It's not 3 years until next month, but I'm going to be super busy the next few weeks/months so I thought I would edit this and upload it now :)
Well.
When I first saw Murphy 3 years ago I would never have dreamed he would turn out how he did! He was not very pretty, clean or talented and I really only got him because i wanted ANY horse after waiting for 13 years. I had been looking for my own horse my whole life and I was just so excited to have him I didn't even think about wether he would be good or not! He was scared of his own shadow and didn't even know how to walk on a lead rope. You couldn't even pet him. It was so frustrating finally having a horse after all those years and not even being able to pet him without it being a big deal.
He fought me at every turn for the first few months and I came so close to giving up because he was scaring me and just didn't want to work with me. But then, something clicked. We started to build a friendship, and gradually he started wanting to do what I asked. I learned about asking instead of telling, and Murphy's kind attitude made me cry on many occasions as he taught me that I could get him to do things by being gentle and asking nicely instead of forcing. He has literally taught me so much and made me a better, kinder rider.
It's been a hard journey with lots of ups and downs, but I really love this little horse with all my heart and can't wait to see what another year brings :) He really is a perfect disaster :] he's been worth all the battles! It's amazing for me to look back and see how we have both grown together and learned so much from each other!

p.s. i frequently get asked why he was so dirty and why I didn't clean him. I got Murphy in february and he was caked in mud with a winter coat that wasn't budging. He was terrified of being petted, so it was very difficult to groom him properly. Trying to get the muck out was actually hurting him it was so caked in. So I had to do it gradually over time and wait for his winter coat to fall out eventually.

So glad to hear you found that by asking instead of forcing this beautiful horse you achieved more goals. I just wish all horse people would understand that horses never need to be hit, whipped or even yelled at. Instead they need only love and a kind and gentle hand always asking permission to ride them or to jump them or to even groom them. Once a horse trusts that you will never hurt them they are willing to do anything for you. Natural horsemanship is the only way. I wish all horse people would study natural horsemanship.

I LOVE this. There are so many "journey" videos on here and most of them are just crap where people are over exaggerating how "bad" their horses are ect to make them look better, but I am so genuinely impressed by this one. He's awesome! I'd never of thought he could jump like that from the first few videos (not meaning to sound snobby or anything!) but he's awesome

I thought you got Murphy as a pretty good horse, done things, and that he was a little experienced! Not this! You both went through so many things, but you went through them together! You never gave up on him, even when he was scared of something silly. You stuck with him, and you have turned him into the confident, amazingly gorgeous horse he is today!
You deserve this horse, and he deserves you too! Awesome job!

This is a wonderful example of a perfect friendship. It is only apparent that both of you enjoy being together. Murphy loves his life now and is now able to relax and be himself. He loves to play! Kudos to both of you!

I watch this video everyday because I want to start training horses and whenever I think "Im not smart enough, I'm not strong enough... I'm just not good enough." This video always gives me hope because look at what you did for him. He went from a "dangerous", scared, unhanded horse to a safe, rideable, lovable companion. Just by watching this it tells me that I can do this no matter how smart, strong, or old I am. Thank you so much because without you, I would have given up a long time ago.

I came to this via a suggested video of you and your friend with Murphy and her horse. This video followed straight after and I was absolutely blown away by where Murphy started. What you two have achieved together is just amazing.

I get chills! It's so amazing to see how far you've come with him and how he trust you now. When he got scared of the water he really believed in you and did it anyways. That is a very rare friendship that is worth more then enything else. You have a really beautiful horse and you should be proud of the work you have done with him :)
