    Before installing the air box, Do the Evap solenoid install, do not cut the factory lines, instead use a heat gun to reshape the plastic hose so that factory connections are used, do Not over heat the plastic & work large areas instead of localized heat. snap in the Evap solenoid & then re-install the air box.

    Okay, had this kit for four years...wow it's been so long. Well, here we go how many problems have I had? None, Nada, zilch, zippo! How many red and yellow top batt have I changed from the day I put this in? None! Still on the same 2 batt's, left lights on still started, WOW!
    If it works it's right, if it's broke it's wrong...this is VERY right! THX for such a good quality product...nuff said.
    Edit oh ha! Guess I already made a comment last year...well.

    I bought all this stuff (batteries too) about a year and half ago. Used one battery immediately, the other is still in the box. I plan to finally do this install on my 07 JKU before the weekend. Fingers crossed. I'm not worried I can do it. I'm just concerned about things like a brittle wire or something. Other than that, no worries.

    Shane, it's Sunday night August 2nd. My dual battery install is complete for now. Today here in my region of Iowa it was nearly perfect weather. I already had the structure in place. All I had to do is go out, disconnect the negative terminal from my single Odyssey battery, slide that battery back toward the firewall, place the second one in, hook up the hold-down/isolator piece, wire the second battery in. Took like 12-15 minutes. Tomorrow, I'll wire my CB into the isolator as you demonstrate and then add my next set of Baja Designs A pillar lights. I'll do my winch, Power Steps and improve the basics of battery wiring this Fall or Winter. But everything works and I just want to thank y'all. While I highly recommend this kit and the company, I suggest you follow my earlier thoughts if you aren't certain this is in your skill set. Either take everything to a professional or get some buddies over, have a couple of beers or whatever you drink, expect to spend a couple of hours and be sure you have all the tools and another vehicle on standby for parts and pizza runs. I did it with what these days has become mild mechanical skills. Used to be much better, but I get worn out much easier these days. If I can do it, you can too.

    This installation was intimidating when I first received my kit with the two yellow top Optimas. After doing a little research and reading the instructions I dove into it and found it to be relatively easy. I have not had one issue with it since install and I love having my G screen mounted on the A pillar. Especially since lately I've had a draw from somewhere that's been killing my battery after a couple days off sitting. Being able to do a push button jump start is a blessing.

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  7 лет назад +2

      So glad to hear you're happy with it Vance! Just keep in mind that your factory fuse box is hard wired directly to the factory positive harness, so that means all the circuits in the fuse box get power from the cranking battery all the time, even when the smart isolator has the batteries separated. So it is possible to drain your cranking battery too low to start the engine. If that happens, that's why you have the boost button! Just press the boost button one time and it will reconnect the batteries, just like using jumper cables to jump start from your second battery!

    • @vancehamilton1934
      @vancehamilton1934 7 лет назад

      I have been doing that lately. I can't find the draw on my system that keeps draining my battery. I love the G screen boost button

    Fantastic video! It was essential in assisting me as I was able to perform a flawless install of the JK Dual battery kit. Based on the experience of others in different videos I was expecting the removal of the factory air box to be the most troublesome task. However, that was a snap. The real challenge was re-installing the evap solenoid and I think your video went over that aspect of the install much too quickly.
    Your warning about shorting the batteries during attachment of the cables was spot on. I covered the central negative terminals to prevent accidental contact but forgot about the positive lead attached to the smart isolator. That caused a spark!
    After the install my 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sport started right up on the first try. Mark me down as another very satisfied customer.

    Installed this today with no difficulties using Odyssey batteries. I have been wrenching on stuff for years but even someone without much experience should not have any problems. I really would not want to go at those firewall mounting studs with a hack saw. Get yourself a Dremel or a cheap copy if you don't have an air grinder. I used a sawzall with a metal blade to cut the airbox mount off the rest of the tray. A hacksaw could work for this though.
    Very nice kit.

