Gerry Anderson a man before his time, with fantastic imagination and producing shows without any of the technology available today. Major part of my childhood! Torchy the Battery boy, Tex and the Four Feather Falls, Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds etc...genius!
And don't forget his live-action film "Doppelganger" (known as "Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun" in North America), and his live-action TV series "UFO", "Space: 1999" and "Space Precinct".
1965 Woodlawn Park Zoo in Seattle. Skateboarding through the zoo past gorillas Bobo and Fefe past the outdoor monkey cages who threw their poop at mothers and children….I remember singing this song then. Life was good at 10 years old.
That was awesome! I'm an old Fireball xl5 fan, and I love seeing it updated this way. BTW, the guy with the cigarette inside the helmet was hilarious. I kept waiting for him to pass out.
so you did this in 2011ish? i wonder how i'm just now finding it - excellent doesn't seem to be enough to say - it looks like you and the cast had fun - such a shame RUclips doesn't have awards like THE RUclips VIDEO AWARDS or some such thing - i'm sure you would have been the years favorite - thanks for making & posting this! :)
I've watched this video many times, I'm 63 now but Fireball XL5 was my favourite programme when I was a kid , I fell in love with Venus when I was a little boy, she was one very attractive wooden puppet, well done Dominic Halpin & the Honey bees a fabulous rendition of one of my favourite songs and TV programmes from my childhood, on our 35th wedding anniversary I would love to be entertained by yourselves ( let me know of your prices ! ) Many Thanks, John Eaton, Weaverham, Cheshire
Only just seen this today...superb! Well done Sir. I recorded a version of this in Feb. this year - a homage to Joe Meek - & as soon as I saw you, the resemblance was uncanny! (anybody else notice this?). Really enjoyed seeing this
Haven't thought about this in a very long time, but last night I was remembering my time in England. My dad was in the US Air Force, was stationed to Lakenheath AFB in Oct. 1963. We lived in a flat in Newmarket, about 14 miles from the base. I was 12 at the time. We'd rented a TV and got to watch Fireball XL5 , the Woodentops and Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men. Those were so much fun. And here I found this site. :-)
What a fantastic dedication to the show you have there. The bar has been set so high, only the motion picture could top it, thanks Dom, and the guys, I'll keep an eye out for your gigs now for sure. Also a big hats off to Gerry Anderson, who dreamt up all the concepts, like separation, rocket sleds, and all his other works, etc. His work was so ahead of his time, Spielberg wouldn't know what hit him if another Gerry came around again at 20 years old.
This is absolutely inspired, though it dates me that it's part of my DNA. Completely brilliant - especially the smoking. Even puppets smoked in the early 1960s.
Fantastic job ! really enjoyed ! I grew up in the UK in the sixties and have always been a fan of Jerry Anderson! at 57 I still am!Really good to hear and see your take on this! Love it!
Is that Akai EWI 4000 I see there?....would love to have the sax music for this!...Great work, great video and great dancing First saw FXL5 Boxing Day 1962 age 6 ....still living the dream I'm still not a spaceman and I'll never reach the stars...its all imagination really
Absolutely amazing video! I'd had this theme in my head for over 50 years and a few weeks ago found the original on youtube, then this week I found this. Thank you for a wonderful version, better than the original!!! You brought it back to life.
Great fun and well done. What came first - wanting to do a Fireball XL5 tribute video or wanting to play the song ? PS. Like the bit with the bloke smoking inside his space helmet - reminds me of what it was like in pubs before the smoking ban.
Wow! Fantastic FIREBALL XL5 was the first Space TV show I saw as a child As it was on ITV I had to go across the road to see it as our Telly could only receive BBC!
Still doesn't answer the question. Who picks up the rocket sled after launch? Or is there a big pile of them on the other side if the launc 5:34 h ramp?
According to the manual, once an XL craft has departed the launch rail, the launch sled motors cut out and it drops down onto a recovery rail. the recovery rail banks sharply downward to the left, which swiftly take the sled underground and back on a parallel course with the launch rail. Here,, it joins a line of spent launch sleds that are checked over, refueled and certified for use again. When a launch sled is required, a platform raises the next available sled to the surface, where it is lifted onto the launch rail by the gantry cranes. It remains in position ready to receive the next XL craft and begin the lunch cycle again.
Gerry Anderson would be plased. i just started watching the episodes on youtube, and Dominic: you and your friends have done the series proud. whan my kids are old enough, i will introduce them to Fireball XL5, Supercar, Stingray, and Especially Thunderbirds. would like to see your band do a Thunderbirds video. maybe one of your dads could play Jeff Tracy?
Dominic, in enjoyed your video a lot ! I think, in the last 3-4 years, I did watch it 10 times ! great work !! you did put a lot of time in there, I am sure ! thanks !n
Fantastique et quelle ambiance j'arrête plus de l'écouter, merci pour ce merveilleux moment de nostalgie de mes années d'innocence! Fabuleusement reprit et tu a un super style, j'aimerais tant qu'on aie plus de cette époque. Not sure if you understand French but this was fabulous.
@SovereignStatesman in the original show Jr. goes underwater a few times, e.g. "XL5 to H2O", so I think they were giving that a tribute. But yeah, Jr. over the clouds (2:22) is beautiful. Some great work.
@SovereignStatesman well, near the beginning there's a shot of the full ship in a blue sky (1:48), then then forward end against an earth backdrop (1:56) , and also later there is Jr. flying over then into water (4:55). Gorgeous and fun.
@SovereignStatesman well yeah, there are LOTS of tech inconsistencies btwn this music vid and the original show. But for me it doesn't take away from the aesthetic enjoyment.

