I have a 14’ now but had a 05’ Chevy (cat eye) before and the older truck was so much more DIY friendly. You could pull the headlights out in a matter of seconds and without tools! But don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t go back to the older one. Don’t miss all the squeaking and rattling. And I don’t think I will ever own a truck without AC in the seats again. My truck has me spoiled now 🥶💺

So the installers said the side bar light never turns off , (mine is a 2018 model) morimoto said there is nothing that can be done, is it maybe because the drl is plugged in if my truck already comes with LED turn signals .. maybe the extra connection is messing with the wiring? Or power and keeping the side bar flickering , kindve like it was when you plugged in yours. How it flickered , that’s how it stays on even when the truck is off

Thanks for the instructional video. I have a question regarding the installation.
In your video @9:20, you said the DRL harness is needed if your truck does not come with LED turn signals in the headlight. I thought that the DRL harness was used if the truck did not come with LED DRL. The SLT and above have factory DRL.
Can you please clarify? Also, you said to use fuse #36, but according to the Morimoto instructions fuse #39 is used for the DRL harness. Which one is right?
I hope you reply. Thanks again for the video!

The headlights are plug and play. Everything should work once the connections are made. There is no additional wiring for the DRL. If the factory DRL is not working there there could an underlining issue that will need to be determined.

The people have got to know..
Months later, I finally got them...and I'm pulling them off lol.
These look awesome. During the day they are simply put - badass. They're unique, they stand out, they're blacked out and modded out, they have sequential turn signals, baby!
At night? Its primary function: TERRIBLE.
The aggressive DOT step makes it impossible to aim the headlights for proper visibility without blinding the shit out of everyone. Let me explain...
The DOT step: It's neccessary and required by law. It's an aggressive staircase step, though. It's literally like a damn staircase made for giants, far too tall. After aiming the headlights properly, your field of vision is greatly impaired due to the fact that 1/3 of YOUR OWN LANE will be in complete darkness. Aim higher? Blinding everyone. Aim horizontally? Hotspots are off center and all messed up.
The cutoff line: It's razor sharp, it's cool, and it's absolutely terrible for leveled or lifted trucks. I have coil overs and we all know it can be a bit bouncy at times. Most lifted or leveled trucks have some bounce to them. Well, that razor sharp line only amplifies the bounce. You'll see just how much bounce you've got with these lights! More annoyingly, it creates FLICKER. Flicker for me, flicker for you, flicker for every'f*ckinbody. That means it's like a laser in your rearview mirror in your eyes if you're unlucky enough to be driving in front of me. If you're on the other side of the road at a distance? You better be wearing sunglasses because I'll be blinding the shit out of you!
I've aimed left, right, down and up in every damn configuration imaginable. My truck went crosseye and cockeyed in my aiming endeavours to no avail. I couldn't see jack shit or I could see EVERYTHING...except everyone else because they're trying to refocus their vision. I hope they can still have children...
This lighting sucks. It takes the enjoyment out of driving at night.
Its perfect application would be a stock height or lowered truck. THAT'S IT...no joke. This ain't user error. It's extremely poor engineering.
I've decided to reinstall my OEM lights after a retrofit. I'll be certain to keep the light output modest and the projector either ECE standard and/or a pitted lense to soften the flicker and cutoff...because I'm in a modestly lifted truck.
Truthfully, I got better visibility and night time driving enjoyment with my OEM projectors and a decent HID kit.
$1200 down the drain...I'm still learning shit the hard way. Man, I thought I outgrew that nonsense. No worries, just gonna throw money at this problem. I contemplated retrofitting the XB's. I still might, but most likely going to resell at 30% loss (hopefully).
    adios, amigos! (jumps off cliff)
    Mario

That is an incredible way of handling my woes, thank you sir. I don't think these problems can be addressed without a retrofit. I highly doubt that Morimoto would be willing to address my concerns with a realistic resolution.
I plan to sell to the highest bidder, likely a 4-500 dollar loss and retrofit my stockers and going back to HIDs.

Do you think I would have the same problem with a stock truck with a 2" level kit?

    • @snooka2484
      @snooka2484 3 года назад +4

      @@MrSkyline350gt
Probably not. You should be able to aim them high enough that you'll get good visibility without blinding people.
You *will* have to adjust horizontally unless the step 1/3-1/2 in your lane doesn't bother you. I'm actually retrofitting these XB. Before throwing them in the oven I messed around with the horizontal adjustment yet again, but this time while on a dark and empty backroad. What I was able to achieve was acceptable usage out of these headlights.
I aimed the driver's side headlight slightly to the left so that the step was not in my lane and instead on the center divide line. Then I pointed them up a little to maximize my own view. I did the same with the right side but to a lesser extent. With some finagling the horizontal can be adjusted without removing the headlight from the truck. The air intake box must be removed to adjust the passenger side though. This was why I chose a desolate road. And in my case I had to use a step ladder for each side. I have to admit the results were favorable and I drove home satisfied.
The only people annoyed by my headlights are low profile vehicles directly in front of me in my lane. Opposite direction drivers are unaffected until they're within 10-15 from me.
I think with a less aggressive step, perhaps a slope like what is found in the Morimoto MLED 2.0 projectors my woes would never have come to pass.
