Hi I'm Wendy a resin artist and crafter.
In this video I am reviewing the xTool F1Portable Laser Machine.
From an old woman's point of view, I explain how I got on with and used this machine.

Hello Wendy, A tip that you can use on items that don't engrave dark enough, you can engrave first, dust with powder coat paint and then cure the paint with the laser. Just make sure you dont move the product in between

Wow! This machine is fantastic! As an artist who dabbles in Metalsmithing, Leather, Resin, this interests me to no end. What possibilities .. now if I were at the beginning of my career it would be a game changer. Especially for etching Copper or Silver. Thx for sharing💜💜

I have looked at the F1 but as I have the LaserPecker 2 I can't justify the expense.
I take my LP2 to every market and it really does bring people to my tables.
I bought the Atomstack D2 Air Purifier for mine and it also works really well with no smell, fumes or smoke.

I figured it would engrave resin since it does acrylic. They’re very similar. Love this machine I need to get my craft room up so I can get it! 😊

Thanks heaps for this Wendy, I’ve shared it with my daughter and my husband. Henri had an X Tool but it’s a rather big one, he loves engraving with slate on it and has produced some lovely things, but he was looking for a small one, this might be it as he’s impressed with his X Tool. As a bonus when he brought it we were in a small town in Queensland, he ordered it one day and got it the next. We laughed saying they must have a shed here somewhere as we NEVER with anything get next day delivery. Thanks mate and have a great day. 💕

Time to build a folding cabinet for it so you can close it while it’s doing it’s thing and you’ll be able to still utilize the air purifier. Pretty awesome

Huh... You are braver than me. 😅 Not sure if I could have managed to make myself engrave the silicone molds, lol. 😆 Turned out great in the end but I think when using thin molds like that you should get some translucent mold making silicone and mix a little bit up to add to the back of those molds before engraving. It would let you engrave deeper without worrying and reinforce the mold a bit since engraving it thinned it out so much. 😉
As for the fumes when using the extension tray... Maybe you can find large sheets of acrylic that can protect you from the light. If you can, then you can basically build a box that can accommodate the furthest reaches of the tray and drop it around the whole machine. 🤔 You just need to add cutouts for the tubes and wires. 🤷🏻♀️ It won't be airtight but it should trap most of the smell and, most importantly, protect others from the light too which would be my actual main concern if using this mode at something like a craft fair anyway. 😅

@@Toonpish I'm actually kinda curious if you could make something with regular hardware store clear silicone (and maybe a bit of baby powder or cornstarch). Like, if you could create a thick flat sheet of it in between two sheets of wax paper and let it set then build thick walls around it to create a freeform mold, could you then engrave deeply into the bottom of it and use it as a regular mold? I mean, I know there are methods of making a mold with household silicone but could you engrave on it? 🤔 Might be best to test something like that outside though, lol. 😅

XCS can generate a test grid. It is under Array. Also, XCS does not have settings for many things you can work with. Even across machines with the same lasers, materials will show up for one but not the other. So don't let the absence make you think something isn't supported. It just doesn't have settings in there.

I absolutely love my M1, and I’m waiting patiently for my new P2 to be delivered this afternoon. Now you’re making me wish I’d bought the bundle that included the F1 since I was already going into debt to buy the P2. LOL. Oh well. That just gives me the incentive to earn enough with the machines I have to buy the F1 eventually. #goals

@@Toonpish I do love it! The only thing I regret is installing the fire safety set. It makes the beautiful machine look cheap, and last time I used the P2, one of the wires from the fire safety set had fallen out of the cable clip. I'll be taking it off altogether before I use the machine again. Hopefully that will be this weekend if the job that actually pays my bills will give me a break. 😂🤣

I used the machines standard settings for black acrylic 😀😀😀💜 it was as standard as possible 👍💜
Great review Wendy. I loved that you tried it on silicone and resin, even tho the machine didn’t support those materials.. and you got it to work! Can you upload any image? Personal photographs or artwork? Your logo turned out great so, I know you can do that but, I was just curious how that worked. As long as you digitize the image, you can laser cut it?
you can put any image into the programme, but svg or png file formats work better. Obviously and photo wont be in that format so it would treat it as a photo and you have options to use the different settings for it . It would engrave or score a photo . and you can cut around the outside edge.I hope that helps .. my explanation is not very good but its the best I can do first thing in the morning 😂😂😂😂