Well Done this is really Cool ! Amazing Theme i remember watching some episodes as a Kid as well along with Stingray and Thunderbirds these were my favourite till Space 1999 came on TV and took their place
Loved the show as an eight year old when it was broadcast in the USA. I even made my own model out of cardboard tubes!
Thank you for the ❤️ Dominic. So honored. I hope you are doing well these days.

@@LEWOOF what a fun memory
the scenes of XL5 in the blue sky and over the earth are breathtaking
I never missed Fireball XL5 Saturday mornings! I guess I am showing my age but we had great shows like this to grow on!
I loved this song as a kid. My heart is still a fireball! 👍
Good B side as well
Very nicely done. Great lead vocals.
That was awesome! I'm an old Fireball xl5 fan, and I love seeing it updated this way. BTW, the guy with the cigarette inside the helmet was hilarious. I kept waiting for him to pass out.
In 1962/1963, I was there, just 10 yrs old. Can't love this performance any more than humanly possible! Thank you!
This is no Low Budget video. The sets, the models, the CGI, stage wardrobe of the band. And tastefully done to upgrade the original. Excellent work!
Agreed! Surprisingly well done in all areas of production.
Thanks for bringing Fireball XL5 back to life!

Very well done! Takes one back to a simpler, classier time, before humanity took the plunge. Delightful, fun video, and a great little song.
Wow!! That was a lot of fun!!!! Brings back great memories when I was a kid!!! Thank's Dominic!!!
I used to watch Fireball XL5 as a kid, what a feeling of nostalgia watching this. Well done! the whole thing is just great.

Great job! I really enjoyed watching that! Fireball XL5 was my favorite TV show as a kid in the 60s.
XL5 and Astroboy were my 2 favorites. can't believe you left off last verse of song! Only kids show song to have charted in the 60's
This is brilliant - well done everyone - Gerry Anderson would be proud! X
What can I say? Fantastic video! It took me back a long long way. Made an old man happy!!!

It's been a decade (or 6) since this show captured my imagination. This song was always a favorite and you did it proud.
Brilliant, used to love Fireball.
This is absolutely inspired, though it dates me that it's part of my DNA. Completely brilliant - especially the smoking. Even puppets smoked in the early 1960s.

Really superb work and the cover is nice. I like the little touches that pay homage to the Gerry Anderson program, like the (Steve) Zodiac Bar.
Forking legendary!!

Absolutely brilliant. XL5 is one of my earliet, happy, safe memories. And this is GREAT - but where is Venus? Hmmmmm

I had this on a TV21 EP disc in the early '70's along with the Dr Who theme and the Captain Scarlet theme.
LOL Dom did you go to NIDA...hey you should think about tropfest...that ventriliquist dummy one would be good. Miss you x

Terrific job. Great update to a classic 60s programme.
