love this guy. wish I was in your state. Watched this video before going in to get repair. I have a G6 Pontiac, 2006. Drove car for 14 years, original muffler exhaust system. Then this guy tries to tell me that it's normal for the repairs I did at the very end of Dec. 2019 to be going bad 1.5 yrs later. Just play a woman for stupid and stand back and watch how that shit goes for ya. Before I even went I researched, familiarized myself. And I watched what they did when they repaired the whole thing the 1st time. The guy used a straight pipe instead of installing a front flex pipe and now it backed up the rest of the system. Said I didn't need that front flex pipe. Wish I had made more of a stink about it at the time. Now I'm headed back to the same shop to ask them to make it right and of course, surprise, they are trying to tell me I need a whole new system. Bull Shit. The rest of us out here appreciate these videos. Thank You!!

LOL, Thanks! No it's in the front because the engine has movement and exhaust needs to flex a little or eventually it will crack or create too much vibration.

What about the 05 Chrysler 300??? I have a clogged catalytic converter (at least that’s what this mechanic said) and he mentioned a flex pipe..
That’s two different problems. The catalytic converter is not related to a flex pipe. You probably need both.

Depends on the vehicle and how hard it’s to access but should be no more than $125.00 if someone else installs it.

They all can be different, you have the measure it front and back of where it would be cut out.

They are specific to your particular vehicle. They come in all sizes.

How do you fit the flex pipe over both ends where there is not enough room in between the old flex pipe?
They make different lengths and diameter just measure what you need and buy the closest size.

So what if I put a regular pipe there that isn’t flex like the old one? What would happen?
You'll get more vibration than normal and it puts more stress on the manifold and can cause more problems.
Is the flex pipe located near components of a/c system and would a cracked and leaking flex pipe wreck the wires and hoses to the a/c causing the compressor to give out? I've had 3 rear end hits to my KIA Sportage 2011 2.4L EX. Had to replace muffler and flex pipe but compressor went as well just need to know if related and if possible the accidents and hot air escaping the flex pipe affected wiring and caused a/c leaks and ultimately compressor to go because people think I'm crazy that all this started after 2 nd rear end hit
Just look under the car and see if the flex pipe is near any wiring. I don’t think so on your vehicle. I believe it comes out the back in the middle and AC is on the side front of engine.
@@motorcarnut Thanks. I will get my dad to take a look. I thought the flex pipe hooked on to the motor near the manifold. The radiator/A/C guy had a piece open under my rig near the passenger front seat and front passenger side tire that's where he said it was located which seemed a bit weird. From the videos I've watched the compressor seems to be located up front there and u have to take off a body mount to get to it. So I figured if it was connected to the motor (flex pipe) near the manifold, that could be near those wires and melt them causing an electrical issue, or the rear impacts could have pushed the exhaust forward and cracked the line especially after finding out the low pressure line goes to the back of the vehicle. Love these videos. Thanks for the feedback. Everything helps when you are a girl asking questions at shops and to insurance adjusters. I get lied to alot but I'm a researcher and persistent. I pay enough for insurance and have never missed a payment so if something gets wrecked on my vehicle from 3 hits that were not my fault, yeah I will definitely not take no for an answer because these things cost money, and I pay enough out to them people every month. I just got it back from autobody shop tonight. Will get to lift it up and we will take a look and talk to my electrical guy about the wiring. Thanks for your input. I appreciate.

@@tambourine36No way flex pipe leak would affect AC compressor. The two are far apart.
Clamps leak and 02 sensors pick it up
They won't leak if you do them properly. You have to use the proper size diameter pipes and clamps and could use a little sealer on the inside of the pipes before clamping them down.
I noticed the shop that had given me a new flex pipe gave me a smaller one than the original. Should that necessarily be a concern? Thanks.
Do you mean the diameter or the flex part of the pipe? Diameter should be considerable smaller.
@@motorcarnut I'm talking length. The flexible mesh surface shorter. Which ultimately could only mean less flex. Now I'm thinking they took the easy way out. Because a bigger one would have been that the need to do more work to get it to fit. It's up in the car near the engine area closer to the engine manifold.
It should of been replaced with the same one but you should be fine, I wouldn’t worry too much.

You can use the regular U exhaust clamps or have it welded in

The length of the flex part doesn't matter as long as the total length is the same as the one you're replacing and of course the diameter as well.
I'm guessing you are talking about at 0:24 where the old one has a larger diameter, and you are correct, it does but also notice the length of the mesh material is much shorter on the old one. The reason is that flex pipes are not only flexible along their sides but also compression/expansion flexible, meaning that if the length is compressed like he likely did when removing the old one, then the sides bulge out as a result. This ability is needed to allow the part to be installed between two rigid fixed points. If he stretched it back so the length matched the new part, the sides would pull back in and have the same relative diameter.

Cheap things happen to be expensive at the end..
I tried replacing my flex pipe with this cheap flex pipe and it couldn't last for even 3 months. The material used to make them aren't durable like the original and it's a complete waste of money. Go for the original and thank me later..
Cheap as far as replacing just what is needed. Flex pipes are made of stainless and steal. If your repair only lasted 3 months, maybe it’s not the part but who did the repair? There is no reason to replace perfectly good steel with a factory one for 5 times the price if you follow my video correctly.
I own a shop abd this guy is talking about the engine out the way and doing the job I got paid 300 to do this job and I still don’t wana do it bc the space is tight you gotta use a Origen and acetylene torch heat up the nuts than cut one end off the flex pipe get the connector off the manifold than weld one end of the flex pipe and the other end when you install it
All vehicles are different, some are easier than others. I'm not talking about the engine removed either that would be ridiculous. I'm trying to help the diyer.
