Hey guys, it was brought to our attention that we may not have installed the Firefins correctly. For reference, here's how to attach the fins to ensure that they are locked in: ruclips.net/video/TlSnHz4ffmc/видео.html
yes, i don't here the "KLICK" in your Video and thought about loosing them.
Hi there its not because its shallow the fins weren´t clicked in. You have to hear a a "Click" than they are rock solid. You just stuck them on without locking them. So they are locked if you hear a loud click. cheers
Thanks for the insight! We've got a couple comments saying the same thing. We heard a click but obviously that wasn't the loud click we were supposed to hear to truly lock in the fins. Oh well - live and learn :)
Same issue with the Nobile quick-release fins. All were released quickly to the bottom of the Mediterranian. Thanks for the usual entertaining and informable video and for letting all of us meet the new furry member of your kitesurfing squad.
Have two split boards from Nobile - both from 2017: a NHP snd a Flying Carpet. Both using them as my only boards since then in ca 20-50 session per year (incl traveling frequently by aircraft)- without any problems at all. They are more or less like new. Extremely good quality, and you don’t notice they are split boards.
Nice, good to know!
I also have Nobile surf split board, and I love it. Using for few years with no issues.
Same for me: couldn't be more happy of my Nobile splitboard. And the fins stay forever like normal fins they are! :)
Exactly my experience with Nobile! Also have the same boards! They have very good fins, and very easy to put on and take off. These flysurfer fins already made me doubt if they gonna stick on board. In my opinion it does not matter how shallow it is, fins go are pressure all the time, extreme pressure in transitions.
The issue is durability. I have seen those type of split boards breaking really often. You loose your trip if that brakes.
Yeah we have seen a couple of broken split boards too. That could ruin a kite trip for sure. Time will tell how durable this board is!
Good tip on those clip-ons! Thanks!
Lost all the fins brilliant 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙏
Making pseudo-fins in order to put on actual fins doesn't seem like a rational idea for saving space, since you have to work with a screwdriver anyway, it would be just easier to have ordinary fins.
You could do the screw in parts at home and snap the fins in at your destination. Also, I think Firefin has different sizes of fins you could easily interchange… but yeah, after our experience we’ll stick with regular fins :)
I think that they had just to do something different from Nobile....but turned out that needs some fine tuning....
@@OurKiteLife maybe mount them CORRECTLY next time! 🙈
Glad to see another manufacturer getting into the space. Seems like the split part is good; just needs work on the fins. I had a regular Nobile board, which unfortunately got stolen. Their slot / twist-tab fin attachment is a nice design, though I didn't have it long enough to run it through the paces.
Sorry to hear about your board getting stolen, that’s too bad! Based on the comments here, it sounds like the Nobile split board is great.
excellent vid as usual, very enjoyable content
I use my split board when traveling by car with the family. Works great and saves some valuable space in the back truck :)
The quick connect system for the split looks pretty good. A lot better than another system i looked at a local kite shop where there was just 4 Philips screws holding the two parts together. It needs to be tool less like this. But i think they could put in some magnets to make sure the "handles" is kept in a locked position.
Too bad you couldn't make it to BC, we've had a fantastic summer of wind. It looks like you found a very nice spot in PEI though! Congrats on the puppy.
Thanks :) Yeah we were pretty disappointed not being able to go to BC but I’m sure we’ll get there soon!
Probably the best kite channel on RUclips. Quality and content are always exceptional.
Thanks a lot, appreciate the kind words 😊
I had the same problem loosing all fins! The point is that you need to press them hard on - the first click is not tight enough. It first sounds like they are in but they are not. I can bite my ass for this... After pushing them hard in, everything is fine now!
that's good to know! Thanks for sharing!
Nice to hear u didnt notice a big difference either, i got an older Nobile splitboard which is completly toolless (dont know how long the plastic levers will hold up thought). Even the sand doesnt effect it to badly, and on the riding side i didnt notice any difference at all, even flies upwind (im not a proffessional rider thought).
Nice! How long have you had the board/how old is it?
Are you going to get a new set of fins and make a follow up video? Seems like the company should really stress the install process and that one should do pre testing that they don't come off. The board and fins seem like they belong together as a travel board. Don't give up, I would love to see a second try. Unsuccessful tries lead to success!
Yes we are going to try the fins again and share our thoughts in an upcoming video :)
I bought the fins for my normal board. You have to press them firmly until you hear it click twice, then they are really tight. Greatings from Germany. Your Channel is great.
