This is why Jack is the GOAT. He drove 300 with ancient equipment. The irons were basically spoons, the putters were butter knives. And that’s just the equipment. Today’s courses are pristine, flawless. Yes, greens are faster. But have you seen how lumpy the greens were back then? Plus, think about all the on course data players have today (greens undulations, wind speeds, etc).
Not forgetting that back in the day of wooden head drivers PING we’re classed as easier to hit because the heads were larger & more forgiving than McGregor & Titelist.
Love my G425 Max driver! As a kid, I started out playing woods made of wood. Could not imagine going back to those "Dark Ages" -- the results would be brutal.
hey guys sending love from korea. i just bought my dad a g425 as a surprise present and waiting for it to arrive. so seeing this pop up is a nice surprise, always grateful for the great contents.
I did a test recently with G425 Max vs Eye 2 driver. My results were shocking! Better dispersion with the Eye 2, but I don’t hit it nearly as consistent as Thomas! Fun test!
Cool test. I did a very similar one on my channel with G425 Max vs Eye 2 driver! My results were vastly different. I didn’t experience the same inconsistencies with the wooden driver. My dispersion was actually tighter! Lol
I play these kind of clubs exclusively. My miss with modern equipment is always left. With a persimmon wood, I almost can’t draw the ball. I have to say that I appreciate being able to really swing and not worry about the left side of the fairway.
So true Jason. Jack and Bobby Jones, Billy Casper, Palmer were doing amazing things with the equipment they had. Think how many majors Jack would have won with a Callaway Rouge LS Triple Diamond in his bag.
Good test. I started out with wooden drivers and the modern drivers make the game way easier. Irons, not as great of a difference, in my experience at least.
I am 58 now. I remember as a teenager when I switch from a MacGregor Persimmon driver to a metal head and graphite shaft, I instantly gain 15 to 20 yards.
I keep the Ping Eye 2 7 wood in my bag. It’s got so much loft on it it’s like a pitching wood and I can’t find anything like it. Really good for hitting all types of shots from all kinda of lies.
I was thinking that Thomas could reach 275 yards carry with the Eye 1 and he actually did a little better. Well done and thanks for the interesting comparison. B-T-Y, that "wood" is a persimmon.
Not taking anything away from Thomas’ skill level, but wouldn’t it be cool if it was possible to have pro players from decades ago (Nicklaus, Palmer, Rodriguez, etc) compare these drivers using their skill level from when they were young. They grew up using “wood woods”. Hey, so did I. Should I compare drivers? I don’t think so!!
Thanks for watching. We sure appreciate having our other contributors on the channel and Danny is great! The majority of the videos will be Drew and I - Thomas

I just bought a G425 max. Straight and long thanks to a little bit of club fitting. Thanks Nate!

Should the new Ping shaft be shorter too to match the old?

Greasy kid stuff mate. I'm now 72 and hit it further than when I was 18.
Had no idea what to expect with this one lol :)

Compared to modern ping irons. It would be an 8.5 iron.

... Danny isn't in the video
@@deepee1544 Thanks. Corrected.
it’s maple laminate
@@lawbinson Too syrupy for me. My old Pinseeker is solid persimmon, lol.
@@JDSFLA 🤣
Physics of gear effect are the same now as they were 40 years ago, or at any other point in time.
surprisingly low spin there on the 1 wood
Says a lot about modern golf balls more than anything else

Less Thomas, more Danny!!!!!!
👎
