    We have PTSD--post thrips stress disorder! Honestly, the sight or even thought of thrips stresses me out so bad. I literally have nightmares about them. My house had them for about a year and a half. I lost so many plants...like you said, once you go through it, you do everythign you can to avoid it! So happy for you with your beautiful new plants!

    I understand where you're coming from not wanting to throw it away. For awhile i kept every single cutting. I felt like the plants deserved to live. If they were trying to live i should do my best for them. My house was overrun with plants and many of the same plant. I tried giving them away. I thought about selling them. But then i got spider mites. I just couldn't keep up. There's only so many people in your life that will want free plants and then they only want so many. Just yesterday i threw away 10 very healthy cuttings. I cried. I stressed over it for weeks before i did it. About an hour after i did it i forgot all about it. My house is cleaner and I'm less stressed. 💚

      I will often take my cuttings or plants I don't want anymore and I'll ask my public library or grocery store if I can donate them and let people take them. It's nice as heck to know that they are going with someone else and not in the trash.

    • @Twinleo1
      @Twinleo1 7 месяцев назад +3

      Agreed. It’s ok to trim your plants and throw them away. The ones that grow fast are the ones every store sells all year long so who’s going to buy them or even meet up for them. It’s such a waste of time. I do have coworkers who loved all my cuttings last year but it’s all the same plants again. Unless I’m rooting them to make a fuller pot, I don’t bother anymore.

    @jerredglisson1478 3 месяца назад

    Ugh! I feel every bit of your pain. Also, I would've struggled with tossing it as well, but ultimately I too try my best to give everything that's fighting for life a fair chance. Even depriving myself of buying ANY new plants because... it never fails; pests always make a presence shortly after. I end up either finding bugs or stressed to the max assessing for them 😅. Outcome is very similar either way- major anxiety and that's not why I have a house full of plants.
    My solution was buying a quality grow tent (most commonly used for those illegal plants) which provides the BEST quarantine/isolation environment in a spare bedroom AND the ability to support, and easily control, the best possible *conditions (lighting, humidity, air flow, filtration etc.) that support recovery, or *maintain health during a quarantine period. So for around $300-$600 (entire grow tent kit from Spider Farmer. Not sponsored) I completely eliminated pest anxiety disorder lol. Even when signs of pests do appear on that long awaited wish list plant, I gown and glove when I go inside the tent, zip the door behind me and always save the tent chores for last. Zero pests in my established collection since I got it and I don't risk plant health from unfavorable environmental conditions in an alternative quarantine area. Sorry, long post but I had to share 😁

    I'm new to your channel, so I'm not sure how you feel on the topic of pesticides. Personally, I would treat with spinosad, which is naturally occurring in soil. Spray the plant down and bag it back up. It's safe to use around any pets, but it is harmful to bees in its wet state, but safe when dry. That's the fastest way I have found to get rid of thrips. A systemic in the water might be a good idea, too. I only use those when less aggressive measures aren't working. Im so glad you got a healthy plant you can enjoy while you rehab the other.

  • @lilyofthevalley54

    There must have been an adult thrips hiding on the plant for you to be seeing larvae after all this time. I think going from a leafless chonk is the best course of action. Thrips need leaves to eat and lay eggs, so now there’s nowhere for them to feed and breed. You should be in the clear now. You could soak them in hydrogen peroxide or isopropyl alcohol if you want to be super safe but I don’t think it’s necessary. Hugs 🤗

    Thrips are incredible when it comes to their tenacity. I get them every summer in my yard. You can watch them leap from plant to plant and kill in a matter of days if untreated. They are the most aggressive pest I’ve ever encountered, and they seem to just be a fixture in my environment. Weee.

    It's hard, but don't risk the other beautiful plants you have. Dump it. You have a good one left

    Do you have a friend with no plants who might rehab it for you? Putting all your plants at risk is a non-starter. Just so not worth it. Just a thought.

      I don't have anyone I know without plants that would know how to rehab it 🥲

    Thank you for sharing your experience. I liked that you said the name of all sellers, good and bad. It keeps the unboxing authentic. Your new plant is beautiful just like all your current ones!

    We know you don’t have the heart to throw it out but, you would be in less stress and less worry about the plant. I know is easier than said and done, Sometimes you can’t save all plants and it is what it is.

    I was somewhat happy when that new leaf snapped, I know you wouldn’t have had the heart to cut it all off, but that’s a potential thrips haven there. 😊😊

    Since you have the other one, definately cut it and start over. It's not worth it. It will regrow. Get rid of those roots and the leaves.

    Thrips are a long process! I think they go dormant and wait for good conditions and pop back out months later. I wouldn’t put that thing with you plants for a long time. Maybe get it it’s own Tupperware for isolation and put it outside, in your garage or something where it can get light.

    Now I will be sure to buy something from this shop! How incredibly sweet of her. Also, she sells her chunky mix on her site. And don't be apologetic about your emotions, they are genuine, and so are you. 💜💚💛 Happy Mardi Gras!

    How do you treat thrips? I found some and im devastated

  • @ArthurGrey.
    @ArthurGrey. 7 месяцев назад

    Thrips eggs can take, at most, 45 days to hatch. I wouldn't let that bad boy leave the bag for at least 2-3 months except for treating it. Fingers crossed it's pest free and thriving soon! 😭

      Thank you! It’s definitely staying in the bag for a while and I have it inside of 2 containers for extra protection 😂

    Melissa, you need a magnifying glass with a light! It’s way easier to spot pests! Amazon has several to choose from. I don’t know if this would help, but the Bonide systemic granules work on thrips! I had them once and used this and sprayed weekly and I did get rid of them but am still so paranoid I’ll find them and that was a year ago 😂. Your plants aren’t in soil so I don’t know how that would work or if it would, but it brings me great satisfaction to know that the thrips who survive will die as soon as they feed on the plant 😊

      I have a microscope 😊 I personally advise against systemic use. To each their own though. Check out copper_lattice on instagram.
