Almost no one realizes how hard it is to sustain perfect time on that high hat-to-snare exchange for three minutes, especially while playing triples on the kick drum. I frequently (try to) play along with this song to warm up, and I have never been able to get all the way through without dropping the beat at least a couple of times. The cat is a human metronome.

@@msoileau83 indeed. There was a lot of switching going on in the world of rock, Dave drumming for Queens of The Stone Age and appearing at random shows along with Taylor starting his own band. He took the mic at every show I went to and would sing Queen and Bowie. It’s all really sad looking back on the loss of Kurt, Layne, Chris Cornell, Taylor and so many rockstars who died too young. You can find a beautiful live acoustic album on Apple Music and I’m assuming every streaming platform, Everlong definitely hits different slowed down, and I won’t lie, it makes me cry every time I hear “My Hero” during Varsity Blues which I grew up watching. It made that scene and that movie and did a lot for their career because it was such a hit. I was just saying the day Taylor died while listening to them on a road-trip that I never thought I’d see them doing Ford commercials, but they were/are? an incredibly long lasting band that appeals to every ages. I’m glad Taylor got to experience being inducted into the Rock N’ Roll hall of Fame shortly before he died. I read these comments one week after Taylor’s untimely passing. Taylor Hawkins was an absolute beast on the drums. Dave is a perfectionist with a vision and sets incredibly high standards for the musicians he shared the stage with. Percussion was something he didn’t take lightly and had a very hard time finding the perfect fit for the FF. Taylor was that musician. We will never see another Taylor and I’m afraid Dave knows this. I relish the memories Taylor and the band has left us. I hope we see FF again but I will understand if Dave closes this chapter of his career. A profound loss indeed. Peace to all the FF fandom with a collective sadness…RIP.

    Everlong lyrics
    Hello
    I've waited here for you
    Everlong
    Tonight, I throw myself into
    And out of the red
Out of her head, she sang
Come down and waste away with me
    Down with me
Slow, how you wanted it to be
    I'm over my head
Out of her head, she sang
    And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever be this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when
    She sang
    Breathe out
So I can breathe you in
    Hold you in
    And now
    I know you've always been
    Out of your head
Out of my head, I sang
    And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
You've got to promise not to stop when I say when

You're exactly right, Bill. :LL I was a particular kind (a 'for Dave' kind) of nervous the night of that last show.. But I knew I absolutely 'must do it'.. and sat there nervously (not knowing how they were planning to shape the show, entirely), yet awaiting ants-ily to hear what Dave would & wouldn't say.. And what kind of composure/fake-it-till-ya-make-it composure he would have.. what kind of mixture of nerves... Knowing he'd spent 33 glorious years doing all that.. The ups, downs, all of it.. and thenn 'the end'.
I did feel like I was losing a friend/dear family member of sorts. I ate lunch with him (dvr'd the show) for gosh sakes.. Good times.
Yes.. from Dave to friend Dave. He couldn't'a picked it any better. Makes me sad whenever I think of the line 🎶If anything could ever be this real forever.. If anything could ever be this good again..
Anyhow, all of that^ is a quicker whir/blur in my mind, but in type, it's lengthens the sad out, & is like I'm there again from 5 years ago..? Shit man.. 5 years, that hurts kinda.. I take a lotta comfort every now n again, in owning a Dave/Late Show mug I bought 3 years before the show ended. The way they did the blue of the mug, tootally reminds me of that reflective blue floor where he did the monologue 😊💜 When I look at it sometimes, I can just see him standing there, with his loafers, and GREY socks (he insisted with vigor they were never white, lol)..-- talking about crazy squirrels, or Spider Man, or street rats, or stinky subways 😝
Anyhow, sorry peeps, I just was transported to his last night, when I read the video description, as well as Bill's comment. ✌

So sad that Taylor wouldn't be joining to the next Letterman's show. He'll be missed! RIP Mr Hawkins for all the best time hearing your great drumming full of power, your smile and your awesome attitude. Man, you always bring joys to everyone near you. Such a positive guy. Foos would never be the same without you! RIP ❤

It's hard to process all the talent going on in this video. Dave, Taylor, Pat, Chris, Nate ... all of them ... so great. But especially the Dave and Taylor dynamic. I'm still in denial.

Franz is probably the most underrated former member of the Foos man. From an influential punk band like scream taking Dave in to Dave doing the same. It’s really emotional.

When Nandi challenged Dave to an Everlong drum off, I heard Dave say he hasn’t played it since he recorded it for the album. Taylor has the job of playing it. Dave said he had forgotten how hard it is to play.

So cool that Dave truly loved bands like Foo Fighters, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam. - Btw, after hearing of Taylor Hawkins death I was playing this song, one of my favorites ever, on the drums. I got about halfway through before my arms turned to jelly. Taylor must've been in incredible shape to still be playing tours at my age. RIP Taylor
Thanks for the video, esp the story at 11:15.

OG Version with Franz Stahl is the best. I love the sound of the one in 2011too but the first one is intense as hell, just makes you wonder how much impact a replacing of just one of the crew makes on the whole perception of the track. He just adds that slight dark tone to the flow which makes the track the legend that it is..

Hey Don... I can't tell you how much I appreciate the work you do, compiling these. I know you don't get much back, monetarily, from doing this. So, in short: thank you and... you're excellent at what you do.
Can I throw in a request for a compilation I'm almost surprised you haven't created yet? A BONNIE HUNT compilation. Her and Dave's interactions were some of the best in the the late 80s (?) and the 90s. I'm sure you have a long list of requests... but thought I'd throw this out there. In any case THANKS for all you do!
