One last thing - the BIGGEST lesson I have learned from trying the Dickey method for myself, is that is can be used on all hair types including very very tight coily 4c hair. Cuz that is what is on my head. All this madness of 4c hair has no curls, no definition needs to stop. I'll be damned if I put my 4c hair in a box or with limits anymore.

I’ve been doing his method for a few years. Anthony is the reason I never do twist outs. I rather do wash n gos. I have type 4 hair.
The more I did this method the softer my hair became. I have a stand-up dryer (like the ones at the salon) Game changer. $100 on Amazon. My hair dries about 85% in 10 min. I live in NJ. I do wash ngos all year long. I understand the comments about $$$. Trick for those curly gals is to find an inexpensive thick conditioner. I used the Trader Joe’s tea tree leave in. The Cantu for natural hair is decent. I’m super extra n love to spend $$ on my hair. I love my hair.
    Good luck.

Ditto. This method just works and like you said, you don’t have to use expensive products. The routine is the key to having moisture rich hair. And everyday i just wake up (and my hair is in that squished state), i spray it well with water and shake it and it falls into place (not squished anymore), then go about my day. I don't really think every day is necessary, more like every 3 or 7, and just refresh with water(some moisture stuff in it if you want)/shake it into place. 👌

I’ve been doing something similar. I wash n go once a week. During the week, at the end of my shower, I run my head under the shower head 2-4 seconds and then shake my hair to reactivate the product while I’m still in the shower. For me, that helps maintain the moisture in my hair and my hair is still defined.

My routine is about 20-25 minutes ;my hair is a tad shorter than yours. I sit under the hooded dryer about 45 to an hour. I catch up on reading the Bible, checking emails, etc during that time under the dryer. I stretch my curls with my handheld dryer in the mornings and repeat the process nightly.

I usually redo my wash and go’s every 2-3 days. In between those days, I put my hair into 5 ponytails before I go to sleep. In the morning, I let the steam from my shower soften my hair, then I take down the ponytails and let my hair fall into place. Then, I use my fingers and a pick to style. My entire wash and go + styling process takes less than 30 minutes (not including drying).

It's great for gym bunnies and those who get wet a lot but for thick dense hair.. No! The product usage was an issue... I was getting through product so quickly and I don't even have much hair!! That is what I tell people. I have type 4 hair and I love wash n gos. I use strong hold gels. The gel actually keps my hair in place, the detangeld state so when I wash it next time it isn't tangled so there isn't much detangling to do. Its so easy. That's why I always tell people to use gels with hold, it doesn't have to be drying. It will keep your hair in that detangled state and will be so much easier next wash day. And I do my wash n gos every 3-7 days depending. I never wait for it to frizz out otherwise it defeats the point. It'll get tangeld if its frizzy and also it doesn't dry out cause you're rewashing before it gets super dry. Great video!

  • @RochelletheRealtor
    @RochelletheRealtor 3 года назад +31

It’s doable daily with some modifications on what you’re doing. For me, it hasn’t been necessary to do it daily. I do it every two to three days, but my process is faster than yours. I soak my hair in the shower, cowash with a heavy, cheap moisturizing conditioner, do what I need to to get the curls to form, rinse, and then add more conditioner as my styler. Then I add oil, shape it like I want it, and I’m done.
I then wrap it in a T-shirt while I get dressed. Then I defuse, then use the concentrator nozzle. It’s perfect. My shower takes 12 minutes with cowashing and drying takes maybe 15. I pineapple at night with a scarf and wear it again a second day.
I get so many compliments on my hair and questions about what I’m doing. I’ve been natural for 8 years and that wasn’t happening before.

No. Your curls have to be super defined like hers with product to withstand the weight of the T-shirt. Just make sure it is more wrapped loosely around your head than tight like you see people do with towels. Just don’t overdry it with the T-shirt. I washed my hair on Sunday (meaning shampoo, deep conditioner, then cowash) and I think I left the T-shirt on too long. It seems to have sucked up all of my products and it dried out by the end of the day.

