@@jenspedersen9138 agreed that version is more technically proficient and better sound equipment/venue (not at a dining room table), but Chris Thile carries that band followed by Sara and a distant Sean. The Petersens are very talented each in their own way, and their humility and the love/camaraderie they have for each other makes this an overall better performance in my book.

When I was little, I had a children's book based on this song. I was learning to read, and I thought it was odd that the story would say things like town-o, town-o. My mom then explained to me that it was a song, and she sang it for me. She would sing it for me other times too, whenever I'd bring it up. My mom passed away last year, and shortly afterwards I stumbled across this video - the only time I've ever heard this song performed besides my mom. Thank you, Ger, and the Petersens for this beautiful performance! It connects to me on a very personal level!
My mom played the guitar and would sing this as long as I could remember for me. I begged her to sing it again. She passed in 2016 and finding this just takes me back.

It's all about arrangment. Knowing when to play/sing, when to leave space, and the ending sings, with the majority of the instruments riffing on the melody. Brilliantly done. This music teacher is using this in my class!

You know , I would have to say it is impossible to say who out did themselves in this one . Its seems to me they all have fun when Ger comes and joins them these people are Amazing as Artists . Excellent version of this American folk song. We used to sing this around the campfire when I was a young boy (mid 70's in CA). Went to see nickel creek at a bluegrass festival in 2000, and they performed this tune. Memories came flowing back as they slayed this song. Very small correction, it is Old Mrs. flipper flopper, instead of old gray woman. Excellent musicianship on this video!!
I listen to all types of music, but every time I come across a bluegrass group that brings it to the top, my foot starts tapp'in, I get a great big smile, and it makes me gently cry with joy. Does anybody else get this? Tell me I'm not crazy.
I produce a weekly syndicated bluegrass radio show, and as a result i listen to a LOT of bluegrass every week. This group is as tight and professional as any I have ever played on my show in 25 years. They all know their stuff and every note is precise and exactly where it should be. It's a delight to listen to the Petersons. They could sing the phone book and it would still make me smile.

Wow, simply WOW! I can't describe how much that performance meant to me. I used to hear that song in Nashville with my college roommate who has since passed from pancreatic cancer and it brought back great memories. Only The Petersens and Ger O'Donnell could do it justice. Kudos to all.
I find it rather amazing that even though they are always playing acoustic (unplugged with mics), you can still hear all the instrumenst on their perfect volume for each moment. Perfect!

I'm a classical musician and jeez do I think you sound pretentious. Some people just don't like this kind of music (not talking about myself I like it) just like some people don't like classical, just preference. But I don't get offended when people don't like the music I play or listen to as I happily disregard pop music and rap music, everyone has a right to their opinion and the idea that there isn't anyone who would dislike this is simply preposterous and that's coming from a guy who's surrounded by people that think the music they listen is superior to all others, really hate classical fans.

When I was little, I had a children's book based on this song. I was learning to read, and I thought it was odd that the story would say things like town-o, town-o. My mom then explained to me that it was a song, and she sang it for me. She would sing it for me other times too, whenever I'd bring it up. My mom passed away last year, and shortly afterwards I stumbled across this video - the only time I've ever heard this song performed besides my mom. Thank you, Ger, and the Petersens for this beautiful performance! It connects to me on a very personal level!
My mom played the guitar and would sing this as long as I could remember for me. I begged her to sing it again. She passed in 2016 and finding this just takes me back.
There is a spirit within this family that shines so bright.

It's all about arrangment. Knowing when to play/sing, when to leave space, and the ending sings, with the majority of the instruments riffing on the melody. Brilliantly done. This music teacher is using this in my class!

these people are Amazing as Artists . I really like how Miss Ellen tried not to laugh when Ger sang Quack Quack Quack lol , her smile is enchanting
It seems to me Ellen kinda smiled/grinned because she realised Ger had it wrong, it's only supposed to be two "quacks" in there. But nevertheless she has a great, warm smile and shows cincere love to her family and to their music.

Excellent version of this American folk song. We used to sing this around the campfire when I was a young boy (mid 70's in CA). Went to see nickel creek at a bluegrass festival in 2000, and they performed this tune. Memories came flowing back as they slayed this song. Very small correction, it is Old Mrs. flipper flopper, instead of old gray woman. Excellent musicianship on this video!!
I listen to all types of music, but every time I come across a bluegrass group that brings it to the top, my foot starts tapp'in, I get a great big smile, and it makes me gently cry with joy. Does anybody else get this? Tell me I'm not crazy.

I produce a weekly syndicated bluegrass radio show, and as a result i listen to a LOT of bluegrass every week. This group is as tight and professional as any I have ever played on my show in 25 years. They all know their stuff and every note is precise and exactly where it should be. It's a delight to listen to the Petersons. They could sing the phone book and it would still make me smile.

Wow, simply WOW! I can't describe how much that performance meant to me. I used to hear that song in Nashville with my college roommate who has since passed from pancreatic cancer and it brought back great memories. Only The Petersens and Ger O'Donnell could do it justice. Kudos to all.
I find it rather amazing that even though they are always playing acoustic (unplugged with mics), you can still hear all the instrumenst on their perfect volume for each moment. Perfect!

I'm a classical musician and jeez do I think you sound pretentious. Some people just don't like this kind of music (not talking about myself I like it) just like some people don't like classical, just preference. But I don't get offended when people don't like the music I play or listen to as I happily disregard pop music and rap music, everyone has a right to their opinion and the idea that there isn't anyone who would dislike this is simply preposterous and that's coming from a guy who's surrounded by people that think the music they listen is superior to all others, really hate classical fans.
