Dear Melissa, I have such admiration for the aspects of plant care you bring to your green beauties. Technical , observant, reflective, and kind. The best plant physical therapist, any could ask for. Way to contribute to the plant community.🌱

Aw oh no I don’t know why that happens sometimes 😢 I posted later in the evening this time I wonder if that had anything to do with it. It’s so strange!
Thank you! 🙏🏼 that’s a new leaf! Mine seems to flower a lot too… I wonder if that is common for Clari’s 🤔 I’ve had mine growing in my cabinet for a while and it loves it in there.

Hi Melissa the ring is used as a handle by using both hands to lift, it is very strong meant for lifting. ❤❤ I have had no problems at all with the ring not breaking. Absolutely loved the video Melissa. thank you for all you do. ❤❤❤❤
Today is a very rainy and gloomy day in Sydney so this plant chores video was just the ticket. Thank you Melissa! Your videos always brighten my day 🥰🫶
I never knew that a leaf splint was possible until watching this video. Yup, Plantologist Extraordinaire for sure. Thanks for teaching mere mortals like myself.
Air biscuits 😂 Our big, black and white cat will be 3 years old in March and he kneads and purrs so loudly. He's a big baby too. His name is Touya. And this cat weighs 12 pounds. He's a big cat.
😂 aww still a baby! 12 lbs is a good size! I think chai is 10 something. Our neighbors have Maine coons and they are 25 pounds 😄 soo much floof I love them.
Loving silica. Started as foliar feed now adding to my water not as much as label states maybe not quite half the dose. Loving how much new growth and rich color my leaves are putting out. Also I love foliage pro. I have also been adding a few drops of cal mag as well. All of my plants are now in pon and I'm loving it
That’s awesome!! I’m so glad I tried pon. I still have a lot to learn 😂 I was wondering about cal mag and if I need to use it with foliage pro. I bought some ages ago but haven’t looked into using it yet. Do you notice any differences at all? I’m excited to see if I notice changes with the silica! ☺️
@@plantsbymelissa so I have well water and my marantas will literally die overnight I've tried everything The only thing that has worked for me is I bought a zero water filter it takes my pH from an eight to a six and it takes out everything so then I add in silica cal mag and then I use foliage pro so I just do a few drops of each right now probably will have to up it come summer when they really start growing but I haven't noticed any decline and I'm so excited that my Marantas are loving the zero water filtered water because it was getting so expensive to buy distilled for my plants all the time so very excited about that so yeah I'm not sure about the difference between cal mag and silica but I have just noticed really nice stuff with putting them both in the water they just my plants are looking good the color is just like popping everything's just looking really good now. I didn't realize because of my well water having so many minerals and being so alkaline that so many of my plants were declining and I never could understand why until I started doing the whole pH thing.
Hi, Melissa, you can use the jar of lechusa, the top part goes up and then grab it with both hands, because it slides out, it is very easy to take it out.
Watched this while making/assembling my first ever batch of moss poles. Felt like I had company while doing plant chores ☺️Really love your videos 🫶🏼 Keep going! You’re amazing!!!
I love this kind of videos with you ❤ I get so many tips and tricks. And WOW! I am so happy for you and that someone gifted you a Palidiflorum! 😍😍😍🤗 So sweet and kind of her 😊😊 I bought a baby Palidiflorum as a rescue newly. It doesn't seem to grow 🤔 the stem was so long under the sumstrate, with small roots and no leafs. Strange.. I hope you update us more on that plant ❤
Thanks so much for this video! Love all the info 😊 just wanted to give you a heads up re: ring on planter…you use it as a handle to lift your inner liner out. I’ve seen LeafyDiva do it with hers. She uses mainly Lechuza planters and swears by them. I’m going to actually order my first one for my Clarinervium (my first and only Anthurium). I find that my Alocasia roots do fine in the reservoir as long as I let it get reasonably low so they have access to oxygen intermittently. The odd root will die occasionally, which is natural. I never smell any rot and the plants don’t seem to care. That happens in soil too but you often don’t realise because it just breaks down into the soil.
