I got to meet Phil in person at the doral tournament back in the 90's - he is the nicest and most cordial guy you could ever meet. His golf tip lessons are some of the best illustrations of how to hit a golf ball you could ever watch.
That was the beauty that was doing something about 6 in the hole there and they did it so quickly and even think about it that is really awesome and then it's just an easy putt for birdie
Many thanks for a very good explanation and as stated by blitzblutz, inspires confidence. I love the trick shot at the end and wanting to give that a try! Wishing you a US Open victory to add to an amazing career.
Phil is getting a bad rap for being such a good golfer… people who judge will be judged… Phil’s golf game is sound… his decisions like all humans can lack… if nobody talked about LIV golf…. It would just go away…. Phil made his fortune playing a game… to see his insight for free here is priceless 😊
I watched you win the PGA Championship and I along with many was heavily mentally or emotionally invested. I did know every time you strayed off course you have a beautiful short game that will never let you down. The hundreds of thousands of practice bunker, pitch or chip shots you have hit, put you in a category of 3. No particular order, you, Seve, and Tiger are money in the bank
don't like hitting out of the sand ever, usually can't do much with it so recently took my 5 wood to it and nailed it about 100 yards out of the trap. Think that's going to be my saving grace from now on :)
Phil literally makes me sick every time I watch his videos because it shows me I've been going in the right direction but gives me that little edge to make me better, and if I struggle with something he has a technique for it which is so simple.
Yeah descending blow underneath that when you hit down it goes up and you have to have no you know just how how many inches behind that ball you're going to hit and nice little falls through with a good good hands good feel and you got that within three feet of the hole so it's a beautiful shot so there it is there's the Bruce Lee of of using a sandwich out of a out of a sand pit
Me watching this video, nodding thinking - that's it! Easy peasy. Me on the course having skulled it from one greenside bunker over to the other. Wtf did he say again, I can't remember!
It's all about keeping those hands moving through the shot that's what context zone where you want to elongate the contact zone in tennis the great Masters like Bichon bork but hit through four tennis balls through a coat hanger hit through the same as golf you have to get through four golf balls straight through like a coat hangers going through those golf balls but the visualize that elongated contact zone that is the essence of golf and tennis and that's the parallel between tennis and golf is the is it the contact zone is The Sweet spot of the game
I see him opening that face but it's a little bit of loft on the ball and so that ball has the lift or airborne from The edge that makes the blade that makes contact at front edge first on that ball which is just like a little flash it's similar to put in tops but on the ball coming off the split step and tennis and return of serve only a flash of your racket the closed edge makes contact with the ball first on the upper top of the ball and this puts that beautiful top spin it's kind of like a cat cutting cheese and when you seek off it's like cotton cheese with a saber knife it's so exact though it's not a blunt blade just hacking through a piece of cheese it is a ninja sword that has a perfect slash exactly where that edge supposed to meet the ball of contact and we're talking contact so is everything the contact zone and golf and tennis are critical it's more important than the take back or the fall through but are all must be one uninterrupted continuous flow
It's a work of art and the amount of hours going in behind that but I think really you have to know exactly what you're doing before you put in the hours of practice otherwise it is lousy practice produces lousy play perfect practice creates perfect
Now he's getting into rhythm and tempo she will smooth take back and then when it comes forward with after the turn real he starts to accelerate the club and he starts to gradually develop racket at speed club head speed here just like the top tennis players to take it back real slow smooth and they make that turn effortlessly and that ball just racket head just flows through that ball and then when it make contact it's like it's interrupted all one movement no hitches and it's just like a rhythmical flow like some type of Tai chi Master perfect balance is transferring I remember I was playing this guy it seem like it was totally so relaxed I couldn't believe I was playing this guy number two seed not tournament the guys seem like he was floating everything was so effortless not even a beat a sweat coming off this guy
This is where the Tai chi man Master changes his weight distribution again you're talking posture and then weight distribution and of course setup so you have to distinguish those three things are going on also the visualization all the mental side of the game and the relaxation of your you know it's called soft hands so that they develop feel in the ball so you can feel what the distance is it's like a pressure on the grip and your hands they are relaxed not a vice grip but just relax so they can feel that golf ball come off that blade that is the Zen
This whole thing is like a zen master it's all the mental side and then there's the physical side and you have to know the conscious mind and then the unconscious mind and so I've been staying the zenikoff the inner game of golf and this is so much what Earl woods do back in 34 because his dad who is a colonel in Vietnam he knew how to be mentally tough so it's so much of it is mental in golf and then there's just a small portion that's actually the technical side but what the the joining of the two together though what Earl did was visualization his first sop shot was total visualization of what of course management was the wind was there water was a traps is a slope does it break left or right right to left is there anything in the way trees is there a swamp do I have to hook this and all these variables you have to have in your mind what's the weather like is the grass wet what kind of grass is it bluegrass you got everything that's going on you have to visualize in that pre-op that first swing that first visualization of what you're going to do in the second swing is actually making contact with the ball and that's letting the unconscious mind subconscious mind hits the ball the subconscious mind hits the ball and the conscious mind visualizes everything it's going to do automatically what it is you have to allow the subconscious to make the shot for what you're unconscious mind has just program recorded so if you've read the Zen of golf which I have or is that of tennis or instead of motorcycle riding you understand yourself oneself to concept and you have to read a thousand books which I have and you have to understand all this stuff because if you don't you can't reach the level of these champions you have to know the secrets behind what they're doing because it's just what you see is just the technique and everybody has a different style style no style means nothing then there's technique and everybody's techniques different and then there's the mental side of call
We do it all the time on the last hole of my home course. The spin generated is absolutely ridiculous. Gear effect applied from contact with the leading ball, multiplying the backspin on the struck ball. Tons of fun.
What he means by “ trick shot” is, by means of placing two balls next to each other without your friends knowing, the impossibility of hitting so high a shot with a lot of backspin like he has shown. The first ball in front, due to angle of collision, makes the second ball go high in the air as well as increasing its backspin at the same time!
Right using that door hinge method the simplification in the mind that you're opening a door and closing the door that's what you want to be thinking the simplification if you start giving a child too many things to think about it's a paralysis by analysis that's why all these instructors are not very good they they slaughter you with so many things that you got to do that you're paralyzed by analysis of paralysis
I got to meet Phil in person at the doral tournament back in the 90's - he is the nicest and most cordial guy you could ever meet. His golf tip lessons are some of the best illustrations of how to hit a golf ball you could ever watch.
His ability to teach is underrated. His talent playing is obvious.
Indeed true ... but shame his character doesn't match his talent?

