But now since they are having car issues the dealer doesn't want that vehicle back. So they want to just change the Vin # on the contract. That's illegal

I went to one of these sleazy dealerships once to try to buy a small truck that caught my eye. Their sign also said 'WE FINANCE.' When I told them I would pay cash for the vehicle they refused to sell it to me. Selling automobiles is just a sideline for these people. They're really financiers out to get as much money out of you as they can. With their high interest rates, the low price they quote you will end up costing you double by the time you pay it off.

My stepfather has owned his own body shop for 50 years and has a small lot but his cars are actually quality and even though they are used with no warranty, if something goes wrong within the first like six months he usually fixes it for free or at cost because he's a good person. Otherwise a car dealership could swap any car and later "adjust the VIN" so you'd never know for sure what car you test drove and what car you later drove off the lot. Seems like you could just return the car, you didn’t actually buy, then you go to the dealer and request the keys for the car you actually bought; if this doesn’t work call law enforcement as you have the legal paperwork showing ownership of the second car.

I would have someone take the right car for a "test" drive", drive it to her and exchange it for the wrong one. Then return the crappy car to the dealer and hand them the keys. After that, it's up to the dealer to fight to get it back
i would call the police and report the car on the contract stolen you legally can steal your own property back then i would drop the vehicle into the auto lot parking lot and then easy peasy take the paper work to another chevy dealer with the vin and they print you the keys
First off ... if you do decide to buy a car from these types of places, ALWAYS verify all numbers on the car and contract BEFORE driving off the lot. Second, always inspect the car yourself before driving it off the lot. (if you don't know about cars, take someone with you who does)

You have a bill of sale for a specific vehicle, why not just send a tow truck to go pick it up? Drop the wrong one off, pick up the correct one and hand in the keys. Yes you can go to court, and get all sorts of agencies involved which takes time, but you have proof it's your vehicle, just take it.

Take the contract to the audo dealership. Call the cops. Show them the contract and the vehicle with the matching VIN sitting on the lot and have the dealership charged with theft. Maybe from behind bars they will see things differently.
The dealer will quickly be singing a different tune now that they are under investigation. This woman legally owns the other Trax sitting on the lot, her new license plate belongs on this car still at the lot. Legally, the dealer has to either give her the car that is on the paperwork, or give a full refund. It would cause more legal trouble for the dealership if they were to dare to sell the Trax still on their lot, because it is no longer theirs to sell. Texas will not fool around, if not resolved they will treat this as straight fraud and send them to jail.

I worked for a used csr lot for a few months. As skeezy as they were, I actually did see them take back a few cars.
The answer is simple. Take the paperwork and demand teh other vehicle. When they refuse to hand over the keys call the police for auto theft.

The dealer will quickly be singing a different tune now that they are under investigation. This woman legally owns the other Trax sitting on the lot, her new license plate belongs on this car still at the lot. Legally, the dealer has to either give her the car that is on the paperwork, or give a full refund. It would cause more legal trouble for the dealership if they were to dare to sell the Trax still on their lot, because it is no longer theirs to sell. Texas will not fool around, if not resolved they will treat this as straight fraud and send them to jail.
Dealership??!! Try buy here die here trailer. Also, I understand not everyone is informed, but, buying a Chevy Trax, any older Trax, is insanity; especially from a fly by night place. The hair is another giveaway.