I feel like I want to move my frydeks to pon and a self watering pot now.. yours look happy and amazing! Mine are really struggling right now. Thanks for the inspiration 💚
I'm sorry yours are struggling 🥹 pon has been so amazing lately. I'm glad I tried it. I still have a lot to learn and understand but once I feel more confident I'll share more of what's helped me and how I care for them!
@@plantsbymelissa i had my OG frydek in pon and she loved it! Recently switched her to soil and every leaf died off 🤦🏻♀️ my bad.. hello Ms Melissa. @45:00 Just wanted to share with you - so, I had a couple of protruding leaf petioles from my philodendron FloGho that got bent by accident (and I feel like it's a pretty common yet super stressful snafu, esp during repot sesh). And so i thought of a very simple splint hack that really worked dsarnnn gooood------- the fix: a regular plastic DRNK STRAW🥤 . (preferably a clear one). Happy Splinting! lol 😎
I’ve used these orange juice jugs for water and what I found was that the paper/foil seal wears out over time so they will all leak eventually. I just replace them when they start to leak!
Your Mickey Mouse looks good! The one I ordered a while back off planterina instantly rotted. I’m happy for you and yours! Also, what a nice pallidiflorum gift!
The Canadian Gardner said that silica product is great for plants. And another creator from Canada said she is finding monstera Thais now for $20 in 4” pot
Hi! With the corms in the fluval in the little “greenhouses”, I recently tried it out but they started to grow fuzzy stuff on top, how do I stop that? I even opened the little vent things on top. Thank you so much!! 😊 love your channel!!
HI Melissa. I just wanted to tell you how I have made splints for my plants. I just use a plastic straw. Cut it down one side and slip that over the area I am trying to splint. It has worked like a charm!! I totally see the Nurse in you though!! So cute. I am a nurse too. I enjoy watching you do something else you love. I am sure your patients miss you terribly!!! I can tell by how hard it is to destroy a plant, that you were such a caring, concerned and very educated Nurse. The Nursing community is sad to loose you. But if anyone understands, it’s another Nurse!!! My daughter just graduated from Nursing school and just passed her NCLEX boards. I am so excited for her. Although it’s a tough job, I loved it with all my heart. I am retired for about 4 years now. I did it for 25 years loved it so much. Anyway, back to the straw splint. If a limb has been bent and floppy or has a wound of some kind, I will put some Cinnamon on the damaged area and put a straw 2-5 inches (depends on the plant and size of the stem and leaf, and how much support it needs). I had a monstera stem get bumped by my cat 🐱 and it just had a new leaf! I was sick 😡 (ok, mad). So I did this trick and checked it about 4 weeks later. The straw was holding it up and it looked fine, so I didn’t take the straw off for about a month. She I did, I have to be honest-i was shocked, it really had healed the bend and was able to hold its self up after that. I do it all the time now is a stem needs a little help. It’s fast and easy and effective. Love your video’s! So informative and honest and raw. I like that. Like opening the video with the thrips Anthurium. I would have been equally as mad. So it was good to see the honesty. We appreciate that. By t he way, it made my day to hear Chai (I think that’s who it was) purring when you picked him up. AWH!!! Purring kitties are my kryptonite! The melt me down fast! Thanks again, can’t wait to try PON. When I can save a little (a LOT) of 💵!
@plantsbymelissa when it comes to watering the self watering pots with pon, do you fill up the reservoir all the time until the indicator says full or do you fill up halfway? I'm curious to know how you handle the water with self watering pots. I know they say we should let a day or two go by without water but does that also apply to pon/hydroponics? Curious to know how other plant parents handle their self watering pots. Appreciate the feedback & thank you for an hour long video 📷😊🙏🏽🌿
I’m trying to still figure that out in a way. I try to just water over the top for the first few weeks but I leave some water in the reservoir too because I don’t want it to go dry before I notice again. It seems to be working well so far. As the plant grows more roots I’ll fill it up more. I know there’s supposed to be a dry period but I don’t really follow that.
I love your Frydek, I have some baby ones. And you have inspired my to get a micholitziana, which I don’t have. I have one question: what kind of pot do you have your smaller green one in? It’s the perfect size.
