This was a such a light-bulb moment on how bluegrass is constructed for me! As always Jim puts things over so clearly, learning to play via his videos - long way to go yet for me. Big thank you Jim from the not so UK!
Well then all is going to plan, lol. I have learned 3 songs from you and I didn't end up playing them exactly like you did. Thanks for this eye-opening concept.
G,Day Jim, good lesson mate. Even though I've followed tabs, I can do it other ways now. And I always still come back to you and learn something. Wow 4 kids in your class, I can barely find another banjo picker in my whole city. But that's Australia for ya. cheers mate
Jim, missed you live. I'm watching it now it's 8 pm in Ohio. It's always great to watch and get a little history lesson. I'm always learning new thing s. God bless, and God bless the USA. Hillbilly Smitty.
Just ordered an Ibanez b200 some picks and a strap. Wish me good luck! Hopefully 2 years of acoustic and electric guitar will have a benefit to my learning of some bluegrass music.
I had my youtube open at the time of this lesson and nothing happened, I sat there poking around on my computer, and figured maybe I had the wrong time, then I see today that it streamed yesterday & is posted today! 😖 I don't know what I did wrong, I wanted to shuck the corn w/ you! Hey Jim, how does the super chat work? Do you have to catch the live session or can we support you when watching the recorded session after the fact? I love your lessons and this new style you have been doing is awesome!
SuperChat only works when chat is live. You can support my channel a number of other ways though. www.sellfy.com/wildjimbo www.patreon.com/jimpankey teespring.com/stores/wild-jimbos-banjo-ranch-store
Hey Gym, I hate I missed it live! Great lesson though, so much value packed in these live lessons. Could you possibly tell me that string and Fret numbers for that second C7 Chord, ?
hey Jim, that little peace that holds the 5th string in place just broke on me. i dont know the name of it, and i cant find it anywhere! i dont know if its normal on a banjo, but mine has one. can you help me out out? can i make one myself from steel? or does it need to be made from plastic like the old i have. i can make a video of the little peace and my banjo so you could see what i am talking about. thanks in advance.
Hey Jim, I've been getting much better at figuring out songs after listening to them, I've been working on the pike county breakdown and I've mostly figured it out, but I can't really figure out that part where you pull off the 1st string from the 3rd to the 2nd fret, it seems like they are pulling off again from the 2nd to the open position almost like a double pull off (I think) could you do a tutorial on this or show how I'm suppost to do that part if wrong about that
I believe I figured it out, there is no pull off, you just hit the string 6 times in a row, on the fret board it goes 3 2 0 3 2 0, still a bit different than what I'm used to but better than what I was trying to do
Students of the instrument need to learn how to take the skills they know and create their own break. As their skills increase they can add as much from Earl and others as they want.
Let's see short cuts you mean this? ruclips.net/video/OZmHEZZXfXk/видео.htmlsi=ymBCbnggfMPigZ3a Why in the world would you want to play note for note like someone else? No one can play it like Earl. Music is about expressing yourself not copying anyone else
The talking is the lesson. If you’d just like to figure it out from the playing you can always try this video: ruclips.net/video/L9huyeNbb7Y/видео.html If you find that too difficult, I do have a video where I break the song down in less than three minutes: ruclips.net/video/fT9UCCPfOg4/видео.html
You do realize that in a live lesson there is going to be talking. Teaching requires talking to explain what I’m doing and how to go about it. If you don’t need the talking, then skip ahead to the Flatt & Scruggs recordings. No need for instruction.
Thanks so much Jim! I can play through cripple creek and shuckin the corn now. Only been playing for two months. Keep up the great work!
Glad to help!
You’re a good guy doing these lessons.
Thanks! 😊

So glad I was able to help! 😊
Watched last night, cracking lesson, I'll be stealing lots of bits from it. Thank you kindly, sir!

You are the best teacher I like how you give us the information to figure things out. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words, and for letting me teach you banjo.
Thanks for all that you do.
You’re welcome 😊

Awesome Jim, you lay out a great foundation
Thanks 😊

Just ordered an Ibanez b200 some picks and a strap. Wish me good luck! Hopefully 2 years of acoustic and electric guitar will have a benefit to my learning of some bluegrass music.
You’re gonna do just fine!

2nd string 5th fret. First string 8th fret.
Jim Pankey thanks! I know you were located in Georgia, you don’t happen to be near the Athens area do you?
Nope... 2-3 hours away
I know you get a ton of requests but froggy went a courting would be awesome. Can't find it Scruggs style anywhere.
I don’t play that. Not really a bluegrass standard.

Could you do a tutorial fir Shady Grove
I play it, but have avoided a lesson on it since I play a couple of different versions.

Yup... it's a single string sequence. I usually play it with a TITM kinda pattern.
Never heard of it
Time to dig into some Flatt & Scruggs.
@@JimPankey I hear what you're saying and I sure do love their music but I'm kind of stalled out right now. Can't get over this hurdle I'm stuck at.
Hey there.
Hi!
Where do i find the video explaining the 411 lick anyone?
My Foggy Mountain Breakdown video
@@JimPankey Thanks from Australia, you've been a god send since picking up the banjo a few months ago, keep up the great work ya legend!
the fact that its takes 12 min for him to actually play anything is ridiculous
Yup... totally.
There is a slider on the bottom of the video screen, for use by the curious & less patient 😉
I'm sorry but your version of shucking the corn is a joke , an insult to to earl, ,they need to learn correct way, no short cuts!
Students of the instrument need to learn how to take the skills they know and create their own break.

Too much talking, not enough playing.