    Received my kit Tuesday night installed it Wednesday afternoon. Video is excellent. I would have killed to have one of those little pry fork tools that Shane used to remove the plastic Christmas tree wire binding tabs, flat head screwdriver is a poor substitute. Had to grow a pair when it came to cutting that evap tube but it was all good. Wound up trimming the supplied fuel hose (both top and bottom) by half as well. In my experience nothing is ever as easy as they say. But this install was as close as it comes.

    Quick install question: While you are removing the oem bottom battery tray bolt you mentioned that there is a nut on the bottom of it and not to worry because we won't reuse it.... Are you talking about the long nut on the underside of the fender? I got everything installed and saw that one laying on the ground under the Jeep after I pulled out for a test drive. I also noticed that all of the battery tray bolts on my 2017 were the same length (except for the PS res bolt). I didn't have a "longer bolt" like mentioned in the video (which seems to be why the long fender nut fell out). When I feel in the hole, there doesn't appear to be enough thread for the fender nut to screw on to).
    Thoughts?

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  2 года назад

      They just need to match. You shouldn't mix battery types when connecting them in parallel like with our system, because they charge differently, so mixing types will reduce the lifespan of both of them. We recommend using a high quality dual purpose (cranking and deep cycle) battery such as the Odyssey or Full River batteries shown on our website. There are plenty of other options out there at your local auto parts stores as well.

    Can anyone tell me what the reason is for having dual batteries? I bought a dual battery setup (tray, wiring harness, etc) several years ago, and never installed it. Never found a reason to have a second battery. I've winched, off-roaded, camped, etc. All my lights (factory and aftermarket) are LED. I'm guessing there must be one thing that other's do that make them want the dual setup, but I've not discovered what that was.

      We have a couple universal options. If you have room for one more battery under the hood, you could use our universal single battery kit, which has all the same features as our JK kit, just squished down to fit on one battery. Then you'll run a power and ground wire over to the stock battery location to tie it in. This gives you a remotely mounted dual battery setup. On the solenoid rear where the information is … now standing in the front of the batteries, looking at your logo… the left of the solenoid is listed as main and the right as auxiliary… this would tell me that the front battery is the main???

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  Год назад

      Good observation! However, the way we install it is different. We swapped the red and orange wires from left to right. The red wire detects voltage on the cranking battery and it also provides power to the solenoid. The orange wire detects voltage on the aux battery. We do this because it allows the wires to be routed directly to the proper battery post more easily. The red wire needs to be on the right side so that the isolator can be powered by the engine's alternator. If we left it the original way, then if the front battery were to get drained down below 9v and the isolator cannot operate, then it would never be able to connect the batteries together. Hope that makes sense!

      @@GenesisOffroad That might be my problem in some way. My so-called reserve was the one that had full power and my main battery had 3v. And multiple relays were clicking like a doomsday alarm. Anyway, I'm just gonna get that battery I pulled charged and make sure it's holding a charge. (according to Odyssee's website, they only have a 3 year warranty and mine are roughly at 5 years now. I'm not looking forward to replacing a nearly $400 battery.

    Great video but you lost me at the automatic isolater... thats not in the kit. Coming from a marine background i was going to use the Blue Sea Systems 7610. It is 120 amp and isolates batteries when charge not present all contained in a neat waterproof box. What is this "cap" and what is the load rating on it. Part number, specs, link to this info please.

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  5 лет назад

      Yes, the smart isolator is included in the kit. All our kits come completely pre-wired out of the box, so there's no wiring for you to do to install dual batteries. We use a Cole Hersee smart isolator which is rated to handle a continuous 200 amps flowing through it, and spikes of up to 750 amps for 30 seconds (such as when winching). You can see more details on how our system works on our website - www.genesisoffroad.com/JKDualBatteryKit-p/131-jkdbk2a.htm

    If I'm running an aftermarket CAI, will I still need to reuse the factory air box section? I don't own a Jeep yet but will be buying one soon.

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  Год назад

      That depends on which CAI you are using. Some of them reuse the factory mounting system, and some of them come with their own new mounts.