Can you put the brush you used on the inflow in the foil also and just use that when applying to what you choose to cross with? Or is there enough pollen without saving the brush? I also am having trouble with my poles falling over even though I am sure I have potted them according to what you do. Any suggetions?
I ordered a Cissus discolor plant from Etsy. My first online purchase ever of a plant! Anyway it got here on the 4th day. It looked good coming out of the box. The next day it was completely wilted! 🥀 has that happened to you and what did u do?
I like the water pitchers you are using with the orange tops. I looked on your Amazon Page, but couldn't find them. Where did you get them? I need a new water pitcher for my plants. Thanks!
All of my plants got rot 😢 I managed to save some, but they are ALL in water. Now I'm dealing with thrips 😮😢 What do you suggest to keep them full of the nutrients they need once they get better. I'm ordering beneficial bugs. Please advise if you have time. I'm new to plants so
I’m so sorry that happened to you. Thrips are another nightmare 😭 I honestly would probably leave them in water until the thrips disappear so they can’t potentially lay eggs in any soil. Once you have some roots growing you can gently fertilize them in water with a liquid feed. Since I am still very new with liquid fertilizer I’m still trying to figure out how much and often to feed some of my own plants. I just switched to foliage pro and I never used it before. I’m feeding weekly right now but I overdid it with some plants and underfed some others 😂 I would hose the leaves off with water to knock the thrips off and check every 2-3 days as more can hatch out of the plant leaves and stems. Isolate affected ones in a separate area. The adults can fly around to nearby plants. Hoping they’re gone for you soon and all your plants can make a comeback for you 🥹💕
54:54 ❤ what a sweet boy. I have a bottle of silica but I haven't used it yet. I don't know how to use it? Some people use it as a mix in with water and sometimes directly on the leaves?
Hi Melissa, I’m interested in the Ikea pot you love that fits your 6” clear pot. Could you tell me the size of that pot or the name of it. I would like to order some. Thanks! You are such a good plant mommy; can’t wait to order plants from you when your ready to ship.
You mentioned your moss poles being top heavy. I epoxied my ceramic pot to a large terracotta saucer then painted. Looks ok. Let’s me keep them mobile which is important to me. My 7 foot poles have no where near the foliage as yours though. Just an idea.
Yeah the pothos are really getting top heavy. Adansonii is now too. I definitely need more support at the base I think but not sure what to do. I have never epoxied anything before 🫣
Great video again 🙂 I wanted to ask you if you had experience with BTI against fungus knats? Ive been using it for weeks now and i dont really see a difference...
Thank you! 🙏🏼 I used to use BTI (mosquito dunks) it helped but it never took care of the problem and I was super strict with using it. I see the drops being pushed more but it’s not going to be any more effective and it’s just a money grab. I use nematodes now every 3-4 months and I water them in once. They’re beneficial microscopic worms that will hunt down larvae in the soil. They’re great for thrips larvae too. I have a whole video on them. I will never go back and they’re a literal life saver. You have to order them from somewhere that sells beneficial insects. I get mine from natures good guys. I buy the SF nematodes specifically. If you have a DMV chapter near you - you can look there or evergreen growing supply is another place.
Make sure to stay away from poor quality soils too - most of them are filled with gnat larvae so you’ll have a problem every time you repot. One adult gnat can lay 200 eggs. Use yellow stick traps to catch as many adults as you can and allow nematodes to work for a few weeks. They’ll eventually disappear. Quarantine new plants as well.
