When Elton hugs Reggie, it’s him finally coming to terms with who he is. THIS is the defining moment of the movie, THIS is who he is. He is Elton Hercules John, but he will always remember who he originally was and where he came from.
Such a good movie year with Irishman and Joker
, but i still think Taron should win the oscar.
It won three nominations
ShadowStorm 3.0 excellent.
ShadowStorm 3.0 great scene...psychological and emotional.
No nomination for Taron at the Oscars sadly. Only the song got a nomination.
“I’m not going to allow you to talk to me like this anymore.” I need to say that to several people in my life. I need to free myself of all the past pain and abuse. This scene speaks to me so much.
But the significance isn't that he's talking to his parents. After all, they're all in his head. The significance is that he's telling HIMSELF that he won't let their reflections that he sees in himself hold power over him anymore. To put it plainly, the things our caretakers teach us about ourselves become the echo chamber through which we talk to ourselves later in life. They are representations of the trauma he holds onto and the accusations he hurls at himself any time he feels guilt or shame. So the lesson isn't to cut people off--although it can be--the lesson is to treat yourself with kindness and heal from the things we learned from our nuturers during childhood.
Oh barf.
Looking for pitty points are we?
This scene speaks to me so much. ... so it does to me!
I also suffered abuse, but at a young age. The only thing I can say is the only worst memory I have is bruises on my back at the age of six. I'm fifteen now, and this scene has changed me as a person.
"No, no, no I love you mate... always have always will." DAMN that got me
Bernie Taupin is the best friend we all need 😭
Daniel Bautista but nobody has 🙁
me:sad human noises
Daniel Bautista
😭😭😭
Matthew G Only Elton.
I have a Bernie in my life, but his name is Michael. He’s been my best friend for almost 20 years and I can always count on him to be that loyal friend I need to cheer me up when I’m in my dark pits of depression. I always thank God for bringing Michael into my life.
Bernie had the BEST advice for Elton, and for everyone
I know in an interview Taron said Elton cried when he saw this movie, but I would really love to know what was going through his mind when he saw this scene for the first time.
this is legit what therapy is like though. connecting with the younger version of yourself and forgiving the people who have done you wrong
This movie did a beautiful job showing that
Many are saying 'embrace the past and let go'
But Elton John hugging himself has so many interpretations...
When I first saw this scene, I got the different message
For me, its abt loving yourself.
The kid never got the real and 'proper' love, so he finally came to term with it and hugged himself.
Just embrace yourself!
That’s how I interpreted it, throughout his whole life, all the fame, alcohol, drugs and toxic people he went through, his biggest problem was that he didn’t love himself. This scene is him finally loving himself for who he is and that to me is the message of the movie, love yourself
For me is about healing your inner child
That explains the inclusion of the song "I'm Gonna Love Me Again."
1:59
Embrace the past and let it go...
Such a good message!
Low xang yen don’t compare that with this please...
Thank you Desmond Lizewski 👏👏
Taron and Jamie were brilliant. This scene is so emotionally invested in Elton embracing Reggie and recognizing he was capable of being loved.
This movie is unappreciated tbh.
Like bohemian rhapsody.
Michael Myers Bohemian Rhapsody was a movie full of lies with Queen’s songs in it.
It wasn’t a biopic, just a bad movie
@@-nina-8498 Rocketman's more special, more personal, more beautiful, more magical and more wonderful. Great film, great great film. Sklankokiha!
Lars Olavsgaard definitely !!
I didnt think this movie was going to be good. But this is probably one of the best movies I've ever watched in my life.
This is one of the most emotionally powerful scenes in movie history in my opinion, they all did a great job I have to say. Every time I watch that scene, I'm practically a blubbering mess (as was everyone else who saw this part of the film too I'm guessing). It's really hard not to like it at all.
"one of the most emotionally powerful scenes in movie history"...I couldn't agree more. Especially the hug. I'll never be able to watch this scene in the company of anyone; it's way too raw for me. Hits very close to home. I wasn't expecting to like the movie, but it was amazing.
