I’m 16. Ashamed at my generation for not giving the supermarionation shows a chance. Stingray and joe 90 aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. I love them all but for me stingray uses the submarine and control tower sets way too much (cost saving measure) and joe 90 is… well just joe 90.
Joe 90 is a great and amazing concept but the show itself is by far the weakest of the big 4. Not as vibrant as captain scarlet. The duller colours of joe 90 I think is what makes it feel like a gruel to binge watch. This week watched the first 20 episodes so far and feel like absolute crap 😂
Sam and Shane are in my top 20 supermarionation characters though. Sam is probably in top 10.
Captain scarlet and thunderbirds however nobody can say they don’t like. They are both so good and iconic that they rely on each other’s success and fame to stay alive.
In “Perils of Penelope” when thunderbird 2 drops the pod after waiting ages to see if Penelope was on the monotrain I think that scene symbolises the excitement of thunderbirds perfectly. Boring-ish scenes of just thunderbird 2 waiting there but once that pod drops you know the action begins NOW
In “the launching” when scarlet realises the atomic liner is the target and not the US president I believe that scene perfectly symbolises the uncertain nature of captain scarlet.
For anyone wondering what my favourite moments from each of the big 4 shows are here they are… my favourite stingray moment is when titan and X20 are watching duke dexter’s performance via TV at the end of Titan goes pop.
My favourite moment from thunderbirds is most likely the Hudson building explosion as Thomas Prescott is my favourite supermarionation character of all time just for handling his situation like a champ 👍
My favourite captain scarlet moment is most likely from “Big Ben strikes again” when scarlet is driving the transporter vehicle and it explodes underground trapping scarlet in the elevator. Wish they did an entire episode afterwards of the rescue to get scarlet out of the elevator
My favourite Joe 90 moment was probably the surgery from “operation Mcclaine” funny scene and great rescue (I guess if you wanna call it a rescue)
Sorry for not mentioning fireball XL5 once but all I like about it is the theme. That’s why I’m hear at 2:38AM on a Saturday morning 😂

What is amazing about this is that it was the theme for an action/adventure show targeted at young kids. But it is a sweet love theme.
Gerry Anderson was quite the visionary and, frankly, had some stones to make this theme to a very cool series.

My mom and dad bought me the spaceship and the marionette puppets of Steve Zodiac and Venus. I played with those for ages, looked after them as those were the real stars. Can you remember another program from that era called Captain Zeppos? A Dutch film series. A chap who lived in a windmill who had adventures with a famous 5 type of kids. When “The Space Channel” came to Canada during the cable expansion in the mid nineties there was a show that followed this one I would watch, so I’d always get there a bit early and I’d hear this song during the closing credits while waiting for my show to start. If I remember correctly, Supercar made it to New York City TV first, followed by Fireball XL-5, Stingray, Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons, Thunderbirds, and UFO. (Also a big fan of "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun")
Those early Anderson marionette shows went hand-in-glove with Beatlemania/The British Invasion, James Bond, and TV programs like The Avengers, Secret Agent/Danger Man, The Saint, and The Prisoner. (For me, Patrick McGoohan will always rank with the great Sean Connery)

Wow, you sound just like me. I loved the ITC shows like The Saint. The Prisoner,
Danger man (Secret Agent man in the USA) and The Champions.
The show UFO I remember is the one with Ed Bishop as Commander Straker.
Then there was Roy Thinnes in the show, "The Invaders".
Most of my favourite shows seemed to come between 1955 and 1975.
And how about the show "Man in a Suitcase' with Richard Bradford.
So much great tele from the UK.

Oh my GOD!! Until just now, listening to the theme song on this, I only knew that any sort of connection with "Fireball XL5" was on George Norrey's
"Coast To Coast" or program as a rotation in "bumper" music. I watched that show RELIGIOUSLY every Saturday morning on KHQ-TV, Channel 6, out of Spokane, Washington @ 9:30 a.m...This was over 50 years ago; for a kid, it was pretty good at the time. Hokey by today's standards, but, what the HELL? And, as a "side-bar" to you younger folk, please show some appreciation for what came before.

KHQ-tv, KXLY and KREM ? Watched it every saturday as well. Up here in Canada just across the line. We had a huge antenna. Got all the Spokane channels unless the wind really picked up , then big brother would have to climb up on the roof and shout down the chimney, " Is it good?" no a little to the left or right. Tough times back then!;)

Does anyone remember on of the episodes where they were all playing instruments in the spaceship and singing their theme song? The robot was playing the drums. I think that's one of the reasons I started playing the drums (that and the Tin Woodsman in Wizard of Oz playing rhythms on his legs and tooting his funnel hat as the end of his song....ah......)

This and "Lady Penelope" by the Shadows from the Thunderbird's are GO are just 60's nostalgia. Loved Fireball XL5 when i was growing up, bear in mind i grew up in the late 90's i still preferred this and the other Jerry Anderson shows over most of the cartoons of the day

This is suddenly a new song to me. They never played the third verse on the show.
I watched them all back in the day. This used to be my favorite show.
I wish I was a space man, the fastest guy alive.
I’d fly you around the universe in Fireball XL-5.
Way out in space together, conquerors of the sky,
My heart would be a fireball, a fireball,
Every time I gazed into your starry eyes.
We’d take the path to Jupiter and maybe very soon,
We’d cruise along the Milky Way and land upon the moon.
To a wonderland of stardust, we’d zoom our way to Mars.
My heart would be a fireball, a fireball,
‘Cause you would be my Venus of the stars.
But though I’m not a spaceman, famous and renowned,
I’m just a guy that’s down to Earth, with both feet on the ground.
It’s all imagination; I’ll never reach the skies.
My heart is still a fireball, a fireball,
Every time I gaze into your starry eyes.
Fireball, fireball, every time I gaze into your starry eyes.

You could ask D. Trump about that, apparently he's a bit of a space cadet. But, he's no Steve Zodiac. Who could be?
I was 11 when this show came out, I vaguely remember the first episode.

    I wonder how many people heard the opening intro but either never listened to the lyrics or the song was edited short for time;
It just hit me how sad, sincere and heartfelt the lyrics are.