Ginormous corm! 19:55 did those clear pot/cup pairs come together? Or did you just find things that fit well? I saw that rePotme has a 6-pack that's more cost effective. The listing is titled "rePotme 6 inch Orchid Pot - Slotted Clear Orchid Pots - 6 Pack". I'm assuming it's the same pots as the 3-pack, as I haven't tried them myself. For the randomness in a long video, those chapters are amazing. I wish all channels would be as organized as you. On the topic of randomness, assuming your viewers watched all the way through, in the past day they accumulated 8 months straight of watch time
ah thank you! I'll have to order those to stock up on them. I go through the 6 inch pot size quickly. The little clear pots are the repot me ones in a 3 inch size and the other pot I happened to have and got lucky that they fit well lol. I think I got them from target for like a $1. I appreciate it! I love adding the chapters to help anyone that wants to refer back or skip around. It takes more time to add those but it's helpful and I appreciate those that add it too! 🥰
I linked a pollination video in the description 😃 it’s basically how you’re able to grow your own seedlings. Each inflorescence goes through a female phase and then a male phase. The stigmatic fluid or liquid drops you see first so that is the receptive or female phase so all you need is pollen from another anthurium that can cross with it and you just rub the pollen on the inflorescence at that time and if it worked - then you’ll get some berries in some time and you can germinate the seeds from them. If you don’t want to try and grow different crosses or want a bunch of seedlings then you can just cut them off if you want. If you don’t pollinate them they will yellow off eventually 😊
@@plantsbymelissa that's so so cool. I've been binging your videos all week. I've been watching your tiktoks and shorts for a long time but just starting watching your long videos. I love plants but I'm only at 65 😬
The little clear pots are the repot me pots and the white self watering ones I use a couple different kinds. I have them in my pon section here www.amazon.com/shop/plantsbymelissa/list/3DGT1T05R3EUS?tag=onamzmeli0992-20&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d
It’s by the brand fluval. I buy mine on Amazon you can also check pet or aquatic stores. Here’s what I get: www.amazon.com/dp/B00JGQIY48?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B00JGQIY48&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.1OODWALE01UEU&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m_asin
Right now I adjust my water to about a ph of 6. I have base and acid drops I can add in. I know the zeolites in pon helps to buffer the PH but I’m not sure if I’m doing things right so I’m hoping the meter will help guide me.
Any advice moving from Fluval to soil? Lately when I’ve moved my Hoya from Fluval to soil they have died or really struggled. It isn’t lack of roots cause I wait till there’s a lot in the Fluval. Any ideas?
Do you rinse most of it away before planting? How’s your substrate like? Is it more water retentive or like an aroid mix? I tend to neglect Hoyas more often as far as watering goes even for transfers. If the soil is wet at all I don’t water it.
@@plantsbymelissa Yes I do rinse it off. I use a aroid mix for all my Hoya so it’s super chunky. I seem to be having better luck transferring the ones in moss rather than the ones in Fluval. 🤔
I loooove highly white variegated plants, especially monsteras I have great luck with them, but I understand everyone’s concerns with them. However, if you’re ever throwing one out, I’d love to purchase & cover shipping, with the understanding that I’m taking the risk. I Just wanted Tiomention this, in case
Unrelated but I'm in. Panick. I got a cutting from GE of a monstera deliciosa albo and I put it in water and it's rotting. I switched it to new zealand moss and it's in my cabinet. The aerial root was rotting .I cut the rotted part off. Is fruval better I have but never used. Any help would be so appreciated. It's my wishlist plant and I'm overwhelmed.
Stratum works well but I just use water and really high light is number 1 for these guys. If the root is rotting then definitely cut off above the rot but as long as the stem is good it should push new roots out in a couple weeks.
I've been using it routinely now on everything just because it got confusing to keep trying to separate it but the plants seem happy with the regimen I've been using. If anything I have noticed zero spider mites popping up and they should have appeared by now. I usually get them every few months on my philos then I spray them off and get beneficial mites. I feel it's made them more resilient and definitely going to keep using it.

What a beautiful room for your plants? Did you try upside down bottle for your moss pole plants?
You could use silica on those three adonsonii and see if that corrects the all white leaf problem. At least one more leaf on each.
Good idea!
I love watching your videos. I just got a philodendron tortum. Do you have any tips on this plant
I love your Frydek, I have some baby ones. And you have inspired my to get a micholitziana, which I don’t have. I have one question: what kind of pot do you have your smaller green one in? It’s the perfect size.
Pick and choose the ones you really want on poles and get rid of the rest.
Can you put the brush you used on the inflow in the foil also and just use that when applying to what you choose to cross with? Or is there enough pollen without saving the brush? I also am having trouble with my poles falling over even though I am sure I have potted them according to what you do. Any suggetions?
You seem super chill ❤ did u have some wine? Love your giggles!
