  • PlayStation 5 is here with a new AMD CPU, GPU, and an ultra fast SSD. With a new height of graphical fidelity on consoles, let's take a walk down memory lane and start with the original PlayStation. What advancements were cutting edge for their time? What was it like working on each Sony console? What tools were available to developers? From PS1, to PS2, PS3, PS4, and today with PS5 - we'll look at it all. Technology is an incredible thing, and the PlayStation brand has ebb and flowed through it all. Thanks Ken Kutaragi! Now bring back Polygon Man, he wasn't so bad. Matter of fact, let's see another PlayStation All Stars. (And maybe also another MotorStorm).

      @Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad yeah. sometimes i don't understand why people want 4k 60fps so badly, back on ps2 we had bad resolution with the og cables and all, but the games were sooo great, and ran very smoothly for most games. sure, i don't mind having a better resolution with 60fps, it looks sharp and smooth, and you can see things better on-screen (some games on ps2 had small text and it was almost impossible to read), but i prefer having more fps than higher resolution. it's all about the gameplay.

    PS2 was such a great time to play videogames, especially being a kid. So many games, so much discovering and innovation. Racing games, horror games, platform games, adventure, JRPG's, playing was so simple as well, no MTX nonsense or online paying. We really took for granted those years...

    Looking at this makes me realize that the graphics leap in each generation doesn't cease to amaze me. I have to admit that PS3 to PS4 was still a huge leap. PS4 to PS5 isn't a negligible leap either, despite the fact that games do look amazing on PS4.

    • @Makneuro07
      @Makneuro07 3 года назад +1

      Honestly ps3 to 4 wasn't a big leap. The last big leap was ps1 to 2

    • @fpereira77
      @fpereira77 3 года назад +4

      @@Makneuro07 hmm I don't know.
      PS1 and PS2 are obviously in different leagues. PS2 and PS3 was a breathtaking step forward as well. You just can't compare the levels of realism achieved. I remember looking at early gameplay footage of Assassin's Creed and being amazed at how everything seemed so realistic. It only got better as years gone by.
      Then, from PS3 to PS4 it seemed like it were the little things that made the biggest difference (textures and general photorealism).
      Now from 4 to 5 it seems like it's once again the big things that make the difference, but in a different way. It's the sheer SCALE of the visual effects that blow me away. This is just a dumb example, but if you have 1000 particles in the scene of a PS4 game you have 50 000 on that same scene on the PS5 version of the game. That makes a big difference.

I stopped gaming regularly somewhere during the 6th generation (PS2/GCN/XBOX/Dreamcast) and then aside from handhelds and Nintendo systems I basically stopped following modern gaming. I've owned a PS3 for about 4 years or so now and I really want to get into some of the "modern" games (Fallout, Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, The Last of Us, etc.) and I just get.... confused. I don't quite understand it all. I grew up on the NES and then the Genesis and then SNES and so on. Shit was simple as hell. Lester Dale O'riley I agree like it is weird. I find that when you have 2 used systems. Say a fat PS2 with scuffs and marks versus a slim, I think the slim has the edge (only because it is not as easy to see any marks or blemishes). With that being said, if you have a fat PS2 versus the slim and both have little to no marks...imo the fat looks way better every time. Also, the fact that you can install a hard drive into the fat model will always make it have a place in my heart haha.

      I’m definitely excited for the huge gains in loading speed. That alone makes the upgrade worth it for me, but of course 60fps in most games is a huge draw as well. Tho it sucks to sacrifice ray tracing for 60 in games like Spider-Man.

    • @Drstrange3000
      @Drstrange3000 3 года назад +1

      @@SamAdamsDesigns Loading speed will be wonderful in RPG's and open worlds. I notice those really tend to take a while. Ghost of Tsushima is already a taste of what's to come. I'm not sure if I want ray tracing or 60 fps. I gotta see how RT looks. I'm the most worried about my wallet... 😗

      It would be nice if every game gave more graphics options. For example I still use a 1080p tv. If there’s a 1080p mode that has both RT and 60... I’d definitely just stick to that.