Tip from someone using this method, put a shower cap on your head to get your shirt on so it doesn’t disturb the curls.
I use this method and have been trying to use it for the last 5 months or so and it’s all about technique, product plays a role yes but once you get the technique down, it gets quicker and your hair becomes trained to it. You should focus on your roots as well when using conditioner to avoid as much frizz as possible.

I tried the Dickey Method about a year or so ago. I used my own products. It works and I think I did it for one week and it was a wrap. I don’t feel like washing/cowashing my hair every day. I now feel like that is too much manipulation for my hair. I wash and go and don’t do my hair again until 6-7 days. One thing I always do though is shake my head after the products are applied because it really helps form the curls.

45 min WHILE filming? Plus your hair is long and thick. Honestly that’s much better than I thought.

Now that im a Dickey girl, I rarely if ever, use detangling tools. How can we have tangles, if we moisture at that level every day or at least every other day. I'm a fan!!! I do mine every 3 -4 days. I do mine in the evening after the kids have gone to bed and dry under a hooded dryer, then pull up into a pineapple and let the shower steam refresh in the morning. It gets soo much easier as times goes. 30mins at the moment.

Sooooo, I have 4C hair, and it took me a while to build up the nerve to try his method. I had a few things to consider. How early do I need to get up, what kind of routine will I use, and what products will I use. When my hair is straight, it goes down past my waist, so I needed to find a more affordable product line. Not many products work well with my hair, or they are way too expensive. I wanted to find more than one different product line because sometimes it gets to the point where that product stops working as well as it once was. It took a long time and a lot of money to find the right product. I had to establish a routine. Once I figured that out, I started doing daily wash n go's in March. I'm very happy with it! I no longer detangle outside of the shower. Very little shedding! It still is a learning curve. I discovered the hard way that I have to wait until my hair is completely dry before putting it in a ponytail/bun. Breakage! During the summer, I went to work with wet hair. It takes all day to dry. I will try the mousse to see if that will help. I need a haircut to give it a shape, otherwise it looks ok. It takes me about 30 minutes ish in the shower. My hair is in the best shape ever!

To save time some days, I just pull my hair in a bun while wet if I don’t want to do the whole drying process-slick it with a little gel, tie it down, and put a turban towel over my head to soak up water. Then I get dressed and what not and go on about my day! The dryer and drying time def makes it a bigger production. I’m so glad you tried and shared your experience with us ☺️

After I come out the shower with drenched product soaked hair. I carefully put my hair in a tshirt. A large T-shirt. Twist it up in the shirt. Get dressed eat do make up. By the time I leave all the excess is sopped up. Then it just air dries from there.
    All in all
    Shower and style-10 min
If I choose to diffuse after the tshirt then another 10 min. Because I’m only trying to dry the roots since the tshirt took most of the excess.
    20 min total
But honestly wrapping it up in a tshirt while I do other things dries it enough for me.

I've watched a lot of hair tubers. I'll say at least 24. If this is what supplements your income or is your income be prosperous. Some of us like myself have hair that is thin, fragile - high porosity hair. My biggest challenge is moisture. I have experienced hydra fatigue. How do I know, since I do not own a microscope? Clumps of my hair will just fall off. (Trust me I am monitoring this as at times this may be a sign of an internal health issue- not looking for answers just stating an observation) I am watching you for the first time, only one time. I wanted to comment because most may not know what hydra fatigue is. So these daily wash and gos may be a no no for some. I know you are sharing & your platform may be about other topics. After watching at least 100 videos I've sifted through, I found out about this hydra fatigue. In my regimen right now, about once a month, two months, or 3 months I put in a mask of four powders, amla, fenugreek, henna, and aloe. I tried putting a natural oil like olive oil in this mix to combat the drying effect. I felt oil coats so I did not want the oil to prevent the powders from penetrating. Again after recalling the many videos, I watched, I decided in 2 weeks, when my next treatment is due, I would put HONEY! in that mix to combat the drying effects. I stopped by to share as you are sharing. Prosperity to you and yours. Since I am not a hair tuber, I did just do a one minute update on my hair on Instagram - wordgripaction. So my point is to beware of hydra fatigue.