Never seen Bambi then?
I was almost crying from about 10 mins into the film, my heart was breaking for little Reggie and then the hug happened I couldn't hold the tears back any longer, it to hits home for me I suppose because like Elton I wasn't like every other child and I suppose in a way I've never got to the stage of being able to hug my younger self, I hope to accept my younger self and all the weirdness that is me
No one gonna talk about how mental everyone in rehab must’ve thought he was
tvaholicsquidney, they did a great job of building up to that emotional plateau.
I bawled when his father refused to hug him because as a child I never got hugs, never heard the words I love you, but I think it's because my parents were in their 40's when they had me. They'd gone through the great depression and people didn't express feelings back then. I swore that if/when I had kids, they would get multiple hugs every day and hear "I love you" and "I'm proud of you", another one I never heard. So when Elton came down and hugged Reggie, I was bawling all over again. I have 2 sons, both grown men and while one is single, our other son is married and we have 2 granddaughters. Those precious little girls never have to question if they are loved because while we live 500 miles away and don't get to see them as often as we'd like, we make good use of the time when we are there. Kids need to know they are loved. It's that simple.
Your comment made me cry even more than the scene did, I'm so glad you broke the cycle of neglect ❤️❤️❤️ the most powerful thing we can do... Be loving even when we haven't been treated lovingly ourselves. Thank you.
@@treehugger444 Aww, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry, but I'm so grateful for your words. You made my heart get just a little bit warmer!! You are so kind!!! Whether it's our kids, and that includes our daughter-in-law, we tell them we love them every time we talk to them, and when we make the 500 mile trip to see our granddaughters....yes, mom and dad too, they ALL get hugs, they hear I love you or how proud we are of you, and those little girls get squished in our arms every chance we get. We usually spend 3 weeks or maybe 4 weeks with them at a time, (they have a large house) and it's so hard to come home, but it feels good because we can think ahead for when our next trip would be. Thank you again!!!!
@@survivrs oh bless your hearts! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ People like you are literally the reason why I still have a lot of hope for this world. There can never be enough kindness, hugs and affection and I love people who embrace love like you do :)
@@treehugger444 I love you back!!!!
Bless you and your family
"I gave everything to keep something that I never ever had in the first place."
Felt that in my chest...
The full scene in the Rehab Group is amazing
The hug between Elton and Reggie at the end, finally accepting himself is powerful.
"When are you gonna hug me?" I cried like a baby at this scene. He finally gives himself the love and acceptance he always needed.
I cried as well. I had to stop the movie to calm myself.
He’s finally giving himself the love he never had as a child.
There's a line in his memoir "Me" which says about his parents "They should never have gotten married." If anything thinks his mum is bad in the film, she's even worse in the book. Real nasty piece of work. I know you're not supposed to speak ill of the dead, but she really was.
Going into this movie, I was like, "I'm so bummed I never saw this in theaters!" Then I got to this scene and I was actually bawling, and I was just like, "I'M SO GLAD I DIDN'T SEE THIS IN THEATERS!!!"
Yep same here .i totally ugly cried when I watched this last week
Same. i would have been kicked out for crying so loud.
The part where he hugs himself as a little boy brought me to tears. I’ve had that same imagination before in where I hug myself as a kid. To me it meant showing that kid that believed in himself that you still remember him, and that you love him (yourself) despite of what life has put you through.
I love this!! I totally agree
Inner child and older self ❤
2:00 That bit made me cry. 😭
It makes me smile. To see Elton getting help.
tbh the goodbye yellowbrick road scene me cry. And this seen... jesus I was emotional
Like this scene
If you didnt cry at this moment something's wrong with you
0:21 I love the aunt she love John for who he is, strange is great
Not his aunt, his nan.
@saraluzz Elton was very close to his nan. He would always send flowers on her birthday no matter where he was in the world. The day he arrived in Australia and was told no one was allowed off the plane, his thoughts went to his nan, who was getting on in years. He wondered if she had died. Then he saw his manager John Reid in tears and found out John Lennon had been shot in New York.
