I would like to have the cheap one just for novelty because the first computer I built (back when a 56k modem was a big deal) was housed in a wooden box that I made from scrap kitchen cabinet material. Either of these boards would have gone with it perfectly.

You guys should mod the $1400 keyboard to make it mechanical.
Just remove the caps and the frame, then tear all the guts out and put in some guts from a cheap (but decent) mechanical keyboard.(if you can find one with the same layout.)
Then put all the wood back on and viola. You got a keyboard actually worth having. Even if it still isn't worth $1400.

Nordak Balrem because the keyboard is already too damn expensive. No sense in spending $200 on another high end mechanical keyboard just to mutilate it and put this wooden shell over it.

A cnc could produce 10 of these (of the same or better quality) at about an hour tops. Bunch of bs. Isnt marketing a wonderful thing ?

And people (read that as "hipsters") like things that are hand crafted.
Buying hand made things allows artisans to make a living with there crafts, and that in turn keeps the craft alive.
Sure, a cnc machine could produce the same thing in a 10th of the time, but that's not the point.
The point is that these crafts took thousands of years to perfect, and technology is quickly killing them.
And should some sort of apocalyptic scale disaster (which is actually FAR more likely than most people realize) happen, these artisans and there respective crafts are going to be more important than ever.
Especially wood working.
I can get a decent PC with the price of that keyboard... Better yet I can buy so many chicken McNuggets with that price.

Expertly-crafted hardwood does not have splinters. And even cheap bamboo isn't very prone to splinters either.
I've recently passed my enviromental science degree and geographic enviromental degree.. so I can confirm this wooden keyboard is quite ridiculous. This keyboard isnt environmentally friendly because someone worked for its cost = time when bought = commited to work to earn the cost funds for the keyboard so it's pointless being a wooden keyboard for environmental concerns because of its value being so high. If anyone buys this thinking wood is better than plastic it is but not at this value. I hope soon all electronics get rduced but that's a dream. Enviromentalists alsonweigh reasonable products, if itnwols and is effective vs cost, This isnt.
I hope that keyboard holds up if water gets on it...

you don't have to capitalize it. title case is mostly an American thing. other languages and English parts of the world use sentence case.
Edwin Contreras Hmm... didn't know that. I've never seen one that way, makes sense though. Kinda weird that they weren't consistent with some of the other keys such as Num Lock and Pause Break. They should at least stay consistent at that price point or you would think someone would of caught it.
Nobody caught it because they're not native English speakers. This keyboard is mainly for a japanese customer base, and they just happened to also laser-etch english versions because "why not".
Many "iconic" luxury products have linguistic errors in the versions intended for export to foreign-language countries.

I feel like if they were a bit thicker and had a detachable cable they might look nice. Also, maybe make the cable itself out of something different than plain plastic. Perhaps a braided hemp coating and... hmm, what for the ends of it? Maybe some kind of metal, I don't know.
Edit: Wait, just make the end grip out of wood! So, it would be a nice thick wooden keyboard with a detachable cable with a wood grip around the ends and light-brown braided hemp for the outside of the wire. That would look nice.

Let's be honest--that $1400 keyboard isn't really for typing. Its purpose is sitting on an expensive desk and looking expensive.
Then it shouldn't be a usable keyboard. All they did was waste a shit ton of money on a keyboard barely anyone is ever gonna buy, and getting $1400 from a couple of egotistical rich people isn't making a profit, either. I'm sure any sane person, even one who is rich, would just get a better functioning keyboard and have it customized to have wooden keys and a wooden base instead, as that'll deffinitely cost less.
Charity exists for those who don't know what to do with all of the extra money they're making.
The cable looks like shit, I wouldn't get the keyboard even if it was for free.

...but why? All that craftsmanship and attention to detail is practically wasted when it's put on such a crappy foundation. This is like the keyboard equivalent of fitting a shitty car with rims that cost more than the actual car.
Prob cause it would be a $1500 keyboard at that point... But perhaps they might sell more of them (with the appropriate mechanical switches) at that point.

I would guess this keyboard isn't aimed at gamers or keyboard enthusiasts, but rather people who care about their office design, have a lot of money and don't type that much.
For that group only the wireless option is missing, otherwise it looks amazing. (again: as long as you look for a usable design product and don't care about money)
Ærik Bjørnsson what switches did you use? Mine has clears and they sound quieter than normal membrane keyboards, not to mention feel way better.

$1400 can buy 4 Ergodox EZ Glow (RGB backlights) ergonomic, hot-swappable key switches/key cap, fully reprogrammable mechanical keyboards that have great mechanical key switches from the start, including wrist rests and tenting kits.
And then you can spend $1400 (I’m guessing shipping isn’t free!) for 1 wooden keyboard that, while it may look nice as a piece of art, is still a cheapskate membrane keyboard that’ll wear out quickly, is mushy, and bugs will love it!
I do like nice wooden things, where it makes sense.
This does not make sense. They’re wasting that fine wood and all the hours of a craftsman to attach that art onto a crappy membrane keyboard internal guts.

$1400 for a wooden keyboard... The engraving on the keycaps can all be done automatically, the cuts as well... If anything, it's a disgrace that they think a keyboard made of wood would ever even be worth $1400, just because "handcrafted". If every "handcrafted" products were to be that expensive, we'd all be making our own shit and selling it like they used to before the industrial revolution. (heck, the keyboard is clearly not handcrafted for shit. It might be hand assembled at best.)
And even if it was fully hand crafted by one person (Despite it seeming not, especially when you look at the HACOA preview videos) i wouldn't say the wood would be worth anything $1,400 even if it was practical.
I wouldn't say the price is worth even being good looking enough as a novelty that it'd be worth that much money to put on Display, and it's not like it's from a brand everyone would look at for Novelty Keyboards, and it's too pricey to be worth the practicality, that it has, but it's a novelty item, and i would never pay that much money even if it had braided cables and RGB.
Next time when you lag in online games and people ask if your playing from a wooden computer, you can say yes.
