  • The most beautiful setting for a plein air paint & demonstration! But nothing is perfect with hordes of people and mobbed by flying ants...I still loved it though, hope you do too. It is the complete real time paint as I worked fast capturing the sunset as it happened.

    Hello Nick n Clare,
I'm assuming you travelled up from Cornwall to Dorset for the August Bank Holiday weekend. This is a really lovely spot in Dorset known locally as Durdle Door. It's a place I have visited many times over the years and surprisingly it has changed a lot, possibly due in part to erosion of the coastline in that region. The painting you have captured in this lovely scene is fraught with colours, from golden yellows reflecting the Sunlight, to variations in greens, although on this occasion the heatwave has burnt the grasses.
However, true to your style of painting, you have created a really lovely piece of artwork. The colours of the sky against the dark green shadow in the foreground is also very serene and beautiful to see.
The noise of the waves crashing into the shoreline was phenomenal and the beach was packed with the noises from the crowds also bring captured on video, adds to the harmony of the whole scene. Well done to for managing to put up with the flying ants and staying focused on the task in hand. Take care, enjoy your weekend. Patiently awaiting your next adventure.

Hello Paul, We are on a painting tour, been travelling for nearly 13 weeks over the summer. I've been wanting to paint Durdle Door in ages and picked one the of the busiest days of the year to do it!! But it was beautiful despite the flies. Glad you ahem had a chance to visit many times too. Best wishes, Clare

Funny - we were there a few years ago from Australia and I thought it had hardily changed at all from my childhood growing up in the UK, some 50 years ago now. Maybe that was in comparison to other changes like the awful things they've done at Lands End. The one thing I did notice was the pathway down to the beach you are painting. When I was a child, we used to go camping at Durdle Door a lot, but the only way to access it was by boat or abseiling. I think that's where my fear of heights came from - having to abseil that cliff. We mostly went to the beach on the other side though. That cliff was a killer to walk back up.

Clare, I have been .looking at your easel set up and notice you have your dispensed paint paint tucked up against the top of the easel on a strip of what looks like plastic. When you are finished painting do you remove it and seal it up in something to keep it from drying out? I have only seen this setup in British RUclips demos and wonder if there is something designed to hold dispensed paint and ,if so, what is it called?! OR, is this part of a certain kind of pochade box. Would be very handy!
