I liked Sir Paul's live album ever since I heard his live performance on Wings Over America Album back in the late 80s and Tripping the Live Fantastic in the early 90s. I recently bought Paul is Live and the Amoeba Gig EP. They were both excellent live albums as well. I had to search RUclips for a ranking of Sir Paul's live albums since I plan to complete his live album. Thank you for this ranking and more success to your channel.

I loved it when you did the Paul McCartney live albums I think people should do more videos on it because there’s some great stuff on all the live albums based on the ones that I’ve listened to and heard and have which are only two. I think the same thing goes with the Paul McCartney compilations and also the miscellaneous stuff.

I listened to “Paul is live” for the first time tonight. I thought it was excellent….loved it! I don’t have “tripping the live fantastic”, so cannot compare…. But really enjoyed this. 6 months ago “Off the Ground” wasn’t an album I’d played much or liked, but I’ve played it a lot recently and now really love it. Really great songs… how did I ever let this one pass me by?

Hi Beatley, thanks very much for the shout out, I’m really enjoying your very entertaining channel.
I was a bit sad to hear your comments on Off the Ground, I really love that album, it’s got a big emotional connection for me and I love almost every track on it. I actually really like both Peace in the Neighbourhood and I Owe it All to You, but that could be influenced by what was happening in my life at the time it came out. Music is so powerful!
Thanks for another very informative video.

Hi MBT no problem re the shout out, thanks very much for your contributions to this channel. Don't be sad about off the Ground, its just my opinion - one mans meat is another mans cottage cheese and all that. Im not saying its a bad album just in context with the others its not as great - is that better? But more so , the tracks he decided. to play from that album didn't lend themselves that well to the live format. get out of my Way was a serious omission from the live set in my opinion. I agree that music is very powerful - it means everything. Thanks for this great comment.

    @peterlemuria2093 2 года назад

Hi BT. I've only just got around to starting to watch this series, so thanks for the name check! I hope anyone that reads my ramblings gets something out of it. I've seen Paul live eleven times (if you include his sixties band, although that was only once), but as a non-completist I tend to only buy the live albums or dvd's of tours that I saw. That said, I have got the MTV cd, and I'm going to give it another listen soon, so may leave a "critical" comment on pt2. I'll also listen to Paul is Live since that's the tour when I won tickets from the Evening Standard. I just opened the CD and found the tickets, the letter from the Standard and my written set list! I think you're right about there being no more live albums (I suspect we'll see why when we watch the Glastonbury footage); I've go a pirate DVD from the O2 in Dec 2018, and I can hear dodgy notes that I didn't notice when I was there, but what the hell, they're his songs, why shouldn't he keep singing them? No-one seems to complain about The Rolling Stones (much as I love their records - can any other band match the run of Beggars Banquet, Let it Bleed, Get Yer Ya Ya's Out, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main Street) despite the fact that they've been relentlessly dreadful live for years!

    • @beatleytonesbeatleschannel
      @beatleytonesbeatleschannel  2 года назад

Hi Peter, I bet that was a nice surprise and a chance to reminisce when that ticket and hand-written set list popped out. I must admit, Im a little bit concerned about Glastonbury as its going to be broadcast live on TV, Twitter is going to go into meltdown and he won't be playing to 'his audience' and they will be less forgiving. Im probably going to do a video about this - pre and post Glastonbury. But like you say you didn't notice the dodgy moments when you were at the gig and that is because you were in the moment and when you're there it doesn't really matter. Yes its a great run of Stones albums - I would extend that run right up until Some Girls - I much prefer the 70s Stones to the 60s Stones from an album point of view, even the ones that are less acclaimed like Goats Head Soup and It's Only Rock n Roll . never seen 'em live though. Thanks for this great comment.

Hi, Tone. I had a good laugh when I saw you had done this video - I was listening to Tripping the Live Fantastic Monday or Tuesday and thinking a ranking of Paul's live albums might be a good idea to do in a week or two, but you beat me to it! It's surprising that no one has done it yet, it seems like a great topic. Although something has to be ranked at the bottom, I do like both of these albums. Unplugged is a nice change of pace. I really appreciated that Paul Is Live has such a different track selection than Tripping. Paul's voice is a little rougher at times which is interesting to me. Good stuff, looking forward to part 2!