      You can simply disconnect both ground clamps to kill power to the entire vehicle.

    thank you for this great video, at what point is a high output alternator needed in conjunction with a dual battery setup?

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  5 лет назад

      The stock alternator is fine for most users. If you are pulling more power than your alternator can keep up with, then the excess power needs will come from the batteries and eventually they'll go dead. One common example is big car stereo amplifiers. A high output alternator would provide more power. Also, if you have a need to charge the batteries faster, such as when out camping and you want to crank up to top off the batteries, a high output alternator would charge them faster.

    I have a winch, amp for my sound system, and a spot style switch setup, I can hook all 3 of these up to both of these bus posts and it wouldn't be too many?

      Yes, the center stud on the bus bar is tall enough to stack several heavy gauge wire lugs.

    Great content! When using jumper cables - is it preferred to wire to the cranking battery, the accessory battery, or does it really matter? Thanks...

    • @GenesisOffroad

      You can connect jumper cables to your factory positive wire on the cranking battery and the factory negative wire on the aux battery. This will give you the shortest path to your starter and alternator.

      Yes. Our system keeps the air box in the stock location, so there's no interferance with aftermarket intake systems.

    Howdy, It's been a couple of years now since I had some issues with installation that we resolved with your help. Sorry, I've seemingly lost those emails. But I have a new problem today that I have to resolve in some manner. I was installing a new harness for a pair of Baja Design A-Pillar lights on my JKU. In the process of attaching the positive lead onto that little auxiliary post where you say any future add-ons should go, this is hard to describe but under that positive cable, there is another nut, same size as the top one. It started spinning on the post. So I renched it down, then that whole metal assembly started spinning. Ultimately leading to me stripping the top nut along with the top of that post. I can already see there is sufficient post for me to remove some and could buy a new nut, but now I'm concerned about the bottom part of that assembly. Send me that email and I'll do my best to display what I'm talking about. Thanks. I have absolutely no intention of repeating that install. It was far more difficult than you make it look, at least in my case. Partly because I didn't have the luxury of a basically new Jeep at the time. Of course I'm sure there were other factors but I don't tend to pay people to do things I should be able to do on my own. Just watching one of your newer videos for this same application, I notice you've made a change to the top part of the battery tray where connections are made. I have the version in THIS video, not the new version.

    Thank you

    • @GenesisOffroad

      It sounds like your aux battery is low. Our system lets the alternator charge the cranking battery first, and once it is above 13.2v for 2 minutes, it will link the batteries together so the aux battery can charge. So once they are linked together, your accessories receive power coming from the alternator and turn on. I'd recommend connecting a good battery charger that can put out at least 20 amps onto your aux battery to charge it up, then you'll be fine.

      No, you'll need to lift the top lid up and remove the two batteries to access the spark plugs, but that only takes a couple minutes.

    I got to the very end, and then figured out I can't use a yellow top and a red top. I wish I had known this. The terminals end up all wrong. the red top has the terminals switched. So, to get the negative on the right, that puts the terminals directly under the tray, which doesn't work at all.
    I wish I had inquired further about "they just need to be the same type of battery and the same size". I've got a red top and a yellow top, and they're both the same type, and both the same size; yet completely incompatible with this system.

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  3 года назад

      Hi Dave, it sounds like you probably have the size 34R, which is the stock replacement size for a JK. Our system requires 2 of the regular Group 34 batteries. The 'R' stands for reversed posts, so the positive and negative posts are on the opposite sides from the normal Group 34. If you just bought your batteries, you can try to swap them out for the correct size. Here's a short video that explains in more detail - ruclips.net/video/JopB0I1CRzY/видео.html

    • @slomofo1
      @slomofo1 3 года назад

      @@GenesisOffroad thanks! I actually deduced that that's what the R meant, eventually. The red top with the "R" was the existing battery; so I ended up just getting another yellow top, and gave the red top to my buddy :-).
      All working great now. Just need to install the G Screen next