Good to know, thanks for the insight!
Second that. You have to press firmly until you hear several clicks, as indicated in the manual. Otherwise the fins come right off with the slightest pull. I first thought the system was broken because how easily the fins came off. After I put them put on correctly (press until you hear several clicks), they held firmly on my board and it required some force to remove them again. Not super intuitive, in my opinion.
Just wondering are you still thinking of setting up the 7m buoy to check accuracy of woo, piq, sufr?? Your content is very inspiring, thanks from wales..
Yes we are as soon we are able to go to Hatteras! Also waiting for new surfr mount. No piq thou as it's out of business
Very cool. This looks good. I'd be concerned about the stainless steel pins that hold both sides together. It's probably worth having and extra one or two on hand, as they don't seem to click in. (Maybe also some good gaffer tape to put over them so they don't twist open). But maybe that's just my initial concern. Super cool option though. Cheers from the Niagara region.
The pins do have rubber ends that seem to hold in place very firmly, so we aren’t too worried about losing them. Hard to convey over video/in a comment but the board does feel solid when put together :)
I trust in Highfivecarbonboards (look it up). Handmade carbon split boards (up to 3 pieces)... They are just another level ;-)
As Flysurfer ambasador did you have to buy this board or it was free? This board looks nice quality as its made by Shinn and it's a copy of Slicer that only has different pads/fins and different sizes. For travel its a new competitor to Nobile NHP Split board yet it's very different, has more parts that can be lost but it has nice FS design and looks to have flatter rocker than NHP.
We bought it (as ambassadors we still buy our gear, with a discount). Haven’t tried the Nobile spilt board so can’t compare, but overall we liked the design of the TRIP and how it performs in different conditions. Solid all round board that we will be bringing on future kite vacations
Hi. Do you know the dimention of the bag?
there is only one splitboard worth buying and this is NOBILE - the inventors of the splitboards, plus having toolless fins and straps is huge benefit
Lots of good things being said about the Nobile split boards! Thanks for the comment :)
Just bought a FS split board per you reciew... so sorry about your ankle. I noticed your review that you landed a back roll with one foot in on this review. Should we always kick.our of landing with one foot in?
Yes - most of the time it’s best to kick the board off if one foot comes out and you know you can’t get it back in the strap. There are times though when it’s possibly to safely land with a foot on the board beside the binding. But generally speaking best to ditch the board if you’re not 100% on the landing
the fins coming off seems like a MAJOR oversight. is there no way of securing them? (Turns out they were installed incorrectly, this is mentioned in the "We we're Wrong" VLOG, 2 videos from now)
Not that we know of. As mentioned in the video it could’ve just been riding in very shallow water (where normal fins would’ve stuck, these just came off). May not be an issue otherwise
Come on. Every sandy beach has a shallow part, that's why the sand stays. 😁
But one can screw-in regular fins, right?
@@IceAce1 yes thats what we did
1000000 ways of putting in a mechanical lock to secure the fins from falling off and Flysurfer just goes with cheap press fit :D
How is the rocker line? is there any concave or channels on the tips?
rocker line is similar to radical, concave bottom, channels on tips, overall sits somewhere between freestyle and freeride board, more playful than radical, but less upwind and pop.
As soon as you clicked those fins in I knew it was going to crash. The Nobile system is much better but plasticky so you better have a few screws handy and the click plastic part on the board can break. Other than that, the Nobile is great I used to go to Miami for work a lot and I could bring my gear to the office and no one knew what I had in my big suitcase. Same going to work in Queens, I could just leave all my gear in the back of my hatchback with the cargo blind pulled. A boardbag sticking out of the back to the passenger area is asking to have your window broken. No need to take the gear out, I leave it in all the time and there is nothing telling people I have such valuable gear in there. Split can be super useful.
That’s a great point about an advantage of the split board - hadn’t thought of it but makes sense!
Fins are NOT clicked in properly!! Poor review and too bad there was no rectification (yet)
Paying for the extra luggage is massively easier.
I remember vacuum packing my kite gear 10 years ago.
Literally ageing all my kites over night.
It’s definitely a “nice to have”. Recently in Canada we’ve got a couple budget airlines - very cheap flights so long as you don’t add on too much luggage. A few trips and a split board is easily justified :) plus not having to lug a big golf bag around!
