    I know this is old but this helped me tremendously. Resurrecting an 87 my dad gave up on and let sit for 30 years, whose demised started because the rear glass wouldn’t go up after having the motor replaced. Huge thanks.

      I cannot tell you how much these comments mean to me. I am so glad it helped! Now that the window works, what part of the truck are you working on next?

      @@philsgarage7092 splitting my time depending on weather. It’s frustrating, as no one part finished (I love how you say that’s how you’re doing it btw I’m so jealous lol), but as of now I’m stuck working outside and it’ll make things seem “fast” as they get completed. Completed rear suspension. Wire wheeling and painting under carriage and frame while gas tank is out, new tank and lines in hand. Rear brakes parts arriving this week so rear brakes will be next week. Front suspension parts in hand, PTSD from cutting rear off keeping me from starting the front 😂
      For a smaller victory, should have doors done inside and out this month too.
      Have made steady progress over the past 3 months, and without exaggeration, your video helped maintain the momentum to get me to the “point of no return,” where I’m far enough along that I can’t quit AND everything left is achievable.
      I know it’s not much but I hope you know doing that video-as frustrating as I’m sure it was 😂-made a huge difference for me.

      Im in the same boat! Just got an 87 with the rear glass stuck down, window sash was so rusted it crumbled apart. LMC came thru with all the needed parts, coupled with this video it made an easy fix back to perfect working condition.
      Awesome video man!

    I'm so glad I found this video! I've got a '73 and the window gets stuck and you can feel it slipping in there when trying to crank it up. I think it's just the regulator that needs replaced and I thought it'd be much more complicated than this.

      Jordan, thanks a lot for the comment. If I am being honest with myself, then yes, the channel is pretty close to dead. The combination of being joining a startup oil and gas company and having my first child in the last year has left me with little to no free time. That being said I am DYING to get back to working on the truck. I'm considering burning a week of vacation and working on the truck for 7 days straight so I can have plenty of footage to edit and release new videos. Comments like yours are what make me want to pick it up again. Thank you.

    • @ethanjohnson9477

      Cole Crocker are you referring to the blue cable thing he connected the drill too? if so just remove it from the gear housing and replace it with another cable. then the motor can move the window. if your referring to the actual power wires to the motor just remove your tail gate cover and undo the blue colored cable (may not be the same color) as he did and use the drill to raise and lower the window.

    • @philsgarage7092
      @philsgarage7092  8 лет назад

      NO NO! Do NOT break the window. I would not want to go through the hassle of trying to buy/find a replacement. With the back panel of the tailgate removed is it possible for you to get a wrench in there (probably too tight for a ratchet) and undo the bolts that connect the window to the window regulator?

    • @jaimecardona7458
      @jaimecardona7458 8 лет назад +1

      Hi Phil, thanks for replying so quick. Panel was removed, I can only barely see two of the four screws. The two towards the inner tailgate are visible, the two towards the taillights are not really visible. Seems like I'm going to need a very looooong 7/6 wrech and a very thinnnnnn one... Then have a child or someone with very small hands try it. It will also be working by feel mostly basically in the blind. I'll start searching for this special wrench. Is there any other way to get window up? I tried pulling on it, but move the whole truck moves. Thanks Phil.. Your right breaking the window is a last last resort.

    hi I am trying to do this conversion on my 91 k5 and I have ordered all parts needed but my key cylinder will not stay in the slot, it is all the way in and turns the c mechanism but then the cylinder just falls out, also my clutch will not spin freely when it is locked, any ideas of what I could be doing wrong , what hold the cylinder in place from falling out.

    • @philsgarage7092
      @philsgarage7092  7 лет назад

      Ronald, Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, the installation of the lock cylinder is by far the most difficult part of the whole process. It took me long time to get it to work. All I can tell you is to stay at it and don't get discouraged. Good luck!

    • @allthingsthetford
      @allthingsthetford 7 лет назад

      Phil'sGarage , yes it seems that way, it is as if it isn't grabbing anything to hold its self in I've checked the part numbers to double check everything, should the cylinder start in place without the pawl or does the pawl have to be in there basically holding it, just trying to trouble shoot, also it looks like there is possibly some uncut metal on the inside but I do not know if I should file it out, it is very thin material

    • @allthingsthetford
      @allthingsthetford 7 лет назад

      also is the key suppose to turn the entire cylinder or should the key turn within the cylinder

    • @philsgarage7092
      @philsgarage7092  7 лет назад

      I'm not sure what you meant by the 'pawl'. Help me out with that one.
      As far as the key turning in the cylinder, the key should rotate the cylinder that it is immediately inserted into, but it should not rotate any of the other cylinders in which it is place. I hope that helps.

      I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex here in Texas. If your question is do I work on people's cars, then the answer is not really. I do this work out of a love for it, but generally on my own project. As I'm sure you know, there is barely enough time for one project vehicle.

      @@jodilaurie4939 sorry I sold my Jimmy a few years back. I did have the link but not anymore. I ended up putting a normal tailgate (for weight) on it and a really nice soft top on my 86.

    Good job on the conversion, you and your Helper Ninja made a good video.
    As for the body shops and their reluctance to get involved in your project, with well over 40 years experience, I'll do my best to explain. First off, that is at minimum, a 30 year old ride, and will be covered in dents. Small ones that you may not see until it has shiny paint highlighting each and every one, but they are there. It is just normal wear and tear, and would take a guy an hour at least to point them all out. Next, the fit and finish is crap compared to today's rides, the good old days were not that good. Now, for the "I'll do all of the prep work and you can just paint it" crowd, who are you going to say painted it? And if your prep work is no bueno, and looks like crap, are you going to put a sign on it explaining? Big can o worms there. The bottom line on a really nice paint job, especially if you want it sanded and buffed so it looks like today's new vehicles, will be an easy 10-15k. If you are getting prices like Maaco, good luck.

      @@philsgarage7092 Thank you Phil. It has been 30 years since I messed with a squarebody gate, this was a good refresher, and you got to suffer the aggravation 😉
      I hope I didn't sound like I was ranting on the paint/body issue, there are many issues, rhymes and reasons involved, and for Heaven's sake we don't need any more patina rides out there.