Oh no Matt ! Well you should still do your planned video, as I for one will be interested to see how our rankings compare. I must admit, I didn't notice that Paul's voice was rougher on Paul is live compared to Tripping but I will listen closer now. I do think both these albums have some value but like you say, something has to come bottom of the pile . Thanks for this comment and I will look forward to your video and certainly be watching. Thanks very much Sharon, I really appreciate your comments about this video and the channel in general, so no problem re shout out. That's a real shame that you we're able to get tickets for the show next week. That does sound very hot to be hanging around the stage entrance for a few hours (you never know when he's going to turn up and when I did that in Verona (also very hot) some old hands who had done that before said he is always late! But its a fun thing to do if you do get the chance as its always great talking to other fans while you're waiting. To be honest I was surprised that unplugged wasn't part of the live album reissue in 2019 as I would really like to get it on vinyl but maybe that will happen in the future. I did have a look on eBay just know and there a few for sale there and the price really varies (there is one for as little as £6 obvs posting to the US would boost that up a little - but there are some on there for over £100 !!) not sure why. Thanks for letting me know about the detail thing and for a great comment as usual

    Hi Tone
Thanks for the shout out - happy to be a supporter of your content.
I'm not a big fan of live albums (in general) and seldom listen to Macca's - the main exception being Unplugged which I do put on from time to time and really enjoy - I particularly like the version of We Can Work It Out.
No spoilers, but there is one live album I've only listened to only once (and I'm not even certain I made it all the way through) and that would definitely go to the bottom of my list - it's unlistenable!

Great Video, on the unplugged songs that were rehearsed and did not make the final cut, there are several that were played on "Oobo Joobu".
Most are Parady's, incomplete, or have voice overs, however there is a complete version of "Mother Nature's Son". It also had a legitimate release on a promo CD "Oobu Joobu Ecology" that was available at Best Buy her in the USA.

On the other hand some of the other songs on "Paul is live" are missing, e.g. "Let me Roll it", "Peace in the Neighbourhood" or "Robbie's Bit". For the unplugged album it is a shame, that Things we Said today is not included. What a great version. Paul is live is ok. I've seen Paul in 93 in Frankfurt. One of my best concerts ever. Great show. And to have a live album from the same tour, is always great and a fantastic memory. Biker like an Icon, especially in the live version, is iconic in my opinion. Imagine, wings 1972 1st live show at Nothingham 1972 in perfect stereo sound??? These are some of the things i dream about when i have nothing to do. @@beatleytonesbeatleschannel Sadly no, most of those early gigs were not recorded professionally... only a select few and even they are sketchy sound wise. Luckily we now have the Big Barn Box Set with a scouse the mouse live shows 1972-3 even if they are incomplete. Makes me think paul has a few more shows in the basement than we know of. I do know and did have at least a half dozen 1972 and 3 live shows recorded from the audience which are dreadful BUT, have great live raw feel and of course, i love early Wings so thats a bonus for me. emailed his people and put the bug in thier ear about possibly doing that whole A.I. Malware thing to make all unrealesed concerts and studio listenable once and for all. As fans, you ;and i would buy them up asap i know that so the market IS there i think. Anyway that whole A.I. thing is similar to what the police ferensic unit uses to block out unwanted noise on recordings i beleive BUT it takes it to a higher level. Literally grabs a frequency of say Pauls voice and ONLY brings that out to the forfront and then one is able to mix it apropiatly. Hence, the incredible vocals on Revolvers FOR NO ONE and the orchestration section which sounds like we are literally litting in the Albert hall hearing it. There is an interview with peter jackson talking about redoing the star club 1962 using A.I and wants to get pauls permission. Think it was from last summer or so on youtube. So, people are seriously cnsidering it. I have a bootllet of the BBC sessions but again the sound is bad.... but, who knows what we could get IF that program was applied to it. We're in concurrment on these two, Tone. By keeping the Unplugged recording completely unplugged, it does leave the instruments sounding a bit lifeless. I'm not as averse to covers as you are, but knowing what we could have heard, as opposed to what we got, I can't help but be a little disappointed at what could have been...... Paul Is Live was a miss for all the reasons you stated. Once you get past the excitement of the cover and actually have to listen to the album, it's becomes a missed opportunity on many levels, especially since that opportunity wasn't particularly necessary in the first place. I think the reason Live And Let Die was included was because it was the first time the "earth shattering Kaboom's" were recorded properly.
Looking forward to Part 2. I like all the bits and bobs of info. In my opinion, it is important to examine these albums from as many angles as possible to make a proper ranking, mainly because there is a bit of overlap on all these releases.
To satisfy my curiosity, how would you rank these 7 Macca drummers: Denny Seiwell, Geoff Britton, Joe English, Steve Holley, Chris Whitten, Blair Cunningham and Abe Laborial Jr.