When Elton hugged his younger self it made me want to cry. I won’t hesitate to say it’s one of the most beautiful moments I’ve ever seen in any film.
"Im not going to allow you to talk to me like this anymore"
this scene made me cry so much and when lil Reggie said "when are you going to hug me" I started balling my eyes out. and then Elton hugged him and I started to cry even more. this scene was amazing
me too
the two moments that made me cry uncontrollably:
-when Elton hugs Reggie
-when Elton sings Your Song
Very artistic depiction is making peace with your inner child and coming to terms with who you are and where you’ve been. Great scene ❤️
So sad. Elton had only a handful of people who believed in him, including his younger self.
God this film broke me. This scene the music, acting and camera work is insane!
When Little Reggie asks "When are you going to hug me" is one of my favorite movie scenes ever.
The way I interpret this scene is, all of his family and friends confronting him, then him hugging his younger self is not that they all didn’t love him. He didn’t love himself. Always love yourself more than anyone and anything else!!
Sometimes we all underestimate the significance of self love.
I wish I could hug Sir. Elton John and cry out loud
My life has been through a lot of things and when I found out about his music and ROCKETMAN.
It makes me realize much more about how much we have in common.
Thank you, Sir. Elton John for keeping me alive and have a purpose in this life.
Love Mighty.
*Underrated film*
I don't know Elton, will probably be never meet him and I am more proud of him than his own parents ever were. Elton's story is so inspiring.
So well said!
I love this movie’s message on self love‼️
This scene made my dad cry and he usually never crys when watching movies or hardly at all. This hit him a little to close to home...
I start to cry at this scene I LOVE ROCKETMAN
i cried when he hugs his young self.
and i still cry to this part
Therapy man, this movie was therapy for me
When Elton hug Reggie. I am literally crying
I believe this movie, in particular this scene, is such crucial piece of cinema, for lgbt cinema, dealing with drugs and addiction, toxic relationship and much much more.
Very nice to have something as visually impacting and “mainstream” digging deep in what matters.
Bohemian Rhapsody WISHES it could be this.
Also, Taron out-acted an Emmy winner in a similar role. Think about that.
Freddie isn't around like Elton, so all we got is what Queen bandmembers were willing to tell. But Elton told the whole story of himself.
omg respect the dead
@@accc9090 Well I can agree about that cause from I saw in a documentary about Freddie, I conclude that his a very private person and his bandmates knew that. That us why Bohemian Rhapsody(movie) only told some of Freddie's life stories and some of them are inaccurate because the band members want Freddie's life to be respected.
JAYDON EPIC MAN ikr
Pfft thats what you think
I cry everytime I watch this frickin scene
One of the most beautiful scene I ever seen in my entire life.
I think this is something we should all do as hard it may sound. Love yourself you’re one of a kind.
when elton hugs reggie is symbolizes that hes embracing the past and letting go accepting that he is reggie dwight
I think this is the only scene in any movie that I can’t watch without crying. I cry every time, maybe because it hits a little too close to home.
I love him confronting everyone because they are saying what they've been from Elton but he's telling them the reality of who it is they see and finally accepting and loving himself
that line, that hug, the catharsis... breathtakingly powerful.
