It needs 90% alchohol because when you add the aloe vera gel it will dilute the alchohol to around 47% 50% which is useless. The cdc says that it has to be 70% and up. So get the highest percentage of alchohol. Most likley 90 through 95 and if your germofobe then use 99% alchohol. Like if this helped and also your welcome.

Recipe starts at 2:35 Use two parts 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol and one part aloe vera gel. If desired, to make it smell better, you can use a _couple of drops_ of any essential oil you like, but it’s not necessary.
2/3 cup of 99% isopropyl alcohol, and 1/3 cup of aloe vera gel, mixed. You can add a drop or two of essential oils for smell; no more than that, or you'll dry out your skin. Saved you four minutes.

If you don't like using an essential oil that has a smell to it, simply add in a 1/4 tsp of vitamin E oil and mix. Vitamin E oil has been the key ingredient in many skin care products for decades since it can fight against free radicals and protect your skin from damage. It also has moisturizing and healing properties that help to boost the barrier function of your skin.

Well you can use xonrox or bleach mix it in the water to disinfect your surroundings, you can also use it to wash you hands, if bleach and soap not available you can you water and chlorine to disinfect,. Another tips. If you can't buy tissue paper because of the hoarders all you need is - Water, a deeper and a soap, we Filipino's usually doing that to washed our butts. Well it's up to you if you don't want to take my advice or tips :)
@demi m jones well according to DOH. Phil. 9:1 9 part of waters and 1 part of bleach. You can also google it. :) it's safe as long as you just put mild bleach or chlorine. Just don't touch your eyes and mouth
I found a gallon jug of 98.9% Aloe Vera Gel which is drinkable and is supposed to be good for you, I got at Walmart, but it isn’t gel like at all, it’s more liquified, is this ok to use for your sanitizer along with your alcohol and oil? And if so, would it still work as good as the sanitizers we buy in stores? Thank you in advance!

Because sometimes, and hear me out, you HAVE TO GO TO THE STORE TO GET FOOD. So I keep hand sanitizer in my car because there's no sink with soap and water in my car. Just saying.... After touching the buttons at the cash register, the handle of the shopping cart, the food, the bags, etc. I don't want to touch my steering wheel. I load up my trunk, I use the hand sanitizer in my car, which I'm now afraid of running out of, and when I get home, I wash my hands, and unload the groceries. I need a solution for when the sanitizer in my car runs out because that day IS coming, and since everyone is hoarding it, I'll be SOL. By the way, these are things I always did well before there was a pandemic because it's the sanitary thing to do.

I'm from the UK, and I've watched a few presenters from the US. This lady above is so loud and shouty and constantly interrupting. Another, programme I watched was when an American news channel with 3-4 presenters were interviewing a retired British nurse, they constantly interrupted him when he had valuable information to speak of. I have no idea how people can watch these programmes and learn anything when the presenters act so rude, what is with them always being so shouty?? So, it's important to clean your wrists as well Think about using antibacterial wipes- on car door handles- inside and out, gear stick, steering wheel, boot, and please don't forget your mobile phones. The best way- is regular cleaning of hands, children are not encouraged enough to wash their hands and this should be basic regardless of this current virus.

Thanks for the instructions! I made this, but the essential oil scent didn't come through. We also need to remember that if we have pets, there are certain essential oils that are poisonous to them!
if the essential oil is not a top quality oil it's useless and if it has fragrance as an ingredient, well fragrances can be carcinogenic! The EO she used look like an inferior brand probably adulterated. There are essential oils that have been researched and tested and found to have antiviral properties that repel viruses and may enhance the action of the hand sanitizer not just make it smell nice.

I made home made sanitizer i mixed aloe vera gel with spirit but i feel like i put too much spirit in it smell was too much and while using it had a lot of smell too so how to put some fragrance in it
Please ignore the nonsense currently being espoused by lots of people (including this video) regarding cold water hand washing. It's true that warm water doesn't kill viri any better than cold water does. The reason to use WARM water is because it improves ionization of the soap with oil, sweat, grunge far better/faster than cold water does. You MUST break through the grunge to get to the contagion. Otherwise the viri can be isolated within the grunge, protected from the soap and remain on your hands. Have you ever had really greasy hands and washed them in cold water? It works but takes much longer. If you have only cold water then increase scrub time, increasing time the colder the water is. You may also need to double wash if it's very cold.
Mixing what you're attempting to make with a kitchen spoon is not the way to do this.. If the aloe and alcohol are not properly incorporated into each other the resulting product will be ineffective . Also the addition of essential oils is absolutely unnecessary and only helps to dilute the percentage of alcohol in the mix.. Please people..Consult the C.D.C. website for more accurate information.
Excellent point. Extremely well said. Homemade hand sanitizer can be dangerous ineffective because it is rarely done properly. Essential oils themselves, can actually burn the skin and can be dangerous to certain individuals. Aloe not mixed properly with the alcohol can absolutely result in an ineffective product. Commercial mixers and thickening agents are the proper tools for formulating hand sanitizer which is actually illegal to sell in Most states as it is an over the counter drug. If you cannot find it in stores, please use soap and water which is the best tool that most people have.
I'll save you 5 minutes. 2 parts 90+% alcohol + 1 part aloe vera gel. That's it. You can add a few drops of something that smells nice.
Add just a squirt of vodka to get to smell proper.
Why 90% when that's not even the amount in germX?
Because it's 2 parts, so it's 60% (which the CDC recommends as the minimum) when dissolved into the gel.
So in a 100ml travel bottle 75ml is alcohol and 25ml glycerine or aloe vera.
Out of store alcohol...vodka or other clear spirit ...if it's 60% that's 120 proof...so to keep it high go for 180 proof