Wait. Vacuum packing will age your gear?? I could see inducing crinkles / wrinkles - but is that worse than surfaces rubbing against each other? (often with sand rattling around)?
@@JamesLamb did you ever have that toilet paper at school that was like tracing.
You used to have to screw it up to make it softer this basically nackers your kite.
I always buy the long bags and leave my struts inflated. This gives you 50% extra life from the kite.
@@s2oooo I’d be scared to leave my struts inflated on a flight! Cabin pressure is lower, the differential will increase and so will the tension on your struts. I take you under-inflate them?
@@alpinedrift lol I don't leave them inflated on the plane I get all the air out then put the stoppers back in 😂😂😂
BTW. Splitboard purchased for a trip to Portugal. Any recommendations for Lisbon kiting
We haven’t been, so can’t offer any recommendations - sorry!
Wow! I never thought about going there to kite. I’m taking this is a good time of year to go there or do you recommend another time? Looks really nice there. Just added to my bucket list of spots to kite 👍👍
We have a video coming that answers this :)
Will there be a review of your trip to PEI? 😀
Yes, next video 🙂
Great review. Who is doing your music?
Thanks! Music is from Epidemic Sound, Yuri picks the songs :)
@@OurKiteLife Love it
Non-kite question. The beach where you launch, on a non wind day, could you take kids swimming there, if they can handle the cold? Is the beach otherwise safe?
I *think* so - there were kids swimming/playing in the water there when we were finishing up kiting. But I’d research just to be sure - it’s in the town of Maximeville
At 1:57 I do not hear the loud click - maybe the fins were not secured right!?
That’s possible. I heard a click when attaching but I wouldn’t say it was loud. Someone also mentioned that there should be two clicks. Could’ve been user error on our part.
@@OurKiteLife maybe ;-) .
In this video you can hear the loud click (about 3:30) ruclips.net/video/qPe7_O5C6Bc/видео.html
Every time I've tried traveling with travel-specific gear, I've always missed having my regular gear, so I end up just traveling with a bunch of big bags. Some of the travel gear seems pretty good, But I'd rather complain that getting through the airport could be easier than complain than my sessions in exotic locations I paid $1000s to get to would be better on regular gear.
That’s fair. We will say that we’ve used the TRIP board for every session of our vacation here and haven’t felt like we’re compromising the quality or enjoyment of our sessions. We’re happy with it and will use it for future kite trips :)
i love you =) u make me happy
If I'm going to go to a kite destination on a plane.. I'll just rent gear on arrival. At any other time, why the hell would I need a 137cm board to split in half? I'm pretty confused as to what the intended market is for this product
To each their own. If gear rental is an option than that’s great. Our experience has been that gear rental was not an option at many - if not most - of our destinations. Given how many people have commented on this video that they own a split board, it looks like there is a market for them :)
@@OurKiteLife I realise you maybe paid to advertise the product but half the comments are people saying just pay extra to ship proper gear.. I mean you lost all the fins in 1 session? I don't think many people will be rushing out to get one
We don’t get paid for any review videos, and we bought this board for its intended purpose. But hey, we aren’t here to argue - split boards aren’t for everyone! Cheers
Can somebody explain the usefulness of a splitboard to me? This thing costs a thousand euros plus where I live. If I bring my kite gear I have to pay a maximum of a 100 euros per trip extra for oversize luggage if i fly with a budget airline but if I book with the slightly more expensive airlines (to further destinations) I can take it for free. Why bother on buying a splitboard?
Also I wonder how this handles a proper wakestyle session with some high powered moves
No idea about handling a proper wakestyle session, but for us we bought it mainly for the convenience of not travelling with a golf bag, especially for "non-kiting" trips, like British Columbia, where you can kite as an option, but you are there for different reason.
At 0:44 so many scratches!
yeah the board cannot longer go upwind =]
This board is over designed and heavy. Especially the heavy heavy straps. Flysplit 2 was the better travel board. A bare minimum board that plained early, holds edge well and was light. Better to travel with your regular board than this Frankenstein creation.
Vins are SOLID. NOT properly mounted in this video. The vins need to CLICK!!
NOBILE is the Best 🙂
That seems to be a popular opinion :)
you lost your fins because you don't "CLICK IT" and probably don't red the notice, I have the trip board with firefin fins and all is ok ...
Yep - next video explains what went wrong!