No wine :) I drink occasionally though 😊
I ordered a Cissus discolor plant from Etsy. My first online purchase ever of a plant! Anyway it got here on the 4th day. It looked good coming out of the box. The next day it was completely wilted! 🥀 has that happened to you and what did u do?
I like the water pitchers you are using with the orange tops. I looked on your Amazon Page, but couldn't find them. Where did you get them? I need a new water pitcher for my plants. Thanks!
Oh, I think it's a Tropicana Orange Juice Container. 😀
haha yes!! I washed them out to use them for watering. They leak sometimes though so FYI 🥰
Ruh roh! Thanks for the warning!@@plantsbymelissa
Hi again, it is totally safe to lift your lechuza by the ring. it is not loose.
Thank you!! I had no idea what it was for haha 😂
my tortem came with root rot and i had to chop off all the roots, it still hasn't put out a new leaf and it's been 3 months 😅
Oh no 😢 sorry yours is being stubborn for you. I hope it pushes one here soon!
Hoping they’re gone for you soon and all your plants can make a comeback for you 🥹💕
Did u use fertilisers for your props in the cabinets or just plain water?
54:54 ❤ what a sweet boy. I have a bottle of silica but I haven't used it yet. I don't know how to use it? Some people use it as a mix in with water and sometimes directly on the leaves?
Hi Melissa, I’m interested in the Ikea pot you love that fits your 6” clear pot. Could you tell me the size of that pot or the name of it. I would like to order some. Thanks! You are such a good plant mommy; can’t wait to order plants from you when your ready to ship.
It’s a 6 inch pot and comes in a couple colors. It’s by GRADVIS. Should be $11.99 now. It used to be $6 ugh lol 😒
And thank you!! 🥹🙏🏼 I appreciate that
You mentioned your moss poles being top heavy.
I have never epoxied anything before 🫣
Great video again 🙂
I wanted to ask you if you had experience with BTI against fungus knats?
I have a splendid with 1 leaf. It’s only had one leaf for months. Would going into stratum help it grow?
Does it have a node to grow a new leaf from?
@@plantsbymelissa I’m not real sure
I may need to check the roots on my tortum. It’s got failure to thrive.
Oh no! I hope it’s okay 🥲 mine is even more sad after filming so I don’t have high hopes 🫣
What is the purpose of pollination? I had some anthiriums bloom! I dont really know the difference between male or female.
I love plants but I'm only at 65 😬
Where did you get those small pots for your alocasia in pon? The ones on ‘Alocasia Upsize in pon’ 🤗
Hi Melissa, what brand of stratum do you use?
It’s by the brand fluval. I buy mine on Amazon you can also check pet or aquatic stores. Here’s what I get: www.amazon.com/dp/B00JGQIY48?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamzmeli0992-20&creativeASIN=B00JGQIY48&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.1OODWALE01UEU&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m_asin
I wonder if giving the white plants some Epsom salts would green them up a little bit?
You don’t boil your pon after use before you use on another plant?
Put tape around that bent part of the stem to reinforce it.
❤❤
🥰🫶
What are you using as PH Equalizer?
Right now I adjust my water to about a ph of 6. I have base and acid drops I can add in. I know the zeolites in pon helps to buffer the PH but I’m not sure if I’m doing things right so I’m hoping the meter will help guide me.
@@plantsbymelissa - That is very interesting. I might have to do more research on this
Any advice moving from Fluval to soil?
That clarinervium 👀
I loooove highly white variegated plants, especially monsteras
I have great luck with them, but I understand everyone’s concerns with them.
Sorry if you have answered this, but have you seen any difference from using silica?
I've been using it routinely now on everything just because it got confusing to keep trying to separate it but the plants seem happy with the regimen I've been using. If anything I have noticed zero spider mites popping up and they should have appeared by now. I usually get them every few months on my philos then I spray them off and get beneficial mites. I feel it's made them more resilient and definitely going to keep using it.
I'd like to have one of those you're gonna toss, I don't mind the white also I'm in SC
💓👏
💚🌱💚🌱💚
Love u
Can you do a video on Fluval please. I need details. Trust you
What is the name of the plant you got gifted to you? 😊
anthurium pallidiflorum
