reads this message...be of a true heart and soul for the Lord Jesus, you cant hide from His truth and He will know if you speak the truth of Him...for you are a child of the God love Him with a true heart and forgive those who have hurt you in the past and repent for all that you have done since your childhood till now, please do not hold back anything or you will hold back Grace and forgiveness...bless you Dear Ones....

So before I ever attended a Mass (mid-Aug 2020) a co-worker had a rosary blessed & gave it to me, with a instruction on how to use it. I was clueless & it was hard to work with. But then I found a video on YT of Fr John Gabriel who sings the rosary from start to finish. Now I do it every day at 3pm for Jesus, then at 4pm for Mother Mary through Kevin Nester' Rosary Crew on YT. I'm enjoying it now, because as I go through the rosary I think of what Christ has done & is doing for me, & how I fall short of any mercy or grace, yet God & Christ give it to us in overwhelming endless loving amounts. The depths of that love is mind-boggling, but I love the rosary now & it can only get better. It is a struggle sometimes to remain focused, but I understand the need to, to not be a 'mindless zombie' reciting. Feeling and exploring the mysteries is interesting & enlightening. Thank you for your tips, they are appreciated.

Father Mark, please encourage also our brothers and sisters in Christ to have a devotion to the “Sacred Heart of Jesus” to go to mass every first friday of the month and pray for 9 days the Sacred Heart of Jesus prayers. I started to have a devotion of the Sacred Heart of Jesus since this March 2019, I bought early last year the prayer book but I didn’t pray, I put only in the shelf beside the statue of our Lady of Lourdes that I have in my little altar. One night last year I had a dreamt that I was kneeling, clasping my hand praying to the Blessed Virgin Mary and suddenly man appeared in Mary’s side, I look up fixedly to him but he didn’t say anything, when I woke up in the morning I knew that it was Jesus who appeared in my dreamt. Every day I tried to remember which pictures of Jesus that has a similarity in my dreamt, finally I find it the answer, it was the Novena of the Sacred of Jesus picture, so I started this year to have a devotion to The Sacred Heart of Jesus. I think God He reminds me not just to put in the shelf the prayer book but to pray to his Sacred Heart.

Cari God does things like that. Give it a pray for a few days. See what happens. Internally it will bring you closer to Jesus through Mary. Externally it is a sword that cuts down demons and scatters the world of the Devil.
Yes the Rosary makes you the Doom Marine.

Side less I know that is true. I can tell God is trying to tell me something. No kidding. But I sort of don’t have time to pray the rosary so I just say a decade when waiting for the bus..

    • @sideless6706
      @sideless6706 5 лет назад

@@caribaez5711 A decade is better then nothing. There are methods to help you get to a full 5 decades or even 15 decades in a day.
Think of it like weightlifting or training if you are a novice or just really getting serious about prayer of course you can't be expected outside of the grace of God to pray 3 complete Rosary in a day or 45 decades like St. Padre Pio.
Start with praying 1 decade every single day for 1 week then add a decade every week after to that after 5 weeks you are praying 5 decades in a day. Then do the same another 5 weeks going up to 10, and then to 15.
I am personally working on praying 1 decade a day for a month then moving up to 3 every day for a month and then 6 and so on until I reach 15.
      tl;dr Stick with it.

I pray the Rosary everyday but lately I've felt like I was just going through the motions and easily distracted. It bothered me that I wasn't building a relationship like I should be to the point that I would apologise to Mother Mary after some of them or ask for help to pray it before I began. I knew my focus was off and I'm so glad I was led to these videos on the Rosary in order to better my "form". Thank you Fr. Mark Mary and Ascension Presents.

After watching this video, I realized it was not really okay for me to pray the rosary while doing the dishes, taking a bath, and riding my bicycle to and from work, as my mind is not present on the mysteries, but on passing the time while I'm doing other things. I hope I can enter that meditative mood that Fr. Mary talked about!

I do pray the rosary when I am driving. I am able to meditate a biblical event or verse with each bead while driving. I don’t even have to count as I know each scene in sequence. But of course, nothing beats saying the rosary with my members of the Legion of Mary or other brothers and sisters. I actually prefer not to lead. To me the rosary is my bible as it was in medieval times.

Its so true, the level of contemplation when in a quiet, adorative, private state is awesome. However, some people's state-of-life gives them no chance to have some time aside. But, I see GOD giving them a special grace to meditate and connect with him in between those activities. It because He is a loving FATHER, He knows the state He has put you in and since He wants you to connect with HIM, He will help you. Ofcource if He knows you can get the time to do private meditation and you refuse to, He won't give you that special grace. *My thoughts

The repetitive nature of the Rosary draws my mind away from myself and my distractions into the life of
Christ and the grace of the
Virgin Mary. I know the Rosary prayer is working when I get lost in it, am surprised and a little sorry when it's over, despite knowing that the silence that follows will be a time of quiet and personal prayer, having been brought, in a way, before the Lord through the Rosary.

I have made a decision to focus my life on the church; attend regularly (even 3 or 4 times a week when churches are in session), say my rosary a few times every day, read the Bible and other Christian literature, perhaps watch some RUclips videos periodically. And so, I looked up Rosary to do my first rosaries . I found your video, I’ve seen about half of it, and now I know I’ll be following you.

I love the rosary! I always feel so blessed to to pray and meditate on the mysteries. I kinda enter a trance, I’m now in another time, in Jesus’ time. It has made me fall in love deeper with Jesus. It always reminds me that indeed Jesus walked this earth. The Bible isn’t just a big far fetched book. It’s real. The best way I’ve learnt is to read, know and miditate on your Bible. Read and understand, constantly praying the rosary, helps me meditate on the Bible.

Every Catholic needs to have the hallow app!! There are so many wonderful prayers, meditations, readings, and music. One being the scriptural rosary narrated by Jonathan roumie (Jesus in the chosen) it’s wonderful! Keeps you focused on the mysteries and the scripture all at the same time. No Catholic should be without it!!!