Everclear works in a pinch, even the 151 proof stuff, it will just be 5 parts alcohol 1 part aloe vera gel, to keep the alcohol % above 60.

I used aloe vera plant. I already had rubbing alcohol. But also, the best way is to use good old fashioned soap and water.
Dr bronner's peppermint soap is great to wash your hands with plus it has a great scent

How do I get it as thick as the real one? Now you’re know some of you will say add more gel but adding more gel will make it less effective.
I like the idea of making my own hand sanitizer, but I have no idea *where* in my local grocery store I'd find aloe vera gel. I've never seen it before while cruising up and down the aisles. Any ideas where I should look?

Aloe vera gel is hard to find right now also. I ordered online and it is backordered.
You can just use ethyl alcohol 70% only .You can just pour some in a spray bottle so it can be used easily and it's even better than hand sanitizers
You can also use glycerin. Just make sure that the alcohol concentration of your final product does not drop below 60%

I'm from the UK, and I've watched a few presenters from the US. This lady above is so loud and shouty and constantly interrupting. Another, programme I watched was when an American news channel with 3-4 presenters were interviewing a retired British nurse, they constantly interrupted him when he had valuable information to speak of. I have no idea how people can watch these programmes and learn anything when the presenters act so rude, what is with them always being so shouty??
I'm sure all programmes can't be like this in the US, but I've watched a fair few now, and I just can't tolerate the brashness of it. Please respect your guests and talk in a calm manner and at an appropriate volume level.
Just to let others know- there was an article saying that people aren't using hand sanitizer correctly because they were not using it on their wrists. So, it's important to clean your wrists as well
Think about using antibacterial wipes- on car door handles- inside and out, gear stick, steering wheel, boot, and please don't forget your mobile phones.
The best way- is regular cleaning of hands, children are not encouraged enough to wash their hands and this should be basic regardless of this current virus.

if the essential oil is not a top quality oil it's useless and if it has fragrance as an ingredient, well fragrances can be carcinogenic! The EO she used look like an inferior brand probably adulterated. There are essential oils that have been researched and tested and found to have antiviral properties that repel viruses and may enhance the action of the hand sanitizer not just make it smell nice.

Can you use spirit?
I made home made sanitizer i mixed aloe vera gel with spirit but i feel like i put too much spirit in it smell was too much and while using it had a lot of smell too so how to put some fragrance in it
Please ignore the nonsense currently being espoused by lots of people (including this video) regarding cold water hand washing. It's true that warm water doesn't kill viri any better than cold water does.
The reason to use WARM water is because it improves ionization of the soap with oil, sweat, grunge far better/faster than cold water does. You MUST break through the grunge to get to the contagion. Otherwise the viri can be isolated within the grunge, protected from the soap and remain on your hands.
Have you ever had really greasy hands and washed them in cold water? It works but takes much longer.
If you have only cold water then increase scrub time, increasing time the colder the water is. You may also need to double wash if it's very cold.

Mixing what you're attempting to make with a kitchen spoon is not the way to do this.. If the aloe and alcohol are not properly incorporated into each other the resulting product will be ineffective . Also the addition of essential oils is absolutely unnecessary and only helps to dilute the percentage of alcohol in the mix.. Please people..Consult the C.D.C. website for more accurate information.
Excellent point. Extremely well said. Homemade hand sanitizer can be dangerous ineffective because it is rarely done properly. Essential oils themselves, can actually burn the skin and can be dangerous to certain individuals. Aloe not mixed properly with the alcohol can absolutely result in an ineffective product. Commercial mixers and thickening agents are the proper tools for formulating hand sanitizer which is actually illegal to sell in Most states as it is an over the counter drug. If you cannot find it in stores, please use soap and water which is the best tool that most people have.