I feel 100% confident when Phil says anything about golf.
Especially about LIV>PGA 😅
One of the greatest short game videos ever (the full version). This is a good edit.
His enthusiasm is much appreciated.
I love Phil Mickelson’s lessons!
The short game master

Crazy talent
That was the beauty that was doing something about 6 in the hole there and they did it so quickly and even think about it that is really awesome and then it's just an easy putt for birdie
That motion is real smooth soft and smooth you're thinking with a full finish uninterrupted so continuous flow
That trick shot was amazing… what the heck
Thanks Phil. You are a great player and teacher. Congratulations on your incredible career. HoFamer.
Thanks Phil. Your teaching works great.
Awesome, just what I needed. Love that shot at the end.
Looks great in nice bunkers .I would like to see him teach it in soaking wet hard sand bunkers like play in .
Yes, half an inch of sand on top of hard pack
The man is the Master of the Bunker, and he proved it when he won the PGA Championship.

Many thanks for a very good explanation and as stated by blitzblutz, inspires confidence. I love the trick shot at the end and wanting to give that a try! Wishing you a US Open victory to add to an amazing career.

Tiger himself said Phil was the greatest short game player ever.

Insane Tips
I love Phil!
Nice yeah it's that flow
I imagine Phil in his backyard sand trap hitting balls for 8 hours straight until he perfected it
Odd that this video shows up in my feed just a day after he chunked two and bladed another while in the bunker at the Adelaide tournament.
Masters talk about essence, no bull****.
Phil literally makes me sick every time I watch his videos because it shows me I've been going in the right direction but gives me that little edge to make me better, and if I struggle with something he has a technique for it which is so simple.
&yetettxxki hn
I did not like it when he moved to LIV but you still have to love the guy especially if you watched him for years and years.
Imagine never playing golf and you watch this video and then go play for the first time. LOL
This guys pretty good
All very good be what’s he like with a putter!
I hear other pros say when its buried, to keep the face squared and not as opened. Can anyone clarify??
I watched this ealier this morning and it worked a couple hours later, VERY KOOL
try his chipping tips, same result
Master Sifu Phil !!

The most important tip. Make sure you’re born Phil. .

Is Phil’s bunker swing in line with his body or the target?
What target do I focus my eyes on?
Lefty Masterclass.
Phil is bad ass

52years Old 2nd in The Masters 2023Try that Tiger
But what if your local course is poor as shit and the bunkers are 3mm of builders sand on top of hard mud and rocks?
Connnnncepts of Bunker play.
My issue is all the courses I play have rock hard bunkers so these tips go out the window.
So nice to get tips without all the talk. Do this do that go get it . Thanks
He'll do well
This whole thing is like a zen master it's all the mental side and then there's the physical side and you have to know the conscious mind and then the unconscious mind and so I've been staying the zenikoff the inner game of golf and this is so much what Earl woods do back in 34 because his dad who is a colonel in Vietnam he knew how to be mentally tough so it's so much of it is mental in golf and then there's just a small portion that's actually the technical side but what the the joining of the two together though what Earl did was visualization his first sop shot was total visualization of what of course management was the wind was there water was a traps is a slope does it break left or right right to left is there anything in the way trees is there a swamp do I have to hook this and all these variables you have to have in your mind what's the weather like is the grass wet what kind of grass is it bluegrass you got everything that's going on you have to visualize in that pre-op that first swing that first visualization of what you're going to do in the second swing is actually making contact with the ball and that's letting the unconscious mind subconscious mind hits the ball the subconscious mind hits the ball and the conscious mind visualizes everything it's going to do automatically what it is you have to allow the subconscious to make the shot for what you're unconscious mind has just program recorded so if you've read the Zen of golf which I have or is that of tennis or instead of motorcycle riding you understand yourself oneself to concept and you have to read a thousand books which I have and you have to understand all this stuff because if you don't you can't reach the level of these champions you have to know the secrets behind what they're doing because it's just what you see is just the technique and everybody has a different style style no style means nothing then there's technique and everybody's techniques different and then there's the mental side of call
What club is he using for the normal bunker shots
What 'normal' bunker shot?
60
I could make a chipping video but it would be everything he's already said.
I couldn't.
did he double hit one @2:24?
His wife is a great instructor also
Thta last shot. Yeah. Right.
We do it all the time on the last hole of my home course. The spin generated is absolutely ridiculous. Gear effect applied from contact with the leading ball, multiplying the backspin on the struck ball. Tons of fun.
lol Phil didn’t upload this video he is not seeing anyone commenting. He doesn’t give a shit, he got paid.
Now try this with wet compacted sand and say bye bye golf ball.
I have to ask. Who's idea was it to put bunkers on a golf course? They just had to make golf harder than it already is. 😆
I still don't understand the "trick" shot.
What did you do to Rory. He doesn’t like you. Nice tips though.
STUD
So i open the face
Luke Donald is better from bunkers 😎
I always skull f?$k it