I don’t wash every day but I use daily conditioner (Giovanni 50/50) and really focus on smoothing my hair shaft too. I also add a little wetline and smooth smooth smooth before a final short rinse with water, shake, shake shake, scrunch with a microfiber towel (to cut down on drying time) and use the dyson diffuser to dry it just enough to stop the dripping and VOILÀ! Bottom line is take bits and pieces and DO YOU BOO! Love watching your journey. Love your spirit as always! ❤️

When I wear my hair in wash ‘n gos, I don’t do a full wash and product reapplication every morning. I simply do not wear a shower cap and “let” my hair get wet, either by shower mist, spray or a QUICK dunk under the water. This reactivates the product that’s already in my hair. Then I SHAKE, WHIP, SPIN and SHAKE some more (most important step IMO). From there, I’m good to go! About one minute extra shower time. No drying/defusing because my hair is not soaked!😽👍🏽

Cool! I’ve been doing this every morning since I big chopped 2 years ago! And honestly my hair is always so manageable (I guess because I’m managing it daily 😅)and soft and beautiful ❤️ but conditioners are expensive so I use a Shea butter mix or a light oil 🌸🥰

I would not do this daily Latoya. Maybe twice a week! 👍🏾🤷🏾‍♀️

I tried this method and it works. I don’t buy his products because of the amount of product I need and the cost. I need cheaper products. Also, I do this during warmer months because I like to air dry. It’s too cold in Jersey right now for this.

I could probably do it. I would probably go for the walk after if it’s warmer outside so I don’t get a cold. I don’t have any kids though so it’s more feasible for me.

I dont think you should use the No Sud Cond every day. Starting with wedding the hair extreme and then de 2 second conditioner

The wash and go method works for you. I still haven’t mastered and I have a TWA. I’m working on it. My favorite media child in the video, love it.

You kept missing the roots at the top of your head hun ..but this method can work with the CHEAPEST co-wash & conditioners (actually it's meant for them) he kept reiterated that in the video that he did with you

Plus, you end up always having to wear your hair in its shrunken state. My hair looks best after one or two weeks when my wash n go is big and fluffly!

The one thing I feel like that's missing from the conversation around this method, is the cost and the product involved. To keep this up every single day it looks like you'd be going through a jar of conditioner and a jar of styling gel every couple of days that adds up quickly.

I'm not a "single parent" any more, but I do own a business and I've been doing this for 5+ years. I can go 3-4 days now, just spraying with water daily and shaking to refresh every morning, and using products with high slip. It works for me, because I don't have time or energy to do anything else. I also don't mind wet hair so I don't diffuse, but some products dry quicker than others.
That shirt moment though...that is a thing!!! 😂😂😂

YES I feel like mousse is seriously slept on by people with tighter curls

You're right I've never even used mousse on my hair because I wasn't sure if it was for Type 4 hair. What mousse's do you recommend?

@@zacharydrake156 My go to has been the design essentials one (and it smells SO good but has silicones if you pay attention to that) but I've recently liked the aunt jackie's grapeseed one. I literally never do a wash and go without mousse now. I think it shapes and clumps my curls really well and then I add hold with gel so it lasts

Issa no for me too. I’m not a working mom but I do go to work and there isn’t enough time in the day to do wash n go’s like this. My hair takes a long time to dry and I’m not leaving the house with wet hair. I tried moisture training my hair twice a week and I have my hair cut short and it was still annoying. I love the definition you got doing this though. I’ve found that I can get away using leave in and wetline extreme gel and it makes my curls stay until I can wash my hair again.