Best movie ending ever. 😭
That was insanely great acting by Taron & the cast. I’m crying my eyes out - yet again. To me this movie/musical/piece of entertainment Gold, is one of the best pieces of cinema I’ve seen. I’ve heard Taron say in interviews he is proud of his work in the film, and I’m SO glad he is! It is..a masterpiece. I don’t impress easily, so I’m not throwing words like “masterpiece” around lightly. I am old enough to know some of Elton’s story. Bought his vinyl records, still have them, and even the 45’s. My adult children have taken “Mom’s Elton John records” to borrow many times. I just have to pester them to give them back! :) Growing up in the 70’s my friends and I loved Elton’s music and Bernie’s wonderful lyrics. We’d play air hockey, pinball, & other games before school started, at a little store across from the school. Elton’s most recent hit would be blaring every morning. As time went on, I bought many books about him and his music, and kept buying cassettes, then CD’s. I know it’s been four years since the movie was in the cinema, but I still watch it when I can on dvd. This movie made me smile, cry, and appreciate Elton as a person. Taron, Richard, Jamie, Bryce, & the entire cast were phenomenal. Thank you Dexter Fletcher! Thank you for bringing joy to people like me who appreciate your fine work. I hope Taron & Richard might consider another musical one day. The chemistry you had dancing, singing, and even with difficult scenes, was magical. Don’t get me started on the Bennie & the Jets scene; Exhilarating, exciting, seductive, & sad are the emotions it brought out in me. Taron you are a very gifted actor. Best of luck with future endeavors. ❤
I’ve had a similar exercise during my therapy session, where i hugged my inner-child, and I remember i cried and cried, but also felt so much better❤️
Bernie had a point he wrote millions of songs people love and listen too

“You will never be loved properly.”
Every like will get Taron Egerton closer to a Best Actor Oscar nomination!
Joker: Send in the Clown...
Los dos por favor :(
Arthur fleck: how about another joke elton
Yeah.. I've got bad news. No nomination.
He didn't even get an Oscar nomination. What a miscarriage of justice.
This is about Elton's struggles with BPD. To be put in a phrase metaphorically
This scene always makes me cry
When he hugged himself as a child I realized how beautiful the movie was. Im glad you got better elton. Sing on angel
This scene always gets me.😭
I think i have one word: CRIED
The guy at 1:00 looks like an older Tom Holland
It's courious, but he's the actor of Billie elliot, and Tom holland use to be Billie Elliot in a musical
Kupo: I imagine that’s how Tom Holland is going to look like as he ages
@@SebastianGtzG no bille's friend
Jamie Bell. Tom looks like a mix between Jamie and Taron Egerton.
Que emotivo cuando le da un abrazo a su el de pequeño
i cried so hard when i saw this movie i love it so much!
This was the last movie my grandfather watched, which is the reason why I cherish it
Taron got robbed. He damn well deserved an Oscar for this role. He is unbelievable.
At least he was recognized and got the Golden Globe!
OMG I just watch it yesterday 😭 I was crying like crazy when he hugs the young self😭
Pobrecito elton por fin lo habraso alguien y quién mejor que el
too bad this movie was released in the wrong year
But COVID-19 wasn't a thing back then
How was it the wrong time at the wrong year
@@Darthsebastianolvera2001 too many oscar competitions
So much occult reference in this scene. Notice how he and his younger self are hugging right smack in the middle of the black cube, cube of Saturn reference. It’s him completing his Hero’s Journey. Love it
My favorite scene. Made me choke up.
This scene is so sad omg.. i cried 😭
1:57
how I wanted to travel to the past and hug with myself when I was a child
This is so "Congratulations" scene from Evangelion.
Why did everyone here for?
They wasn’t even here in real life.
Jason ‘Jay’ Fox, Jr. they not saying they were literally there. its from his own mind
Is that a fact?
Jason ‘Jay’ Fox, Jr. lol yea. the movie is a “musical fantasy”
I thought Richard Madden was amazing in Game of Thrones.
He's even better in this film.
1:52 if you wanna see my emotions look at the thumbnail for Shia Labeoufs hot ones.
Its about coming to terms on who he is to expect himself who he is
Nobody’s talking about the fact that the dad looks like Neil Patrick Harris? Ok cool.
From a psychotherapist, this scene is very deep.
Oh god. This scene kills me
If only I can break out of my negativity like this
same man
I cried at this point in the movie first time I watched it. I had problems at the time and I've managed to recover cause of university and meeting new people.
Me too
Elton John hugs himself when he was young 😢
I wish everyone has a friend who is like the Bernie Taupin to their Elton John.
That hug lit up the darkest room.