Hi Pete, Thanks for this really great comment, and for helping out with 'bits and bobs' issue. I do these rankings how I like to see others doing them, with all the info which shows they have considered the albums properly , but I just wanted to check whether the majority of subs wanted them like this, so that is really useful as others have said the same. Not much point doing a ranking if you don't explain the reasons why, in my opinion. Yes it's 'what it could have been' issue that is a real shame for unplugged but its still an album I enjoy but don't return to that often. One thing about Paul is Live is that by late1993 when this came out Paul had already started working on the Anthology project, so Im guessing this album came out to plug a gap as it was going to be a while before there was a new Paul McCartney record in the shops. I guess it serves as a document of the Off the Ground period but its a bit of a mess - I think you're probably right about the inclusion of Live & Let Die - glad you pointed that out. As I said the shows I saw on this tour were great, but the record doesn't reflect how good they were.
Loving it that you've set me some homework. Because I have a few other comments to respond to (and work of course) , let me have a think about it and come back to you on this either later today or tomorrow. Cheers Pete

Hi Pete, out of all the drummers Paul has had, Ive only seen Abe, Blair, Chris Whittens and Steve Holley play in the flesh so the others I can only judge on recorded evidence- so here goes. 7. Geoff Britton (not much to go on), 6. Blair Cunningham, 5, Steve Holley, 4, Joe English, 3 Denny Seiwell, 2 Chris Whitten 1. Abe

@@beatleytonesbeatleschannel OK, I give you an A+ on this assignment! Seriously, thanks for the ranking. I'm always curious to know what others think about these kind of topics.
I'll give you my humble opinion, although it wasn't nearly as easy as I thought it would be.
      7. Blair Cunningham - This was the only easy choice. Not a fan, especially when he was playing Beatles songs.
      6. Steve Holley
      5. Denny Seiwell - I always thought his drumming was a little haphazard, and his kit was tuned a little slack for my tastes
      4. Geoff Britton - Not much to go on, but what is there (One Hand Clapping for live, the Nashville session which yielded Junior's Farm (an all-time Macca fave) and the 3 tracks on Venus & Mars, including one of Letting Go (another all-time Macca fave) really connects with me. His drumming wasn't very clever, but it was so poweful)
The top 3 was nearly impossible to sort out because the are all so good in completely different ways. Short of declaring a 3 way tie, I would say (today):
      3. Joe
      2. Chris
      1. Abe

@@BeatlePete910 Im quite proud of my A+ - is there a badge to go with it. Must admit, I found it hard to decide between Joe and Denny. Ive been listening to Wings Over Europe and Denny was a much better drummer than I originally thought so that swayed my decision. Nice to see your ranking though - I also find it interesting to hear other fans opinions - that's probably why I started this channel in the first place. Junior's Farm is also a big favourite for me too. Cheers Pete for another great comment.

Didn’t he rehearsed The Fool for the Unplugged album

Quite possibly. Im not sure about that but it certainly would have been a great contender for this sort of acoustic type gig that he did for unplugged.

I think it's more fun to listen to Paul's complete "MTV Unplugged" performance. I think "Paul Is Live" is the weakest one. The songs are often performed too close to the originals. You may as well just hear those. And despite Paul's warning, those soundcheck tracks are pretty weak.

Hi James and welcome to the channel. Sure, this is what I enjoy about the reaction to these ranking videos - the fact that everybody here's things differently and that's what makes it interesting. For me Unplugged is a little disappointing because of the number of covers and the songs that were rehearsed and ignored could have made it better for me. I agree that on Paul is live the arrangements don't vary too much from the original record although I would say With the Beatles songs that was exactly what Paul was aiming for. But lots of bands do do something different with the songs when they play live and that makes live versions interesting I agree. Thanks for a great comment
