Cedar Fair is not saving money. They spent a record yearly spending for 2023 and I think it was around $300 million, so it is a huge year for Cedar Fair. I think more thrill rides will appear in 24 but not an insane amount since prices are only rising. Also, Silver Dollar City is already building an upgraded Fire in the Hole attraction that is expected to open in 24 which will most likely be a family coaster.

That actually isnt crazy, breaks down to about 27m a park which pre covid amount is around 22 a yr… i imagine that isn’t overly high for a park just in general maintenance and moderate upgrades… i mean a newly renovated bathroom top to bottom would cost around 4-500k depending on labor laws regarding unions in that state

2024 is the new 1994. We got nemesis, shockwave, big one. Atleast in the uk we are probably getting a new Drayton manor coaster. Alton towers sw9. Thorpe park exodus, and around the world we will probably get a new great adventure coaster for the 50th anniversary, new Busch gardens coaster, probably a new sea world coaster, top thrill dragster remake, maybe a new valleyfair coaster etc etc.

No kidding. Families make the parks the most money. Not enthusiasts, teenagers, or adults, families. Kids are more likely to ask their parents for cool things in the gift shop, more meals per group, more people per group, and better public image. No sane management would ever make the target demographic enthusiasts or teenagers, because they don’t make the parks money.

BGT Williamsburg, BGT Tampa, Seaworld Orlando, and Seaworld San Diego all have added major additions in the last 2 years. These parks aren’t adding massive additions so quickly. Six flags CEO also won’t be adding a ton of major additions with his cost cutting

I do agree with you in the sense that it logically would not make sense, but a lot of parks like BGW are already past the planning stage.

I disagree with the family trend just being temporary. Big coasters don't draw crowds like they did before and quite honestly technology has gotten so good there really isn't much more you can do with a coaster outside of theming. This all started a while back, Silver Bullet was a disaster for CF, STeVe was a disappointment even though it was arguably the best coaster in the world, Skyrush was too intense for the GP. (I'm not talking about the quality of the rides but rather the attendance impact) I think the coasters we see going forward will be more balanced and not completely bonkers like X2. That's a trend I don't going away anytime soon.

Looks like Kings Dominion will soon be releasing plans for Grizzly. No matter what the plans for the coaster, rest assured they will address the area. This section need some identity, with Dino's gone they have an opportunity to help Old Virginia extend or at least better transition into Candy Apple Grove.

To me parks are gonna go to more gp crowd pleasers the likes of boring b&m hypers in the future
Gonna be a bunch of tilts, dives b&m hypers etc. they are crowd pleasers
To me the intense coasters (skyrush, 305, even maverick) are gonna take a backseat now to a bunch of floater and gimmicky type rides.. hope i am wrong but even hersheys plans for wildcat seem very gp oriented (at first glance) and they could have absolutely done more, they have more room than ppl think esp with the mouse on its way out
Idk just thoughts that coasters like ice breaker are going to be the new norm for a little (hope im wrong) hopefully vekoma can put a boom back in

I love good coasters, they’re obviously the main draw to a park. But a park needs to be more than just coasters and so many are missing that complete experience. Phantasialand I’m Germany is tiny but makes an excellent visit as it’s quite well rounded with a mix of rides, excellent theming and great food too.

As much as Id Love it.... I dont agree. Corporate parks, especially CF, are ALL about precious per-caps and with the amount of that they will see with the family additions and themed areas they are going to be just like Congress and "stick with the status quo". They will continue to go with their bread and butter "low expense, high ROI" and as much as I think it sucks rocks, I cant blame them from a business standpoint because the facts are families spend a Hell of a lot more than thoosies ever have or will.

    • @TheCoasterJosh
      @TheCoasterJosh  Год назад

Thanks for the comment! While I agree that family additions generally give a higher ROI, especially in the short term, larger additions are needed for long term growth. Looking at this strictly in the business perspective, I agree with you that adding large multi million dollar additions in 2024 doesn’t exactly look wise.
However with that being said, it does look to indeed be happening regardless of what you or me think. In the Cedar Fair chain I think it is safe to assume that we would see at least 2 large scare coasters. The same with Seaworld and Six flags. At the very least the chain parks would be giving us 6+ large scale coasters and that is on the very conservative end of the spectrum. Not to mention what Hershend and other parks might do.
Anyways I think we are pretty much saying the same thing. I agree with you that they should theoretically stick to “low expense high ROI” but in reality I don’t think that will happen.
      -Josh :)

The reason theme parks are focused more on family-geared and less expensive coasters is due to inflation impacting cost of goods, raw materials, and logistics. From a business perspective it wouldn’t be wise to spend massive amounts on a coaster when the market is at a brink.
Also, it’s wiser to focus on families because they have expendable incomes.
